Hey guys, haven't posted in a while but I regularly read the site. It seems people have been letting their emotions do the talking before final whistle even comes. We may have just dodged a bullet that, metaphorically speaking, many people would have liked wenger to jump on front it and taken responsibility for what was a performance that is way below what is required for this competition. Don't get me wrong I'm frustrated with Wenger as well, but we shouldn't wish that we go backwards in the hope that we may then move forward. While I do think we need a change I think we should all be honest with ourselves in knowing that wenger will not be sacked due to a run of poor games. He will be judged on his entire season, and will I'm not optimistic at this point, we should look the future as opportunities to get back on track, to show teams the they need be afraid of us. We are 2-3 players short of being title contenders, I honestly believe that. while there's no reason we shouldn't have addressed those issues in the summer, I'm confident that wenger understands what he must do in January. We're only six points away from city, and that is something to think about given how many games we've drawn. Wenger's time for sure is running out, but I would hate to see his long reign end in frustation and stagnation. I don't want to look to these past years as the team that could have done so much, and I know that we are closer than we think to changing our current reputation. If wenger doesn't make changes and our season doesn't progress well, then we need to be more vocal about in other places along with this site. I football team is a business, and we are its clients, By the end of the season, if need be, we need to remind them of that fact.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good post that hoover, but i can understand the frustration of some of the guys mate, the team seem to have gone backwards..

I definitely agree with them in most respects, it definitely is harder for those who were there and witnessed when we were truly one of the best sides around. I'm only 22 years old and I grew up in Boston. That's not to say I'm any less passionate a fan, quite the contrary. But it does mean that I haven't suffered the same heatbreak of seeing what we are today versus the first 8 years of wengers reign. I don't blame those who are tired of it, I'm tired of it as well. But my position is that I still want to be optimistic, but this is the last year where if we end up no better than before I'll be more vocal than ever about the changes that so obviously need to be made.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are 2 or 3 players short of being title contenders. And a manager, it ain't going to happen with wenger. 4th at best, if we get a good tail wind.

Anderlects goal today was identicle to the one conceded on the weekend no aggression in defending the header!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the whole team looks devoid of self belief to me K..

Laughable, woeful, half hearted, and frankly embarrassing. Genuinely felt sorry for Alexis, only player without his thumb up his arse.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Oct 2014 22:52:11
Alexis and Gibbs the only two players on their game tonight, both involved in the goals at the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gibbs always does well for us. Big big fan

Or have we been blagged?

I'd rather us wait a bit and not risk injury. We have ox alexis Campbell pod and santi who can play on the wings. Ease him back in I say.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2014 21:57:52
Well we got away with that one, not sure how we managed to win that with such a poor performance. Anderlect players must be totally deflated.

So from looking like a battle to qualify with just 3 points we now have the chance to qualify just about with a win at Home in next game.

Sanchez the only one that had a decent enough game really. Wilshire poor, Flamini poor Chambers poor. I think he struggles as a RB I rather we use Monreal or Bellerin as RB and move Chambers in the centre.

That left hand side is still a problem for us with Gibbs getting exposed everytime on the counter. Carzorla provides zero protection and come inside too often. Wellbeck perhaps had his poorest game tonight failed to get hold of the ball enough.

Podolski and Ox need to used a lot more. They game on late and that is when we had our better pressure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Oct 2014 21:56:25
Paul Merson

" Disillusioned not much good to come out of tonight, Arsene covers over the cracks, sooner or later the fans will work him out "

Mers . we all ready have.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Merson has been a big wenger supporter. that's gone now

Fluke a paper up the cracks job. This was Anderlecht. ANDERLECHT! Third rate belgian outfit the whole tem costs about 20mil. Look beyond the result, look at the performance, A better team wouldve finished us off. We'll hear a load of crap about team spirit now. i'm sorry for 89mins we were abject turd and coulve lost 3-0 if we weren't playing against basically a championship side.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Oct 2014 22:03:40
Yes we were dire. In fact we have been dreadful all year. But surely let's see if we improve when we get Kos and Walcott back. Ozil Giroud Jan. Can't get worse, can it?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2014 21:49:40
And another thing

As Alan Smith says it really is Sunday morning defending.

