Apparantly in for Cabaye. Maybe not the world class player I hoped for, but a very good addition and someone who could improve amongst better players and with Wenger as manager. Would like to see him and Williams wrapped up before the weekend if possible, not necessarily to play but for the morale boost the club as a whole needs.

Green Dream

1.) Newcastle have all ready rejected it! It will be the case of 4-5 bids between now an the window closing an then last day panic buys, article doeant say Newcastles valuation but just says arsenal offered 10mil. so value will most prob be about 13-15mil. all that cash reserve, we can buy player out right right now where 95% of other clubs have to pay in installments an still we going to pussy foot around an try an save momey

Is there a clause in the Arsenal constitution that 75% of our players must be French or french speaking?

Don't shoot me but I think that bendtner as a lone forward surrounded by carzorla, ozil, Walcott and Wiltshire could do the business. I think he suffers by comparison to RSVP etc, but always played out of position.

Give him a chance, he has the talent.

Predictive text gets players names wrong

Green Dream

1.) Bang, bang bang, ffs if I made a statement like that I'd shoot myself

so if rumours to be believed - Ozil/Viviano and Ba. (i am ignoring Di Maria - don't se eit at all). So transfer window closes and we have covered the following positions with adaptable players -
2nd keeper
defensive mid/full back (sagna 4th centre back)
All positions across midfield
acceptable first choice cover up front, and additional young wildcard.

i would be happy with that. I think Flamini is underrated but exactly what we needed. Sagna has proven a solid centre back behind 3 top players. Ozil adds another touch of class, and at 24 would still be worth a packet in 3/4 years if he ever left. Having Cazorla/Wilshire and Ozil as midfield options is great. Ba is a proven, solid centre forward who won't dissapoint and means like for like with Giroud rather than a whole game plan change.

My biggest concern is how important Walcott is to us, with his pace and directness.

Apart from that, good job Arsene.

Rumours Flamini signs on the line today.

In my opinion, a very shrewd signing. On a free, versatile, has a nasty streak, experienced, fit as a fiddle and hounds players. As a shield in front of the back 4 next to Wilshire/Ramsay and Carzorla he will prove a very good squad player.

Many will be dissapointed, but call him a different name, stick a 10m price tag on and the same people would be boasting of a huge signing.

Green Dream

1.) I for one welcome him back with open arms. welcome back mr flamini, your grit and gile will be much needed this season.

@ Green Dream. I respect your support for the club. To make things clear, I am not supporting tottenham's signings or comparing them to Arsenal. But they are trying to build a squad with depth. Come January and february where the business end of the season starts, it's the depth in squad that will see us through. Our current set of 16 are not mechanical Robots who will not be affected by fatigue or injuries. Surely Wenger can see that when people like us can. Even we will continue to support our club but it's not going in th right direction and that's sad.
Obviously we do not have the money like Chelsea/City do. but those people make 3-5 high profile signings every year. We can surely manage 1-2 after 8 years right? Players who will put a little fear in the opposition and help us challenge for honors. And we are only saying this because Gazidis came out talked about 70m warchests and signing Rooney and more than that. We haven't had dreams about all this. Not a single million has been spent.
It's layman knowledge you first sign players and then let players leave. tottenham, Madrid everyone knows how it works. Why the hell did he sell 17 players and now we are stuck and dependent if other teams will sell to us.

2 reasons that I could think of Players not wanting Arsenal anymore :
1) the stupid wage structure. Good players are padi double and triple the wages at other clubs.
2) Arsenal have clearly not shown ambition to win trophies - something which professional footballers dream of since they are kids. (Most recent proof - celebrating the fourth place and Wenger saying - Fourth place is a trophy for us)

Sand and distraught state our club is in.

3.) Too bad, we need players so badly hence the welcome to flamini. I think he is the same player who dumped Arsenal for Money and Milan

4.) Shrewd?

Lazy, arrogant, corwardly, but. definitely not shrewd.

Flamini is a player who walked out of this team much like RVP. He had one good season with us 5 YEARS AGO and never EVER reached that form again.

Fit as a fiddle. you mean the player who has been CHRONICALLY INJURY PRONE SINCE LEAVING THE CLUB!

5.) Played average of 25 games a seaon at Milan over 5 years, including a full season out. Ok, get your point, but currently fit as a fiddle.

Not sure where arrogant comes into it.

He had a couple of good seasons - played great at left back in 06 in run to cl final, only to be dropped for Cole in final, then looke dthe business as a central mid the following 2 seasons.

