Very stupid red that nearly cost us the game and could impact our next 3 games.

I have sympathy with a player who see's red for a stupid/late tackle, but not too much if its a headbutt in front of the referee.

That said, and in the spirit of seasonal goodwill, let's not go too overboard.
Its his 3rd season and, as far as I can remember, his 1st red.

Stupid thing to do but we can cover him with Sanchez and Welbz.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't rate Giroud at all. Worst first choice striker we have ever had

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's hope your proved right in the 3 games he misses Derby, for my money we're far better with than without Giroud as I think has been seen every time he's missing

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Gun, Giroud and Arteta are two key guys that its easy not to notice. But when they are gone we are a far lesser squad.

Derby you aren't wrong because we have had some fantastic strikers for a long time - would trade ours for any other teams in the last 15 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rare we disagree Derby but Giroud is someone we have really missed, I think this will probably now be the time to introduce Theo .

One thing I will say about yesterday. not even a card for Rio?

Agree0 Disagree0

I thin the ref thought it punished QPR more to keep Rio on the pitch and available for more fixtures

Agree0 Disagree0

Not saying we don't miss Giroud and not saying we don't miss arteta. But there not good enough for arsenal. We should have better players at this football club if we want to win the league. I'm fed up with these average players. Henry. KANU wiltord anelka rvp bergkamp and now we have Giroud and welbeck. It pains me

Wenger didn't rate Costa at 32million last Jan. No excuse there

Agree0 Disagree0

Rio should of gone to the mls not nice seeing a world class defender strugglig now.

I rate clauker highly I'd sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags agree with you, What a wally.
He will be missed as much in defence against west ham
DERBY
Olly has done well for us, I know you're a benteke fan but for me I would rather have giroud,
On a brighter note did you see the speed giroud got up, No One can call him slow now

Agree0 Disagree0

Welsh benteke has over 4years on Giroud. What is it that Giroud has in his game better than benteke? Would Giroud keep villa up. I doubt it

When we finally get a better striker in one day we will look back and realise we had a donkey

That was a big fat stupid red card

We could have had an easy morale boosting end to the game and may be rested Sanchez - instead, we had to battle for 94 and pick up more bookings because of a moment of sheer stupidity

He didn't even have the decency to say sorry to Wenger as he bolted down the tunnel

Frustrating as we will need the goal difference, the confidence boost and rest time NOT players missing games:(

On a positive - thought Per looked better on the RHS of the defence and looked more confident plus I thought we defended quite well as a unit.

On a negative ( I am a fan) - thought Danny is looking uneasy up front - lots of running but poor touches, not holding the ball up, not many shots and not winning many headers etc to hold up play. Hope it's short lived as I really want him to do well. Hope he grabs his chance while Giroud is suspended

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree SY4, even Monreal looked confident and positive. Also, I thought Gibbs had a blinder (both defending-wise and going forward). It wouldn't surprise me to see Welbeck improve again whilst playing in a more central role in Giroud's absence.

The red card was extremely stupid and hopefully he does apologise, he seemed to have realised his foolishness straight away - he had a face like a smacked toosh before the referee even showed the red card. However, remember he has won us more games than he's lost us (we didn't even lose today), e.g. the last minute winner against Everton just before his injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Dec 2014 23:54:13
Don't disagree - really wanted to see us smash them 3 or 4 nil and gain some momentum :)

Agree0 Disagree0

U can't judge merts on a game against QPR at home. Merts will need to become a backup for us to win the league once more

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Dec 2014 10:10:26
Judge him when part of the right unit at the back and when playing in position - judge him when him and Kos have 5 games together under their belt together

He looked pretty good last season - he didn't become a crap player over night

Agree0 Disagree0

Sy4 my take on bfg is he's too slow to ever be a prem league winner for us and he's getting to the veteran stage as well. He can't be a regular starter for us. But neither can flam, giroud monreal, arteta or podolski. The more games we start with these players who are limited in movement the less chance we have of winning games. They heve all seen better days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Steve. Anyone with that little pace will struggle. He holds up back as others have to cover for him

Agree0 Disagree0

Struggle
He reads the game, very well
96 caps for germany.i think that says it all
With kos I think they're a good partnership
We still need to improve our defence and think mert will become our 3rd choice but he would walk into most teams in the prem

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason he might walk into most prem teams is he can't run . What ever he may or may not have done in the past, he is over the hill now. Plus you answered the question, he's only third choice standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

As iv said before prem games are harder than 90percent of international games. Faroe islands. Ireland. Wales. lichenstien. Etc all teams Germany should blow away

Peter crouch England record says it all. He was class against Trinidad etc wow zzzzz

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve that was whitty

Its an art turning easy winnable games against abliging opponents and making it hard. but we are the best in the league at that . gorude you have the brains of a gnat (sorry all gnats) and you are a disgrace, exactly what we didn't need, still can't see what all the fuss was about . Sancez you are a legend.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We look locked in a 4 way battle for 4th so the West Ham game is massive as will the Southampton game too. Sanchez has to stay fit especially with Olly being so pratmaticly stupid today.

Steve,

That's definitely the weirdest spelling of Giroud I have ever seen, lol.

