Just read a link that was quoting RvPi$$ie saying "Falcao must fight for a place. ". I didn't have to click the link to know what he must have been talking about. The treatment table obviously.
I always thought that when LvG spoke of implementing his own unique philosophy he was speaking about football tactics. I didn't realize til after the TW closed, that his philosophy wasn't unique at all. In fact he if anything just copied the philosophy of their cross town rivals Chitty which is mercenary fishing as I like to call it. Just dangle shed loads of money and pray for a bite.

I wasn't sure how I felt about signing Danny Welbeck at first but after reading on forums and Twitter just how upset and annoyed some of the Uknitted fans were, and watching some you tube compilations, I'm excited to see him play for us. I hope he French kisses the badge when he scores against his old team the next time we play the mancs.

*the preceding comments were in no way meant to be offensive, it was just banter.

I'm liking Danny more and more each day.

2.) 03 Sep 2014 23:56:26
Yep and i'm sure u were one on here demanding wenger spend no money this window om these so called mercenaries mate. I mean u wouldn't want a falcao Di maria saurez or ronaldo at your club winning u titles, ure obviously more than happy with SaNOgoal.

only banter as u say mate ;-)

3.) 04 Sep 2014 03:08:41
Spot on CTR.
I'd have loved any of those "mercenaries" thanks. And, if I only had Jones or Smalling to fill in at the back and I was desperately trying to sign a rivals backup centre half to start for us, I'd be signing defensive "mercenaries" like Benatia or even Manolas, long before I signed a striker just back from a serious knee injury, when I already have said attacking "mercenaries". But what do I know, all I can do is banter and rant from my cave in Kakadu.

4.) 04 Sep 2014 06:01:48
You have to love the Mancs two new signings and suddenly they have the Galacticos.

Saurez, Messi, Neymar for Barca value close to £250 million.

Bale, Ronaldo, and James for Madrid value close to £250 million.

Followed by Falcao, Di Maria, Dobin Van Twinkletits and a great big Jacket Potato for United valued at £130 million and a twix.

Next they'll be saying they're going to win the league, no wait hang on, they already have.

Maybe they could call their defence the Invisibles!

5.) Lol Chris, I rarely post anymore but I knew this one would reel you in. I thought Sydney! would of dropped his two cents too but oh well, maybe next time. I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit envious over DiMaria. Up until a couple of weeks ago, he was one of my favorite players.
I was actually a little impressed with the DiMaria and Falcao signings, I mean it definitely reeked of desperation over paying for them, but the club had to do what they had to do to get the deals done so congrats and good luck this season. Hope you finish in second place 1 point behind us :-)
And how can you slag off Sanogo who once scored 4 goals against Benfica at the Emirates cup. Not even Messi has scored 4 goals against Benfica at the Emirates cup so look out, we may have a worldie on our hands!

6.) 04 Sep 2014 12:47:13
I hate the term mercenary. At the end of the day they are all employees of businesses. They all try and get that balance between joining a successful team and team that can pay them a very good wage. Going by your definition every player who signs for big money is a Mercenary. Do you think Ozil desperately wanted to sign for Arsenal? The Ozil signing pretty much exactly mirrors the Di Maria signing (Big player forced out of Real Madrid joins the only 'big' team able/willing to pay for him)

I really really hope Welbeck goes on to be the player for you that I wanted him to be at United. I think Wenger is the right manager to get the best out of him.

7.) 04 Sep 2014 18:33:25
RedRosie,

At the time Ozil was sold his price was genuine market value for the best No10 going.

You cannot believe that a lot of clubs would not have been in for him because that would be somewhat ignoring the truth.

He chose Arsenal.

This time around you have been prepared to pay crazy amounts for players that other clubs would naturally baulk at, even Mourinho stated there was no way they were paying that much for Shaw.

Who seriously is desperate enough to pay both Rooney and Falcao crazy money. No one, well except you.

Add to that Falcao wanted to go to Madrid and you can bet still does and Di Maria wanted PSG.

It doesn't say a lot for your club mate or the player.

8.) 04 Sep 2014 21:34:17
Ozil spent the entire of that deadline day waiting for United to make a bid. They didn't and he went to his next choice - Arsenal. Like it or lump it players will more often than not go where the money is. That is what football is now. If Barca offered a a tidy sum for Ramsey he'd be packing his bags and going. This 'loyalty' thing you speak of is dying out. Surely Arsenal fans of all people can see that!

Dags, answering your question about coverage of the EPL here in Canada, it's awesome! On an average weekend I can watch about 7-8 games. The big 5 are always televised. In the last 3 years I'm going to say I've probably only have had to watch a stream online about 4-5 times. Total cost of my cable bill converted roughly into £ it's about £50 a month.
(when I say big 5, I don't include spurs in that because, well, you know lol)

Ezdee

1.) I was on holiday in Canada during the World Cup (I know, what an person for booking a holiday during the WC!) and was impressed by the amount of coverage of it on TV, and of the overall knowledge and interest from the Canadians, especially versus the amount of American sports on offer. As a pom it made me proud!

