Ed14 and myself was talking on live chat last week about martinelli and how he's gone off the boil the last good few games. Do we stick with him or go with Trossard in the next game.

{Ed014's Note - I’m going to say stick with him for the first half and see how he goes.

He’s a nightmare for defenders when he’s on it.

I agree with Ed, he has just signed his new contract, his first home game since, and hopefully the fans in the stadium give him a great reception and he can react in the right way and put in a performance close to what he was producing at the start of the season.

On this occasion I’m start him on the bench. He has to learn to manage himself and clearly they see him as the long term option with contract extension.

As I’ve said before he wouldn’t last the season as he burns himself out too quickly in games. However, I’ve noticed he as lasted out a few games before he went off boil.

Saka didn’t get a proper cover, despite all the knocks he’s getting, plus Jesus can naturally play that side. (Shows we could have used another striker, but that’s another story) . So I think there’s concern he needs working on.

I heard the same things being said of Saka at the start of the season, the better you perform the more attention the opposition pay you in their prematch plans, while teams are focused on limiting the effect Saka and Martinelli have on a game it provides lots of room and opportunity for the other 8 outfield players to exploit to the teams advantage ?.

He hasn't been as impressive since the world cup, but I do wonder if that has more to do with Jesus's absence. Stick with him, Trossard has done nothing to steal his spot yet.

I saw some stats recently showing how isolated Gabi Haa been recently because Zinchenko drifts inside a lot, whereas Tierney bombs down the left and engages with Gabi a lot more. Perhaps Tierney/ Gabi and Zinny/ Trossard?

I think they're doubling up on him now. although i love the zinny inverting into midfield feel like its leaving martinelli isolated at times. Think xhaka needs to help him out a bit maybe. I think its also time for tomi to start at rb. Saka is struggling a bit too. in my humble opinion.

I think G. Jesus has a big influence on Martinelle game. As he drift to his side and alow him to have more space, I can't fault his game it's just the circumstances he's facing in the game now is different, he's having to do a lot of work with less support especially when the opposition team start doubling up players on him and saka.
Personally, I have confidence in him and whenever he's with the ball I feel he can create something.
