Stephenbristow,

In reply to your post.

Yep, would love Charlie Austin at Arsenal.

Hear me out..

We won't get Benzema.
We won't get Higuain.
We won't get Lacazette.
We won't get Pedro.
We can't get Martinez.

We don't want Mandzukic.
We don't need Llorente.

All the top strikers are either unobtainable or attached.

Now, I know Charlie is not high profile, probably because he is English, but he is a damn fine striker with a damn fine pedigree.

He is a proper English No.9.
I'm not saying he is a Lineker or a Shearer, but given the opportunity, he could be a Lineker or a Shearer.

He gives 100%, runs around all day, plays down the middle but runs the lines if he has to, normally plays off the shoulder of the defender and is a proper 'in the box' striker.

18 goals last season playing for a pi55 poor team, with very little service, who got relegated.

He would be happy to bide his time and come off the bench to cover for Giroud if he is playing poorly/suspended/injured.

He is the perfect foil for Giroud and could (I repeat could) do a good job up top on his own, or even with Giroud if we are chasing the game.

He offers us something different to Olly, which will make us less predictable and gives us a much needed plan B.

Trust, he would love to join Arsenal and is an absolute steal at £15m.

All summer I have been thinking the same thing.

Well, I'm convinced. You know it's not going to be a good day when you agree with Dags' post first thing in the morning.

No thanks.....
I would rather persevere with the forward options we already have at our disposal.
Giroud, Welbeck, Walcott & Akpom, can all fill the central striker role. Austini is a mid to lower premiership player. Look what happened when Lambert joined Liverpool..... Clearly not good enough.

You don't need to convince me dags. I bet there was fans who said 20 odd years ago "who's this muppet were buying from palace" Austin in!

Robbie,

Lambert is a bad example.
He joined Liverpool 32 years of age and in twilight of his career.

I'm with you dags and even if you manage to convince people on here how will you convince Mr wenger

Here is my argument dags.

Giroud is better than Charlie Austin.

We have Walcott and welbeck who can cover so we do not need Charlie as backup.

If arsenal are interested in buying a striker, I want him to be the undisputed no1 and that means giroud is our backup and with such a conundrum it can be nothing but good for arsenal.

im not saying Charlie Austin won't deliver goals. but he is not clinical, and to win the epl we need clinical.

besides to progress in the champions league you need players who are aware of the difference between domestic campaigns and European competitions, as an example I give you west ham.

a very good premier league side, with no experience in Europe, who got in via the fair play rules and have now racked up 5? red cards?

you need smart players at the next level not just physical and technical, and for me Charlie Austin would be a great striker for Newcastle or west brom and west ham, but for a top 4 club he would be nothing more than the 3rd best player.

FACT.

It's a hard one to accurately sum up. He gets the ball in the area and he puts it away, he has tidy feet and is strong. He has scored lots of goals but if he never gets a chance in a big team we will never know.

Thing is, Charlie Austin is a good striker for a club where he's one of, if not the key players.
I'm pretty certain that if Austin moved to a bigger club, we'd have a Andy Carroll situation where he'd just flop and be shipped out to another club in a season or 2.

I agree with Laker here, if we're going to sign a striker, it has to be an undisputed first choice player, or don't bother.

Giroud is better than austin, Walcott will be a decent striker if he stays fit too, i reckon.
Welbeck played most of his games out wide for us, i really want to see him given more time as a striker too.

At the end of the day, if it's back up you want, we've got Walcott, Welbeck, Akpom and Alexis who can all play up top.

I get what you're saying about the 'old fashioned english centre forward', but Arsenal are probably the least 'old fashioned' club in the prem!

It's great being a workhorse, but at any top level club, you need a stand out point, that separates you from the rest.

I agree there aren't many top level strikers out there, but if we truly can't pick up someone in the ilk of Benzema, Lewandowski or even (debatable) Lacazette, then, as frustrating as it is to say we should just focus on other areas and come back to a striker next year

What about the Munich striker the polish guy

I still think signing welbeck ahead of remy for more cash was crazy

Fags love you to bits but Austin isn't that level mate. Hel do a job for teams outside top 6 tho

We are struggling for targets lewandowski would be epic as would benzema. I live in hope.

Enjoy weekend all

i would want a first choice striker to come in and giroud to be great second choice, but dags makes a good point if none of the top strikers are available ausin would offer good back up at a reasonable price. in his 1st season in the PL he got 18 in a rubbish side. girouds best is 16, alexis best is 16, walcott got 14 once, santi got 12 once, ramsey got 10 once and welbeck got 9 twice while all playing with better players and getting better service. he would be a safer bet than when we bought giroud or welbeck

Lakeville,

How can you end your post with the word FACT?

None of what you posted is fact, just your opinion, which I respect but totally disagree with.

{Ed025's Note - your jokes are terrible..FACT.. :)
