My thoughts and prayers tonight are with those whose loved ones were killed or injured at the Shoreham Airshow crash yesterday afternoon in West Sussex. Two players from Worthing United Football Club are also reported have lost their lives in the accident.

Such a terrible tragedy.

Don't ever tell an Arsenal fan to support anyone else. Have some respect.

An Arsenal fan for 40 years. Just because I am bored of the same old from Wenger doesn't give you the right to abuse. It is just my opinion but a lot of fans want to see progress.

I support Arsenal. I don't blindly support Wenger.

I'm a wenger boy but I can see people's frustration. It's one that I don't call people out on. I appreciate where he has got us and that's to walk side by side with the biggest teams in Europe and we are completely self sufficient. On the other hand I can understand people who would like someone who would spend wengers piggy bank.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 14:22:45
Pedro starts with a bang.
Do you think he is the one special player who can improve their team? Did they have to spend money?
Well they have spent and improved.
Most teams have already bedded in signings.

The Premier league is no longer the place for Wenger.

We are going to be left behind. No excuse.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

23 Aug 2015 14:56:02
Chelsea sign pedro. So you come to the conclusion of Wenger out. It pains me how many fans their are with your opinion, each to their own but we are very lucky to have arsene

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree D16..

23 Aug 2015 15:08:16
It pains me to see fans like you.
As I said in the post most teams have signed and improved. Not just a Pedro reaction but they have managed to find a player to improve their team and they are champions. Apparently there is nobody free that will improve us.
I've said Wenger out for 10 years. Even if we sign Benzema three weeks into the season that won't change.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 15:11:09
Strong words TG. Strong, bewildering words.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 15:12:53
Let's look again new years day and then we can reasonably start to judge whether he was right, if we are miles off the pace then questions will quite rightly be asked of Arsene but should we be right in thick of things (and I think we will be) then we'll need to look again in May.
Let's get behind the team and Arsene 100% until we have reasonable reason not to.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 15:17:56
can't believe i get censored for my Rodney marsh comments, and then there's this guy?! only joking buddy, you are fully entitled to keep your opinion in your head :)

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 15:28:49
It pains me to see the ignorance of some Arsenal fans and you've been calling for it for 10yrs.

Jesus it's pitiful but it's your opinion fella.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 15:39:25
So, after the 04/05 season you where saying "Wenger out"?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that was 11 years ago CL..

23 Aug 2015 15:43:43
You guys are as deluded as Wenger.
Good luck to you all

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 15:47:03
Who would you get in as manager then
TG? Which manager is available that would be a better choice than arsene. Please don't say klopp. there are so many clubs who would love to have our manager for a good reason

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 15:49:57
Look, i get what you're saying...kinda, but Arsene deserves massive respect for what he's done for this club and what he's still doing for it.

3 years ago we couldn't afford to spend without selling.
We had a stadium to pay off.
We'd had no silverware for 8 years.
We were scraping around for players like Squillacci.
We even had to drag in old players like Sol Campbell and Jens Lehman..

Move to now and we've won 4 trophies in 2 years.
We've signed 2 absolute world class players.
We've broken our transfer record by almost double the former record.
We've got squad depth for once.
We can afford to sign any (available) player we want.

There's still 10 days of the window left, don't get your undies in a twist.

Sir Alex left Utd with an ageing squad, falling apart and going nowhere.
They still aren't the same.
They've strengthened, but they still have glaring weaknesses.
They need a striker, they need at least one centre back, they need to sort the De Gea saga too.

Arsene will leave this club with a team.

In my eyes, you add a top CB to this team and a top striker and our first 11 is as good as any other Prem team.
But don't forget, we aren't Chelsea or City, we may have cash now, but we can't go out and spend £20-30m on a player who's going to be a rotation option.

If we spend a BIG fee on a player, he has to be of starting quality.
That's the point, we can't go out and buy a striker for £20m then sit him on the bench as back up to Giroud.
We still have Welbeck and Theo for that.
Whilst i still think a deal will happen soon, expect any prospective deal for Benzema to go down to the last minute of deadline day.

Remember how mad Madrid fans and players were when we signed Özil?
Madrid fans have a lot of power, the club can't risk angering them too much, so if they're going to sell a player like Benzema, who the fans like, they'll need someone in to take the force of the blow.

We'll do buisness before long, just enjoy the ride.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - cracking post that D..

23 Aug 2015 15:55:41
Theres no doubt he's a safe bet. Some are happy to continue. But with that squad no way do we challenge.

Agree0 Disagree3

23 Aug 2015 16:25:21
How is there no doubt we will challenge. Remember 2 seasons ago when was top most of the season. We challenged that season and I think we are a lot better this season so I can't see how people think we can't challenge.

