Congratulations on fellow Gooner Ronnie ''Rocket'' O'Sullivan on winning his 5th World Championship after 11 months out of the game. His opponent Barry Hawkins put up a good fight but the Rocket is simply wonderful to watch.

All these rumors with fab4 returning is unlikely however if there is a chance I hope wenger goes all in even though we do not really need a play of his position but we desperately need a player of his ability he was tue best midfielder in the league and I dnt think we would need a stircker if we were to get fab back look at his goal, return for his last two, seaons also the assiss to help giroud even though we have santi and jqck fab will be starting it just shows how we can't believe we can have players suchas sanit on the bench we need top quality on the bench also not that santi will be a bench player but it jus adds more hopefully wenger can pull through also, I think if higuain is available at a reasonable price we should be ready to put money dwn hopeful summer signings
Fab4
Higuain
Williams
Essien
Cesar would cost around 60 million
Outs
Gervinho
Fabianski
Chamakh diaby
Squioaci frimpong
And promote gnabry and cambell to the first squad

Im not entirely sure about all these rumours for players we will definitely sign, for example essien for free? but we do need a dm. however if newcastle get relegated, especially if we help them on their way in the final game of the season, I would be v up for tiote, would this be at all likely eds? i'd have thought he'd be cheaper than wanyama with his cl premium. ? also i'm thinking instead of david "wages" villa, surely wenger will go for the cheaper remy? either way should be an interesting time once the seasons ups. In Arsene We Trust.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Seriously. have people seen titote play, in reall life. He CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT pass a ball to save his life. unless you count either a. floating it aimlessly from the centre circle to somewhere in the box. or floating it aimlessly out for a throw. He would be awful for arsenal

I can't believe people are questioning the return of fabregas, regardless of having a packed midfield with pretty decent quality, taking on a player who will improve on what we have shouldn't be scoffed at no matter what the position is. I know we need a DM CB RB and ST but come on people, this is fabregas. we know his quality and if this is the time for him to return the sooner the better in my opinion.

Think it might've been Ed 029, but I can't remember.

Anyway, one of the eds said that our current debt is at $385 million.

I didn't even know the emirates stadium even cost that much, and if our debts are so high, then why has Wenger been saying things like 'we can spend now' and 'we have gone through a tough stage, now we can invest more' etc.

I'm a bit lost here, if anyone can offer some knowledge that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick. {Ed027's Note - It works out as £253m gross debt, this is from the stadium loan which will be repaid at a fixed rate , money will come from new commercial deals and TV deal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks Ed027,

It is hard sometimes to know what the deal is with Arsenal's debt.

As fan's get excited about figures like less than 100 million pounds net debt (liabilities versus liquid assets). Whereas our actual debt is two hundred and fifty million pounds plus.

I actually agree with Ivan, on this point, that not all debt is bad debt, with the stadium debt, we now have the third or fourth largest gate receipts in Europe and relatively low interest rates over a long period of time, which I think justifies the move from Highbury.

If we can up our commercial deals to compete with the biggest clubs in Europe and the Premier League keeps getting bumper tv deals, we should be able to compete at the top table indefinitely. Especially, if FFP is actually enforced.

Maybe a bit hopeful, because, even if we have the money, we have to spend it wisely and our wage bill is a bit disconcerting.

Maybe with all the transfer talk and promise, we could see a change in tactics/formation in the summer. I can definitely see Cesc coming back and Wenger tinkering with the formation to accommodate him. Also, we have probably one, if that, out and out winger atm. And there aren't really that many we can buy. So surely we should revert to a formation that suits our strengths i. e. flood the midfield. Maybe a 4312 with 2 strikers. The back 4 would stay the same. The middle 3 could then be fought for by Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere and Cesc (?). The 1 cf/cam position filled by Chambo/Santi/Cesc, and the 2 striker roles competed for by Poldi, Theo, Giroud, Jovetic/Remy (?) and Gervinho if he stays. Chambo wants to move into the middle and Poldi and Theo are strikers so they will be happy. And we may lose some width, but the fullbacks can more than easily provide enough considering how good the midfield would be.

Question eds if you can be ask.
I know the agree/disagree buttons aren't coming back. Just wondering why they've gone in the first place? Thanks.

