If Arsenal fail to beat Utd then their record against the top clubs this season doesn't merit a top 4 place.

But we are the second best against teams in the bottom half.

15 x 2 x 3 = 90 points that are not dependent on the games you mention, which account for only 24 points for a total of 114 points in a season.

The beauty of declaring a league champion after home and away ties is that it rewards the most consistent team; not necessarily the best team against other top teams.

If you do well in the games you should win you will be there or thereabouts without even considering the games against the other teams vying for the title or top 4.

To become a title contender next year, we just need to not drop points in games we should win and perhaps do a little better in the big games at least at home, but entirely too much focus by fans and the media is on the "big games. "

If Spurs do not get into the top 4 this year they should look at their games against Wigan not their games against United, City, Chelsea or us.

Proven

When arsenal player gets sold in the prem league they will win the pre league, RVP, nasari, clichy.

Based on this all arsenal players will be now valuable for the prem league clubs as they are guranteed success.

I suggest we use this to offload diaby/ramsey/gervinho/santos/bentdner/park/chamak/denilson

I'm a big fan of Giroud and Gervinho but I don't see why Wenger signed them? They really are not what we play

----Szczesny/Adler----
Jenks--Kos--TV5/Howedes--Nacho
------Wilshere--Fellaini
Walcott--Cazorla--Jovetic
----------Podolski--------

Adler - £5m

German international who should be playing in big games for a big club. An absolute steal at £5-8m, there are some top clubs who could do with a keeper of his quality and i'm sure they are watching him too.

Howedes - £17m

Especially if Vermaelen becomes the next Arsenal captain to be sold. Top class centre half in the making. He is no slouch, reads the game well, strong, good in the air and a leader on the field. Signed a new contract recently but £17m for a defender is top dollar.

Fellaini - £24m

Now that would be a statement of a signing. Unlike all of the other big central mids we are lusting after, this one plays in this league. £24m for someone whos been dominant in this very league?
Yes please!

Jovetic - £22m

Potential world beater, needs to be playing with better players this stage of his career and I can see the move happening. He and Podolski would complement each other so well, both love drifting to the left and ghosting into the box.

Total spend - £68m

We keep hearing about a £70m war chest that is coming Wenger's way, even though I keep thinking its too little if we were to spend it that way I would be a happy gooner.

If I were being really greedy I would want us to spend another £30m on either Di Maria or Reus.

It is not impossible, factor in to account how other teams will be strengthening in the summer. If the spurs qualify for the chapions league you can bet on Levy and AVB going after quality to compete. Chelsea could spend big either way, City will get the Cavani's of this world and United are linked with Strootman while being 20+ points ahead of us.

Sooner or later we will have to spend massively if we plan on winning titles again.

Bendtner's Ego

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would quite like most of that. A couple of worries though

1) We would then have Mert, Kos, Verm and Howedes as CBs. They won't be happy on the bench so I don't see that happening unless someone leaves. We need a 4th CB but it will be someone that can play RB or CDM as well or a youngster.
2) Fellaini and Wilshere is a lot too offensive I think. We would need some squad rotation.
Those signings would make our squad a lot stronger though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your not considering the wages. the wages are included in what arsenal supposedly has available. SO when you say jovetic 22. its probably +10. likewise for fellaini. so there is 2 players to take the entire budget.

Agree0 Disagree0

Daniel that is just what Wenger says to help support his lack of spending. If we have a £70m transfer kitty then that's exactly what it is, not a transfer and wages kitty. Wages come out of revenue as an operating cost. When we sign a player for £10m on £5m a year for 4 years, the club doesn't lose £30m in one go. It pays 10m plus all the usual transfer costs and then the player gets paid monthly out of revenue.

You believe what the club tells you too readily. None of the players' wages come out of the TF budget - it's a TF budget. Anyway, selling players not only dents TF fees but those wages are used in new contracts for incoming players.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's true Daniel. But when arshavin leaves does that not free up 90k a week?

Agree0 Disagree0

Its been reported that Fellaini could be available for £25m and in these days of "add ons" £22m plus should get him.

Fiorentina want €30m for Jovetic. Again, that's £22m plus add ons.

These two are not elite players in terms of profile and marketability. Only the top drawer players command £160k+ per week.
You think these two would turn down £100k/120k per week?

