boys, don't forget the clocks go back tonight, so that gives us an extra hour to gloat that WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE. (come on, I bet you are wished you thought of that one lol)

That means an extra hour at work for me

I loved the way we dug in today. Considering the deflating loss to Dortmund earlier this week I kinda knew it was going to be easy to come out firing on all cylinders. Well earned 3 points!

Kudos to DG and Gunner62 for keeping the banter going outside the transfer window. Also Lakerville with his knowledgeable posts. I just love being a Gunner right now!

PS I believe come next week but one, we will be serving Dortmund a nice cold dish of revenge in their own backyard

Forever a gunner!

Rue1025, pleasure mate, we try our best to entertain lol

We are still in October and my misuss has just had me go up in the loft to get the decorations down so we can replace any we need in time for Christmas, the woman's mad!

Any way while I was up there I found a present I meant to give the kids last year but forgot.

shame! Because they really would have loved that puppy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

G62, I love that

Agree0 Disagree0

Such lies will not be tolerated gunner62! you don't have a misuss!

soz pal couldn't resist!

Agree0 Disagree0

Brumy I do mate, honest! and I spoil her rotten.
She said to me last night " I'm sick of doing house work" being the thoughtful man I am I said " have a break babe do some ironing "

It was freezing on the couch last night

Agree0 Disagree0

I know how you feel G62, but remember one thing. losing a wife can be very difficult, she keeps bloody finding her way back.

This season has shown wenger what we already all knew, that we needed that defensive midfielder. Hopefully we will sign another one in jan in the same mould as flamini as he can't and won't play every game.
Who would you sign, be realistic guys we not going spend over 15mill on a squad player

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A cheap option is mohammed diame of west ham, available for about £4m. I know a lot of hammers who all say he is a very good DM and would jump at the chance of coming to the Emirates

Agree0 Disagree0

Schneiderlin - 24 years old, good on and off the ball, with the most interceptions last season and doing well this season. Would fit in at the Arsenal very well.

Gonalons - Similar age. In and around the French national team. Lyon mid table, and with the 75 percent tax issue in france, he may be up for a move.
Both read the game well and are above 5 foot 8. Don't know how much they would cost though. Can't imagine more than 15m
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Schneiderlin every time. I've been watching Southampton a few times this season and he's a non stop machine in the middle he's a monster, would love him at the emirates along side dejan lovren.

Agree0 Disagree0

Schneiderlin does sem good we should be able to get him hope saints are out of the champs leg running by jan, been really impressed by them a few more signings and there be a top side

Agree0 Disagree0

Schneiderlin and Gonalons are great choices but what about Imbula on Marseille? 21 years old and very promising. Thought he looked very good against us

whats everyone's preferred starting XI for the chelski game on Tuesday?
I'm hoping we give some of the youngsters a run out, with tv5 tr7 nb52!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brummy, I think he should try out the new Italian keeper, monreal, tv5, jenks, gnarby, rosicky, frimpong and bendtner

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope Eisfeld and Zelalem play too

Suarez. what more can you say? bloody fantastic striker but I would never put anybody in place of olly giroud and we will never go back to a 4 4 2 formation so I will just have to carry on dreaming

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I knew it, I knew this would happen! As soon as I saw the result I thought DG will be at it again with the Suarez thing :-) :-) :-)

All joking aside mate he is a real handful and his side kick ain't exactly rubbish either, could be a classic next Saturday, hope not but could well be

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol G62, I see you saw right through my poorly disguised pop at you? hehe well done mate.
yes they do frighten me mate, awesome partnership but we have enough in our locker to take the 3 points, I hope.

Most important thing today (aside from winning!) was the clean sheet. In spite of Flamini, we have not been as defensively secure this season as we were last. There were some signs of that today when Palace players occasionally got too much space around the box, but we generally dealt with it well. Arteta was very strong defensively before the sending off, made at least 3 crucial challenges. And Szcesney of course was on very good form. After the slip-up against Dortmund it was important to look back at this aspect of our game, I'm glad we showed the steel to take 3 points and not concede.

not the best performance but 2 goals scored/clean sheet and very importantly 3 points. a win is a win and good teams win when they don't play well so not a bad afternoon.

So we are 25% of the way through the season and a top of the league with our closest rivals ( as things stand) coming to us next Saturday.

Reasons to be cheerful are plentiful, yes Flamini is a big loss but was always going to happen at some stage either through suspension or injury.

Coping without key players in big games is what separates also runs from contenders.
Big test but one we are more than capable of passing, we are a team full of match winners in one form or another, which brings me nicely to some one I haven't exactly been a fan of but is very happily proving me wrong, take a bow Szczesney

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah I agree with you there gunner62!

Just hope were around the top of the league come Jan, with pod and walcot back! (spelling) and then may be add something more from the window!