Top post D that really was!

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 16:32:42
TG,

Delusion has nothing to do with, you are like Derby in a dream world of what players should be brought in and you probably also believe that Usmanov would have come in and blown a load of money. That's delusion.

Great post D, said it many times myself.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 16:41:40
Who do I want as manager? Anyone who doesn't play the same tactics, formation and plan every game. Someone who is not too stubbern to see what needs to change.
Want Usamanov to come in? Sounds like you have your own agenda with another poster. I didn't say anything about that. I just don't want to stand still.
With the current squad we will not challenge for the league or champions league. It is not strong enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 16:44:32
Ed

May 2005 was actually 10 years ago lol not 11

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - may was..but the 2004/2005 season was 11 years ago mate..

23 Aug 2015 16:52:29
Fans such as u need to think very carefully what you wish for. Like sir Alex he is going to be very hard if not impossible to replace.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed025's Note - ill go for impossible..

23 Aug 2015 17:01:13
Now it's not delusion it's an agenda, that is just another typical opinion of those that want Wenger out, looking for anything to beat him with, jeez, you and others just want to use the same blanket excuses with a refusal to see what goes on in your own club.

Wengers made mistakes, sure he has, the same as he knows how to build a title winning team and is in the process of doing the same.

The fact you wanted him out within a year or so of the Invincibles says it all fella.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 17:08:32
It does Stoner.
We went years winning nothing looking a shadow of the team we should have been.
That does say it all Fella

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 17:18:39
TG,

I don't think you'd find a single gooner who would say they were happy with a 9 year trophy drought but there are genuine reasons for it despite the fact we came close a few times in breaking it during that period.

I simply except it because I believe I have a genuine understanding of why. I don't see Wenger as a clueless halfwit although like I've said before he has driven me nuts.

I also think many under estimate the quality of our squad as it stands and I also believe Wenger is or will be doing everything he can to add to that.

It's just my opinion fella and no doubt we exasperate each other in equal measure, but that's part of banter and having differing opinions on our club and manager. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 17:18:42
So that was nothing to do with having no money to spend for 10 years then while we paid the stadium off TG?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 17:40:20
Appreciate the opposing opinions of those of you that are courteous.
I do love the we had no money because of the stadium argument. Wenger was the top paid manager in the world for some of that time...millions

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 17:56:43
D16. If that year was a title challenge then Jesus. We finished 4th and dropped off like a stone.

With this squad we will not challenge.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - watch you dont injure yourself derby..jumping on that bandwagon mate.. :)

23 Aug 2015 17:58:38
So it's Wenger's fault for being paid too much? Are you suggesting he should have signed some players with money out of his own bank account?
He didn't end up on that money by fluke. He was paid well because he was one of the most successful managers in the history of English football. The top managers and players earn top money. It isn't rocket science.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 18:05:58
It's not an argument though TG, it's pretty much what it was and what Wenger is paid is totally irrelevant.

Whilst the club was going through that process maybe, just maybe the board/owner wanted to pay Wenger a wage that was not only consummate to his ability but also that they wanted him to remain faithful to the club.

It does make me smile that fans don't care what we pay for a player in fee and wages but get concerned about what a manager gets paid. Not that you have voiced that particular opinion.

I have been a gooner since 69 and seen the good the bad the ugly and the sublime and don't blindly follow anyone but look at the whole picture and come to a considered opinion fella.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 18:08:00
Haha eds Iv said we won't challenge. And Wenger does a steady job but sir alex was at the top of the tree. Winning titles. Only way was down. Not for arsenal tho

City for me will win the league

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think you may be right with city mate..

23 Aug 2015 18:22:06
Hey ed025.

I'm pretty sure the 04/05 season ended 10 years ago :)

I did say "after"...

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - 04/05...to..15/16...11 all day for me CL, i do have a gcse grade 1 in maths you know mate!.. :)

23 Aug 2015 19:05:12
Not doubting your math mate, just the "from-to" part of it.

After 04/05 season - before (start of) 15.

10 years and 3 months :)

(Okay, I'm leaving it here...)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - 10 yrs + 3 months means its in the 11th year CL..and i will leave it there mate.. :)

23 Aug 2015 19:34:56
We are always going to have this pro and anti wenger. For me the guy is a god. And he is the single most important person that has ever been involved with arsenal

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 19:57:24
Brow nailed it - we may not have won trophies for a spell but even during the tough times Wenger still pushed us into the CL and played the most stylish football in the EPL.

WE will challenge this year on all 4 fronts - always takes a bit of good fortune so we will see what happens.