1) Shouldn't have let the ball be crossed

2) What the hell wee Chambers and Flamini playing at.

ROFL
Gibbs
" we have made a statement "

You're not wrong mate

we are hopeless

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Too many passengers.

Wilshere is being given the no 10 spot he did not earn, while ozil was being moved to the wing.

Ramsey is yet to hit form, and has been quite abject this season.

defense is low in numbers and bad in defending.

Sczesny has cost us in many ways and his GK is not great, so we need a better GK too.

the CDM positon, for god sakes Arsene, flamini or whoever is supposed to be there, where are they?

teams normally struggle to play thru the middle, but against us its like a free walk.

not happy at all, and dreading sunderland now. they will want to avenge their 8-0 defeat and we will go into the game thinking we are going to batter them and come back with a draw.

Agree0 Disagree0

If u look at Gibbs interview, maybe watch it again, all is not well, he did not believe a word he was saying!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2014 21:44:40
woeful, rubbish, awful, crap, dreadful, pathetic, disgraceful .

Yes we won

BUT

Probably the worst performance I have seen from Arsenal for over 20 years, my word it was THAT bad.

Going to say it

WENGER YOU HAVE TO GO

I am also trying to understand what role Pat Rice and Now Steve Bould play, those two defenders both worked under the superb George Graham and his defence yet there is non of those defensive attributes on show.

Everyone

We are a poor poor side .

Dreading Saturday

Merson is just saying it is as bad as it gets

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good point. The first season with Bould our defence improved a lot. People forget it now but it was basically because Mert and Kosc formed their partnership and Arteta had a very good season in holding midfield. He has got worse due to age and not always being played in that role. It is clear as day that we need a quality CDM - that will improve the situation significantly. But organisation has got worse too, particularly this season. Really hard to tell why, as even Koscielny has made glaring errors. It's an issue of man management and comes back to Wenger really.

Agree0 Disagree0

No point in wenger having a number 2. he's too power mad to give them any credit. I think pulis in as his number 2 could save our season :)

I still don't care about the result we are simple not good Enuf end of we are going to struggle

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Oct 2014 21:42:03
Jesus we got out of jail but really only papering over the cracks of what was a shocker and that we very nearly got beat by a team like Anderlecht if it was Real or Barca we would have been hammered with defending like that. Very frustrating being an Arsenal supporter these days. Feel like I have run a marathon every time I watch them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Oct 2014 21:41:49
I don't know what to think anymore. I mean the way we've been playing at the moment is nothing more than, flat and boring, and for the first time in 24 years of supporting Arsenal, I find myself watching us struggle, a goal down, with utter boredom and indifference. And then we score 2 in the dying minutes.

To be honest I still feel indifferent. Looks like we're getting the points, but this was still one god awful performance, it wasn't a result we ground out, it was a pure smash and grab after 80 minutes of absolutely dire football.

Credit for his achievements but I absolutely hate what Wenger is doing to the club, the squad, and us fans. It's because of him, his 'philosophy' and his stubbornness that I'm feeling this way. It's his fault that we are suffering one of the worst injury crises in history. It's his playing people out of position that makes world class talents look like they'd struggle to get on the team sheet for Accrington Stanley. Its the wannabe del Bosque style he want's us to play that is giving us no end product in the final third, and makes us look out least dangerous going forward in all my years as an Arsenal supporter. And its his ignorance to the importance of a strong defence and centre midfield that is making us so leaky at the back.

We've spent almost 90 million in the transfer market and we're going backwards.

The last 2 games, I've been thinking of things I'd rather do than watch the match. It's never happened before and I don't want it to continue. I want my spark of passion for watching my club back!

Wenger Out!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Feel the same, I had no reaction to our second goal. that's a new and disturbing feeling.