Made me larrff :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes gunner, new year same old battle. I suppose we should be grateful for the thrill of the fourth place trophy chase. Thing is i'm not.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was going to put gired or gored, but my predictive spelling decided to put that and who am I to argue with productive text.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve
I didn't notice the spelling mistake.lol
I agree, we love to get the heart rate going.
Would love us to go 4 up against the hammers after 15mins then total waste time for the next 80,
So I can sit a chill

Solid display.

SIR THOMAS

26 Dec 2014 19:36:15
That was hard word purely and simply because of the stupidity of Giroud.

Arsenal could have bounced back with a 3 or 4 nil win but ended up having to work very hard.

Who thinks Giroud will get his wish and go to France for New Year. . . .funny that

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he's allowed to do that then what message does that send out?
Apparently Lee Chapman admitted he was one of a host of players who tried to get suspended for the boxing day game every year, I thought those days like the drinking culture had gone from modern day football

Agree0 Disagree0

BANNERS
You old sinick
He should sign things in the family enclosure.

Giroud you are such an elephant

Well done

Arsene fine him the maximum

W Ham, Southampton and Hull fixtures he misses

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep managed to beat Smalling in the stupidest red card award

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think it can match that, but I think he wanted a break by the looks of things, 3 matches spend time with the family crazy really!! AW dint like it and Giroud dint even look him in the eye I sense a stick up his a*** coming

spurs, Liverpool, Man U, Southampton all win, pressure is on us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Dec 2014 17:44:09
It's been on us for the last God knows how long, it's just a different season and different teams.

Certainly affected Sanchez, not sure why no Cazorla on that one.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't get that either but he put things right later

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Dec 2014 18:30:47
Just seeing the replay, Caz was stood there waiting to take it, crazy, but thankfully one up but as usual looking like they could equalise on any given attack. Lol.

I seriously hope Wenger has bucked tradition and got someone lined up for next week.

Me thinks there is more chance of Michael Owen turning into a top co commentater.

Martinez finally being found out. He will slowly make teams worse. Anyone that signs Joel kone and alcaraz has issues

Hey Derby,

Can't believe you've come on without making mention of another great striker getting in amongst the goals today.

Felt for sure you'd have him as a nailed on for us in the window.

I'd not heard of him before but you no doubt will have, Emile Heskey, looks like a star in the making. ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha I don't follow the championship.

Just debating on Sky about Arsenal

AW says " I don't think we have gone backwards this season "

Cottee thinks Arsenal are still a top 4 finish.

LE Tiss saying Arsenal are 9 points worse than at the same time last season. not sure that matters as its what tally you get at the end of the season.

Thommo. saying its the quality of the football that's worrying.

LE Tiss . Theo will make a massive difference.

As much as I believe Wenger isn't the man I do believe . yet again we have been so unlucky with injuries and hopefully when we get them all back we will have an improved run of form, is that down to Wengers training methods. open for debate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need to buy bigger stronger players. I'd be happy with Winston Reid and scharr to plug the defence for now

Agree0 Disagree0

If the prize was a £1million and the two part question back in August was who will finish 4th and who will have the most injuries to first team players I think most of us, most of football and most people at the club would go Arsenal on both counts simple because that's what always hasppens.
We, the players the club all talk us up every August but if our house's depended on it we'd bet the same again next season too.
Expectations need raising from top to bottom no one person is to blame or can put it right alone its time to stop talking us up and start changing how we do things IMO

I see AW has said C Chambers is tired. WTF

Please do me a favour

What about Sanchez, no one has worked harder than him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chambers is 19 and playing in his first full season as a regular. For a young guy playing in defence there's a lot more pressure on you. Sanchez has played a lot more seasons as a first team regular. He works harder than most but Wenger is right in what he's saying about Chambers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chambers has had some shocking games lately
But at 19 I was tailing beaver 24/7

Agree0 Disagree0

Mentally tired too, I would think

Agree0 Disagree0

Yorkshire

Understand that, but Arsenal have more possession of the ball than most teams, so you would imagine he does less chasing than most.

We have played 17 league games. . .he is tired.

NO mate I m not having that .

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Dec 2014 16:30:10
I think he means he is not too tired to play but given his experience he is now showing his lack experience plus lack of sharpness
Which translated as being tired
I agree with him - it's a tough league and he is still a kid despite the 16m price tag and high wages, give the kid a break

26 Dec 2014 13:02:40
In festive mood, so 3-0.

Santi, Olly and Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its 4 0 for me, I expect a reaction to the criticism from Liverpool performance

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to think 3-0 but I feel we haven't many clean sheets in us so 3-1

2-0
olly for the 2

5-1, before you shoot me down remember its christmas and I may be overly merry!

Just an opinion/observation not a moan (honest :-) I think every bit as important as signing quality we need a couple of very strong characters with winning expectations who will raise the expextations of others not players who will after a couple of months fall into the same subconscious trap of accepting our limitations without actually realizing it.
We have a lot of players have been with us a long time and it must be difficult as a group not to somehow develop an inferiority complex when it comes to competing with the very best after so long of not doing so.
I think raising everyone's expectations of themselves and each other is the first and most important step towards being a real force again
