Obviously after the 'Chosen One' was sacked by Manchester United yesterday following his record breakingly (bad) stint as manager, it got me thinking about 'Arsene who?' As he was known as when he first arrived in England.

Now there's been speculation about him leaving this summer and we would be in a similar situation to Manchester United in terms of someone FOLLOWING a club icon. Both SAF and Wenger have transformed both clubs in so many ways from top to bottom.

Wengers 18yrs in charge have almost been split into two 9yr periods. The first nine in the late 90s and early noughties up til 2004/05 were trophy laden and full of success. The second 9yrs we have endured a trophy drought under the financial constructs of the state of the art stadium that has been built. Wenger has been given so much time due to loyalty and previous success and basically IMO because of everything he has done for the club.

My question for you horrible lot is; IF Wenger was to leave what direction does the club go in?

Do we go down the former player/young manager (De Boer/Bergkamp combo) Simone etc. and give them as much time as possible.

Or do we go for an experienced Louis Van Gaal type and give them a three year contract demanding a trophy within two years?

Moyes was offered a SIX year deal with promises of the club standing by him no matter what and he lasted as long as an average pregnancy!

It is a tricky bridge to cross and I'll be interested to see what people think we should do.

Just on a side note re "The Chosen one" have you seen the banner on sale on eBay. Currently at £154,000.

From the write up it's going to be a hoax but some guys having fun with it.

Arsene does get a mention in it too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iv always said that when Wenger goes when ever that maybe that someone with "Arsenal blood" should be brought in. Now currently there isn't many former players who I would choose as a manager/head coach but a few would be very much suited as an number 2. Bergkamp ( like you suggested with de boer ) Patrick Vieira would be great back at arsenal. Also Jens Lehman I believe would be a strong number 2. All know "the Arsenal way" and were part of our most successful period.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post and good question, luckily it doesn't concern us for one more season, at least

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll be brutally honest, fergie was a fantastic manager, he won with great teams and pretty average teams. But he left moyes with a bag of jobbies. The defence needed a complete overhaul, injury prone or past it and the lads he got in jones smalling butner and Rafael not good enough. The midfield was creaking and lost its bite. Good up top but nothing behind. At least we have some promising young talent to work with and the older ones can be pensioned off this summer. All we need is a manager with what's needed to organise and set up a team with balance and tactical awareness. Me I prefer either a proven winner at the highest level on a regular basis. Or a bright young thing like simionne, klopp or martinez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Truth be told, the Utd debacle over the last two days has made me a lot fonder of Arsene again.

We forget what we have sometimes with our players and managers

The United players, including RVP have come off very, very badly. Mutinous. I wonder RVP's role.

Agree0 Disagree0

Excellent question.
The first period of Wenger was whilst Dein & Fiszman were at the helm. The second period was dominated by Wenger himself.
If Wenger were to depart there is little direction from above, so an experienced manager would be vital. My own choices, if available would be Ancelotti or Mourinho.
For a younger option, De Boer & Bergkamp would be an idea.

Agree0 Disagree0

You did not just say Mourinho? The guy is an actor who likes to take centre stage. He will destroy the name of Arsenal (trophies or not) within one season with his stupid acts. I used to think Mourinho was the bees knees and couldn't say a bad word about him even though he managed Chelsea but this season he is a total an utter tool and I wouldn't want him even if he gave us all four titles in one season. Some may disagree

IMPORTANT POST IN A DEEP POSH VOICE.
It has come to my notice and the notice of a few other posters on here that a sense of humour is totally unacceptable. This site is about football and Arsenal in particular. Anybody on here that deviates from this and insists on having some light hearted banter will be made to wear a Spurs shirt for the remainder of the season and watch re-runs of Spurs doing the double on a black and white TV set so as to get the proper effect of the games of that time. Bringing a smile to people's faces is not the purpose of this site. If you want to have a laugh this is not the place for you. Dagenham Gunner maybe the main culprit in this outrageous carry on and has attracted other stupid people to follow in his footsteps. It has to stop now! Isn't that right Eds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - "bang on old boy"

How about instead of that, every joke told means £1 put in a jar. When we reach enough we can get Goldboy and Dagenham Gunner a room.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like that idea paul...although all golds jokes put together are not worth 50p...nice to see you have not had a humour bypass mate.. :)

What jokes!

