Does anyone else think that we should try and get Jose Luis Gaya as our left back for years to come?

The guy looks class, and he and Bellerin could be the left and right back for Spain for years to come possibly.

I think he would be a good addition and I think if he is available we should look to try and get him.

Eds, do you know if he is available and if anyone has shown an interest such as us?

Also, my two pennies worth on the Le Coq discussion that has been going on for a few days.

Yes, he was magnificent for us when he came back. He earned the right to keep his place and play last season, and he played.

This season going forward, we need to definitely buy another DM as we are exposed if Le Coq is injured, but considering the amount of other very talented players who are not guaranteed first team action last season, Wilshire, Ramsey, then every player should be "bringing their A game" each week to fight to get on the team sheet for each game.

Adding a very good DM either makes Le Coq improve (and I think there is more to come) or a better player taking his spot until he deposes them. Competition brings the best out of the best, and shows the weaknesses of the weak.

Carvalho, although unknown in PL having never played here, looks a very good player. He is strong, mobile, has good feet, can play a pass, defensively minded but can link play to. He plays in a similar mould to, dare I say it, Yaya, and he cane play CB. Why would we not be interested. He or either of the Bender Bros (my preference would be Lars) would be welcome additions in my eyes.

If we can get Benzema or Lacazette (yes please Arsene, to Lacazette the wing wizard who looks like a striker to me)then I think we can go into any game with a pretty close first 11 to any team in the league no matter who they buy).

On a slightly different note, I am really looking forward to seeing Gabriel play this season, if he has got on top of the language, as he looks like a defensive warrior. He and Kos could be a real pairing if they click.

Hope everyone is well. Love you all. Have a good day.

Can't wait for your agreeing or disagreeing comments to my thoughts about.

Let the banter begin.

P.S. Stoner. Love seeing you back, love seeing your comments. Do you think, as I do, we are close to a return to the days of beautiful football AND beautiful results like 2004?

J

{Ed002's Note - Gaya was first choice for Chelsea but is not available.}

Hi Jin mate, personally I'd sign cover for Le Coq but not someone who will block his path and the chance he's earned, if we sign Carvalho at £30 million he's not going to be cover at that money or with his ability and growing reputation he's going to be given and demand first choice billing.
This time last year I'd have said pay what it takes to get Carvalho Bender or who ever because our need was massive and if we had and Le Coq emerged as cover happy days but things haven't panned out that way and Le Coq has proved himself worthy of our trust in the season ahead at least and hopefully will extend that trust further still the more he plays.
Carvalho simply will not be joining us as anything other than our number 1_DM in my opinion mate.

Thanks for clearing that up ED002. I can understand why Chelsea wanted him. I think he is going to be very very good, to be honest, he already seems very good.

G62.

I completely understand your view, but I think there will be teams and times where we could and possibly should play both.

It seems a strange position to be in, without question, but he has not played a full season at the pace of the PL and playing for us with our 100% energy style, and I think it is a big step up to do it week in week out.

To be honest, it is the first time in some time that Arsene has such a conundrum to concern himself with in the centre of midfield defensively.

Hopefully he will make the right decision.

Time will tell.

Hope your day has started well.

The idea of having and starting both is appealing but who makes way to slow that :-) its a problem mate but we've had worse ones.
The thing that I see as our most likely downfall next season is rotation to keep all happy which I fear is going to happen if we sign a DM or not and I'm personally a big fan of playing your best 11 in every PL and CL game without fail and resting players in domestic cup games only.

Hey J,

It's been good to see you back too mate, I'm feeling genuinely positive about next season and little reason not to be.

Coquelin has been quality in that role and seems to have all the attributes to make the position his. Whilst I like Arteta he was our DM during the games against Chelsea, City and Liverpool where we fell apart. It's just not the right position for him so agree totally we need another.

Javi Martinez was once linked to us as was Lars Bender, Carvalho with a €37 million buy out clause is what seems to be most clubs concern when thinking of buying him. I really want to see another DM brought in, in the same mould, Wanyama being another option. It's a headache for Arsene and he has to get it right.

Gabriel I'm looking forward to seeing alongside Koscielny but read an article on the Arsenal web page where Szczesny voted him as having the worst banter as after 6 months he could still only say a few words in English so hope he gets that sorted.

Would love to see Lacazette, Sanchez and Walcott interchanging up front. ;-)

Lacezette, Walcott and Sanchez

or

Aubameyang, Walcott and Sanchez.

Whichever one, we would have the fastest front line that exists in football, at least in the PL.

I can dream!

Would be nice for either to become a reality though Stoner.

Isn't it nice to be able to be positive without seemingly being told that "one is detached from reality" as we used to be slated for when posting positivity in previous years Stoner!

It seems to have taken a long long time to get to feeling this good about the team, the change Sanchez and Coquelin have brought, the young guys starting to come of age with Ozil getting better and Cazorla showing what he can really do.

Aubameyang hasn't had a great time at Dortmund having been hailed as the next big thing so he does concern me but guess the same could be said of Lacazette if he turned up and didn't do the business.

I get the feeling Wenger knows who he wants for where but may well be playing his usual waiting game.

It's all good J and I can't wait for the Chelsea game, albeit only the Community Shield.

Wouldn't it be nice to beat them to the first trophy of the season!

Get the season off to a bang!

I agree with everything you have said.

They do say great minds think alike .........

Ha ha, and there was me thinking I was losing mine.

I know many fans, mostly opposing, loved to jump on the 9 year bandwagon and usually blame Wenger but there is only so much you can achieve and he did bloody well.

Still have every faith he can do it again, the money is there and he is putting together a great looking squad with a great looking style of play.

It won't be easy but I'm certain we'll be in it until the end. Be nice for Cech to pick up his 1st medal of his Arsenal career against them too. ;-)
