Wenger said in his press conference that we don't look to sign anyone, even going as far as saying Draxler does not interest him. I know Wenger has a reputation for talking rubbish but does anyone else think our position may have gotten to him a bit? I like Wenger but we could really do with a decent Striker/Winger and possibly a RB to concrete our potential as title contenders. Thoughts?

RhymneyGooner

1.) All I would say is this. How many times has arsene said he isn't close to signing players or no one is coming in then bang i.e santi and pod

2.) . and how many times have you heard Wenger saying he's not close to signing players and it turns out he was telling the truth?!

3.) If we don't strengthen we will finish third simples.

4.) Arsene plays his cards very close to his chest and we hardly ever go public untill signings happen

Is it me or does anyone else think they could play better than Jenkinson? The Lad looks so far out of his depth it's unreal, every time he gets the ball I feel he's going to lose it and he constantly runs back towards goal I just don't understand it. Feel free to slate me if you think I'm being harsh

1.) I thought last season, if Sagna leaves, then at least we'll have a half decent replacement in Jenkinson. This season though, and although he has only played a few full games, he looks woeful.

So many mistakes, all in crucial areas. The Napoli away game for instance, he bombed forward. and looked quite menacing at times, then loses the ball so simply. With him so far up the field and no cover in our full back area, we were left desperately short, with other players having to leave their position and cover. You could get away with that against the lesser teams, but with Napoli pushing on so much and with serious intent, I cringed every time he was on the ball.

The Chelsea league cup game aswell. Basically put us out of that with his mis-placed header back to Fabianski.

We could do with some cover come January, maybe with Carl going out on loan to make way.

Then again though, he was playing non-league football just a few years ago, so perhaps we shouldn't be to harsh on the lad. He still has a lot to learn, and i'm sure in a few years time, he'll be one of the best full backs in the league. Just needs to work on his positioning and cut out the daft mistakes.

2.) I agree. I love Jenkinson's attitude and will always support him but I don't think he's up to par at the moment. He will be in two to three years. At the moment, he lacks gametime and in turn, his confidence remains low. I see he panics on the ball and doesn't seem threatening going forward. He's probably afraid to make a mistake. We need to play him more in the Capital One Cup and FA Cup to boost his confidence.

However, at the moment, I hope we get another rightback to fill in Sagna if he leaves. My choices would be Richards, Piszczek, then Abate.

Who else thinks Gary Lineker must hate talking us up on MOTD every week? Though in fairness he is the only one!

RhymneyGooner

1.) I think Liniker is embarrassed my his panels refusal to admit they might have got it wrong.
Danny Murphy is afraid to brake ranks from shearer and Hanson and only Lawrenson and Savage have the bottle to defy the powers that be and say Arsenal have made them change their opinion.
Shame because the show is fantastic British institution which Liniker does proud.

For the people who keep saying we haven't played the top teams yet, this is how I see it:

Man Utd - Appalling start to this season and I don't think that will change in the 2 or 3 league games before we play them, their defence is in tatters. Moyes is not Ferguson and as much as the pundits don't like to say it Fergie won that title last year far too many players on the wrong side of 30 and a manager who has done well in the league but yoyo'd Everton up and down the EPL table.

Man City - Looked ok this season have only won 1 away game and I think their best game was against Utd who made them look V.Good. I think they are very beatable especially if a team scores against them first, plus we already beat them 3 - 0/1 (Can't remember the exact score) at the beginning of August.

Chelsea - Biggest threat to ANY of the top sides but Mourinho hasn't got any idea how to manage an attacking team. Yes they can beat anyone but they don't seem to play as a team like they have in seasons past.

Liverpool - Why people call them a top side is kinda shambolic but hey same could be said about us. Been sliding since Suarez came back I think they have just reverted back to last season where Suarez just seems to be at the heart of everything and players who were contributing a lot seem to have slacked off last few games. I could be wrong but we will see.

My point being is we have the strongest core squad of any of the top teams from Manager to Players, in effect this season we only signed 1 New first team regular Ozil as Flamini already understands our club and it's ways.

The Arsenal team itself is not playing to it's full potential yet and little tweaks will be made with a few strong players to come back. I think we will beat all of the teams mentioned except for maybe Chelsea and if Man City suddenly spring to life, but as everyone can see they are both playing like teams of Individuals whereas we seem to be moving as one cohesive unit.

I'm pretty sure Ozil's preferred position is left wing perhaps Wenger can use him and Santi in a roaming role where they alternate wing to centre. On to the actual question I think Wenger should be offered a new contract, it's always been said it was a long term plan and that we would be strong over the coming windows. Most of the big money players such as cavani, falcao and bale have already moved now leaving the markets prices a little lower next season (hopefully) this will prompt Wenger to hopefully sign a few names, and if there's one thing wenger can spot its talent. he's had a few bad calls but an equal or greater amount of good ones even players who didn't do well in the prem have gone on and done well in other leagues.

Sorry Mr. GOONER. M but I'm a tad offended by your Swansea comment. They are my second club if you like. They are nowhere near to relegation and coming from the bottom leagues to the prem in pretty much year in year out promotions plus with 1 or 2 minor cups and now the league cup. They have a very got chance of making top 6 I believe and having a major run in Europe so to say they haven't got a winning mentality is personic, you sure you know football? Or do you just repeat what everyone else says? Btw I did agree with your post until that absurd comment.

And I've done my knee ligaments previously not sure which it was a while ago but that was 6 - 8 weeks recovery.

Just looked it up its either a grade I or II tear which is minor so 6 - 8 weeks should be around enough time to heal and about 8 - 10 weeks for full match fitness. which isn't too bad.

Well said mate. To be honest to back Wenger as vehemently as you do takes some guts at this point in time and like you I still believe he can do a job for us. I believe the fault is with the board and Gazidis. How can Wenger run, coach/manage and scout players for Arsenal. It's too much for one man to get results and nobody else seems to do anything at least Wengers there in the face of it all unlike the others especially that character Silent Stan, Non-existent Stan more like. Although I do believe Wenger should be far more transparent than he is about things, he obviously makes excuses about transfers to hide something and it can't seriously be that there's no talent out there.

I think it could be more to the point that we don't have anyone from midfield on who can provide a few 'SIT DOWN!' tackles. If we had this other teams would think twice before smashing into out smaller more creative players.

Though I have often wondered about why we get so many injuries in the last few years. Doesn't make sense to have as many as we do.