Perhaps an ED can shed some light on my query.

i know you guys go on about not indulging in release clauses, but I would like to just inquire for my sanity.

since release clauses probably apply to the judicial system in the said country, I can understand why a release clause for a german player means nothing if Arsenal want said player.

however if a german team wants a said player, and the release clause is evident, they can practically offer the amount and get the player to agree to the move, with the selling club unable to stop the move, aka as a certain Goetze did.

am I right in saying so? or do I get the you know nothing Jon snow line?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Spot on Lakerville. Dortmund are regretting adding release clauses with Munich now looking to Reus. My simple summary:

This is a horribly complex area not least because they are written under individual national laws.

The "buy out" clause is legally binding between a club and a player. The "buy out" is effectively what it says - a means for the player to buy himself out of the contract. As an example, if a player wishes to buy himself out of a contract, he pays the applicable FA the amount of the "buy out" clause effectively becoming a free agent. The problem is that in most cases a player would need to obtain that money from the buying club - and this is fraught with issues regarding "tapping up" and, of course, taxation as it can be seen as income for the player and would therefore be subject to income tax. There was a test case about the taxation issue in Spain about three years ago.

A "release clause" is far more common in that it gives a figure that the club would accept for the sale of a player to another club - but it is not legally binding except where both parties are in the same country, and even then that only applies in certain countries - notably Spain and Portugal. These are normally unreasonably high figures (Messi at Barcelona for example) introduced to act as a deterrent for hostile bids - and even then the club could easily block a move. However, if a club does agree to match a release clause then the club would be obliged to ask the player if he is interested. Examples are Goetze who decide he wanted to move and Cavani who, regardless of two offers that were made in 2012 that matched or equated to his then "release clause" recognised Napoli did not want to sell and could block a move abroad and he accepted a new package.

There is then the becoming popular "termination clause" which is binding between the player and the club and if met would see an offer from anywhere accepted and the player given the opportunity to make a call on a move. This overcomes the issues associated with "buy out" clauses as the money would be paid by one club to another.}

Very good question Lakerville and brilliant answer by ED002. I too was so confused by these "buy out" and "release" clauses. A good question, well answered. Cheers to you both

Eds, I've heard some rumours about a meeting between Wenger and Monaco reps?

I can imagine Wenger will want to stay and the board would want the same, but you never know.

Can you shed any light?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I suspect something mentioned by Vadim Vasilyev has been twisted. Mr Wenger will run in to owners and senior staff from many clubs during the course of the season and certainly at the end of August he was in the company of many at an event in Monaco. I would note the owners (Zenit for one) of many clubs and representatives (Chelsea for one) of others were in Monaco. I was with the Zenit owners at the same event - they have not offered me a job yet.}

22 Oct 2014 15:44:36
Did they fail to meet your buy out/release/termination clause ed?

Just listened to the full post match interview wenger did with that women reporter. He keeps saying we concede too many goals. Ok so go get us a world class goal keeper. A world class defender and world class DM and we will go from there you clown

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Absolutely. I am not at all convinced by Szczesny, who is a safe kepper, but doesn't make many world class saves. I would like Begovic or try to rip Cech from Chelsea. Defence-wise, assuming we use Chambers as cover at centre back, we need another right back & a centre back. The right back we should sign is Clyne from Southampton and the centre back Nastasic from Man City. Defensive midfield players would be Pogba & Schneiderlin. These signings wouldn't be cheap, but would transform us into contenders. We could sell Arteta, Flamini, Coquelin, Ospina & Rosicky. I would be looking to releasing Abu Diaby at the end of the season, unless he makes a miraculous comeback.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who do you suggest we get Derbygunner, you seem to have it sussed.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2014 13:10:22
You guys are hilarious.

Shezza got joint golden glove last season - He is fine.

another right back? are you drunk? we have 3! chambers will move back to CB cover when debuchy is injured - nobody could have expected his injury.

Pogba? No chance. way out of our pricing. Especially with the competition from others if he was available.

Derby - you've lost the plot.
Robbie - even the Ed's think you have lost it ;)

get in a CB/2 and a CDM such as Schniderlin and that's all we will do realistically.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with Rob AFC. Although I still think we need a 4th CB. When Debuchy returns, that means we have 3 CBs (Kos, Per and Calum). We just need an extra CB(can be a CDM who also plays CB) and then an out and out DMF.