Hey guys,

am I right in thinking Arteta's red card is a one match ban that will be served via the carling cup game? {Ed002's Note - Right.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks ed

Agree0 Disagree0

Really! GRREAT POST BRUMMY MATE. Oh well an even better day than I thought then :-) :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi ed002

nice to see you here:) WB!
COYG andi

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah the carling cup is basically the league cup which is associated to the league so therefore the carling cup match is basically equivalent to a league match so it will count as Artetas suspended match for the red card today. (i had so much fun writing this post so please make sure you post it Ed002) lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Good knowledge DG, I didn't know that but I'm happy to learn it. So basicly we got 3 pts and Artetta will mis a game he would of sat out any way, no harm done

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, why is it so? because generally red cards are 3 game ban correct? {Ed002's Note - No. It is three games only if it is violent conduct.}

Agree0 Disagree0

G62, that is correct my friend. wenger won't appeal against it because they could ban arteta for more matches. As Ed002 said, it wasnt violent conduct so he only misses 1 match, against chelsea mate

As I have said, Arteta's lack of pace is a killer

Stand up guy, class act, legs are simply not what they used to be

The Flam injury is a big worry

Good points. Every match we play now teams will give us everything they've got to beat us. Considering that, when you get the points, well done

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No way was it Arteta's fault lol, if it was koscienly the exact same thing probably would of happened.

Agree0 Disagree0

Poor organization if you ask me. We should of had another player near the half-way line as we know Arteta isn't the fastest

a web site says Arsenal is considering a bid for Alexander Pato. I kind of like this rumour. He'd be something different to Giroud. Pato is kind of Walcott with control and heading threat. Maybe not quite as fast as Walcott (still plenty fast), but with better timing, positioning and composure. And he is still only 24! Sure Pato has had a LOT of injuries, but maybe if he'd hire the same personal trainer Gibbs is using. Sure did end Gibbs' injury problems.

The thought of Özil picking passes behind the line for Walcott, Pato and Ox. :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pato would be great and I think Muriel, and maybe even Remy, could do the job too

Good result, due to a hard working performance. It was not a foul by Arteta, the foul was by Chamakh. We should appeal. We still need a defensive player as back up for Flaimini. I would like to see if Frimpong can fill in. I would play him on Tuesday, as well as Fabianski, Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Monreal, Rosicky, Bendtner.

I'm not one for putting square pegs in round holes, but I'm thinking we may have to think about it. In the past on this site there have been a few suggestions of trying Vermarelan as a d.m, which has never convinced me. But with Arteta suspended and Flamini pulling up we are now seriously needing a defensive minded player in that position, especially against Dortmund.
With that game in mind the role we need the d.m to play is pure defensive. No going forward, no entering the oppositions half, just protect the back four. So if I was Wenger and Bould I would start working on Verm playing that position.
Can't see belief in Frimpong winning the day, and Jack and Ramsey just aren't those type of players. Help!

PLEASE! PLEASE! any other suggestions, because I'm seriously struggling. Happy with the three points though!
Flybo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Flybo mate I was thinking Vermeullan Dmf, if he can hold position its a decent option, but possibly Monreal? Frimpong is well out of favour so not an option but if he does get a chance against Ze Russians he could become one.
Who ever plays there against Liverpool has the chance to make their mark and stake a real claim for the Dortmund game and become a big option the rest of the season.
The job is tough but the rewards are fantastic for the right man

Agree0 Disagree0

Always been a fan of Verms as DM, been laughed at on here or saying that

Agree0 Disagree0

The Russia match should be a great time play him there and see how he does position wise, don't see why its such a bad shout Baggins mate stranger things have changed career's.

Wasn't Petit a centre back originally? And Henry a winger?

Agree0 Disagree0

I prefer the idea of monreal there but we get arteta back for liverpool because he serves his ban in the carling cup

Agree0 Disagree0

Flybo. g62 and baggins I agree but is vermaelen match fit? to plat DM you have to be a bit of an animal and not sure if TV5 suits that role, although we might not have much choice.

3 points and that's all that will matter come May, now please rest the first team Sir Arsene PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

Really pleased we put out our best team today it was the right thing to do, but Flamini won't be playing for a bit and if Arteta's card is not down graded we need to protect all we have left for next weekend.

Top of the league still and pressure on others now we done our job today :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh how I love arsenal!

Agree0 Disagree0

Also want to say that I really enjoy you and dagenham keeping up the banter on this site!

Arsenal got the job done, and that's all that matters. chalk up the three points, even if it wasn't 5-1!

it was one of those games that I was never truly worried though. from the onset of the West brom game earlier this year I had that gut feeling that we would slip up, but against palace I never had that.

keep it up boys.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers OH
The site is brilliant
I like every thing from the thought provoking questions people post as well as the really funny stuff, its really good to be able to share the good, not so good and in between times with so many fellow Gooners.
Not sure what I use to do before I found this site! Oh remember, listen to the misuss and how her days been, i'm SOOOOOOO happy I found this site:-) :-) :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you OH, me and G62 try our best. some would say we are a bit like laurel and hardy or even morecambe and wise although most say we are more like french and saunders GGGGRRRRR

And its good night from me

Agree0 Disagree0

And its goodnight from him, goodnight

More like 'Hinge and Bracket' if truth be known, prancing up and down Seven Sister Road with big frilly petticoats!!

How dare you Exiledclockender! we wouldn't be seen dead down the seven sisters, we are more upmarket, we frequent highbury corner lol

Team looks good for today, and the bench looks quite healthy too.

I predict Ozil and Santi to tear them apart and keep them busy, leaving Ramsey unmarked to sneak up and score a couple.

5-1 is my bet too

COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats, that prediction out of the window, damn you Arteta!

Looks like we'll be missing Flamini and Arteta for the next few games.
