We are being linked to Pape Gueye, 6m rated DM from Le Havre. Ed is there any truth to this one?

Thanks a lot!

Putneygooner

{Ed002's Note - Pape Gueye (DM) A Le Havre player who is attacting the interest of Arsenal and Udinese - and Sevilla have watched the player. Would be economically a bargain if Xhaka were to get his move to HB.}

1.) 11 Feb 2020 18:41:49
Sounds good to me, 15 to 20 million in 6 million out the sort of deals we could do with right now.

2.) 12 Feb 2020 01:34:17
Does Xhaka still want the move?

{Ed002's Note - Obviously the fans have given him a torrid time and he wanted to join Hertha Berlin in January but that was not possible, there is every chance he still wants to move on - hence the club are pushing for a replacement.}

Hi Eds, I've read a lot about Arsenal re-kindling their interest in Pablo Fornals this January. Any truth to the rumours we could be replacing Elneny with him? Cheers.

Putneygooner

{Ed002's Note - Elneny is a far more defensive player than Fornals so I don't see him as being a replacement. However, Leicester have spoken with Arsenal about ME and I understand Arsenal are happy to let him move on. As for Pablo Fornals, in the summer of 2017 Arsenal set their heart on either Fornals or Jakub Jankto and with the preferred choices for the midfield position (like Rabiot and Zielinski) now probably out of reach perhaps they will consider him again as an option to the likes of Hector Herrera who is available and of interest. I cannot see Villareal being open to a sale in January.}

So David Ornstein AKA The Ornacle just all but confirmed Arteta's arrival:

Arsenal close to appointing boss, next week likely. Start of continental model: head coach slots into predefined structure, will contribute to recruitment decisions and have veto. Transfer targets were discussed with interviewees, pre-sales budget ~£50m #AFC

We are obviously taking a leaf from the big European clubs book, and we'll have to wait and see how well it will work in England. With regards transfers I really hope this new decentralised system doesn't cause friction like there is at Chelsea. Him having the option to veto players that SM and RS like surely means we'll often find it hard to agree on a player to bring in. That said, I'm interested to see who we go for (praying for some proper defenders) . They've appointed Arteta presumably to uphold the values of attractive attacking football, but I think every Arsenal fan on the planet knows the on field issues which need addressing first. Let's pray our new trio of decision makers bring in the right guys.

Out of interest, given the 50m budget, we're almost certainly going to be selling some players this summer. Who gets the chop? For me Ramsey Bellerin and Mustafi can go. Should raise about 70m.

Hi Eds,

Do you have any update on our interest in Jean Seri? And any idea on his chillblains in cold weather affecting a potential deal? Cheers.

Putneygooner

{Ed001's Note - no and no.}

Eds, do we have interest in Donnarumma or Oblak?

Putneygooner

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

1.) 13 Mar 2018 13:01:44
As much as I like the idea of Vieira or Henry in the Managers seat at Arsenal, I think the case for experience is overwhelming. Just my opinion mind, but, inter alia: Ancelotti, Allegri, Rodgers, tick more boxes if we are to rebuild properly around the core players we would all like to stay. Simeone doesn't do it for me, and I doubt he would come to the UK anyway - I don't want to go from one extreme to the other. The more pressing concern is that if Wenger is to go at the end of the season, and I do not know how he can possibly stay, the club need to make plans now, not in June/ July. The new man needs to hit the deck running with targets pinpointed and players no longer needed on the transfer list.

I hope my fear that the club will fanny around and appoint someone in September after Bould has lost the first three games, is misplaced.

Hi Eds and everyone else,

Firstly Eds, I have a question about Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu (think that's how it's spelt) . Are you aware of Arsenal interest in him? And has any contact been made?

Secondly, I'm just so down about last night's result. Was the boss's last chance to go out on a high, but he was undone by the same thing he has so often been undone by - not being able to defend as well as the other team. That late goal at the Emirates was the difference and every Arsenal fan knew it at the time. So disappointing.

But oh well.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is very excited to have a feeling of freshness and change over the summer. I won't even care if we don't finish top 4 again next year, just to have some change is so refreshing.

Excited to see who the new guy brings in, but I so hope he pays proper attention to some of the younger, less known players. Chambers has been genuinely outstanding in his last string of games - him alongside Mavropanos was the best CB pairing I've seen for us all season. Also, the likes of Niles, Nketiah and Nelson look to have serious promise.

We have to be smart with our money this summer, and potentially looking for internal solutions could help with that.

Putneygooner

{Ed001's Note - yes there is interest mate, also from Bayern and Dortmund.}

1.) 04 May 2018 11:32:47
I read we had "beaten" bayern to signing him any truth in that or just interest?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know about that, just that there is interest. You could well have gone and sealed a deal but I don't have any ins to get info from the new guys you have involved in the transfers now.}

2.) 04 May 2018 12:42:41
What are your thoughts on the player Ed001? He's tall and lean so strength shouldn't be too much a problem for him and depsite only having one season at Freiburg, he seemed to attract lots of clubs in January too. Roma, Lille and Manchester City all had eyes on him.

{Ed001's Note - have to be honest I haven't seen him play.}

16 Feb 2018 14:37:56
GKs: Timo Horn, Alisson

CBs: Rugani, Manolas, Diallo, (whisper it quietly but maybe even Alderweireld)

CDMs: Weigl, Fabinho

RWs: Malcom

These are a few potential summer targets being thrown around on that most reliable of platforms Twitter.

I've never seen many of these guys play, save for Toby and a bit of Fabinho so don't really feel qualified to comment, but what does everyone else think? Preferences from this list?

Personally I would like us to look at Idrissa Gueye from Everton to shore up the midfield. Probably a relatively cheap option and every time I see him play he looks a tenacious ball winner - something we definitely need.

