Hi all, going to start with the clichè 'long time visitor of 3 years, first time poster' (well, I actually posted a few times before the registration thing). What I actually wanted to ask the eds about is whether there's any truth in the Roberto Firmino rumours, massive fan of his and been following him throughout last season and always said that a smart team should nab him. Thanks in advance :D

{Ed002's Note - Firmino agreed an extension recently but will very likely move in the summer with Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Zenit, Inter, Manchester United and Schalke interested - but Dortmund pushing for a deal. I am aware that Everton, Dynamo Kiev and Liverpool have also looked at Firmino but have not declared interest with his agent. Shakhtar have dropped their interest. Roberto Firmino was previously subject of a rejected bid from Southampton. May still be first choice to replace Alexis Sanchez but Arsenal and Inter are the two sides pushing.}

1.) Good stuff Ed.

LG, what does Firmino offer? ESPN thinks AW wants to turn him into a striker, but never watched him myself.

2.) @wire
Well with Firmino you get one of the Bundesliga's TOP performers last season and he did it with an average mid table Hoffenheim side, and at 22 he still has a big room to improve.

To start off, he has played a few times as a forward but that's not his main position, he was put mostly as a free roaming central attacking midfielder but is equally comfortable playing out wide (where I imagine Wenger would put him given the reports about sanchez as a forward unless he decides to switch the 2) given the fact that he's a great dribbler, a bit pacy, and a general all rounder.

He can also score and assist at impressive rates, he hit 16 goals and 11 assists last season and I think I read somewhere that he averaged like 4.5 shots/goal and can play some killer balls to his teammates.

Finally, another reason I can see him play on the wings is the fact that he's also very good defensively and more than puts his fair share of tackles and whatnot.

So all in all I think that for the reported 15 mill asking price we can get a gem of a player that's only 22 and can easily become a 30mill + player.

Was thinking the other on how I would have killed for kondogbia. The guy's class, a beast and the exact type of player we need. Not hating on Le Coq but I can't see him taking the dm position alone for the season and we're definitely a more attractive proposition than inter milan. My question is this: other than usual suspect schneiderlin( who i believe kondogbia is a better option over) who is a realistic signing we can make for the dm position?

I personally like the look of Krychowiak from Sevilla, no idea however whether a deal is possible or indeed whether we are even interested.

2.) 24 Jun 2015 12:34:57
If arsenal wanted kondogbia they could of got him but I suppose they have someone better in their plans?

3.) 24 Jun 2015 13:05:21
personally I think Schneiderlin is all wrong for arsenal and I would much prefer wanyama.. the great thing about le coq is that he break up play and then sits... and allows the rest to play, but is always there as a shield as he doesn't make those runs forward, if we are looking for someone to cover/compete with him for that role then we need someone who is more interested in the clean sheet rather than making an assist or scoring a goal.
Don't get me wrong I like Schneiderlin but I feel in caz/ramsey/wilshire/ox we have enough players that can play centre and create but also at times remain disciplined.

4.) 24 Jun 2015 13:09:33
It must be that bergooner. We can't have wanted him that badly. Inter must have been best offer on the table and that's saying something

5.) 24 Jun 2015 14:32:41
Hopefully we have a good option lined up and don't end the window with no midfield signing(also preferably signed early to have a full pre season). We don't look like we're going to get the world class CF we need so we should atleast get the our already amazing midfield fully sorted now that the goalkeeper issue is solved.

Also, has anyone here thoroughly watched the sevilla lad and can give some feedback?

6.) 24 Jun 2015 14:35:06
Agreed browgun. I've watched some Monaco games last season and some games he was class , some games very ordinary, but I guess that comes down to his age. If we want to win the title next season we can't hoping on potential of the player but down to a world class consistent performer who delivers all season round

7.) 24 Jun 2015 17:02:48
Krychowiak seems decent enough ( Sevilla lad) if wengers going to stick with coq we defo could do with cover for him. Maybe a good option.

The window has just opened and its early days I can see us completing a couple of significant signings

Highly doubt both vidal and pogba would leave this year. Also, if vidal does leave then definitely not for some of the prices i'm hearing ( 20 million pound range)

Really hope the schneiderlin news isn't true. Would like to see him at the club, maybe not that much as bender but from what I'm seeing he isn't an option.

I'd drop Ramsey. Love the boy but out wide the ox is better, and he's not a dm and he's no cazorla so unfortunately place for him in the line up

Firmino is a player I posted about last year and how much i would have loved to see him in an arsenal shirt if we didn't get sanchez. I think he'll do very well with liverpool, maybe even be excellent, basically i think they'll be selling him for 50 mil in 2-3 years time.

Also, calhanoglu is a diff type of player.

TMW reliable?! They're amazing with interviews and such, especially Juve related. but transfer rumour wise, they're crap.

I would absolutely hate to see Balotelli come here. I'm a HUGE fan of Italian football (Juve are my second team and I love them alot) and other than his well known attitude problems, Balotelli is very over-rated. For startets he's a big game flop, he very rarely scored or played well against the top teams and usually sees his name on the booking list instead of the scoring sheet. His slightly above average goal scoring record is very mis-skewed due to a large portion coming from penalties and a few freekicks as well, and he has a very low chance conversion rate of 13%. His decision making is suspect, preferring to to try and take players on when a simple pass would be much better. He's also not as technically proficient as some would believe with few of his take ons coming off. RANT OVER :P
