This isn't really Arsenal related but I wanted to hear your thoughts and views on this: What on earth is going wrong with Dortmund?

I really cannot comprehend how a squad with that much quality is losing so many games and is bottom of the bundesliga. 2/3 years ago they were winning titles and came runners up in the champions league.

Can anyone shed some light on why they are doing so poor domestically? You don't win 4 games out of 19 purely through bad luck. Is it injuries, players, management or what else?

Also, if they did get relegated, which isn't looking too unlikely, would all their players leave? Or would they stay like when Juventus got relegated in 2006/07? Would Klopp stay or if he left would he still be able to walk into a job at one of the top European teams?

Eds, any answers or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Subotic, Gundogan, Mkhitaryan, Sahin and Kagawa have all failed to reach the levels of form they have showed in seasons passed, the latter two since what you might call failed moves away from the club. Gundogan had that career threatening back injury and was awesome in their midfield prior to that.

Aubameyang and Immobile have no where near replaced Goetze and Lewandowski, a lot was expected of Mkhitaryan too.

Watching them last night it was hard to believe they will get out of this mess, Reus will no doubt be thinking of where he is going next but again looks nothing like the player he was.

They are going to need one of those games, similar to us against City, where it clicks and they get back together and on a role.

To a degree BR at Liverpool lost his way somewhat this season after the loss of Saurez but they are now back on track, how Klopp achieves it, he must be wondering himself. Maybe he just needs to move on. Would be a shame because they are such a fantastic club with an awesome fan base.

I've little doubt Klopp would still be a big attraction else where as a manager if he did become available. Including here.

I think it shows the gulf in quality from the Bundesliga to the Premier League too because without Dortmund to challenge and with their Financial muscle the league will be a perpetual one horse race.

That in itself is a little crazy when you think Germany are the World Champions.

All I know is Had it been Arsenal, we would be going on about replacing the manager because obviously that's the problem. Not the same from us for other clubs. hmm.

Your right about the manager thing - the fans would be baying for blood if we played that badly- strangely a load of the 'bayers' would be baying for Wenger to be replaced by Klopp.

Funny old game innit?

My thoughts are,

What Red Dog said 😏

Dortmund are in a strange place. 90percent of the players would be snapped up. klopp would also get another big job.

hes over stayed his welcome tho. just like redknapp at qpr. there's a good time to bow out. the emergence of bayern was there for all to see

Red Dog, excellent points. Mykatarian and Immobile are no where near the same class as Goetze and Lewandowski. But they massively strenghtened in terms of depth with players like Papadopolus, Ginter, Sahin, Kagawa, Augbumeyang and Ramos. I remember last year Injuries were their big problem. But that doesn't seem to be the case this year.

My take on it is quite simple.

in the EPL we have a top heavy 7 and then there's the rest. in la liga there is a top 2 now possibly a top 3.

In germany however it is Bayern and then there is 17 other teams.

dortmund not only overachieved they kept their core players healthy and the motivation to beat bayern was the driving factor, the underdogs vs the world.

but since their injurys and if i'm not mistaken within the first 5 games a 12 point lead the league and season was over, compound their injuries and the team was doomed to mid table. their relegation form is only because of their injuries and other teams buying smart in the summer like wolfsburg with gustavo and de bruyne and now schurrle over each summer.

while wolfsburg is trying to build and arsenal like team to take on bayern with a superstar every year, dortmund had the superstars just unable to hold them from departing to bayern. wages seem to be more or less similar across the other teams besides bayern.

id say give it 3 years if wolfsburg start winning bayern start buying their best and wolfsburg will be in relegation in 5 years.

To be fair looking at their league it's so tight at the bottom if they get a couple of wins, which I am sure they will do, they will jump to mid table. Their predicament this year is interesting though. Over the last couple of years I have heard nothing but praise for them, and most importantly over the cheap cost of tickets to watch them, with some reports that tickets start from under 15 euros? In fact I have read that you now see many English fans at their ground, with the cost of the ticket plus a cheap Ryanair flight to Dortmund being good value vs watching a premiership game. However perhaps that's the rub, in that if Dortmund raised their ticket prices a bit then they might be able to keep their best players instead of being a feeder club to Bayern, with two of their best players in recent years leaving on a free.

They aren't a feeder club, its just Bayern Munich being persons and taking their best players for the sake of it. If they were a feeder club then Reus, Hummels and Gundogan would of been gone a long time ago.

I get thag their players are underperforming, but I cannot comprehend how they can underperform to the extent where the are bottom of the league, I mean that's just mad. Bundesliga is tough, but not as competitive as the premierleague. The comparison is us being 20th in the EPL. Even with our players, management, misfortune ot whatever. The odds of that are astronomical. I still don't get how its happend to Dortmund,
