I posted yesterday about Red Cards. Too many unnecessary red cards ruin big games!
The spectacle and the occasion is just spoilt for everyone.
I do feel for the players but mainly I feel for the fans - who just want to see a fair game of football 11 vs 11.

Yes, by the letter of the law Szcze's offence was a Red. But this rule is wrong. It doesn't make sense. He denied Robben a goalscoring opportunity which was then restored via the award of a penalty. Szcze's foul wasn't deliberate or violent therefore a yellow card, a penalty and let's all get on with the game like adults, surely?

But no. the rules have gone mad. It hasn't always been this way has it? I'm youngish so do know what the rules were like through the 70's and 80's early 90's? Would a keeper have been sent off for this? Would Demichelis have seen red on Tuesday.

It's two fantastic Champions league ties between four great footballing teams just p****d on and undermind by the rules - not the refs so much - just the rules, they should be reviewed.

It this level it completely changes the everything about the game. It actually makes it boring and almost void in a sense. It's too harsh a punishment in cases like this and it's too big an advantage to be given for what is, after all, just a foul.

If it's cynical and blatant cheating. Red. If it's violent. Red. If it's just a foul then free kick/peno/ maybe a yellow depending on what the ref thinks. They need to stop acting like robots and be told to use some common sense and their own discretion - this would improve things no end and then the BEST refs (the fairest and the ones who understand the game) would come to the fore and end up reefing the big matches. They need to be allowed some leeway by the powers that be to use common sense and not feel pressured to get it exactly to the letter of the rulebook.

I watched the game at home on TV last night but had I been down at the Emirates (as I very nearly was) I'd have felt cheated and let down. I want to watch free flowing fair football not a training session for Bayern. Ridiculous. And then to have to listen superslickredknapp on Sky talking about how amazing Gotze and Kroos are compared to Wilshire because they made a million passes. Get a grip mate. They had an extra man. Of course the game was going to go that way. (Not taking anything away from the two German lads as players, because I think they are both class acts but let's judge them in a proper 11 vs 11 game) Oh I forgot we can't because it's rare we get one in the Champs League these days. pathetic. it really is.

Review the rule.

On a separate point
OZIL - we all know he is class. He needs confidence and really man managing now by Wenger - he also needs Ramsay back and pace running in behind for him to supply. Hope he has the character to pick himself up and get going properly wether it be this season or next because if he does he has all of the technical stuff and talent in abundance. Also, he needs penalty practice!

Interested to hear peoples opinions on the red cards and thanks for all the responses yesterday guys, seems like a lot of people feel a similar way.

Cheers,

Leegun!

Great post again Leegun and I'm certain that some refs have been man enough to make decisions before that have gone against what they call the letter of the law.

I didn't agree with Redknapp but we'll never know what will have happened if Szczesny hadn't clipped him.

I also understand that Kroos is a quality player but yes Jamie do me a favour, we are a quality passing side and could have done the same to them.

Just like the City game another sending off killed the game effectivly as a contest and it was just a case of weather we could just hold out for a 1-0 Loss rather than 2-0, to give us a small chance in 2nd leg.

Unless it a proper red card type foul The penalty and yellow card is puishment enough in my book. The side is regaining the clear goal scoring chance by having the penalty.

Outside the box if its a genuine attempt at getting the ball like the and just misstimed like the City defender then a red card is unfair.

If it proper cyncial like a blatent pull back or coming through the back of the player then yes red.

Good to hear your opinions guys. Thanks Jenny, I'm glad you agree about Redknapp spouting pointless stats about the game. It looked like we were going toe to toe with them before the Red. Such a shame. Hopefullt we can in Munich. win/lose or draw.
