Just wondering from Arsenal fans if they are happy or not to be out of the league cup?

I can see it both ways. It means you can now concentrate on CL and PL and the FA Cup in the new year. however just pushing a cup competition to the side isn't really the mentality you would want to install into the players, right?

I also feel Arsenal are lacking in a true leader. A Tony Adams or a Patrick Viera. I feel that is the one thing that Arsenal need more than anything.

On the plus, you're looking good in the League, but this is going to be a defining month on your season I feel, in all competitions.

If you're just going to post sarcastic or stupid responses, don't bother.

This post is meant to be a start of a discussion. not a "we're better than you" slagging match that I expect to hear on the School playground.

SpursDave

1.) Takes a lot of balls to go onto a rivals page, especially ours and start a proper conversation, I'm kinda happy we are out because we can concentrate on the big cups.

Would be good if teams in European competitions couldn't compete in the capital one cup, neither us or Chelsea played our first XI and we have just under a week to rest for the Liverpool match so I don't think we truly care about the capital one cup.

And the true leader thing I think is true at the moment, but I can see a leader in Ramsey and wilshere.

And just so you know, we are better than you.

2.) Good post mate. I won't pretend I'm glad we got knocked out, particularly losing to Chelsea. But I do see those positives. Yesterday highlighted a couple of problems, and it was worth getting knocked out of the least important competition if we learn from them. We do kind of need to win something this year - Prem may be a step too far given our squad is not as broad as City's or Chelsea's, but we can give it a good go. I am quite confident we will be in the top 3 anyway. CL is also very difficult of course. I am keeping quietly hopeful about the FA cup, as I reckon our first team can beat anyone on our day.

The leadership issue is interesting. I think Vermaelan has a strong character, Mertesacker is a good organiser and Arteta has elements of both mixed with experience. Flamini also makes a difference to the team, organises well and kicks people into shape. We do have strong leadership within the squad but not the 'one leader above all' that we always used to. Hard to tell if that is a major issue or not?

The next few games will certainly be a test, and I can't wait to play Liverpool on Saturday. It will be an interesting game because if either side wins then it shows that they are serious contenders, not just riding early-season luck. If Arteta and the back 4 put in a battling performance, I think we could well take the win. This will also be a big factor against Dortmund and United. Even with injuries our attack is very strong - it will take good defensive resolve to show that we're a real force.

Initially your always going to be p*ssed off, A) because I don't like my team losing and, B) because we lost to chelsea. However the reason I'm more p*ssed off then usual is because it was a reminder of the main reason we won't win anything this year. Our squad isn't big enough.
Before the whirlwind of signing zil we were talking about needing to sign 4-5 players all of quality. We made two, 1 world class player and one that is doing a world class job. They've done really well for us up to now, but we are still short it certain positions. I sent a post stating we were seriously missing POWER. What I would give for an Adams or a Viera. I'd be quite prepared to degrade myself for a Keown and a Gilberto. That's not even mentioning a top class Striker, Winger, and a R.B.
Lastly I'm really starting to worry about us mentally when it comes to the really big games. Chelsea always do us these days, and with Liverpools game the weekend it's so important we don't lose. We are getting there, but we need to push with some more quality signings. If we were to lose that game then the zil high will soon turn in to as it was before. I'd snap your hand off for third.
I'll tell you how bad I felt last night, and a large number of gooners will relise how bad this is. I thought to myself, "I'd even have Gervinio on the pitch." That was dark. Gnabry looks promising but has played one game too many which is precisely one and picked up a knock. Marvellous!
I'm stopping there, my black dog's wagging his tale. Nothing a win on Saturday won't cure.

4.) Not happy but at the same time it takes some fixtures off our hands. i'd rather get knocked out now if we wasnt going to win it rather than getting to the final for example and losing there.

5.) Flamini has been a great leader for us so far this season.
As I've said before, for me, the league cup is about finding out if players can make it or not. Been out of the league cup means, we are not going to get a big pile up of fixtures come January/February time. So yes I'm happy to be out of it.

6.) We are better than you though look at the league and what european cup we are in, just kidding mate. I couldn't care less about the league cup but it would've been nice to beat chelsea

7.) 30 Oct 2013 18:21:49
OK,

Not a good result, but come on. C 1 Cup, FA Cup, CL or Prem L.

If we really wanted to win it we would play a first rate team. At the end of the day we were buying a raffle ticket and it didn't happen.