Note our tough times means no worse than 4th - we are a big' club no matter how you look at it.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 20:34:07
He is cangun. He's Been a visionary . I can whole heartedly understand why people want a change its a legitimate opinion. But for me no way he stays until he has finished and he will finish what he's started.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 21:28:16
For me he is a god and a dinosaur. Everything he brought to this club was revolutionary, but now its been overtaken and out thought. The guy is holding this club back, but i don't knock people who think otherwise.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 00:25:54
To talk about the amount Wenger was paid through the years we weren't winning anything is ridiculous for 2 reasons
1- His mandate was to keep us in touch with the top teams while trying to earn money through Champions League qualification and selling at least one player for a big enough profit each season to pay down the debt on a pretty fantastic stadium.
I would say he did that pretty well wouldn't you?
And tell me one other manager you're absolutely certain could have done that or better?
2 - Real Madrid came calling at least two or three times during that period, do you really believe they expected him to take a pay cut?

Am i frustrated at just how close we are?
Yes i am a bit, but I'm truly grateful for what Wenger has done for us, and i can see a change in him this last few years and so I'm willing to give him the time he deserves to get us back to the top.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

23 Aug 2015 20:36:44
It's hard to understand why people doubted pedro. Barca is a very difficult side to nail a position down in. Look a Sanchez at barca. I think you can draw very similar lines between the two (I think Sanchez is better) but you catch my drift

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 12:52:52
Found Wenger's comments interesting today
'Some times you have to take a gamble and we are not opposed to that, maybe we gamble, I'm not opposed to that'

(Those aren't the exact 100% words but I'm going off memory here people! It's not exaggerated though, it's the gist of it)

If you cast your mind back to Özil, people were questioning our lack of movement and he said 'maybe I have a surprise for you?'

Reeks of the classic Wenger bluff.
'I don't know Cazorla' springs to mind.

It's either going to go 2 ways.

We're about to make an expensive signing or we're about to sign an unproven player in the ilk of Koscielny.

Now we wait!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2015 13:23:35
We are going to sign no one. Wenger is happy with the squad.

Cant see Everton losing to city today but do expect Chelsea to get their season underway as for us we simply have to get our first home win of the season tomorrow anything less would be a big worry that's for sure.
I'm not disrespecting or underestimating Liverpool but they were in the rebuilding process even before they lost Suarez Gerrard and Stirling so it would be a concerned if we didn't earn all 3 pionts against them tomorrow and rises serious questions about our title challenging credentials.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2015 10:35:57
Your right G62. If we're talking about challenging and winning the PL we should be beating Liverpool at home and away also should be winning at home against City, Chelsea and united whilst taking points at two of them away. That is the minimum standard of a team that wins the PL

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 10:46:44
I see a city win here. Probs wrong but il go for city to get 3goals again.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 11:50:02
18 points every 8 games will make us very close, 5 wins 3 draws or 6 wins 2 defeats or obviously a mix along the way, beat Liverpool Newcastle Stoke Leicester and Manchester United and anything from the Chelsea game is a bonus.
Not easy but winning the premier league isn't easy but I think it's doable if we can keep level headed and take both victories and set backs in our stride along the way.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 13:08:14
Hoping for a Chelsea draw

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 08:41:49
If arsenal did something similar to city with the tunnel cameras and all the footage of players in training and new signings at their first day at the club, it would be fantastic for the supporters to watch in my opinion. What do you guys think?

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 08:12:29
With only 2 teams left with a 100% record in the premiership and they are Liverpool & Man City. Is this a sign that the premiership will be won by a low points tally of around the premiership record of 75 points. If so are we in with a better chance of winning the league this year?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2015 08:43:25
It'll be a lower points tally for sure I'd say.
Mourinho was right (for once) that the smaller clubs have bought very well this summer.
Cabaye's a great signing for Palace.
Bournemouth have been spending shrewdly.
Sunderland have strengthened and will continue so.
Norwich have got a couple players in too.

Then look at mid table sides,
Swansea have done very well, especially with Ayew.
West Ham have bought in good players, Payet especially.
Everton look set to bring in Yarmolenko

So games where you were going and expecting an easy 3 points, are now becoming games where even though you should still be getting the 3, it's going to be harder, you're going to have to work for it.
And that's when big teams slip up, they get complacent against the little guys and they drop points.

Unless City run away with it (they already look fantastic) it'll be close at the top this year.

Title winners will have over 80 points I feel.

I agree Derby we haven't made 80 pionts since? I know winning the title is the be all and end all no matter how you do it but if we won it on 79 pionts I would feel we hadn't improved just that others would have dropped to our level.
But I expect the champions to have 84 pionts minimum come next May and that's well doable for us, 84 pionts would show massive improvement no matter where we finished in the table.