2.) 13 Aug 2014 15:19:54
Lol. I was always struggling to find games 3-4 years ago in America. Now, with NBC sports, they cover every game every week. If it's not televised, I can stream it in HD! It's been much better.

3.) The coverage of games is excellent, but as far as news on the sport (not a game) there's nothing unless a player bites someone :)

4.) 13 Aug 2014 18:57:31
Thank you Ezdee.

Are there Canadian football teams?

5.) 13 Aug 2014 19:42:16
I am from India and even here the top 5 teams games are televised every week, even champ/europa league, fa cup, carling cup, and to my surprise even the emirates cup is televised

Apart from the English league we also get to watch the German, Spanish and the French league

All this for a mere 2 pounds a month

{Ed025's Note - bloody hell shankara!....that is value mate..

6.) We have a couple of teams from Canada in the MLS. I support Toronto FC, you know, the club that bought Jermaine Defoe for this season. Great goalscorer, when he's not on the treatment table, which he still visits frequently FFS!

7.) 13 Aug 2014 23:45:11
Things are usually cheap in India I believe. Perhaps spurs should've done their summer shopping in India last year

8.) 14 Aug 2014 01:26:11
It bloody is Ed025, and the best part its all in high definition.
D16 It pretty much is, but unfortunately alcohol and cars are almost three times what you would pay for.

I might cry.

Xavi goes onto say “We all admired Arsenal Messi, Fabregas, Iniesta and even YAYA when he was there, we admired the way Arsenal played the manager the spirit and everything about the club”

When asked about Messi rumours he said “Of course it is true, where else could you go and play beautiful football like at Barcelona? Arsenal of course, they remind us of ourselves”

If only Barca never existed.

Ezdee

1.) Oh well the least they can do is give us Inesta as compensation.
Messi in an Arsenal shirt would put the club under another financial period of constraint, as We'd need an even bigger stadium :-)
200,000 plus should do it

2.) 25 Jul 2014 21:42:58
He never mentioned me :(

3.) G62, compensation was paid when they overpaid for Song lol

If AW was to leave AFC, and we couldn't/wouldn't get a Mourinho, Ancellotti, Klopp to replace him, what would be the selling point in being able to attract world class players.
We're not a top 3 team in our own league; we're not a top 10 team in Europe; the current squad is FULL of dross; and we don't pay star players top wages.
Wenger, who has his flaws no doubt, still has many admirers throughout the world that would love to play for him or love to employ him.
So I ask all of you, what's the attraction to come play for Arsenal w/o Arsene?
Please don't say history because most of the top footballers out there only know Arsenal with Arsene.

I'm still on the fence about him leaving because I have zero faith in the board to adequately replace him. Better to deal with the devil you know than the devil you don't. At least we know he cares about the club, it's his love for economics that's f";cked up and should be left for his superiors to worry about.

Ezdee

1.) There are other options available for example Laurent Blanc look at what he did for Bordeaux, or we could try and get Heynckes when he leaves Bayer said to be rethinking his retirement. Both of these managers could attract players and are an example of what we could get

I'll agree on Pedro ed001, but not on Busquets whom I believe is in the top 5 in his position. Xavi said this in June about his teamate and no offense ed but I'll take his opinion over yours on this one. Busquets is not overated and would walk into most top teams starting 11.

"I think he's the player with the best understanding of football, both in attack and in defence, in the world.

"His game intelligence on the pitch is a wonder. And off it, I don't know anyone else whom I have the same affinity with. I think he's my natural replacement in the dressing room and on the pitch.

"He's destined to be the leader for Barcelona for the next decade, without a shadow of a doubt."

Ezdee

{Ed001's Note - I really do not care what Xavi said, he was a great player, but he is no scout and he is talking about his mate. I have heard that kind of crap said about team mates everywhere, but it is meaningless drivel. Busquets would only be top 5 in his position if there were only 4 others who played that role in the world. As it is, there are numerous players who play it better but they just don't have the team mates around them that Busquets has. He is not even half the player of Xabi Alonso or Nemanja Matic, for starters. He is a good player, but he is nowhere near a great one, except when stood next to one of the Barca front 3.....}

Calling Busquets average is by far the dumbest thing I've read in the 4 years I've been following this site. Wow just wow. No offense Btw, just had to be said.

Ezdee

{Ed001's Note - why? He is not the best in his position or even close to it. Dumb is assuming he is great because he plays for Barca. Probably the most overrated player in the world right now is Busquets, along with Pedro, as people verbally masturbate over them both simply because they play for Barcelona. If people actually bothered to watch them play, they would realise both are not good enough.}

Emi Martinez is the future gk. If Woj ever comes back it might be as a backup. Never rated the guy, he was just a better Almunia. Thank f*** we have Cech now.
