If as I think is looking more and more likely Cesc comes home this summer, Ramsey Ox Ozil Cesc and a quality holding MF, next season might just be very exciting for us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im sorry to pour water on your fire, i'd put big money on cesc not being here this coming sesson. Too many other priorities else where for us to recyify. We need a different type of player, we will not be having reunion.

Agree0 Disagree0

In any case where areyou going to fit walcott, draxler, di maria and reus in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Throw Loic Remy in the mix and I would be very happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cazorla out and Cesc in would be a good bit of business.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cazorla, arteta, diaby, out and cesc & bender in? I like that even better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why are there anti-Santi guys on here? As a squad player he's an absolute must keep. His contribution over the last few seasons has been outstanding.

Agree0 Disagree0

He doesn't really fit though does he why have an 18mil squad player who is unhappy playing on the wing and won't get a game playing cam? Sell him and buy a winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Assuming Arsenal carry on with the 4-2-3-1 formation there is no specific need for 'wingers'. The system is set up so the 3 can interchange. This is tailor made for players like Santi, Walcott and Ozil.

When Santi played in Spain he played from wide and provided a load of assists as well as scoring the most goals from outside the 18yrd box of any player.

The problem, as with most players, is consistency. He needs a run of games to build his confidence. It's clear over the last few weeks that he has his groove back.

Also, I believe Santi cost in the region of £16M. We've had two good seasons out of him and given his age I think he'd only command ~10M in the transfer market. It'd cost more than this to replace him, then factor in a new player gelling with the squad etc, etc.

Santi is a great player and under no circumstances would I endorse selling him.

So now that Chelsea have been knocked out.

and The specialist in failure is in the FA cup final.

so whose season will be considered a failure?

Man City if they don't win the league, but have won the league cup?

Chelsea if they don't win the league?

Arsenal not winning the league and depends on the FA cup

or Liverpool may or may not win the league.

obviously only 1 of 3 will win it, so are they others considered failed season?

on a side note did anyone notice that chelsea home record was taken away by sunderland, and today sunderland from madrid did the same, should we change to striped red and white jerseys for chelsea games?

oh and my insider source has told me john terry was seen crying all over the world on tv cameras not because they lost the game, but because he wanted to go to lisbon and do someones wife, now that he can't go to lisbon he has to do his own wife.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lol good post Laker

Agree0 Disagree0

No its not dags :-P

Agree0 Disagree0

No matter what, Liverpools season has been a success, depending on city or Chelsea, whichever one of them wins the league (if Liverpool don't) the others season should be considered a failure, the capital one cup is a measly return for all that money spent in the summer for city, and for Chelsea, you can't go one season without a trophy with Mourinho, that's just embarrasing, he may as well leave London and not come back right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah it is Chris, lol

Wow diego simione stand up and take a bow. What ever happens from here on in, this guy is ripping it up. Could he dare to do the double. I think he's the real deal and me i'd give him what he wants to boss our club. But I think we missed a trick there.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mourinho has made an already unpopular Chelski into the team everyone wants to lose badly every time they play.
In that and that alone this season he has succeeded, in all else he is a very spectacular specialist in failure

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be nice to see them empty handed ad far as cups are concerned.

Agree0 Disagree0

So coaches who have had mourinhos number more than he has theirs.

Pep Guardiola
Klopp
Diego Simione
Tito Villanova (RIP)

Agree0 Disagree0

He will go out buy two strikers, spend on other areas, have a team that's costs roughly 200+mill at any odd time and pick on wenger and rodgers whose teams will be worth half his, yet keeping up with the big boys.

Just a quick, naysaying post (sorry!)

Lots of people seem to be taking Lothar Matthaus's talk about Djrmic as gospel.

He said it's a 'done deal' and that Djrmic's wife is looking at flats In London for then.

Djrmic isn't married.

So, all in saying, is if he's wrong/mistaken/lying about one small thing like that, why not anything else?

Peace.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lets hope so. Still he is a doctor mic could be useful elsewhere in the club. Not what I was hoping for. I hope mataus is telling porkies.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair point but I think he re-tweeted and said "girlfriend".

