With regards to the Sterling debate:
Seems to me that he pretty much occupies the space that Alexi Sanchez does for Arsenal.

Whilst he is obviously a good player and in future MAY become an extremely good player, I don't think he will see his future at AFC and his comments about being flattered by AFC interest are more likely to be merely to apply more pressure on LFC and possibly to alert other clubs to his future availability.

I don't believe he will become an AFC player in the near future.

Meanwhile some cover for and completion for Coquelin is probably more likely

{Ed025's Note - you may be right ECE mate..

Absolutely spot on. One of those scenarios though, if we can get him, should we?

Not the Arsenal way.

Gunner - Sammy himself could be a bit lively on occasions - as most players could but few of them were biters or stampers.

What is the situation with Theo? Last year when he went under th knife I am fairly sure it was said it would be about 4-6 months with non- arsnal experts saying it could be a lot quicker. The physio site now says he will be available at end of January 2015.? Sureky that's excessive.

ExiledClockEnder

{Ed025's Note - surely that cant be right ECE...if he had both legs amputated iwould expect him back sooner than that!

1.) ACL injury are pretty much 8-10 months depending on the player. Some take longer to get back to full speed though

2.) Especially a player who relies on speed and changes of direction like Theo. Can understand not rushing him back. Personally think as long as the Ox is fit it won't be a huge loss.

{Ed025's Note - i think theo would be a massive loss to any top prem side wire..

3.) I agree but I'd rather have Theo take his time in recovery and come back full strength than rush himself back and possibly be less than 100%. Ox can cover for him in the time it takes to be fully fit

With regards to Danny Welbeck - it's worth remembering that Ian Wright had only a handful of games before his mid 20's and made little real impact on the game unyil his late twenties.
To expect DW to be the finished article with very little real experience yet is a bit much.

I think he looked pretty good when playing right at the front and a year or so more experience could see him develop well as he has basic attributes that give him a big edge - pace power and size.

Would like to keep him as cover for OG (unless we do in fact buy a real superstar striker)

Compared to Benteke 32 million Danny at 16 million is a real bargin buy, he never gives less than his all isn't a spot of bother and showed his total 100% commitment to Arsenal by celebrating scoring the winning goal at old Trafford last season without hesitation.
I'm pleased we've got him in our squad and who knows he could very well do this season what Harry Kane did last season because let's face August 2014 few people rated Kane better than Southendtastic.

2.) 04 Aug 2015 22:00:15
Given choice last year I'd of got bony for 20mill or benteke for 25mill
Welbeck I don't rate that highly

3.) 04 Aug 2015 23:02:12
I don't rate Welbeck that highly, presently, but I do believe he has the potential to become a top striker in the league if given the time and experience to continue developing, he already has a handful of qualities anyone woukd want in a striker. Technically he is a very good player, decent first touch, calm on the ball, and loves to drive forward with the ball and get in the opponents faces. His finish is somewhat lacking but I remember a few years ago we were saying that Theo couldn't finish his dinner, and he turned alright. I'm willing to be patient with him.

His goalscoring record for England speaks for itself, you don't get 14 in 33 international appearances without having something about you.

4.) 05 Aug 2015 00:03:26
I like dw gives his all every game he come good

5.) 05 Aug 2015 08:11:14
Yup, he does give his all and he's a great lad. Sadly he tends to fall over a lot and rush his decision making. He's great as a squad player and I would have kept him as that

6.) 05 Aug 2015 08:12:52
YE great international record let's get peter crouch to partner him. scoring against san marino and northern ireland means very little

7.) 05 Aug 2015 10:35:58
We have to give Welbeck a fair chance to show what he can do, i rememember Bobby Pires had a really stinker of a first season, and a lot of fans said they didn't rate him. i'm not say Danny is going to be as good as Pires, but let's give the lad a proper injury free season and let's judge him then. I think he will come good.

Rearding all the posts about Schneiderlin and us 'missing' out on him.