Di Maria and Benezema - why it could happen.

Real have spent a fortune this summer already - approx 56mm on centre midfield (Isco/Irramendi(?)) and will buy Bale for a small fortune. They need to balance books to an extent, as this spending is excessive even by their standards. With their 3 centre mid positions taken (throw in Alonso/Khediera/Modric/kaka and Ozil) that leaves the 3 attacking positions - Ronaldo/Bale and 1 other. Morata is the bright young thing in Spain, Jesse can play a few games and that leaves room for 1 more top striker - currently the unloved Benezema. Real swap Suarez for him, and the fans are happy and they have upgraded.

I still have my doubts, but it makes far more sense than some of the other players we have been limnked too.

Bailey -
good response - but i'd say that it backs up that at an outlay of 90mm they have a midfielder that's not played in europe but has good potential, a back up winger (prob not a lot better than Miyachi who would go for similar price if he were plying his trade for a european minnow) and the latest next Ronaldo. Not trying to be awkward, but being linked means little if money is not on the table for Erikssen.

I just think that they have made many squad buys, and who knows, they may all become great players, but I for one am not hitting the panic button yet. Only bit of flair or skill is in Lamela/Erikssen and i'd say there are huge question marks over both of those.

Not sure you can call him rubbish Lakerville. Maybe not quite the Higuan/Suarez we hoped, but a very good Giroud back up.

Looking at there players though, how many would you really have wanted to sign?
Paulinho - unproven but possibly
Capoue - Squad player
Chadli - Wenger would have been slaughtered for spending on an unproven kid
Soldado - 28 and 26mm quid? no way
Lamela - never seen him play, but that's a lot for a 21 year old.
Erikssen - looked the nuts a couple of years ago, but no champs league team has come in for the last year and a half, must tell you something. May prove good, still a gamble. Better than Rosicky/Carzorla? Nope!

So looking at there signings, they have a deeper squad (bar center forward) but not necessarilty the quality we have. Throw in that they lost there 32 goal top scorer and assister from last year and I don't see what people are worried about.

We are bnetter still now, and with a couple of signings (i am still keeping the faith!) we will only improve.

Nick - you are correct, we have no devine right to finish above Spurs.

What we do have is a team, manager and infastructure that continually produces results. Not league winning results, but top 4 results. that's not good enough in general, but for the purpose of this discussion is.

People are getting overexcited by Spurs purchases, as I mentioned earlier. They have filled there squad, but not necessarily strengthened their 1st team. Additionally, I wouldn't call any of their signings at this stage great. Potential yes, but how many of the players they signed would get a game at Manu, city or Chelsea? Or us for that matter? Are Capoue or Paulinho better than Wilshire/Rosicky/Arteta? not in my eyes for the system we play. Soldado or Giroud? Close but again I go for the Gooner. Lamela is a wild card, expensive at that, so who knows what he will be like.

Sure we have lacked signings, still time for that to be rectified. let's leave the knee jerking for Sept 3rd and then assess again hey.

Roll on Sunday - I see nothing but a Walcott inspired win.

Ed022 - time will tell if they are stronger - that's a lot of players to fit into a new system, that's a lot of goals and assists to replace. An injury to Soldado (the penalty king) means they are down to Defoe or Adebayor again, and they relied on Townsend to get them out of jail so far this year.

Deeper squad, but not necessarily quality.

{Ed022's Note - We are a few more injuries from a crisis ourselves so let's not get ahead of ourselves. Giroud gets injured and Podolski is already injured then who plays up front? Walcott? Who plays on the left and right? Chamberlain's injured. Cazorla would be wasted out on the wing. Who else is there?}

I support the club because I always have and always will. Benn through worse "slumps" than this, and no doubt will do again.
Been through numerous managers from Terry Neil, different Chairman, different chief execs. Makes no difference, i'll support them all.

To address a couple of your points - Spurs have not bought any special talents - in fact i'd struggle to get any of there purchases into our first team (Paulinho being the only one that I defer judgement on). that's approx 90mm on players tha don't immediately strengthen OUR team. Chelsea/Man City and others are different, they have bottomless pits of finances, we don't - it's simple.

Still days left to go in transfer window - let's wait and see what comes off before writing us off. Remember Anfield '89? its not over till the fat lady sings.

keep the faith!

Ed022 - was thinking more that rumour of suarez bid hitting 50mm and then a defensive mid at 17-23mm (gustavo or fellaini) and suddenly we are at the 70mm without signing the world class players that we all dreamed that money could get.