Also Burnley's James Tarkowski has been brilliant for them this season - another PL proven player who could, in my eyes, really improve our shoddy defence.

(Finally, any info from the Eds on Arsenal's interest in any of these players would be greatly appreciated)

Peace.

Nabil Fakir.

2.) 17 Feb 2018 09:11:06
Tarowski, Alderweirald, Leno would be good start sorting out the back 5 but spurs would never sell to us and would rather he left for free.

29 Jan 2018 13:36:33
Hi Eds, do you see any chance of Arsenal moving for FC Mainz's Abdou Diallo before the end of the January window? If not, is a summer move likely? Thanks a lot.

Putneygooner

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer about timing and likliness.}

1.) 29 Jan 2018 13:56:39
Can I ask why not? I'm only asking your personal opinion based on what you know. Are we even interested in him? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Because if I say he will sign by midday the abuse will start one minute later. The word "likely" is subjective.}

Hi eds,
Given that more and more people are joining the Arsene Wenger Out brigade and his job is being talked about a lot more, are the club really preparing for life after Wenger? Do you have an idea who they're looking at to replace him?

Putneygooner

{Ed002's Note - Try Twitter.}

1.) I am as guilty as others complaining about Wenger, but we are currently the FA Cup & Community Shield holders, who are 1 point off qualifying for the last 16 of the CL & 1 point off a top four spot and only 4 points behind City. All this with 4 major players out with long term injuries and Walcott not yet match fit. If Wenger was to leave the four managers I would want are Mourinho, Ancelotti, Guardiola or Simone. The first three are all employed by huge clubs and are almost impossible to hire. Whilst I am not even sure if Simone speaks English, never mind whether would be able to manage successfully in the PL. So let's do our part and get behind Wenger & the team. You only have to look at Tottenham to see the effect unrest can have on the team, who are scared to play at home, as the crowd have turned on them.

I don't often post on here, but I feel I need some kind of therapy after tonight's embarrassment.

We got absolutely spanked tonight, make no mistake. 2-0 is flattering; they should have had at least 3, if not 4 or 5 to be honest and it's the result of dreadful tactics and preparation - not just poor transfers.

I see a lot of fans upset at the lack of players brought in in key positions, and this is a problem, granted. But there has to come a time when you look at your manager and consider if he's actually any good anymore.

In my opinion, we are not a much better side than we were 2 or 3 years ago, even though we have spent north of 100m on top quality players. We have stagnated when we're meant to be going forward because we're employing a manager whose tactics are horrendously outdated and who does minimal big game preparation.

We're playing this ludicrous 4-1-4-1 system, with Ozil out wide which is just wasting the talent we have available and constantly make the same schoolboy errors in the big away games. 5-1, 6-0, 3-0, 6-3 and now this 2-0 show that these problems are not just one offs. Wenger is just so stubborn - he needs to wake up and realise that his current system is simply not working, otherwise, get him out and Klopp in.

Get Arteta out of the squad, never mind team, put Ramsey and Wilshere in a double pivot in midfield and get Ozil in the middle with Chamberlain out wide. When we play the top teams away, set us out to just not concede in the first 20 minutes - keep the fullbacks from going forward and make sure at least one midfielder is back in front of the defence. But no doubt we'll see Mertesacker up top next match and probably Frimpong back on a free in January.

Arsenal have also struggled selling players due to the C.V. - as have many other clubs. It's only fair to acknowledge every side of the issue; it's not all the result of incompetence (though that certainly has played its part) .

We apparently signed him knowing he had a serious back problem - it came up in the medical. I mean, by the time Kallstrom returns, Ramsey, Wilshere and Flamini will have already come back. Absolutely farcical.

Draxler on German Sky Sport:
"I want to go and had a good offer to leave. But the Schalke [general] manager Horst Heldt said no to the transfer and would not let me go."

It wasn't Wenger who blocked the transfer. Stop talking rubbish and stirring negativity.

I think with regards the Giroud situation sometimes people miss the point a bit.

For me, the striker is THE most important position on the pitch - after all, you don't win any games without scoring. He should be skillful and capable of coming up with something out of nothing. Liverpool have Suarez, City have Aguero, Barca have Messi, the list goes on. (with the exception of Bayern)

The point is that, if anything, the striker should carry his team, not the other way around. I feel Giroud does get carried along by the other quality players around him. I can almost see him thinking 'I can't believe my luck here, I'm on 70k a week and playing with Ozil and Cazorla! This is great!'

Obviously we want to score and win games as a team, and not rely on just one brilliant striker to carry us, but Giroud is just not good enough to be starting for a top, top Premier League club.

Ok, mr Valley yid, I've been doing my best to ignore you and your comments but I just can't take it anymore.

Let's get one thing straight. Arsenal is a better club than Spurs. End of. Objective fact. We currently have a better team than you, we always have had a better team than you and we always will have a better team than you. We have won more trophies than you - 13 league titles to your 2, for example. We have a bigger stadium, a much bigger fanbase, and your best player and club captain came to us on a free (still laughing about that btw).

I say all this because it amazes me how a Tottenham fan can come on an Arsenal site and start chirping - you have nothing to chirp about! We're six points above you in the table with a game in hand, having beaten you already twice this season, and we will more than likely be winning the FA cup.

And don't act like you wouldn't swap Soldado, Capoue, Chadli and Lamela and all the other dross you signed for even Ozil's shoelace, because no-one's buying it.

So please, valley yid, do yourself a favour and keep off this page unless you have something of genuine substance to say.

I reckon we'll finish in 3rd - 1 point above Liverpool and about 5 off Chelsea and City, who will be very close to each other.
