I for one have been massively disappointed with Vermaelan this year but it started at the end of last season, both goals at Fulham away were his fault. I don't understand why the captaincy should make you a worse player, if anything it should lift your game. I can see Utd coming sniffing at the end of the season so he can go and join his mate, I do not mention the name any more but we all know who he is and then he will turn into a great centre half once more. I believe Kos can be a world class centre half and he plays with a lot of passion for this great club, build the defence around him!

Believable9 Unbelievable4

Kos makes too many mistakes - he's not and will never be 'world class'. {Ed027's Note - evryone makes mistakes

Agree3 Disagree19

What's the point in such a glib response? His mistakes have been very costly. {Ed027's Note - there is not one man in that team, who has'nt made a mistake, the fact Koscielny turned down the likes of Barca and Milan for us shows his loyalty, he was our best defender last season, after a good run of games, he's hardly got any together this season. Also what is with standing by your own players? lets take Ramsey for e.g, he's been putting in a shift all season, yet most of you want him to be like wilshere, forever booing him at home games, get behind the team and the boss

Agree14 Disagree4

Thank you ED, well said mate. Kos is a boss, Ramsey is a versatile work horse.

Perhaps Wenger isn't too Blame, maybe if we did a better job of getting behind our club we would see better performances.

Food for thought.

Agree20 Disagree3

When you pay the world class ticket prices Arsenal charge - you are entitled to question consistently sub-standard performances. Your arguement seems to be get behind those players - they're doing their best. Well sorry - we are not a charity for well intentioned players. You also imply that expressing frustration with the quality and direction of the team is in some way disloyal - utter rubbish. Like most fans I crave the very best for our beloved Arsenal and we will not concede the moral high ground to appeasers and apologists.

Agree5 Disagree3

Kos is a loss and Ramsey is a Reading player.

Agree2 Disagree8

I am merely suggesting by booing players you plant the seed of doubt in their minds. Yes they are professionals, but most of them, like Ramsey, are still very young and under more pressure than you or I ever are/will be. They are still human.

Self-doubt can destroy a player.

I am not suggesting its disloyal, just not a best practice.

i always think when people disagree with fans booing players who aren't performing to the standard they can perform to because everyone makes mistakes etc. that if I were earning the money they earn i'd be in a very important job, and one mistake would probably lose said job.

footballers make mistakes and get away with it, not completely fair but it happens. too many and they aren't mistakes. they are the norm.

also with their wages they are expected not to make mistakes.

playing with drive and enthusiasm means fk all aswell if you don't have the skill.

how much enthusiasm do you think most of us fans would play with if we were in the starting line up for arsenal.

how many of us fans would be rubbish?

most tbh, messi playing for real madrid would be 1000x better than alan davies playing for us.

Something that crossed my mind today. Last season Vermaelen and Koscielny were great together. This season Mertesacker and Kos are looking great together. So why does every slate Kos?? It seems to me that, bar the first half of his first season, he is actually our most reliable defender.

Side note, what's peoples take on Ashely Williams? I'd take him in the summer. Reckon he'd be a great fit with TV.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

First you say kos is our most reliable defender, and then u say we should get williams to pair up with vermaelen.

Kos is our best defender. Pace, power, aggression, composure. He shouldn't be dropped.

Agree20 Disagree0

Sorry, I maybe could have worded that better. My intention was to say that Kos should always start and judging by the this season, probably with Per. I do, however, feel that Williams would make a great pairing with TV allowing for a very solid second-choice defense.

Agree1 Disagree0

Thats exactly what you said the first time. worded differently. brilliant

Agree0 Disagree1

Yeah sure, TV5 and Williams will be happy to sit on the bench and dish the water out to Kos and Merts won't they?

Maybe we could sign Michu as back up to Giroud and he can clean his boots.

Seriously, why would top players, playing week in week out in their teams want to come and sit on the bench?

Agree0 Disagree1

Ask nasri that question!

Agree2 Disagree0

^^ Exactly, Nasri has admitted he should have stayed for his career he even said recently that he has considered coming back to Arsenal!

Great result today, todays game and for the rest of the season will be a test of nerves of everyone associated with the Gunners!

A couple of observations. The pace of our game has definently deteriorated over the last couple of years, as has the movement of the forward players. It seems that if they make a run and the ball doesn't reach them they become static, instead of moving again. Additionally, they need to think more. Instances being Artetas challenge late on today as well as his two clumsy tackles v Bayern in extra time (which precluded us from launching more attacks).

