There was a conversation on the rumour page about Bellerin in which Max Farnham reminded me of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and how he could maybe step up on that right hand side as a wing back.

Well congrats to him because he's just helped England U20's get to the World Cup Final.

On the same thread Fatdave was saying why are people so hung up on fees being paid on installments.
On the subject of installments surely it would be better for everyone if all fees had to be paid upfront as this would stop clubs spending money they can't or may not be able to afford in the future meaning transfer fees would fall dramatically enabling clubs to give the fans a better ticket price, 100 million for a player is crazy money even if you have the cash but it's plain stupid money if you haven't.
Didn't Portsmouths problems start when they couldn't meet their transfer payment installment commitments?

Without banging my own drum (much nicer if someone else does it for you) I have been going on a lot lately how I think Maitland-Niles and Rene- Adelaide should not be loaned out but instead need to stay and get closer to the first 11. I certainly don't want to see us sign any journeymen to fill up the squad and push them further down the pecking order. Mainland-Niles can play CM and had a good game in that position against Southampton. For me that should be the end of Wilshire at our club, as he should be shipped on to allow Maitland-Niles to take his place in the squad.

I'm just guessing, but paying by instalments probably has interest attached.
Example, paying £20m as a one off costs £20m, but paying over 3 years probably costs about £24m.

I may be wrong though.

Epping you're right you have and apologies I didn't give you a mention 😉👍🏼

I think the instalment thing is something we have over other clubs as we have the wedge and could either pay outright or use a much bigger 1st instalment which is a big benefit to some clubs.
