Now that Chelsea have signed Eto'o, they will look to offload Torres. If discounted enough, I am sure Wenger would be interested. I am not sure how I would feel abut this one, but he does play better for Spain than Chelsea. We are more similar to Spain's style than Chelsea. Also, Rooney to Chelsea is done.

Should be interesting.

Thoughts?

{Ed022's Note - Rooney to Chelsea is done? I hope you mean done as in, its over, its done, its not going to happen. As for Torres, I have laughed my backside off at the shadow of the player he has become. I think he has lacked a Steven Gerrard style player at Chelsea. Gerrard use to thread balls to him for fun and Torres gladly finished. I think his confidence is through the floor. As for him signing for Arsenal, for the right price I wouldn't be completely against it and who knows? Maybe his fellow Spaniard Cazorla threading balls through to him a la Gerrard, he could prove to be a hit...}

Arsenal NYC

1.) Yes, Rooney to Chelsea is done as in over is what I meant. Thanks. Passes by Santi, Jack, and Rambo could work. Let's see how cheap he will be IF he is made available.

EDs,

Now that we have a 3 goal advantage coming into the return leg, it appears likely that we will be through to the group stage. Do you happen to know whether Arsenal will be considered seeded again and be in Pot 1? Would love to see City in Pot 2 or 3 again.

COYG {Ed044's Note - Ed02 said the seeding will be as per the rankings - so Pot 1 and Pot 3.}

Sign

GK: Iker Casillas 15M
RB: Toby Alderweireld 8M
CB: Adil Rami or Mamadou Sakho 8-10M
CDM: Geoffrey Kondogbia 17M
MF/W: Christian Eriksen or Florian Thauvin 15-17M

63-70M

Play Poldi and Theo along with Giroud at CF

Thoughts?

Arsenal NYC

1.) I'd be happy with that :)

2.) GK: I'll take Begovic for half that price, perhaps as much as £10 million.

RB, CB (what the hell why not both Rami and Sakho?) and CDM is fine.

What about Capel from Sp. Lisbon as a true LW, or was he sold somewhere else?

3.) £15m for Casillas, are you joking?

At this point, Wenger and Gazidis have to look at what has happened this window and and then look back at what has been done succesfully in the past.

Arsenal do not have a good history with South American players joining. Gilberto and Edu aside, where have the top players been really? Vivas? Sylvinho? Let's face it, but Suarez, Higuain, and Bernard were never favorites to join the club as there realy is not a Latin American culture within it. Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese clubs are much closer to their culture and are easier to attract the players and families to the lifestyle. United and Liverpool have a bigger recent history in introducing Latin American players in their sides and will be easier to sign these players.

Arsenal's past successes have come from western Europe for the most part. Mainly France and to a lesser extent, Spain, Holland, and Germany of late. They obviously have a better scouting system in place there and have a strong reputation based on past successes. I am sure players on national sides can also help in the recruiting of players when gathering for their respective countries.

Saying this, in the next 2 weeks, Arsenal should be pressing hard to sign players from these countries. They should have work permits and not have to worry about going on loan for years. The adaptation period should be less as well.

Geoffrey Kondogbia, Florian Thauvin, Adil Rami, Lars Bender, Sebastian Rode, Antoine Griezmann, Ignacio Camacho, Mamadou Sakho, Jeremy Menez.

Lots of strong players available, but time is running out.

If Suarez is not coming, need to focus on depth and improving other positions and possibly wait until January to buy a 'star' center forward.

Versatile defender (Mamadou Sakho, Adil Rami)

Defensive midfielder (Geoffrey Kondogbia, Luiz Gustavo, Lars Bender, Sebastian Rode)

Creative Midfielder/Winger (Christian Eriksen, Florian Thauvin, Javier Pastore, Ángel di María)

Versatile Squad Players (Mathieu Flamini)

With Vermaelen, Diaby, and others spending almost as much time in the trainers room as the pitch, we will never make it through an entire season this thin. As nice as some of the young players look, it is a very difficult thing to ask them to learn while playing the likes of United, City, and Chelsea.

Thoughts?

{Ed022's Note - I agree with the majority of your point, as I have mentioned on another post, we need defensive reinforcements such as Sakho, Rami, Gustavo or Bender. As for waiting til January to sign a "star forward" your idea is flawed as all star forwards will be playing for top clubs and will no doubt be cup tied in the champions league or domestic cups if they're are playing in the Premier League, sure, you can just have them playing in the PL but Wenger has never been a fan if players are cup-tied in Europe...}

Arsenal NYC

1.) Generally, we play a lone center foward in our system. Giroud, Pololski, and Walcott should be sufficient, if not world class. Suarez would have been adding something different to the attack as he prefers taking on defenders. If they can not get someone who adds something like this, then add something in another position. Di Maria is a pure class winger who would get proper balls to Giroud. Eriksen is every bit of a final ball creator as Gotze and would allow for rotation with Santi and Jack. Sakho is a beast who can play across the enitire back line.

As far as not finding someone in January, it is possible. Suarez for example is not in Europe. Michu came from out of nowhere last year as well.

Thanks for your input Ed.

{Ed022's Note - This is true, and I thought about Suarez after I had replied. He could be a January signing and wouldn't be cup-tied so maybe there is the case for that...}

Any further interest in Fabien Schaar like in January? Is Mattias Ginter moving from Freiburg to Dortmund or is he still a possibility as well?
Thanks EDs

Arsenal NYC

{Ed002's Note - (1) Not from Arsenal. (2) He will go to Dortmund unless there is a major hiccup.}