{Ed025's Note - i agree steve.. :)

Goldboy that was hilarious mate and the best part was the "Spurs shirt " . I know this is your response to someone who posted few days back saying that this page has been made into a page for sharing Joke etc

How likely is it that Arsenal want Benzema? And would madrid let him go if we went in for him?

And on a separate note, what do people think about Bony from Swansea? My view is that he would be a perfect fit for the striker we need. Would be interested in other peoples views

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would be amazed if we got Benzema. IMO he is world class and would be unbelievably good for us.

Not going to happen though.

As for Bony, again, I'm not really sold on the guy. He's a good player but I just think we need to look and get better players in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would he want to come to Arsenal? IMO he has a better chance of winning things were he is, for now anyway

Diaby is back - for the two or three games he played for us a year ago, he looked amazing, and got rave reviews - can anyone remember that? Will he be anywhere near as good? Can he stay injury free?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Diaby is the player we want/miss the most, closest thing to Vieira, but it would be mad/foolish to include him in our plans.

Hate to say this, because I love the guy to bits, but we should get rid of him and invest in a similar type player.

Sorry Abou mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's hard to remember the last time he played for us; it's been that long!

He had all the potential to be a beast but just hasn't for filled that due to his shocking injury record.

I feel he will be given one more season and then released in 2015 if he doesn't hit the standards.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2014 22:13:39
Yep, he started last season really well, we were playing Chelsea and looking good for a win, Diaby took a shot from just outside the box and that caused his injury. He pulled up and now he has returned.

His contract runs until June 2015 so I'm going to guess Arsene will give him until then to earn a new one.

Can't imagine any one will buy him as another injury is likely to be his last, he's 28 next month.

Be great to see him get over it but we keep saying that. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes been out that long he's got to start at the bottom for re training in the under 10s. The problem was he tripped over little johnny tying his boots up and strained his ankle. Looks like he's out till next April.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liability and a waste of a squad position and a wage, the word potential will always be aimed at Diaby, never fulfilled though.

Agree0 Disagree0

To all the above, remember a lot of us thought the same about rosicky 3 years ago. Diaby is a lot younger. Time will tell

ED025. Any chance on a new section on this site. Where people that are void of a sense if humour can post. Can you believe some of the replies? I'm dumbfounded. In still not sure if they are for real. You're right what's wrong with a little bit of lightheartedness? I have to laugh though. In the mean time I'm going to ask Dags if he has got any new jokes to share. That should upset the miserable buggers. LOL

This site used to be a forum for sharing rumours, suggestions and thoughts.

It's become a forum for posting jokes and brown nosing Liverpool fans.

Can we get it back on track please.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - chill out paul!..there is nothing wrong with the odd joke mate, it brings a bit of lightheartedness to the site, when there are a lot of doom posts, but i do clamp down on brown nosing liverpool fans!...but if they want to brown nose everton fans i will turn a blind eye.. :)

What's the difference between David Moyes and the captain of the Titanic?.
The captain of the Titanic knew when it was the right time to jump ship.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The captain of the Titanic sank with his ship. Your joke makes no sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let me answer this Ed025.
RED ROSIE. Good point mate. But do we really know that? I think he did a runner and jumped into a lifeboat dressed as a woman. Ah! See you never thought of that did you?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah I saw the movie that is based on 100% fact and he definitely went down with the ship. maybe.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Don't you guys know anything? It wasn't Titanic that sank.

Or if you don't believe that, Google 'William Barnes Thomas Andrews Titanic'

Jeezus. Is REDROSIEs reply for real? Or is it Dags having a laugh under a pseudonym Even I'm not too sure now. REDROSIE. Are you being serious mate. Eds I think I'll let this one pass. Otherwise it may run and run. Do you know what I mean? LOL.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its a disaster!..

Am I being serious? Of course I am. It's so sad that Leonardo Di Caprio died that day. RIP

{Ed025's Note - i dont know why...but i have this vision of rosie and goldie, at the front of a boat with their arms out-stretched sailing down the thames.. :)

When asked by reporters if he had ever been offered a betting bribe.
David Moyes replied "I was offered £1M to make sure Manchester United don't qualify for Europe next season but I told them I'd do it for free".

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm all for making a mockery of the man when he was in charge of Man utd, but I don't believe in kicking a man when he's already down and out.

