ssn reporting that an Arsenal "insider" has stated that we have pulled out of the race to sign Loic Remy. No bid made apparently, only interest.

journalist claiming tonight that Giroud is out for three months with broken foot.
If this is the case we need an experienced striker signing a.s.a.p.

£15 million from Barcelona for TV5 sounds very appealing, but is there any guarantee he will pass the inevitable stringent medical given his injury record in the last two years?

smartie1947

1.) I think he will pass a medical, but he never looked the same player after his achilles ops. Assuming the deal goes through, £15m for a player that hasn't shown top form and in the last year of his contract, isn't bad, but we must replace him with a better player. Assuming we do, we still look one player short in defence. I do not believe Bellerin, Hayden or Miquel are ready to play in the first team. Bellerin & Hayden need a season on loan in the Championship. Miquel concerns me, as to whether he will ever make the first team. I am a bit concerned at writing off young centre backs, as they tend to mature later.

The only 2 players getting linked consistently with Arsenal tonight are Di Maria and Ozil.
Whilst I accept both are good players, they don't appear to play in the positions we most need to fill.
Furthermore it would seem both will be forced out of Real Madrid against their wishes.
I such circumstances it seems an utter waste of £50-£60 million in fees and perhaps £15 million pa in wages for 2 players whose hearts are unlikely to be at Arsenal.
Personally I would much prefer cheaper alternatives who may give more to the team in the long term.

smartie1947

1.) This isn't a smart post. look at the positions we need to strengthen. its everywhere on the pitch. i'm guessing you think we need it up front, I say your wrong, we have 4 players who can play there and then akpom. wings we literally only have walcott now and cazorla who is better in the middle so yes ozil and di maria are much needed indeed, I would say if we sign them both and benzema we might be ok but are still short at the back and we still need a big boy DM.

Monaco have apparently bid 13 million euros for Kondogbia.
With their tax status now in dispute, even their megabuck bids are not guaranteed to attract players unwilling to suffer swingeing 75% top rates of tax.
Time to put the DFM problem to bed Arsene

smartie1947

1.) Sevilla in for Mbia which could be an indicator they are willing to sell.

2.) Oh how I hope more than anything this does happen and you are so right, kondoggers will definately put the dm problem to bed. I wonder if there is anyway we can get through to wenger and tell him to just PAY THE MONEY. he still owes me from flirting with the mvila deal which I wanted to happen so bad.

I'm confused.
There's supposed to be a problem re Elneny getting a work permit. He has approx. 40 caps for Egypt, but they are 57th in current FIFA rankings, with only the top 50 and EU countries fulfilling the current qualification requirements.
On the other hand it is reported tonight that Grujic has joined Liverpool from Red Star Belgrade of Serbia and received a permit. Yet he has no caps for his country, which are currently 56th in the FIFAS rankings and Serbia are not in the EU at present.
Can anyone explain?

smartie1947

{Ed002's Note - Firstly you cannot compare the two directly. The rules have changed to a points based system and the wages being paid come in to play. Liverpool are significantly over paying Grujic - Arsenal will need to put a case together that shows Elneny meets the criteria. I would not expect any issue at all.}

The work permit rule has always amazed me. Footballers come in and get paid well. They don't claim benefits and we get a lot of tax from them

The deal will go through though anyway.

I read a recent article on players' contracts, which suggested Flamini's deal expired on 30/6/15.
Can anyone shed any light on his current situation?
At a wage estimated to be £65K per week, there is potentially another £3.4 million which can be saved from the wage bill, as I see him playing little part this season and his contribution in the last 3 months of last season was poor.

smartie1947

{Ed002's Note - A one year extension.}

11 Dec 2014 22:23:58
Despite Ed002's reservations, the rumours about Lucas Silva joining in January persist.
Does anyone know precise chapter and verse on the work permit position?

smartie1947

{Ed002's Note - There is no work permit situation - he won't be joining Arsenal.}

1.) From what I've seen from credible journalists he is pretty much already a Madrid player.

2.) Iv heard we are willing to match the 12 million pound fee which other clubs wont. iv never seen him play tho.

With Alderweireld and Mane both having medicals at Southampton, is there still a chance for Schneiderlin?

If there is one thing worse than realising that Arsenal aren't going to sign any new players tonight, it's Jim Whyte confirming it.

The definitive answer to whether we have made a late bid for Carvalho, may come if he plays (or not) in tomorrow night's match against Benfica - BT Sport 2 @19.00.
A no-show might mean a late bid.

I might agree if I knew why he failed a medical at Liverpool.

I'm sure Sporting Lisbon would jump at the chance of the loan of Abou Diaby for the next 12 months. About the time it will take him to be fit again!

If Real Madrid don't want to take a loss on Khedira, why should Arsenal bail them out. Far better to wait a year then take our chances against other suiters. That said next summer Khedira will be a stick-on for a move to Bayern Munich, that's why they are not making any attempt to sign him this season.

Several sites suggesting transfer is being delayed until after Wednesday to ensure C.L. qualification is secure. If there is a modicum of truth in that it defies logic. Does anyone believe we can play a whole season, with or without C.L., with 2 recognised central defenders and an inexperienced full-back as cover. Manolas should have been signed before Vermaelen was allowed to leave. Instead we have fannied around for 2-3 weeks and may let Man U pinch him from under our noses. Penny-pinching gone mad.

No newspaper seems to mention that Barca are on a transfer ban for the whole of 2015.

Whilst I respect your view Lakerville, it does little to reassure me. This potential transfer is taking far too long. Wenger has known for weeks that Khedira's age, fitness and wage demands made him a non-starter. Serious pursuit of Carvalho could have started in mid-July.
Has anyone else noticed how much more quickly we secured Debouchy, Chambers and Sanchez when Wenger was in Brazil.

If Chelsea's transfer policy is so wonderful, can anyone explain them selling Matic as a £4 million makeweight in the David Luis transfer to Benfica, only to buy him back again for £21million 18 months later.

Think back to how uninspiring Germany were against Algeria and France and don't be swayed too much by their performance against an abysmal display by Brazil. The final will be a tight affair with Argentina' defence keeping a firm grip and one flash of Messi might be sufficient