Agree0 Disagree0

At 4.5 million he's our man is my guess

Bravo to Atletico

They play some outstanding football

With the money they make from CL they should buy Courtios full time, or make an offer to get De Gea back

Rest should be spent on extending their best players

This team can be good for a few seasons

Everyone loves what Klopp does at a Dortmund, they ought to take notice of Simeone at Atletico and also, Garcia at Roma

Both will be serious contenders next season for the CL

Gonna be a heck of a CL final

Now let's get back in it and have our say next season!

Looks like Mourinho's bus has broken down.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When the parking works its genius, but when it brakes down it shows they can't play any other way.

was way too impressed with Athletico. they may win the champions league and la liga, with a budget even we should be ashamed off. well done Athletico and Dortmund, you show that it can be done. wenger should be taking coaching classes from klopp and simione.

Just read a rumour about a possible return of Cesc Fabregas. What are the chances of this happening Eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Measured how?}

30 Apr 2014 18:35:34
Poll of the day.

Would you swap Ozil for Cesc?
(Great question, what Ed thought of that one?)

The result is currently 12% NO.

Wow, a bit surprised to be honest, thought it would be closer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No point I am sure we have an option at around 25mil? We payed 42mil for Ozil that sounds like a bad deal tbf especially when Cesc has been far from the player who left us for the last 2 seasons. Now Cesc + Pedro and I am sure a few would change their stance I know I would! :)

Agree0 Disagree0

No swapping we buy cesc and add to ozil

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard the deal was cesc + 30 mill making it around 55mill in total?

still i'd say no and pay for him to replace arteta

current captain past it? bring in a new one, a new one that is also an old one? bonus!

looks like bergkamp and overmars and de boer are on they way to the sleeping giant mind you bergkamp is a yoddo pure football at the lane is back

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If by sleeping you mean unconscious, and if by giant you mean Oompa loompa, then I'd agree. If only you had 100m to spend you should easily get champions lea. Oh!
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Knowing Tottenham, they will sell white hart lane, buy 7 crap players and realise they have nowhere to play.

D'oh

Agree0 Disagree0

Vally person pure comedy sleeping giant. More like unconscious Rik Waller looooool

Agree0 Disagree0

Not satisfied with last summers fiasco in the market where you spent 100 million to stand go backwards your now hoping against hope to sign players in their 40 's.

Hi edd according to guillem balague barca are having a big clear out and expects Valdez, song, fabregas, alvez, tello, Sanchez, batra all to leave and they will make 2 world class signings that will go straight into the starting 11 firstly is there interest in any barca player and if they sell fabregas do we have first refusal also if he's sold to another club do we make any money also edd do they want any arsenal players maybe koscielny or ozil thanks very much really appreciate it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Hummels, Halilović Griezmann, Kroos, ter Stegen and Müller seem to be the players Barcelona are interested in right now. I would expect Tello, Mascherano, Sanchez, Valdes, Alex Song and Afellay to move on. Possibly Pedro and Fabregas.

If Arsenal wish to show interest in any they know what they need to do.}

Would take Tello on the cheap he looks really lively every time I see him play for Barca.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tello has pace but i'm not sure he has the strength to play that position in the EPL.

Mascherano is too old, Alex song is no good, Valdes will end up with a massive pay cheque, and Afellay is crap.

Sanchez would cost way too much and I don't think wenger is even looking at him.

Cesc is the only player I would like back, hope we have that buy back option, would hate to see him end up with our rivals. as we know his quality in the EPL. hope they keep him thou.

I was reading an article describing ronaldo as a rolls royce. For me on the car theme bergkamp was a rolls royce, ronaldos a ferrari. So I got thinking, messi a porche, giroud and I swear it was the first thing that came into my head, transit van. Sorry all you giroud lovers. What players would you give a vehicle comparison to. Emile eskey, tank.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Messi would have to be an ariel atom, just insane.

Ronaldo would be a lamborghini, looks and speed

Zlatan compares himself to a ferrari so i'd give him that.

Giroud is a transit van

about diaby is a land rover ( worst reliability index)

Ozil is a porsche

ramsey is a bentley

and Andre Santos is a Dacia Sanderos

Agree0 Disagree0

Mertesacker>>>18 wheel truck because they both have the same turning circle.

Sanogo>> Kitt the car from knightrider because half the time he's invisible and you don't even know he's there.
(Harsh lol, but I bet Goldboy will find it funny).

Cazola, mg midget. Rvp.is a not very reliant robin.