Would be interested to see how many would want it back. I've got a great idea on how to find out. ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id love them back, its what the site is all about, banter! You can't call it banter without people disagreeing with you.

CheetahChaz97

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought it would be good when they went as it would make people comment on topics/opinions as apposed to hiding behind a "disagree" button.

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely better without them. You could tell from some of the posts, that people were clicking agree/disagree multiple times.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul - Rochester
Sometimes though a post hits the nail on the head and you have nothing to add, but want to just give a little nod one way or the other. The agree/disagree buttons did just that. It was just a nice little option that's all.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Flybo those functions did nothing except create sheep and gang mentality whereby - people would click agree just because loads of others had (it's human psychology 101 so no point in everyone denying it) aka the sheep mentality, and the gang mentality where certain people's posts would collect an abundance of agrees/disagrees more to do with who the poster was rather than what they said. Many people have left the site due to these issues and they don't make the page more worthwhile. Also if people disagree but cba to explain why then their contribution is pointless.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good arguments against. I except the sheep analogy. Deserved a name to it. Consider my opinion changed.

I have never pressed the agree or disagree button just because loads of people had, I either agree or disagree then press the right button, I think your sheep analogy is bull****

All these Cesc rumours are fantastic aren't they. In a recent interview when asked about his future he stated only he knew. Surely if he was going to stay in Barca he would have just said so? He must be doubtfull at the moment. He's gone from being a superstar at Arsenal to surplus to demands at Barca. Someone on this site put it brilliantly once, he's just another cog in the machine that feeds Messi. However, I just cannot see Wenger paying £24m or so for him when CM/CAM is our best stocked position along with LB. Unless Wenger intends to change back to a 4231 with Cesc in the main CAM role, Cazorla more on the left and Wilshere alongside a new CDM or Arteta/Ramsey. I would love this change as 433 just doesn't work without proper wingers.

Jovetic is another interesting one. Apparently he's had a poor season but I rarely watch Serie A so I can't really comment. But the few times I have seen him he looks very Del Piero/Berkamp kind of player. Great touch, control and dribbling abilities. Very good link up play and strenght too. He does look built for the PL. At £25m I think Wenger should take the gamble but again doubt he will when he has faith in Giroud and there are other cheap options, a la Remy. Whom I would also be pleased to see.

Over past few games I have really changed my mind on what additions i'd like to see defensively. I don't think we need a CDM as having to high energy CMs in Ramsey and Wilshere could do the job. Aaron Ramsey has been spectacular these last couple games and has earnt his place in the side. The CB pairing is also continuing to work well. Vermaelen also is more than adequate cover. LB sorted, RB I don't think we need to sell Sagna, we should keep him as 2nd choice RB and 4th choice CB.

In summary team i'd like to see next season.

Szeszecncy
Jenkinson - Mert - Kos - Gibbs
Wilshere - Ramsey
Walcott - Fabregas - Cazorla
Jovetic

Fabianski
Sagna - Vermaelen - Miquel - Monreal
Coquelain - Arteta
Ox - Rosicky - Podolski
Giroud

Just 2 £25m signings would transform us into a real contender. Lots of competition in the squad aswell.

Detroit Gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was the 'cog in the machine' guy, well remembered! and if we sign fabregas and jovetic this summer (which I don't believe will happen) - it would be the best summer transfer window EVER.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly we are unlikely to get one, let alone both. But I reckon around £50m will be spent. Fabregas and Jovetic was just a thought.

Detroit Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Arteta over ramsey any day.

Agree0 Disagree0

That would be nice but even if those names don't come in the idea is right. £50m on two quality players.

-I'd also say Coq out and another CDM in (Capoue or similar). I like Coq but I don't think he's quite going to be good enough for us.
-Sagna out and replaced (cheap and French probably)
-Fabianski out and replaced (Cesar?)
These final ones should not cost much extra and wages will be freed by other players leaving.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 May 2013 12:20:39
There seems to be a lot of buzz in general around arsenal and who they will sign this year, with a fair few £20mil+ names seeming real credible.

Personally, I see jovetic coming (a poor mans lewandoski (sp?) in my opinion) and a triple underlined maybe di maria. We've had holding midfielder problems for years since gilberto left, I don't rate our chances of actually filling the space to highly in all honesty, as daft as it may seem.

