Turn the clock back a little over 3 months ago and we were on top of the world. Finally a trophy, time to move forward. Wenger signs a 3 year deal and he's got £100m to spend. Alexis (needed), Debeuchy (needed), Chambers (excellent signing for the future). Totals around £60m less Vela, Fabregas £££ brings it back to £50m at a guess. So there is still £50m to bring in new players?

Giroud gets injured, then I think get the Besiktas game over and players will definitely come in.

Balotelli was £16 - gone to a rival
Remy was £8 - gone to a rival

Ok, so Walcott is back late September but our track record means that will probably be October/November. League will be over, CL will also be over.

You need 3/4 strikers to win the league - what do we currently have?

This was Arsenal's chance to really flex their muscles and compete with the big spenders. Well, we will be competing for 6th or 7th at this rate and possible Europa league after we go out at the group stage providing we don't finish 4th in the group.

One very disgruntled Gooner.

Well, that was torture but we're in the final. With the players coming back there is no excuse not to win. COYG XX

Following my post last week Ed, you predicted a 2-0 win over Villa with Giroud and Walcott doing the business. You also predicted a win in the CL and the signing of 2/3 players. A week later what are your thoughts now?

Personally I think we will just about overcome Fenerbahce, it will be very tight similar to the Udinese game a couple of years ago.

As for players, I think we will end up buying 4/5 similar to 2 years ago.

The club unfortunately seems to not have learned their lessons and we find ourselves being the laughing stock of the football world. I just hope we end up buying the right players (especially a GK, DM and ATT) and not having to clear the books again down the line.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

{Ed022's Note - A week later, I don't think we'l win 2-0 against Villa. Although I was pleased Giroud was on the scoresheet. I still think we will get CL qualification. If we lose over two legs we'l get the lucky dip back in after Fenerbahce are officially booted out. As for players. I think its even more likely we will sign at least 3 players. Especially off the back of a beating from the Villa...}

1.) We need more than 3 players to solve this mess.

I genuinely think we need two more players for each area of the team, ie. GK, DF, MF, FWD.

Our first game is less than 48 hours away. We've had a good clear out but without any signatures it has left us with the bare bones of a squad. We now have an injury list mounting by the day. Whilst we will be able to put out a decent 11 on Saturday, I am more interested to see who is on the bench. Most big teams have a strong bench to change things if needed, what are we going do?

More of a worry is a CCL game next week, which we have to win. Between now and Sept 2nd we have important games that includes the spurs who in my opinion have bought well. (At least they have bought).

Eds what position do us see us being in come Sept 2nd - Players bought, league run and CCL?

{Ed022's Note - I think we will get through against Fenerbahce and qualify for the Champions League "properly". I do see us signing 2-3 players, and I see us beating Villa 2-0 at home on Saturday with Walcott and Giroud doing the business...}

I keep checking the Newsnow site for regular Arsenal updates in the hope that we are close to a deal or something has been agreed to sign somebody. Sadly nothing seems obvious and we are starting to become a laughing stock. Our neighbours have now bought three players and when Bale goes they will have even more to spend and they will. I am proud of the fact that we have continued to be a top 4 side albeit lucky on at least three occasions but with so many players leaving there is almost no cover and unless we spend quickly we will be in the same situation we found ourselves two years ago having to panic buy on the last day, paying silly wages for average players then being stuck with them because no one else will pay their demands. I think this weekend has demonstrated the need for certain positions; GK, CD, DM and ATT. For £70M we can and should buy some real quality. Come on Arsenal get out the cheque book and make some signings even if you have to pay a few quid than you would like before someone else steps in and takes them.

THE CLOCK IS TICKING!!!