Question - with Drmic said to coming in (again), what do people think this means for "big striker" signing.

As with last year, I suspect the merri-go-round is going to be sparked by the sale of one big striker.

In this case, Diego Costa MAY be a small spark, but I think IF Cavani moves, then we will see a flurry of activity accordingly.

As such players will be moving around for 40-50mln, which I still believe is a one off for arsenal

Just thinking ahead to the transfer window this summer (as we all do in late April) and I was looking at Benzema last night and wondering whether he really is world class.

He plays in probably the team most conducive to scoring goals in the world right now - with the two best wide men crossing in great balls for him every match. This might be wrong, but I think he's scored 24 goals in all comps this season.

Giroud has 21 in our team, and he doesn't exactly play as the purely "goal scoring" striker like Benzema does.

Giroud was also starting ahead of Benzema for France a while ago, which suggests there really isn't that much difference between the two. Also, you have to ask: if Giroud was playing for Real Madrid this season, would he have scored more than 24? Very possible.

Quality strikers don't come cheap these days because there are really only a handful out there (that are in Arsenal's price range anyway). Costa is probably Chelsea bound, Lewandowski is already going to Bayern and the likes of Cavani, Falcao, Suarez etc are all probably too expensive.

So that leaves us with Benzema, and a few similarly priced strikers - Martinez and Benteke etc. I'm not convinced, I don't believe the hype.

Would love to get some other opinions on this - so I can see if I'm being a total person or not :-) Peace.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In some ways you're trying to suggest Giroud is equal to or better than Benzema.are you mad?

Benzema is by far the more complete striker. Granted both offer pros and cons but Benzema is the better finisher and would suit Arsenal's style of play.

If he's available, sign him up!

Agree0 Disagree0

While I agree the likes of Lukaku, Benteke would not improve us drastically,

any strikers which are heading to chelsea aka Cavani & Costa or the ones that may head to Madrid, Aguero or Suarez would be the ideal players for our system, however they are about as remote as us winning the title this season.

Man utd have their strikers, and even if liverpool sell Suarez they have sturridge and will probably buy a wideman to integrate into their team, who knows even take benzema in a swap for Suarez, but that's unlikely knowing Liverpool value Suarez for 70mill plus and madrid will value Benzema for 40mill plus.

I do think the most ideal players for Arsenal out there are Josip Drmic, Circo Immobile, Alvaro Morata, Benzema and the damien of football Mario Balotelli.

Drmic, and Morata should be back up options or depth options for the multiple competitions.

Giroud should be sold, I do not believe he will offer much as an impact players. I do not think Mandzukic will offer anything different, he is playing with agruably a top 3 side in the world and has failed to do much against opposition having watched him lately.

I gather bayern don't cross much into the box but going by how we play he would not have a bigger impact.

Benzema has pace, quick on the turn, he can take his man and while he may not be the most clinical striker to the top dogs, in our system he would be the best we can get and a sure fire upgrade at the position.

Arsenal should look at getting Benzema, Di Maria and Khedira, relatively young, vastly experienced and they would have a good link up with out 42.5 mill signing.

however with the need to buy a RB and also a 3rd choice CB, and a Backup goalkeeper I expect Arsenal to buy a DM and second striker, leaving Giroud as the primary striker, mainly as wenger has too much faith in players to a fault.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Apr 2014 23:34:37
Sanchez from barca? Fast, likely available and can play wide or up top. Then laws bender to mop up the middle. All 'moderatley' priced 20-30mil range.

I think it was Rocky that mentioned about who descision was the Ozil signing. Personally, I believe it may have been the descision of the team upstairs. Arsene may have suggested something, but I believe it was upstairs that decided to test the water and put their hands in their pockets and spend big.
This is why it was so important that Ozil turned in a great performance this season. It needed to show to everybody concerned that things have changed and moved on. The days of Arsene buying a cheap top quality player and molding him into what you want are now unfortunately behind the times. Quality now costs!. So unless a club is prepared or can afford to buy big, then you are going to end up with what we have seen over the last few seasons in not having that little bit extra in pushing us over the line. You cannot expect in today's climate a striker that costs £12 million to perform like one that costs £70 million unless you found a genius and nobody has ever heard of him which is unlikely. Managers jobs are not easy today you are very much restricted to what your club can afford to put on the pitch. Basically making the best you can with the tools that's been provided. That's why as I said in a post ages ago I can't see the English Premier League and all the other top European leagues existing in their present forms within the next 15 years maybe sooner. The money has taken over there will be a permanent European league. The devide has become too great already.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I've been expecting it for 20 years GOLDBOY but nothing close to it so far thankfully, I think if or when t does come it will be Global rather than European when money really takes over there will be few boundaries and countries like America and China will want to be at the forefront of it controlling it from day one

