I don't see why anyone should be 'bashed' for wanting to leave one job to go to a better well paid job with potentially better prospects, his life and his career he can do what he likes with it surely.

One of the down sides with the Internet is that's it's given everyone a voice, but free porn too so not all bad

i have a question can the emirates be expanded? i don't understand why we built an only 60000 capacity stadium we should have aimed for at least 90000 like the nou camp i can't imagine what financial advantage that would have given us over our rivals.even the spuds now want to built a 60000 seater stadium.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - (1) The cost would be prohibitive. (2) There is insufficient space and logically support to support another stadium of that size in North London. (3) You had best try to avoid thoughts about finances.}

11 Jul 2015 20:00:02
Yes, is the answer. The stadium was built with the possibility of building another tier, subject to planning consent. From memory the capacity would rise to 80,000. As for filling it, the current stadium is sold out for virtually every home match and we have a long waiting list for season tickets.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 20:32:25
You also have to factor in the travel network.

Getting 90,000 people to and from Emirates on match day would be a logistical nightmare, the Council would refuse planning permission, hence the manageable 60,000 capacity.

Perhaps the new spurs stadium could have giant screens at one end and showing all our games simultaneously as the spurs games are taking place thus allowing more Arsenal fans to watch our games together and at the same time save 70% of the stadium going to waste each week, it would make a lot of sense

Hi ed, do you think that arsenal will make an offer for Lacazette from Lyon, his coach said they're is a possibility he could leave.

Is there any truth to the rumours that El Shawaary is off to Monaco?

11 Jul 2015 13:14:40
Following on from the stadium post below, before contruction on the Emirates started, I contacted the club and suggested the ground should have one uninterrupted end from the pitch to the back. Clearly they didn't listen and opted for money over atmosphere but it's interesting to learn the ground was built with foundations for additional tiers and possible future modification.

Personally, I'd love to see the North Bank as a single tier but at the very least I'd support the introduction of safe standing in North Bank lower. It wouldn't guarantee an electric atmosphere against the likes of Hull (sorry Hull) but it would certainly improve the atmosphere generally and the place would be a cauldron against the top sides.

I know safe standing has been discussed at the top level and there are obvious sensitivities around it, but there is also plenty of support. Does anyone (Eds?) have any information on where things currently stand (!) or are likely to go?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2015 15:33:00
Didn't they introduce safe standing in Scotland a little while ago?
Obviously regulations need to be very strictly followed and safety must always always come before anything else but safe standing would certainly go a long way to improving the atmosphere at the Emirates.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 16:57:23
How would standing work in conjunction with seating next to it? In other words would you have to create such a wide barrier between the two, to ensure the seated fans sited next to the standing area could still see the whole pitch, that the capacity would be the same or lower than current?

It would be in every top clubs interest to form a pack not to touch Raheem Stirling, city should immediately withdraw their interest and and a slush fund should be formed to allow Liverpool to pay his existing wages as a reserve team sub for the remainder of his existing contract by which time he will be lucky if Leyton Oreint Brentford Millwall or spurs have any interest in him.
Jimmy Hill quite rightly helped the players unite to end the unfair maximum wage all those years ago but we've now gone full circle and its time for the clubs to return the compliment and make sure the likes of Stirling don't get what they want.
The tail can't be allowed to continue wagging the dog unchallenged much longer without contracts becoming a joke.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im with you G62 mate..

11 Jul 2015 10:45:13
G62 I hope city pay the 50 million for him . It's a complete joke and for Liverpool to knock back the 40 million is a joke. It's only because they presume that city will pay more. City's transfer policy is a joke... delph ffs oh happy days if city don't buy someone that might actually improve them.

So just chelsea to beat still

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 11:06:03
Brow its not about how much Liverpool get or city pay mate its about Stirling and his agent showing yet again how little a contract is worth and how at the moment 99% of the power is firmly in the players hands regardless of how recently they signed a contract or for how long.
If a player signs a 5 year contract and things go well in season 1 he's more or less free to go if he chooses to but if he's a £100,000 a week flop he can sit back and pick his £25 million over the length of the contract and the club is bound to honour every penny.
A contract needs to go back to being a two way contract that can only be broken if both parties agree to dissolve it and to make that happen clubs need to repesct each other again and talk only to other clubs about players moving not players and agents first.
If clubs did only deal with each other the agent would be worthless.

Totally agree in principle with you G62. It's just thankfully not our player and another title rival is going to spend daft money . If you ask me city and sterling deserve each other! And city wonder why their players are so lack lustre at times. It's the type of soulless saps that join city. No one joins them for prestige because they have none just money money money. I say let them crack on mate

Brendon Rodgers is the real issue with sterling

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 15:18:32
I agree about Sterling and City. As a United fan I can't believe City's policy right now, it is clearly not thought through. £50M for Sterling is a joke but I really hope they do pay up as Brenda will waste all the money. Shame to see you writing us off so readily though.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 16:20:21
AJH serious question mate but as you stand do you expect a real proper title challenge from utd?
A lot of holes that still need filling and even if De Gea was to stay could he really do the same again for you as last year? He was unbelievably brilliant last season and I'd say was probably worth 25 to 30 points more than you would have got with only a decent keeper, he did cover up a lot of awful performances from your team mate.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 16:39:12
Just think with the amount of people it will take a season to find your best team and getting them playing together the title next year is to much too soon imo that's all

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 16:43:16
If I'm honest I think we will compete but the title may be a stretch too far, primarily because of all the new faces. Shaw (assuming he is fit and healthy) will be like a new signing, we have Italy's RB and are clearly looking for a top quality CB. That means 3 of the back 4 will be new. However, Depay is a quality player and despite people pointing our Schweinsteigers age, he is Germany's captain and will have a real impact for us. Our page or rife with rumours of a major deal but even if it happens, we are looking at probably 4 or 5 new players on the 1st team which is too many to hit the ground running.