Seem to have seen Southampton selling an awful lot of players over the last year and none of them have really lived up to the price tag- meanwhile Southampton have improved.

I do understand that wish to buy players but the players we have now are MUCH better than most of the targets people are suggesting.

If MR Pound Sterling is worth £49 million then what is Jack or Aaron or Theo or Alex or etc etc worth?

ExiledClockEnder

1.) 13 Jul 2015 21:06:49
Schneiderlin is a good player, but statistically, Coq was better than him in almost every aspect of defensive play.

Morgan is a very balanced midfielder.
Coquelin is purely there to cause havoc.

So, yeah, I agree!
I think we all have this desire to see us sign a big player every other day, but the reality is, we still can't financially compete with Chelsea, City or even United to a degree, so the reality of it is, we have to make sure we sign a player that will truly improve our team.

Is Schneiderlin a direct upgrade to our midfield?
I don't think so personally.

When you look at some players, like Vidal, who's linked with us more every day, as blown up as the rumours are, Vidal is an upgrade to our midfield.
He's a world class midfielder, all action.
Signing him would allow us to have him and Coq in midfield in an almost (albeit much shorter) petit-Vieira pairing.
One very dynamic, one more defensive, they aren't going to grab you a load of goals, but they are going to allow the likes of Ozil, Sanchez and Walcott/Ox to create and shine, because the energy of those two provides some confidence that they can cover.

That's just my look on it!

2.) 13 Jul 2015 21:24:52
Spyder would without question improve spurs or similar but if he can have a big impact in a top 4 side is yet to be seen, Fellaini at Everton looked every bit as good as Spyder at Southampton (irrespective whether people like him or not, he was absolutely outstanding at Everton).
Its all opinion until next May but he's in his prime at 26/27 and utd had little competition for signature at £25 million, I'm not saying he won't be fantastic just that he wouldn't be the first to not make the step up from being excellent in a top 10 side but struggle in the champions league place side.

3.) 13 Jul 2015 22:30:16
I agree D Vidal walks in the side but Spyder? Aaron or Santi which one would he displace? He'd be a £25 million squad player.

note to ladsbantah re Charlie George fa cup final goal.

the iconic bit was his lying down on hi back to celebrate - there is a sort of statue of it in the afc museum.

We've certainly hit silly season at a gallop.

Media are in a frenzy of completely made up crap in the hope that it will create friction and thereby more stories - this way the reprters can fill columns all day with no effort and not leaving their desks.

IMO if Wenger is making noises about a contracted player like Sterling then he's just having a laugh and at the same time trying to disrail other teams transfer strategies.
No doubt we will soon get 100 posts a day from the voice ot transfer reason or Malaga as he's known (inter alia).

Was good to see Theo looking stronger, faster and more involved against Sunderland.

Carvalho and Bale...... lotsa doh but EPL in the bag

ExiledClockEnder

1.) 30 Apr 2015 12:11:44
Bale will end up at manu I think. We are not paying anyone 300k a week. Manu have with Rooney Tho.

I still want sterling

2.) 30 Apr 2015 22:13:23
Unfortunately I think you may be right about Bale butfor me the jury is still out on Raheem- he may well have the odd character flaw in the way of his talent.

most of these rumours seem to have the effect (accident or design?) of encouraging betting and filling bookies back pockets.

In looking through the last few days 'rumours' the source data seems to be coming from a lady who wants to be famous and a bloke who I understand is not against the odd bet.

Wouldn't like to hang anyone on that evidence.

I would think that the delay in signing is likely to be waiting for the transfer window to officially open.

There seem to be suggestions that part of the Cech deal is that the Ox goes the other way!
If that were true (regardless of the financial terms) it would take the shine of it some!

Rioch just coincidentally the manager at the time ARSENAL signed Bergkamp. had been a target for years.

As far as bargains go . yes Henry and Bergkamp. but what about value of signing Anelka? Or even Overnars (considering what he did and how much we sold him for.