Glad Ramsey and Gervinho contributed today, will do them the world of good. If Gervinho could improve his shooting then he would be awesome.

Defensively, massive improvement. Not really sure what this is down to as there are several potential reasons, players having more faith in Fabianski (certainly seems to have improved), no Vermaelen (perhaps this has improved communication or solidity due to no wandering), Koscielny being back (im a huge fan, yes he has had mad moments but think these will reduce) or is Stevie Bould drilling the defensive unit again?

I think soon enough the potential changes for next year will become more of a hot topic. Wanyama, Capoue or Song? A new right back to challenge Jenkinson (who I rate highly and should keep the berth for the rest of the season)? Jovetic? Although I know there is some bad feelings associated with him but personally I would like Nasri back (even at the expense of both Rosicky and Arshavin).

Believable4 Unbelievable1

I would never want that smarmy, fat tw*t back at our club. Let him rot in the reserves at Man Shi**y

Delighted that Arsenal won today, especially because Everton got a massive win aswell.

Fingers crossed fulham can put in a winning performance tomorrow to help us out a bit.

Got the job done today. Great to see Gervinho score and Monreal.

The one thing that I'm wondering is;
Who was our defensive weak link? Vermaelen or Szczesny? Or maybe it's just Koscielny that makes us solid at the back. I'd like to see TV5 to get his confidence back and join Kos at the back.

Either way happy with the result, hopefully we can continue this 'form' to the end of the season.

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Verm never wanted to be captain

Agree0 Disagree2

Sorry but, when did I say he wanted to be captain?

All I said was that is lacking confidence and I'd like to see him regain that and get back to his best.

Vital 2-0 win, good 2nd half controlled it and nullified Swansea.

Ramsey played well when he came on the ineffective Diaby. Few teams win at Swansea as they can keep the ball so well so that could prove a pivitol 3 points at end of season. Spurs and Chelsea both still have to play Swansea.

Defence solid Kos and Mert look a far better partnership.

Keeps us in touch, well done.

I agreed with your post but mainly pressed agreed because you managed to spell 'defence' right! Most posters seem to struggle with it lol

Greetings and Salutations my fellow Gooners,

Back to back clean sheets, well done to the lads, it looks like we finally we know who our weak link in our back 4 was. Fabianski while not being challenged today is definitely more vocal with the back 4 and that is very much needed!

Well played lads!

Onwards and upwards,

Gunners4Life, In AW we trust!

And MetalCharlie, do us a favour mates and get back involved sons. This is not a popularity contest, some will like, some will dislike, regardless we all love the club. simple as!

All this talk about wenger leaving at end of summer is more false than this big billion pound take over I'm a true arsenal fan and makes me laugh when read all these rumours we have always had money to spend on players but wenger doesn't like to spend on players I ain't so sure but isn't Reyes our world breaking record for the club and tbh don't think we will break it sinless wenger is removed from the club he is a world class manager but is time with arsenal is over I'm shocked that fans are not chanting him out of the club because I sure am I would like a manager to take over who is wanting and willing to spend money on players not flops like over the past 5 years gervinho mertesacker girou
etc all cost nearly over 10 million and wouldn't spend Tenner on them money has took over football

Believable1 Unbelievable15

Rubbish! thank god there aren't a bunch of people wanting to chant him out! Also full stops help.

0-0 half time not a lot of clear chances. The ox was unlucky not to score. We got better as half went on. He need to up the tempo and up the physicality a bit in midfield. Diaby is annoying me a little looks lathagic. Swansea keep the ball well as we all know but I don't think we have been troubled that much apart from that mistake by Jenkinson for that Michu chance.

Need to get stuck in a bit more and more pressure from midfield. It a must win game draw in not enough now.

Grrr so frustrating that all Diaby can do is ball watch. Get off the pitch and watch the game from the bench.

Any of the ed can reply it. two questions

2)Ed do you see any takeover for arsenal in the coming months?thanx {Ed027's Note - yes, and possibly

Am I the only one here who really doesn't rate Julio Cesar? Yes he's a brilliant shot-stopper, but in the air and off corners, he's really average, and that would become obvious extremely quickly if he came here. Yes, Szczesny has been poor this season, but he's young and will become a very decent keeper soon enough.