Solution:

Song on loan in January (6months)with view for permanent move nex summer
Schneiderlin or Khedira permanent (ASAP)
Arteta out next summer
Flamini out next summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Rob afc - Firstly this is a banter page, meaning we can chat about our team. I fail to understand why so many people merely want to score points.
As far as the RB position is concened we have Debuchy who is a decent player. We have Bellerin who is inexperienced & lightweight, whereas the top teams like Man City have 2 top quality RB's in Sagna & Zabeleta. Chambers I believe will ultimately become a CB who can cover at RB. However, we need 8 first team top quality defenders. At present we are short.
As for Pogba, the Italian clubs are struggling financially & every player has their price. If I told you before they signed that we would sign Ozil, Sanchez & Welbeck, would you have believed me?
As for Szczesny, I stand by my comments & both the keepers I mentioned would improve the team.
If our aim is to compete with the top teams in the PL & CL, the signings I mentioned are the type we need. We are way off the likes of Man City, Chelsea & all the major European teams. We need to spend to get up there with them.
The Ed's are not always right

Agree0 Disagree0

Yorkshire gunner. I would sign begavic to battle it out with szczesny

In midfield you can't tell me there's no one we could of signed and also in defence. i'm sick of people saying wenger tried zzzzzzz. If we pay the money for pogba and hummels I believe we would of got them. We need to stop making excuses for our manager

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2014 09:08:16
Unlikely I know but would love to see us go all out in January and bring in Mats Hummels and Morgan Schneiderlin - two top quality players who would fill the clear gaps in the team. Would also be happy to see us take a punt on Liam Moore from Leicester to provide extra defensive cover.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with the two big signings both are excellent players. i'd even be happy with subotic. And liam moore is worth a shout good young player

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't mind Westwood from Villa, decent young player, bags of quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi all:)
after watching west brom against the mancs, maybe we should try to sign all their defence? or at least their defensive coach? just a thought:)
COYG andi:)
ps. come on lads, need a result tonight:)

Andi, I hope you mean the WBA defence? Utds is worse than ours, I wouldn't want all their defence on free transfers and no wages!

Our injury situation is interesting. The long term injured players, Ospina, Debuchy, Ozil & Giroud all featured in the World Cup Finals, hence the post World Cup care at the club was not up to scratch. We now have Coquelin missing from tonight's squad & Abu Diaby continues to be absent from the first team squad. Koscielny, another World Cup casualty, has been played despite having an achilles complaint, that needed rest. If brought back to soon he may well require an operation. Currently, players are being played will little rest, such as Mertesacker & Chambers. Other players particularly the remaining defenders have little chance of rest before January when reinforcements can be brought in. Wenger must sort this problem out. He needs to look at the training regime, the tactical formation, the quality & balance of the squad and his ability to rotate players. It is no longer accpetable to consider our injuries unfortunate, they are a direct result of Wenger's policies. The medical team get blamed, but they are not responsible for the training methods, the formation used, the lack of defenders & rotation in the squad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have been thinking this for a long time. Good post!

Player management I feel has been below par for awhile now.

Agree0 Disagree0

So we are once again saying it wengers fault. Only one solution then

We have nearly 900 injuries since the start of the premier league. 900! How can they be 'unfortunate' get a grip wenger.

Can believe City want Ozil - he is class

Can't believe they want him to replace Toure though

We need to keep him and build around him.

If we do that - we need defensive cover in midfield plus a sub for Ozil as he plays 60 mins per game!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ozil. Silva nasri in the same team would be funny. Whos going to take a man on lol. There all too similar I think. And silva is better than ozil

Unbelievable.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id go and get begavic on jan the 1st. Or maybe valdes sooner as he's free agent.

Injuries are worst than ever now

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not like those players are just waiting to join us, and if they are, its porbably because we have to over pay on wages.

we need to get consistent and compacency needs to be cut out. squad is decent if they get competetive. not going to win doubles and trebles but they can win trophies. but not as they are in their current form
