Just to balance the discussion

Chelsea won the league by scoring just 2 more goals than us.

Giroud out for long periods, Walcott out for long periods, Ozil out for long periods , Ox missed a lot of the run in.

Our scoring exploits aren't as bad as is being portrayed......I feel.

Agree Bambam,

We will be starting off with a top class keeper from day 1, as opposed to mid season (last season), when Ospina took over from Sczezny.

Coquelin will be in starting 11 from day 1, unlike last season.

If we can get a bit of luck on the injury front, I see no reason not to be contenders.

Also, I have a feeling Jack and Theo will come of age this season.

Giroud had to be taken off in a champions leauge game because wenger thought he had to protected. Also went 9 games with out a goal at the end of last season. Good player but not as a number one CF for a club that wants to win the leauge.

Walcott has never played a full season up front nor has he had a season where he didn't pick up a big injury. Has showed nothing in the 9 years at Arsenal to show me he is a top quality a CF. Decent back up but not a regular starter. Right wing is his best position.

Welbeck was a desperate signing at a bargain price. That all I can say about him.

We also lost out on 2nd because we didn't score in 3 home games in a row despite being the better team in all 3 games.

Cf is a priority, comparing us to the rest of the top teams in Europe we are so far behind. If we put our stikers up for sale how many top teams will want them? Not saying we need to ship them out but they are no where near the class of the top strikers in Europe.

But we let in a lot of stupid goals. I mean, I agree that last season wasn't as bad as it was made out to be, but games like the 2-2 against Hull and Leicester were eventually the team's downfall; highish scoring draws

Some good points but we never put a challenge in for the league, finished lots of points behind and threw away second place when we had a full ish sqaud and not to hard a run in. I know you support giroud and I can see why you do, but my stance on him hasn't changed. I agree though there are other reasons than striker, that cause me concern and i have stated previously and won't go into. We are going into the new season with renewed hope and the players look sharp and ready. We are ( in my case was ) an optimistic lot at arsenal and think that every year, let's hope we make less bad decisions and mistakes this season and go about every game with the right attitude and give ourselves a fair crack.

I totally agree with noodles

There is no such thing as the perfect team. Chelsea won the league by a fair few points last season but even they are looking to strengthen. Barca dominated European football but even they are always looking for upgrades. Personally I believe the striker position is a crucial position in any team. Yes, a team should never rely on one man to get all the goals, but then the striker should at least always be one of the biggest threats. Whenever Giroud gets the ball in the box, I always kinda hope it was Sanchez or Santi. Yes he does score, but then does he score enough? No. Is he the type of player that would make a bug team adjust their usual style? No. Giroud has rarely scored a goal that had me screaming and jumping around the room. Some games will be tough, and the man in front of goal should be able to provide some spark every once in a while. A good striker will make the opposition adjust their style. This is where the fear factor is important

I seems few goals giroud has scored that were screamers

A great form of defence could be a super potent attack.
I am sure we defended well at times because teams were afraid of what our attack could do to them...
A potent attack, always gives you hope just like Chelsea's defence gives them hope of holding out for a draw or single goal lead.
Lets beef up the attack!

Our best Summer signing so far?

Tying up Theo on a 4 year contract.

Great business.

Hey Gooners,
As wrong my comments may seem to be, I still say we need a world class centre forward.
For the past three seasons we've been scoring around 70-75 goals in the premiership.
We used to have Rvp in 2011-12 but our team wasn't getting enough goals, and when the team started to get goals from midfield, our world class striker left(though he got a lot worse treatment from van gaal and is sold now) and the rest is history.
But look at man city and the Liverpool side of 2013-14.
They had sturridge and Suarez.
One that can get 20 goals and the other 30 goals.
We have Giroud for 20 goals, and benzema for 30 goals would do this summer.
Otherwise we will not win the title, as shrewd it may seem.

I agree we need another striker but depends weather Wenger thinks we do I hope so

26 Jul 2015 22:24:02
Agree but Martinez has gone to Atletico Madrid, Lacazette staying at Lyon, Benzema will stay at Madrid and Higuain will stay at Napoli.

Aguero will stay at Titty and Suarez will stay at Barca.

Who is left?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 22:27:05
Although I do agree we need another striker you say Giroud for 20 goals and no one for 30. Is Alexis not capable of 30?

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Jul 2015 22:55:29
Giroud 20.
Theo 15.
Sanchez 15.
Rambo 10.
Jack 8.
Santi 10.
Welbz 10.
Defence 10.

Equals Champions.

Agree with all you Gooners who replied.
We need to make an offer which a club can't simply refuse.
We need to cough up a few extra millions.
Imagine if we offer 45-47 millions for reus? Will they refuse that?
And besides Dortmund don't have champions league football.
reus will be pretty much interested in the move.

I'm feeling very hopeful now that you put it like that Dags, there's definitely goals in the squad. I think the Ox will be someone to keep an eye on this season too, he is getting towards prime age and has plenty of experience. I think he will also be trying to add more goals to this game aslong as he can keep fit this season.

It's a bit like this with Spurs fans. Yawn yawn yawn.
So much that I can't even be bothered to point anything out to you.

United fans get a bite #competition
City fans get a bite # competition
Chelsea fans get a bite -# competition

It's not as if you have anything to banter with no trophys , no history I mean you haven't ever finished above us in the EPL. Isn't there any villa fans you can go bother?

What is everyone's thoughts on Akpom?

He looked a little selfish to me.

I know he is a striker so that is not all bad, but he needs to look up and find a pass to a better placed player. (I imagine Ramsey will be having a word with him after the game).

I think he can make it (eventually), but he has to start playing for the team and learn when to be selfish and when to lay it off to a teammate.

James.r I think we are distant relatives. All the younsters year after year that show promise at 17 18 with the exceptionof a few don't make it, and not only with us. But let's hope we have a few world beaters to come thru. Nowadays they don't get time to prove themselves or don't train on and end up moving on eg denilson, vella, merida, alliadiere, bendtner, landsbury, bentley etc etc.

I agree mate, in 60 minutes he's shown so many different skills and he clearly has a very good footballing brain. I wonder if they'll fast track him like Fabregas and keep him. As you say, he looks too good for a loan.

We might have a right gem on our hands.

26 Jul 2015 12:53:54
I would agree, it is my understanding that agreements in the past have been made between Dortmund and the likes of barca, Madrid etc. Only for reus to refuse to even discuss a move, so why the f would he come to Liverpool or arsenal?!

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 13:04:21
Do think Saint that he could be like what shearer and Gerard were to their respective clubs or do you think he would worry about playing time with Madrid and barca