Ed: has the stadium debt genuinly been cleared and arsenal in a significantly better financial position with regards to signings, or is it all press venting frustrated fans opinions, resulting in a pile of hear'say?

stantheman {Ed029's Note - Arsenal's debt stands at $385M right now mate.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed, this website says otherwise. Net debt of just 98m. Is that false? {Ed027's Note - That is net debt, gross debt is Ed029's figures (£253m), Net debt is minus cash reserves i would of thought

Agree0 Disagree0

Is Net debt 98m good for a football club?

REDman,

I'm guessing you're fed up with Groundhog Day on your own page.

Just to speak about your banter with Lakerville whilst you're back here again.

His point I believe was, yes we are alike in making our own money, but you like City and Chelsea now, had a lot of it compared to us and spent it accordingly and won accordingly.

We have gone through the Stadium build and thus couldn't compete financially with you let alone the other two and lost players etc etc.

So you were like them but out of your own pockets, along comes the oil money and there goes your monopoly of the EPL. Cue the bitterness and hatred of Chelsea and City to add to your already considerable hatred of Liverpool.

Having only found this site late last year, your page is littered with the most bitterness that you try and turn against anyone who tells you otherwise.

As a fan base, yes there are some good ones and you have a genuine core but the majority I see and read on your page drag you down. You want the Oil money to go away so you can have it all. Never have I read the words, world class or biggest club in the world more than on your page.

Your biggest downfall is your constant need as fans to blow others candles out to make yours shine brighter.

It really is no wonder that last year it wasn't just the Sunderland fans but the whole country doing the Posnan.

And it's Mr No Name to you ;-)

You are neither clever nor remotely funny.

Whereas calling out a fan of the team 20 points above you, is genius, and your sign off has everyone in stitches.

You know how it's obvious you speak utter garbage? You're third paragraph claims you and united are alike. I don't care in what context you put it mate, United challenge for titles and you don't. United fill their stadium week in, week out, year round, you don't. United buy quality, you don't. United worry the "rich sugar daddy clubs" like City and Chelsea whereas you don't.

Usually wouldn't bother standing up for a United fan, but you, like most arsenal supporters I know, still think you matter. Guess what. You don't.

You pretty much jumped in with the same two feet that REDman did, turn it all around to cover up your own obvious shortcomings. Still next time I'm after an opinion from some one outside the human race feel free to give an opinion again on something way beyond your obvious IQ.

I see a lot of people say they want cesc back. Well, me too. But for what price? Is this the right moment to splash 30m on a position where we are well staffed?

In a couple of years, when the situation may have changed I would love to see fabregas return, but at the moment I feel we will have to prioritize.

I think what we need for next season is an effective winger. A player who can take on the fullback one on one, cross the ball in to the striker, and even score some goals through out the season.

For the people saying that we need a striker, I don't think so. As we speak we have 3 good strikers in Walcott, Podolski and Giroud. All of them with over 10 goals this season. And two of them in their first season for the club. Give them some time to settle and I promise you goals. If Walcott continue his progress he will easily score around 20 goals in the PL next season, Giroud and Podolski will score about 15 each.

What we need is a fullback, to replace Sagna that I don't see playing for us next season. Wether we buy a young fullback to compete or back up for Jenkinson, I really don't mind, because I think Wenger knows that best.

We also need a defensive, tackling midfielder. I think Arteta has played that position well for to seasons now, but over time he will need a replacement, and Diaby is way to injuryprone to be reliable, sadly. Maybe Coquelin would be a good option, he has certainly done the job when called upon. He has decent technique as well. But I would love to see that Vieira type of player in Arsenal again.

When it comes to the centre back position I think we are well staffed here as well. Koscielny and Mertesacker are a very good team, and with Vermaelen back in form next season we can rotate the back four when we want, with good options on every position.

For me the coming transferwindow will be all about signing one or two world class players, and a couple of minor signings. There are good young players coming up. Buy Di Maria, Reus, Robben or a player in that mold, that we know can produce a world class performance.

Sorry for long post.

