Let's take a step back, will we. All this Giroud criticism is honestly unwarranted. He played a hell of a game today. No he's not the best striker in the world. But since he's come to Arsenal, he's more often than not converted for us.

Ozil played a good match as well today. He created chances, was a stud off free kicks and really showed a lot of composure. He's never going to be a Coquelin, or a Flamini, or even a Ramsey on the defensive side of things, but he played a good, solid, offensive game - something he hasn't really been able to do a whole lot this year. If this is his form for the rest of the season, we'll be better off for it.

The fact is, we were done after the first leg. All the optimism entering the second leg was just that - optimism. You can't expect Arsenal to come out and take back three from the best defensive side in the Champions League. Yes, Monaco had an easy group draw, and yes they we're big underdogs despite winning their group. But they were disciplined, and Arsenal weren't that first leg. And that burned us. Badly.

But the point is, we played hard. We played smart. Defensively, we weren't threatened. Offensively we pressed. Our final ball was off, and it wasn't from one player in particular. If anything, Sanchez didn't make the difference he needed to. But it was near impossible for a player like Sanchez to play his game with 10 players behind the ball on Monaco's side of the pitch. Similarly, once we scored that second goal, Walcott was deemed useless. What we needed was another big presence (dare I say it - a Sanogo) off the bench. And we didn't have it. And therefore, we couldn't break the aggregate deadlock.

We played a good game. But a sloppy first leg killed us, as we assumed it would. No one is at fault this time around. Let's hang our hats that this won't kill any momentum in the league, or the FA cup going forward.

Hold your heads up high and stand behind the team, Gooners. We played well. But not well enough to warrant, quite frankly, a miracle.

Cheers,

Very good post.

After a poor early season, we are playing well, scoring goals, not conceding, looking good for top 4 and in semi's of FA Cup.

Nice to see a good positive post.

You had me at Sanogo, really! Everything else I agree with.