If I'm honest, after the Moyes year we just want to progress, be competitive next year and then push on the year after. The general consensus on our page is that if you make a couple of top quality signings you will give Chelsea a run for their money next year.

11 Jul 2015 17:32:32

Evening malaga.

I've told Chris he's to stay away from you lot as you keeping being mean and ganging up on him :-)

AJH that's a pretty fair assessment of where both United and Arsenal are at IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 19:21:42
I'd say that's a fair post that AJH mate Bastian is an excellent signing and at 30 he has a lot left in the tank yet I personally think 4th maybe 3rd (city dependant) is a realistic aim for the season ahead and then reevaluate LVG next summer, I have a feeling he's the man to turn the ship around and get rid of the dead wood but I'm not sure he's the man to sail our choppy waters in the premier league and finish top of the pile.

Hi Honey mate tell CTR if he can't bring himself to post on here for a bit it will be good to meet up when we play each other and for those of us who can't get tickets watch the game together in a local pub.
What's the chances of you being able to make it mate? Be nice if we can make it a two leg meet up actually home and away that would be brilliant.

Hi ed002,any latest transfer Arsenal rumours?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has happened overnight Josh.}

11 Jul 2015 05:48:38
It's interesting that Wenger is now stating that he wants to consider making signings after the injury situation is taken into account. He quite rightly states that last season we had several key players out for long periods. If you look at the current squad, it is very full with quality players and it can only be argued that we need to sign one, maybe two players.
We have 4 keepers. 9 defenders (if you include Jenkinson). We have lots of options in midfield and attack. The places we could improve are clearly in the defensive midfield role, where Coquelin is the sole option. Arteta and Flaimini are simply not good enough. However, we have extended Arteta's deal, so he looks likely to stay. Flamini has to go. People are arguing that we need a striker, but we already have; Giroud, Welbeck, Sanchez, Walcott and Akpom.
I believe Wenger is waiting to see what happens in respect of Walcott's contract negotiations & Cazorla's rumoured desire to return to Spain.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2015 07:58:34
We have 4 strikers, none of them exceptional (no offense intended). I think we need an upgrade upfront as well.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 23:24:59
Ed, this may be a difficult question to answer, but do you see Wenger selling Wilshere, Ramsey, Coq, or Ox in the next couple years? Surely, we can't have these 4 soon-to-be world class players all rotating for 2 positions. Thanks

(If they stay, it would seem like we would have to change formations. No?)

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - four for two positions is exactly what a manager wants. If one goes, it will simply be because they want to go, or they are not progressing as Wenger likes.}

Lol just seen someone's season ticket waiting list certificate and he has position 69, 377 on the list

Putting that in context, when I joined the list I got position number 22,000 and something and I had to wait 10 years which included the stadium move and increase in numbers available

Don't think this guy is going to see his season ticket in the next 30 years in that basis!

Explains why prices won't go down though with a limited supply and demand like that!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2015 05:57:12
I wonder if the club will consider extending the stadium? I seem to recall that the foundations were made to build an additional tier.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 07:03:11
The capacity is 60k as that was the maximum allowed due to the local transport infrastructure.

I've not checked my position on the waiting list recently, but I got on it in about 2008 and I was 47000; last time I checked I was 23000.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 07:52:34
Sorry forgot to mention, this guys certificate was issued in April 2015

If they're still charging the £15 to join the list they're sitting on nearly a million pounds of deposits lol

Ok they get refunded but new joiners will probably offset that lol depending how they use the money the interest is a nice little earner lol

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 12:48:06
I doubt there will be many refunds because most people will renew and inflation will eat away that debt so it's free money for the club to use now.

It's good to see that our waiting list puts Spurs' in the shadow too!

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 23:29:54
True Barn but with inflation at its current level it's going to take a long time to eat into that amount of money and if it did they can always change the sub from £15 to £20 as you only get it back when you buy your first season ticket so refunds aren't an issue

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 23:36:58
Gardiola has told Bayern he isn't interested in Theo as a replacement for the ageing Ribery and Robben and I can totally see where he's coming from because on the wing Theo's consistency levels have more in common with Stuart Downing and Ashley Young, OK he's better than them but he's a very long way from ever being in the Robben and Ribery league.
I think Pep and many others might need to reevaluate their opinion of Walcott next May if he's given an extended run down the middle where I genuinely believe he might well realise every bit of his early potential.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2015 12:02:59
Gunner while respect your opinion of theo, my opinion is he isn't strong enough, clever enough or good enough in the air to be a striker. Yes now and then when he can utilise his pace or exploit some oopposition weakness, but he's not got the tools to be a regular striker.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 18:08:51
