No matter how good Viera was, Arsenals best bargain signings were Henry #1 and Bergkamp #2 - the fact that there is a discussion means the manager has done well!

During that time Arsene had no equal, if you also include the time that's past since the invincibles, it paints a very different picture.

Going to disagree and say Freddie Ljungberg.
Cost us £3m, won 2 titles and 2 Fa Cups. Scored in 3 FA Cup finals if you count the penalty shoot out against Manchester United.
Scored 72 goals in 216 games, that's better than most strikers.
No.1 bargain buy for me.

Personally I think the fact we're talking about historical footballers still and like it or not that's what the invincibles are now obviously much more recent history than Giles Brenner Lorimer but when talking about our title winning teams we have more in common with Leeds than we do utd Chelsea and city.
Its time for us as a club and Arsene as a manager to stop living off the past.

Red Bergy was signed by bruce rioch, poor manager, but greatest ever signing bar wrighty. Henry, viera petit overmars pirez and lungberg great signings. We could do with some of them now.

My bad Steve, you are spot on.

Still going to stick with Henry, he has to win the bargain signing because he was bought on the cheap and became the best player in EPL.

Anelka - huge profit and we bought great players off the back of that money

hector - nothing

Coq - nothing

RVp - 1.5m

Cesc - nothing

Cech - 10m

Kos and Giroud were modern day bargains

Still think Santi, Sanchez and Ozil were great value
He still has a good eye so let's not forget that

Rioch just coincidentally the manager at the time ARSENAL signed Bergkamp. had been a target for years.

As far as bargains go . yes Henry and Bergkamp. but what about value of signing Anelka? Or even Overnars (considering what he did and how much we sold him for.

Very true SY the players you mention are modern day and much more relevant to Arsenes current ability, but of the 5 biggest premier league clubs we are still the only ones not to have had a top 2 finish in the last 10 years.
Arsene's ability to make the club money is as good as ever but on challenging for titles in the modern game the question mark is still there.

62 - way other top top club has had to fund a new stadium

How many of the top top clubs are bank rolled to a ridiculous level.