Down sides from last night were that we need some width and then someone who can whip in a cross or two. We kept knocking balls in to make nice little triangles, but no one wanted to have a shot or it ended up going further back than when we started.

We were weak on the right side and up front, but to say we were outplayed. Bllks. Unfortunately when we lost the ball it was too easy for them to counter. One bad mistake gave them the platform and just when we were turning the screw a little a great goal knocked the stuffing out of us.

At the end of the day we will not win everything so let's win the games that matter?

8.) Good post Dave and fair question to pose.
For me its where we finish it and the league that matters most, I'd rather be top two and no league or fa cup than 4th with both.

I want to be in the running come may for the tittle even if we don't win it, because from that we can build greatness again.
CL I think will Be a good distraction from the league so the further we go the better.

Oh will the doom and gloom crowd just cop the **** on, we put out a mixture of youth and players coming back from injury who also never play together, your like pechulant little children who throw there toys out of the pram after a loss, yes I had a moan after the dortmund game but all I said is we need a rb.

Last night showed me that our first team has the skill to beat chelsea, there first choice team is not much better than the one last night and ours is 10 times better, calm down and have a breather we will do the buisness on Saturday evening just you wait.

10.) Not too bothered about carling cup to be honest. Chelsea and Man City are still in it and they have a much bigger squad than us. Also, Spurs and Manchester United still there so I don't think we would have won it.
We all know we don't have the strongest squad and I think the extra games would have stretched us too much. Also, knowing our luck we would have probably picked up a few extra injuries along the way. Concentrate on champs league and the prem. That said, yes of course, would have loved to have won it but don't think we would have.
As for a leader on the pitch? Well, we don't have a 'roll up ya sleeves Tony Adams' type of captain but Flamini and Mertesacker could do the job.

Spurs fan in peace.

Just wanted a grown up discussion/banter as I have quite a serious question regarding the purchase of Ozil.

Yes he's world class and yes of course he'll improve Arsenal's squad.

But was Wenger + the board foolish to spend all that money on just one player, rather than improve and add multiple players to what is already a squad lacking depth and experience?

Just wanted the know your views!

SpursDave

1.) I think if a player Ozil comes along and you can sign him you would be mad not to and your fans would be extremely mad if you could have and didn't. I know what your saying about depth but really feel with the club showing ambition again we will see the whole squad lift their game and that can only be good . more effort, more belief extra special quality = more points =?

2.) SpursDave, hopefully not. yes we could do with strenghtening in other positions however, although flamini wasnt everybodys first choice, mainly because he was on a free, the majority of us thinks he will do a decent job sitting in front of back 4, as i'm sure you saw against your lot lol. plus, vermaelen should be back soon, koscielny and mertesacker seem to have quite a good understanding. if we have to we could even play bacary sagna or flamini at centre half, I repeat, if we have to.
our midfield is very very strong, arguably the best in the prem and they can interlink and swap roles if they have to. eg cazorla in central mid and ozil out wide and vice versa. we also have arteta to return soon and in about 6 weeks time chamberlain.
yes, a bit short upfront. if giroud gets injured I might even get a game, however we have recalled super niklas bendtner to the squad and you never know he might bang in a few if giroud was out. another option is, or should I saw was, podolski but unfortunately he's out for 2 months but again, if we have to we have the option of playing walcott upfront, although I don't rate him as a lone striker and he's far too good out on right wing, one of the best in the world in my opinion. would have minded demba ba but mourinho wouldn't loan him to us. pesonally speaking, and I know this is almost a hanging offence I wouldn't have minded taken your little man on loan for the season (defoe), very good player and always a threat up front.
anyways, these are just my opinions, some others on here might agree or disagree.

3.) How did it work out for you lot?

4.) Hi SpursDave .

I'm not being funny with my reply but when you consider the players Arsenal had out against Spurs and add Ozill to the Squad you could say Arsenal to have some depth.

5.) Well the best person to answer that question is you really. You've just sold the most expensive player in the world and you've bought different players in in all positions but you still got beat by us with supposedly a weak squad. So probably the answer to your question at this point is NO.

Lol you Gooners need to calm down.

It's only the first game!

On the other hand, it's comedy gold.

And the Drog strikes again. twice ;)

Cannot beat a bit of Drogba antics in the penalty box!

On a more serious note. he made Mertesacker look absolutely useless.

Toot toot :) {Ed027's Note - Galatasary are a CL side whereas Monaco

SpursDave

1.) Well said Ed, seems like 5-2 is becoming a regular result for you guys Dave ;) DIgunner