Macc Gooner {Ed027's Note - We need a decent GK now

Believable3 Unbelievable0

16 Mar 2013 12:54:40
Okay,

Fabianski has one good game, and all of a sudden Szczesny is horrible and Fabianski is the best keeper we have, our first choice.

Fabianski is on the bench for a reason; Szczesny is better.

Szczesny is only 20-21 and he is Arsenals first-choice keeper.

Wait til he is 30 and youl be nervous every transfer window that he doesn't move to Madrid.

Plus he has a pretty average defence that exposes him so much every game.

But my point is,

One week
"We need to sell Flappyhandski, he is not good enough"

Next week
"Szczesny is not up to it, Fabianski is our best keeper"

A bit of consistency would be appreciated, come on guys.

Nick. {Ed027's Note - Szczensy has been poor for a while

Believable10 Unbelievable5

So what's your point. Do you want arsenal to give him 10 years to prove himself.

His place is on the bench, if is not fine with that then sell him.

Agree5 Disagree2

The only reason that Shezza is number 1 is because fabianski got injured. If you remember he was in good form since then he hasn't really had a chance or has been injured!

SM1996

Agree12 Disagree2

My take on the whole GK situation is we haven't had a World Class goalkeeper since Lehman in 2006. He really went downhill after that. Almunia and Fabianksi have been very average. From what I've seen Szeszency in terms of ability is our best, but Fabianski organises the defence better. Ideally as a top 4 club we need someone who can do both.

Id be very happy with Mannone and Fabianski as 2nd + 3rd choice keepers. Could sell Szezsceny for £12m - £15m. Valdes, Cesar, Adler, Mingolet, Begovic. plenty of names floating aroung atm. I can't see Wenger dropping Szezsncy as first choice unless he starts making some pretty horrendous errors.

We desperatly need another CB and CDM to sort our defence. Maybe a RB too. If TV5 leaves well good luck to him, Kos needs a leader along side him. Mert should only be a backup option. Ameorbieta, Sahko. who knows but a CB will definatly be brought in summer.

Detroit Gooner

Agree7 Disagree1

Dont think this is the case as such but with scez recent performance then we may aswel let fabs have a run and rest scez form his 'mental stress'

Agree2 Disagree1

Did you ever see Lehman play? To say that he was world class is way off the mark. He game me the jitters every game. A butter and a liability. Schezsney will be top class but needs not to play in a defence that leaks goals. Koscielny must play as he has pace. Mertsacker is not half as bad as people make out, he isn't quick but has very good positional play

Agree1 Disagree2

Lehman 1st choice Germany keeper. Kept 6 consecutive clean sheets in CL knockout one year. He was a fantastic keeper. I would take him over any PL keeper today except Hart and maybe Cech.

I think Gervinho needs a start. He has the ingredients, just needs the confidence.

His turn inside the box against Bayern was so tasty. the finish not so much.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

I agree on that turn, I almost spit out my drink, thinking is that really Gervinho. but then the finish summed up his arsenal career so far. I thought maybe he should have played it across to Giroud or kept the ball and taken the contact on the slide tackle, but it was gone in an instant.

I hope as an Arsenal fan he pulls it together, but his passing and shooting have truly let Arsenal down. I cannot question his work rate or his trickery, but I wonder if he has the other assets to succeed.

Maybe a start though, although that would be a controversial decision among the fans.

Szczesny needs to be dropped again today and then maybe he will start to realize the hard work is once you made it to stay there not by getting there in the 1st place, not biggest fan of FAbs but he organized the defence can kick a bit better than szczesny (not difficult)

Hope szczesny has not been hanging around with the king of mr egotism who we shipped off to juve, otherwise his talent will be wasted in similar fashion.

Hey Metal, well done on your new job, 5 hours is a gruelling interview process and glad you came through it unscathed. Would make the observation though that now you have moved to London (especially Holloway!) getting away from Arsenal will be nay on impossible.

I for one think that your frustrations over this Arsenal side will be short-lived as Wenger has finally decided to take action against the underperformancing team members. I would expect a mini clear out (if not then major) and many new faces coming in over the Summer.

Don't let all this get you down and if you out around Highbury (right down the road from Holloway) on match days (to be fair largely Saturdays) let me know as I will normally be in a pub watching the match.

I assure you that I will continue to disagree with many of your opinions but will always agree with the sentiments you express.