T-Ho

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe u should play up front if u can promise goals? :-)
Chris the REDman

We def need a DM and RB to complement or complete our squad.

however it is the goals we seem to be lacking lately. our defense has been the best in the league over the past 14 games. not a bad stretch.

I was watching Espn italian football and the Fiorentina game was on last nite. Jovetic was not in the side and they said that he was having a poor season and has not scored many goals. Why are we buying someone for a lot of money who cannot get into Fiorentina side.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I googled fiorentina's last game and i'm pretty certain he started vs roma but was subbed off after 71 minutes.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was not subbed off, he came on as a sub in the last 19 mins.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was subbed off for Luca Toni. Fiorentina then went on to lose the game 1-0

Agree0 Disagree0

He was subbed because he was injured 2 weeks and he is not ready to play all the match

Agree0 Disagree0

So 4 posters who watched the game but who can't agree if jovetic was playing and subbed on or off?

great scouting guys. {Ed035's Note - he was subbed for Toni and didn't have a great game even though his link up play and movement was impressive..

Agree0 Disagree0

I have watched him against england and I was impressed. saw his vids on youtube and his goals don't stand out.

so i'm not sure how good he can be, I am sure he has potential, but I would spend another 10 mill and go for a proven lethal goalscorer who has put atleast 20-25 goals a season over the last 3 years.

Hang on, we lost home & away to chelski! It's our own doing and we have to deal with it. I just hope wenger and the board realise they are treading a fine line season after season. guys i'll prob get disagrees for this but I am going to say it, I know it ain't much of a positive finishing fifth but if we do I think that'll be a good a time as any for usmanov to make kroenke a massive offer he couldn't refuse and not making cl might make him want to sell? I know finishing outside cl is bad but if we do and kroenke sells and that's a big if usmanov could splash the cash and still bring in big players because as we all know money talks in football. I wouldn't even care how much profit kroenke would make if he sold as long as he does it and take gazidis with him to.
hope you can see what I mean by this post guys
as always opinions welcome

THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG ONE AND WOULDN'T BLAME YOU FOR NOT READING IT.
Further down there is a post from gooner Wayne commenting on the fact that if we do not get top 4 we can not have any complaints (apart the ones directed to the board and manager). The way this season has gone I agree. Now whether your in the "we are lucky" mind set, or "you make your own luck, " there is no doubting that for the last three to four years we've been blessed with other teams (well one to be precise) of bottling it year after year.

I hate the spuds. Yes hate is a strong word that's why I chose it. Now don't judge me when I say i've thought what it must be like to be a spud. I mean we as fans are frustrated at the lowering of standards over the years, but our standards have always included CL.
So just imagine if the tables were turned. All Arsenal need to do is beat West ham away and we're in the top 4, but due to the hotel we're staying at some of our players suffer food poisening and not only blow it, but have the spurs get 4th instead.
2 nil up against the spuds, with a win which would see us 13 points clear for third. We lose 5-2 and crumble to see the spurs gain third, but at least we get 4th. Which is then snatched away by chavski winning the CL and taking our place.
I mean just think how f##king s*** it must be when you choke, and the team that you despise the most is always the one that wins the day.

Maybe this year it's our turn. When the chokers don't choke, the luck runs out, and our standards which don't include trophies now also don't include CL. Like a stagnated pond, It stinks.

OHH WHO AN I TRYING TO KID.
OF COURSE WE'LL GET TOP 4. THIS IS THE spurs WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. I think?
Flybo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It really wasn't that long.

Agree0 Disagree0

If only that was the first time I had heard those words.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha. But to the op, the spurs have barely been in the CL, so they're not really missing out on anything they now are they lol?

Agree0 Disagree0

Either way for me it is positive.

as long as we don't sell our better players we can only improve.

we land 4th, the onus is on us to spend money and buy players who want to compete in the champions league.

say we end up 5th. then we have europa league, not the best situation, but then we actually have a shot at being favourites and trying and winning it.

or the other way of looking at it. say we are doing well in the EPL, wenger decides to not go all out in europa and we save our best team for the league.

there's always a negative way. but there are quite a few positives. due to the lack of depth in our squad. having a full team for EPL and half team for europa could be good until the new year. then when the pressure piles up. we should be fine. we love the last run in. or so it has been. its the start that sucks.