Eds if benzema did become available, could you see united beating arsenal to signing him as they are lacking firepower upfront?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I would expect that they would be in the best place to make a deal with Madrid, due to the De Gea situation, but it would come down to where Benzema wanted to go in large part.}

23 Aug 2015 08:38:20
My argument for this (wether it's correct or not being a different matter) is if you're going to work somewhere and you know someone who's worked there, you asked them what it was like!

I can't imagine Di Maria will have many good things to say to Benzema about Utd.
'The manager's a dictator, they don't actually have any fans from Manchester, etc etc'

I'm pretty sure Mesut would have nothing but positive words on us!
Look how much support he gets from fans, whenever rivals/media get on his back!

I dare say Utd would be interested, but we've got Özil, a known friend and we've got the Wenger factor!

If we accept that De Gea and wages will give utd buying power and there's every chance he will go there if he becomes available anything different is a bonus.
I just think so many Arsenal fans have convinced themselves he is coming they will feel betrayed if he joined utd without any justification for feeling that way.
I hope he joins us but don't expect him to.

Oh no I don't expect him to come really , as I've said before in one my earlier posts I don't expect him at Arsenal come deadline day. But thank you ed the de gea situation would certainly come in handy for United but I guess if they respect Benzema they will let him choose where he wants to go.

I think we will sign cavani maybe on a year loan with option to buy next year just don't see Benz coming this year

wanyama has told southampton he wants to leave... would be a great signing for us i reckon however i fear he may be spurs bound. If we went in for him we could get him for sure.

I agree, we should have signed him when he left Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 08:34:42
It'd be a shame if we weren't interested if he is leaving.
Wanyama's a monster.
He may not be 'world class' but he's certainly better than Flamini and Arteta right now!
He's relatively young too, so he'll only get better.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he has no positional sense, doesn't anticipate danger only reacts and can't pass. He is not good enough for Arsenal in my opinion.}

23 Aug 2015 09:12:03
I really thought we would get him when he left Celtic because he gave us what we desperately needed at the time, but now Le Coq is a far better player and we should be looking for the next Wanyama or better still the next Le Coq.

I've a fair few friends that are season ticket holders at Southampton and they love him tbh,

Eds he's a lot better than you make out. His touch is a lot better than mo sakho's. BTW how is his season going mate

Celtic have a good DM BTW. I'd of bitton there hands off for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what the hell has a centre back got to do with a defensive midfielder? Clueless retort. You might want to try watching and then you would know Bitton is not a defensive midfielder so your knowledge is clearly non-existent.}

23 Aug 2015 10:28:21
Really Ed?
I must admit, I don't watch many Saint's games, so my view is probably way off!

I guess I'm just too keen to get someone in for that defensive mid role!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he was fine when carried by Schneiderlin, but he is not that good on his own. Watch the goal against Everton where he sells himself going into a challenge near the halfway line with Lukaku, which allowed Lukaku to just run past him and he was then left trailing as Lukaku received the ball back on the edge of the box to score. A top class defensive midfielder would never have sold himself there, they would have looked to block the run instead and no goal would have been scored.}

23 Aug 2015 10:50:38
I love how rattled you get eds. So who sits in the Celtic team? Iv seen a lot of bitton.

Sakho is a defender but I said skirtel is better you were having non of it. :( very harsh on him indeed. Sakho plays you into trouble. Dropped now and your better for it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sitting is not a defensive midfielder's role. Pirlo sat but was in no way a defensive midfielder. As for rattled, that is just you being childish and having a pathetic sly dig over nothing. Bitton is a playmaker, it is not difficult to see if you know football.

Better for it? Again clueless, we have been abysmal and Skrtel is a major part of the problem but you obviously think you know better. You might want to try watching players instead of the ball and understanding their game, then you would know your assessments are lacking in any substance or understanding. Sakho never played us into trouble, he got played into trouble by a midfield wandering off and not looking when he had the ball. Hardly the same thing.}

23 Aug 2015 12:46:26
I'll keep an eye out next time I see saints play!

What your saying about his partnership with Schneiderlin is understandable, it's like how I worry Le Coq may not do so well without Santi next to him!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is exactly it, a clever player alongside one who runs around a lot can make a good partnership, but it doesn't mean the guy who runs around is actually any good individually.}

23 Aug 2015 13:04:33
U always see the who sits deepest in the midfield as the most defensive. You wouldn't play gilberto as a winger or number 10. Bitton isn't a De jong but he gets his foot in. Let's brown push on.

There's s reason sakho has been dropped. I don't see

You remind me of the angry neighbour that pops the ball that gets kicked over.

Everton eds is the one that invites you round to collect and you leave with an extra Mars bar

{Ed025's Note - i need to toughen up derby mate.. :)