Gervinho's Forehead

Agree0 Disagree0

Wages will be freed up yeh. I hope Arsene wenger does what he hasn't done once since he came to arsenal, and spend big money on a 'big' player. but seeing as its never happened, I don't expect it to happen now.

Eds, which Dortmund players could also be off in the summer?

With Gotze heading to Bayern and Lewandowski getting a lot of attention, are there other players in the shop window? {Ed002's Note - Hummels.}

I'm waiting for next seasons "bill" to arrive from the Emirates, and then when I've paid-up, to suffer the annual depression when nothing happens to give us hope for a title challenge. You all know the scenario. The crap won't move on and 1 or 2 2nd - raters will turn up. S. O. S. O.
Come on admit it. We will be conned again by the Board 'aka' Silent Stan and his 'Representative on Earth' Mr. Wenger. Any replies?
comments? etc.

Well you ve got the answer mate don t renew I m not and I ve had a season ticket since 1976 always gone away aswell but until that cowboy and his mob go back over the pond I m out. If Jovetic wasn't to happen for what ever reasons, who would be your realistic ST purchase

Was thinking we really need a top top poacher
Huntlaar for me seems realistic and quite a good option if not
Any one remeber Sow the former Lille player? In turkey now might be worth revisiting that one

Also all this talk of DMs not many mentioning Strootman, not a through and through DM but would still do a valid role?

Reus to play off Giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2013 13:45:18
Saw a post further down about Vela and was just wondering, could he be the natural goalscorer that we need upfront? I could honestly see him partnered with Giroud, banging goals in for fun every week.

We all talk about Girouds link up play and his work rate and how if he had someone beside him or in front of him in a 442 or 4411, we could be onto a winner, so why not Vela?

We all know that every penny is a prisoner when it comes to out club, and we are sceptical about all big money rumours we are involved in. So does it not make sense that Wenger would show faith in one of his "prodigys" while not spending any of the clubs money? Would you as a fan be happy with that as an option?

We already have the players for a two up top formation it's just we don't play it

Vela not the answer just not good enough Walcott Giroud would be good partnership even podolski

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Right now it seems as though United and Bayern are leading the chase. Wouldn't be surprised to see City get involved

From what I have read ( considering none of it maybe true ) between Manchester United and Bayern.

Unless Dortmund do an Arsenal and sell to their division rival. I have a bad feeling he will end up in that hypocrite side of england.

I really, really think we should give Frimpong a go. Thinking about our midfield, I really like Arteta and Ramsey, who I think got a bit of a rough deal until lately, and of course Arteta plays a more withdrawn role. But I still believe that their inclusion is designed to boost technical prowess rather than protecting the back 4. Defensively we have been very tight recently, which I have been delighted to see, but I do not think we could maintain that over a season with everyone in the middle being some kind of playmaker (again, I would say that even Arteta is in this category).

For me, Wilshere and Cazorla is enough creative spark in the middle (where we really need to boost it is on the wings). Frimpong is an absolute beast, has great stamina and doesn't ramble up field needlessly. Coquelin is also a good prospect but disappears a bit sometimes, Frimpong always gets stuck in, at least in every appearance I have seen him involved in for Arsenal and Wolves, before he got injured. Has anyone seen him play for Fulham post-injury? I guess this would be the one worry.

Either way, I think we should give him a go in a central trio with Wilsh and Cazorla (towards next season). I know people want Capoue, Wanyama etc for this role but I believe we have a diamond in the rough ourselves, and one who already knows our team.

I'm pretty sure that Frimpong hasn't been used much at Fulham, I also get the impression Arsene may prefer Coquelin.

It might be good to see Coquelin go out on loan to a team like Southampton and see what he's really made of. That depends on how much patience he has with waiting for a chance with us.

My real opinion is we can't wait for any more to develope, we need some of Arsene's much vaunted and little seen top, top quality. We need to be a rock of a unit in defence and I believe with a genuine CDM and Jenks, Koscielny, Vermaelen and Monreal all on form we may have that.

I'm not forgetting the need for another CB or our keeper situation.

Will defo get some people disagreeing (although the buttons have gone) but hear me out.

If anyone follows the Italian league they may be able to add some positives, but Jovetic scored something like 13 goals this season which is not exactly prolific. I have just watched the goals and half of them seem to be quite lucky, ie deflections and GK errors.

