"Of course, there is pressure to keep up with them. All of them have spent more money but only one can win the title, " he said.

"It's not just the consequence of the money they spend in how successful you are. That is why you have to keep your nerve and not buy just because the others buy - but buy because you have found a player that can really give you a plus.

"It is difficult because there's more money in football, more clubs with big resources, and less players available.

"The funds are there more than the players who could strengthen the squad. That is a big problem.

"People know that you have the resources and they want you to buy players from clubs who do not need your resources, and who are not necessarily prepared to sell."

Thoughts people?

It would be interesting to know if AW has bid for any of the top players that have changed clubs already or does he just have tunnel vision on Benzema.

On a serious note Derby of all the players that have moved so far who do you see as improvements over specific players in our team.

For me none of the potential big movers have gone anywhere yet, such as Pogba, Bale, Higuian, Benzema, Reus, Gotze, Lewandowski, Aubeyemang, Cavani, Ibrahimovich, Lacazette, Carvalho, Javi Martinez and more.

I've yet to be envious of any move up to now.

On the face of it sounds quite sensible from a man who feels he has an already excellent squad, but you know as much as me Arsene doesn't always say what he really thinks.
He's admitted he has said in the past he felt we had enough to challenge when he didn't really believe it himself, he has funds which I'm sure he will use if he can the players he wants but rightly or wrongly he won't buy to keep people happy or off his back.
Not long to wait now one way or the other

Stoner you are spot on-none of the "top" players have gone anywhere yet, and probably not likely to either.
We keep hearing that Benzema and or Cavani are flying in for Medicals but in my opinion, the only Medicals that SHOULD be taking place are on the half-wit "reporters" who put out these stories in the first place as they are obviously a sandwich short of a picnic.
Are we honestly supposed to believe that when a player movement is on the cards, the first people they inform are Metro and some 2nd rate hack in Italy?

I'd say that missing out on Kondogbia was a real shame

Your right stoner. But there is one transfer that would get into our side and its ottomendi. But in all reality when you spend what other clubs have spent to only think that one of them signings would walk into your side then you have saved yourself a lot of coin. And to be honest only have the list above of big names would improve arsenal

we didn't miss out on kondogbia we didn't even try for him :( id of loved him

id of taken vidal if it meant him or no dm

the bender brothers id take. krychowaik for 22mill is a no brainer. i'm a wanyamma fan he gets a lot of stick i don't know why

at a push a deal for Illarramendi who will go for a 3rd of the fee they played. lucas silva is also available on loan they say.

the players are out there of course they are.

I did think of Kondogbia but he is listed as a CM more than a DM and we're told Wengers preferred option is Carvalho who is really starting to look good.

It's always a difficult call, I used to like Wanyama but visited a relative and went to the Saints vs Everton game and watching him up close is a whole different story. I know it's one game but not worth the punt for me.

On a side note how the hell Tom Cleverley has ever managed to get a contract at any club is beyond me.

I also thought of Otamendi Brow but I'm still convinced we have a potentially great pairing in Koscielny and Gabriel once we get them on the pitch together.

{Ed025's Note - i was clevs biggest critic stoner, but to be fair to the guy he has played very well since being at goodison, so fair play to him mate..

We all know there are players out there Derby and you just seem to love reeling off a list of players you like.

Why is illamarendi not in the Madrid team, whose place does Vidal take, when was the last time you saw or heard of either of the Bender brothers setting the world alight.

There is little rhyme or reason to half the stuff you say mate just this constant wish list with little thought fella and I'm not meaning to offend.

Like I said none of the big players are or have moved and your just talking about the lesser lights or those we don't need or won't improve. :-)

I actually think if you had your way we would have a brand spanking new starting 11 plus subs. ;-) oh and the manager! Lol.

Eds,

I've never been a fan of Cleverley so watched him specifically to see if I'd been wrong as I did Wanyama and even in that 3 nil win Cleverley was woeful, losing possession, bad passing, he just seems to let players run away from him as he did again against City on Sunday.

He had one effort against the Saints, pretty much a free shot at goal and spooned it a mile wide from well inside the box with so much time.

He and Barry both looked poor to be honest and it changed my opinion of Wanyama who was even lazy at times, again watching the game pass him by.

{Ed025's Note - i suppose people see the game differently stoner, most everton fans were on his case from the start but going by the posts he seems to be a decent recruit, maybe though he came with such low expectations that even an average display was greeted with surprise mate..i suppose we will have to wait and see with this one..

stoner why was pedro not in the barca team. why was coutinho let go by inter milan for peanuts. why was ozil let go. sanchez let go. why was cesc allowed to join chelsea.

was matic regarded as world class and wanted by every club before he rejoined chelsea? why was morata allowed to join madrid.

would you not of taken greizzman last year when they wanted to keep carlos vela?

the bender brothers are excellent players mate no doubt about it.

if i had my way we would challange and usmanov would be our owner not silent stan

Derby,

You want to add players that IMPROVE your side, it is no good simply running off lists of players, I'd have Cazorla over Coutinho all day long, let alone Ozil.

Had you ever honestly heard of Krychowiak before ed02 mentioned him.

Sanchez was not in the Barca team for obvious reasons which enabled us to buy him, the same went for Pedro and Chelsea. We have Chamberlain and Walcott, why do we want Pedro.

Greizmann instead of who?

Chelsea sold Matic and brought him back again, you are talking about the passed.

We are in the here and now, Wenger is not going to start buying players because we like them or because they are on the 300.

Like I said none of the best players have moved yet.

You're right ed025,

We all look at it differently and I only watched him for the one game close up but even the people around us were saying how bad he was. It was almost a bit like waiting to see what he cocked up next.

I don't have a downer on Everton by the way ed, great club and hope they do well. Just not against us.

I think the biggest thing with Cleverley is that he's been so over hyped that it's almost impossible for him to relax into a game.

Maybe like you say time will change that.
