Arteta has apparently signed a 1 year deal?

He may be a nice bloke but unfortunately he is a mediocre defensive midfielder. if arsenal are to move to the next level these are positions that have to be improved. He's just average at everything - aside 5 yard passes and penalties.

I tend to agree, I'm not sure I see any positives

A tad harsh.

He was a terrific player at Everton.

More of an attacking mid, even à Number 10.

At Arsenal, due to our surplus of AM's, Wenger dropped him deep, more of a DM.

Arteta sacrificed his normal game for the development of the team.

Granted, not the best DM in the world, but always gives his best, never complains and is a good Captain, who has always been respected by his team mates.

Yes, we need a younger, fitter more dynamic DM, but let's give Arteta the respect he deserves.

Totally agree Dags as a DM Arteta makes an excellent king emperor penguin but that's not his fault its Arsenes.
He's done the job he was asked to do to the best of his ability and dispite being fairly useless at it never complain or gave less than his albeit inadequate best in this position.
Arsene tried to make him something he wasn't or could never be and its only Arsene's stubbornness that made Artetta and Arsenal less than they could have been for so many years trying to prove himself right all along.
Arsene has done far more good than bad for Arsenal football club and only a fool would argue against that but his stubbornness over the years has made sure many of those mistakes will be remembered every bit as much as his fantastic achievements, shame but true

Sorry, don't get me wrong, I think Arteta has done well for us and as you guys say he has sacrificed his normal game.
I definetly don't mean to be disrespectful, I just think he will be a step back if he plays

Agree G62.

It's OK DavidE, we know you didn't mean any disrespect, you just called it as you saw it, and that's fair mate.