My point is that is he any better than Giroud? It's a genuine question. I think we need to spend big on the striker position and get a real goal machine, don't get me wrong Jovetic looks good, but having watched the 2 german teams the other night they both have much better players up front and they have scored more in a much harder league.

Harder league?Are you nuts!

Agree0 Disagree0

What harder league! The bundisliga is harder than the PL, you are high mate.

gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a good point, but he would not be brought in as a 'lead the line' sort of striker. Generally, he is more of a 'in the hole' no 10 sort of thing - for that, I would say 13 goals isn't too bad. Also, I reckon Serie A is a harder league defensively than Bundesliga. Of course Bundesliga has very high quality defenders in the top teams, but Serie A teams are mainly pretty solid at the back, not to mention the Italian style is markedly more defensive than this new, highly-technical German style we are seeing.

He would be involved with a front three probably consisting of himself, Podolski/Giroud and Walcott, so would be as involved in creating goals as scoring them. Do you know his stats for assists? That might show a better picture of whether he is worth signing.

If he came hand in hand with Lewandowski I'd be happy with that.

Ok slap me I need to wake up. Trouble is 337, were relying on the Giroud will storm it next season factor. A total unknown and if we do actually get him would the two up front together be the plan.

Just no idea what Mr Wenger is thinking or if we're even in for him, hopefully it's a smoke screen for Lewy. Lol.

I think the EPL is vastly over-rated. yes we have a lot of teams who give a lot of fight. but put them on the european stage and they would struggle.

the two platforms are different. aka tournament style and league style.

Also managers need to adapt quickly. and as much as people say fergie can change tactics like a wizard. I beg to differ. not since mourinho has a manager made impact substitutions to change the game so emphatically.

Wenger is no tactical genius either. but they are not fools like tito villanova was against bayern. they would have made changes earlier. but you live and learn I guess.

saying that klopp did a number on mourinho in the last game.

i see spanish league as the two on top and the rest who make do. get champions league and play well. the talent is there if the money is not.

same with bundesliga. talent exists.

italian league is too defensive, too tactical. its almost boring at times. hence strikers struggle. the only strikers that thrive are the pacy ones.

jovetic may have 13 but in our system he could have 20. let's just hope he is worth it.

i have read a few comments on here from arsenal fans saying do we need or why are we going to buy jovetic. It really winds me up fans do this every time we moan when we hear nothing about players coming to the club or players nobody as heard of and we all say we wish we would get an experienced or quality (big name) Player and has soon as it looks like a real possibility we will get jovetic who is a big name quality young player who can play up front or behind the striker and who man city juve and Chelsea are looking at some fans still moan and say do we really need him or they don't want him at the club. For me I don't care what position arsenal bring in this summer as long as they are quality quality players which this club needs.

As soon as one big name player comes to arsenal it will make it a bit easier to attract more big name players again, well that and start winning stuff again. The problem with some arsenal fans is if players don't perform week in week out they start calling for them to be sold. For example some fans saying podolski should be sold this summer because he has done alright but not great but that's the problem with arsenal these are the players you want to keep for a quality squad not just first 11 same for Gervinho I don't mind him staying at the club as long as we bring better players in. Players like Podolski Gervinho they have really good spells through the season so when someone from your first 11 who ever that maybe is playing poorly or needs a rest or injured you have players like Podolski Gervinho to replace them. There is no point selling these players because if arsenal did and they did bring better players to replace them what happens when they get injured or ain't performing well you are back to square one. Ferguson does it with utd when players like nani carrick valencia rooney play bad he has dropped them not sold them but dropped them and when a player gets injured or needs a rest they come back into the team and 9/10 they perform and get the job done.

sorry for the long speech

Well said Charlie. Sometimes a long post is needed to make the point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well we need to sell to buy so that's why its always 2 out one in for us.

however, I don't see the logic in selling players this summer.

get rid of the junk, squillachi, arshavin, fabianski ( good but we need world class potential), sagna, mannone.

Rosicky needs to be extended,

denilson, santos, park chu, bendtner need to all go. we don't need vela back. he's doing well there and that league suits him.

Jovetic would solve our front depth. but we still need a GK, CDM, CB and RB.

the wingers are in plenty. with walcott, poldi, gerv, ox, all able to play there.

adding a player like jovetic and pairing him with poldi looks enticing.

I am beginning to wonder what will we do with cazorla. considering we have wilshere who wants to play in that position.