He might have failed, but I believe the club have failed him, more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to laugh at the mess that is Man Utd! But at the same time what they have done to Moyse is detrimental to football in general. Still scratching my head as to why they gave him a 6 year contract hahhaaaa

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2014 10:56:36
You think so Lakerville? I never expected him to win trophies in the first season, but then again, I never expected the team to fall from grace so emphatically and so quickly

Agree0 Disagree0

The team was not good enough, how they won last year is beyond me, clearly Van persie fired those goals to win the title, but if you look at the rest of the squad they were pretty much the same stat for stat.

Moyes should have sold rooney and made a bold move, but giving him that crazy contract only showed that Rooney was bigger than the club, considering how he treated them before.

Also Van persie and Mata would be a great link up, but having rooney means Mata's space becomes rooney's space, and while he does it brilliantly as well, I just do not see why he spent 37 million on that player for a position he did not need to cover.

He could have tried for reus or kroos players they need to replace cleverly and young, but he bought Mata.

at the end of the day whoever the new manager is, has to deal with some player power. Rooney clearly has too big a say, for someone who is not too bright. He will be the captain next season.

I think people get enamored with players who run their hearts out, they do not see the bigger picture, which is that player has sacrificed his position and the shape of the team, it looks good when it comes off but when it doesn't which has been lately it looks like a headless chicken on the run around.

Dont get me wrong rooney is a brilliant player but he is not world class. that is something the English Media label their youngsters.

Wilshere is not World class, the Ox is not, Ramsey is not (although he is having a sensational season) Consistency over a period confims such a status.

and while rooney was world class in 2009 he just has not improved, infact he has been the same or regressed, he should be hitting peak form not taking a holiday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lakerville. Lighten up a bit it's called Banter mate. Have fun.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - never give up the chance to kick a guy when he,s down, you may not get another chance.. :)

David Moyes has been offered another job already!
The Great Britain Tobogganing Team have said they have been looking for years for someone who can push a team downhill at that sort of speed.

ha. Where do you come up with this stuff?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2014 07:40:38
David Moyes shouldn't worry about getting another job.

After receiving £4 million for being a complete failure, he'll be running a bank in no time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was not poor to start with, I think his reputation has taken such a hit that he will be having nightmares about this for the rest of his life. sad thing is no one is ever going to give him a chance at a top club, his best bet is to get a job at a club like newcastle and make them contenders and gain some sort of recognition.

if he joins any other club I just don't see him having an impact, and there is no way he is getting picked by any club in the top 6 in the near future.

Agree0 Disagree0

There's always the story of Brian Clough at Leeds. As bad as Moyes had it and sacked ignominiously. He managed to get past it -:)

I'd be looking at Woodward and the organization. It was a shambles of an off season and no better during the campaign. Let's see if they can make a real Sp*rs-up of this for years to come -:)

So it looks like David Moyes is going to be leaving Old Trafford with a £4,000,000 pay off.

And then there's the bonuses from Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

But he also said. " Give it a season under Moyes and the tea lady will be bigger than the club."

Joke time. let's see if the Eds post this. A skint man walks into his local pub after months of not showing his face there. He turns up with the most beautiful looking woman you have ever seen on on his arm. Walks over to the bar pulls out wads of £50 notes from one pocket and a real life little man about a foot high wearing a Spurs shirt and places him on the bar too. The man orders Champagne for everyone while the tiny little man runs up and down the bar in his Spurs shirt and gets the glasses. The barman says "My god Charlie what happened to you.? The man replies " I stopped a woman from jumping off the bridge the other day and it turns out she was a magic fairy. She granted me 3 wishes for my kindness. So I thought I'd take a chance.
My first wish was that every time I put my hands in my pocket I pulled out wads of cash. Bang! it happened. My second wish was that I had the best looking desirable bird in the world who loved me to pieces and couldn't keep her hands off me . Then bang! It happened! Then I thought well with all this luck I'd better ask for a 12 inch penis and bang!
I ended up with him in the Spurs shirt. "

Great to see Abu Diaby back. It looks like all players will be fit for the final, except Walcott. It will be interesting to see the line up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You are getting way ahead of yourself, there is 3 games before then and that could mean 5 or 6 injuries. This is arsenal and we don't do injury free. Diaby might injure himself getting out of his car.

It would be a joke if Diaby is in the cup final squad