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger will have made all decisions regarding the signing of Ozil, to think otherwise is simply wrong. It was an inspired signing, we had lost to Villa and had only signed Flamini on a free & one for the future in Sanogo. It lifted the spirit of the club and provided a challenge for the league, until injuries took hold. We have a good chance of winning the FA Cup & qualifying for the Champions League.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its easy to forget the lift the fans and players alike got when Mesut arrived, we all of a sudden believed everything was possible this season! would we be top 4 now if we hadn't signed him? I don't know.
I'm not saying he has done things single handedly because that's no where near true but his impact mentally as well as physically on the team is easy to under estimate

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it showed intent for me G62, that they were not scared to spend big money if the right target becomes available..

Its so easy 7 months on to forget just how big a deal it was when we signed Mesut Ozil Ed, I for one never thought it possible and remember pacing the floor and kicking the dog waiting for the TV to say it was a done deal, a few hours seemed like a month that night :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - leave the dog alone!..we are an animal friendly site G62, thats why we even let millwall supporters on.. :)

Its ok Ed it wasn't my dog, it was next doors I just borrowed it for the evening for the kids sakes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gold

Yes I made a suggestion from reading another article that the decision may not have been solely Wengers.
Yes he would have said he wanted the player. Would be daft not to.
But considering the circumstances, off the back of the villa result on day 1, the fans reaction to Wenger and the fact it was all done pretty quickly in the last 24/48 hours of the window.
It's not an unfeasable option that the board took control of the money side.

I appreciate people's views on here who say that Wenger deals with every aspect. But this is SO un Wenger like. I'm not complaining because finally we have signed a true World class player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed025. You summed that up perfectly mate. "It showed intent" exactly that. It needed someone to step up to the plate and say " You know what? it's about time we stopped pussy footing about and started to look serious for a change". I agree with Rocky too Wenger made a suggestion but I believe if he had been pulling the money up the deal wouldn't have happened. It was completely unknown territory for us that sort of money. Somebody had to have said " let's do it"

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you never know goldie, it could just be the start of a new chapter in the history of AFC, where all the big players out there are sought after by the gunners whatever the cost!, with the stadium paid for the kitty is limitless, and the likes of falcao, and cavani are waiting with baited breath for the phone to ring with an offer from arsene?..or are we just dreaming mate?.. :)

A reason I would say this is possible is that Wenger WILL leave eventually., most likely in 2 years time. So it would seem sensible that sooner or later that certain powers are taken from Wenger.
The club won't sit still for 2 years and have no foundation beyond Wengers term. At that point players like Ozil ( if still at the club ) will be hitting the prime of his career. So we can't afford to negotiate the Wenger way any more.
If it goes back to the old way of " we low ball " every deal then you will know the Ozil deal was a pure fans pressure deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with all of the above.

For me, the annoying thing is, I believe we are 1 or 2 players short of being able to win the Prem League and go further in the CL.

Ok, I'm not talking about average players. You buy average players you become an average team.
I'm talking top top players. You buy world class players than you become a world class team.

As Ed025 rightly said, we have the money, so spend it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed025. Hope you are right mate. There is no harm in dreaming. Sometimes the dreams come true.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - mine dont...jenny has not been on for ages.. :)

Bearing mind Fabianski is off this summer, would you play him or Szczesny in the FA Cup final?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fabianski has earned the right to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - play you best side for me G95, that means the bench for fabianski unfortunately, its all about winning, not sentiment mate..

Agree with Ed025 (again), play your best team and always play to win, whatever tactics you have to employ.

Can you imagine how bad it'd be if we lost this final? Everyone wrote off Birmingham a few years ago in the Carling Cup Final. We underestimate Hull at our peril.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it happened to everton in the cup sad face, we played robles in goal instead of howard, and the defenders were not sure what he was going to do..big mistake mate..

Right now, I'd trust Fabianski more. (touches wood)
