Talking to a mate about possible strikers and all he was talking about is 'style of play'. Our most successful arsenal teams have almost always had a poacher or someone who can get in behind a defence. When Vardy was touted, a lot people thought he didn't match our 'style of play'. Giroud is a target man, a decent one. Before Giroud I couldn't tell you the last time we had a target man as our no.1 striker. (Adebayor doesn't count as he had pace to get in behind) Even then we don't play to Giroud strength, we hardly cross or bombard the box. So what relevance is style of play when we buy a player? And what exactly is out style of play? interested to know what you guys think. Cheers.

Really there's only two types of striker, a poacher and a striker that can get in behind you will find that strikers will fit into either of those catagories unless there amazing and can do both.

Or if they are a crap poacher they get classed as novelty target men.

I just read your first reply Sango and was just about to ask where Olly fitted in those two categories mate :-)

Giroud is a poacher but he doesn't score a poachers pocket so gets called a target man.

Why are we so scared of change?!?!?! The amount of times I see people comparing the managerial change to a potential Chelsea/ Utd slide, even Fulham I just read. Why not compare to Liecester after sacking Pearson who guided them to that remarkable survival last year? Where are they today? Also people saying there are only 2/ 3 managers out there. lol. That is as insulting as when Wenger says there are no players. There are some excellent managers out there, accross Europe doing wonderful jobs, and with new ideas and new belief, if players buy into his methods, like Poch or Ranieri, it is a recipe likely for success. Arsene Wenger was certainly a risk when we hired him. Our club is stale, the tactics, the football, transfer policy, everything. Add that to Wenger character flaws of stubborn and arrogance it's no wonder we have stagnated. What hurts me most is Wenger has been an absolutely amazing servant to the club, I'm so frustrated he put his faith in Giroud and didn't by a cf. I think we could do with a few more bodies, but if we had a prolific goalscorer we would've won this league. This would've have been a excellent way to see off our greatest manager to date. Sadly groundhog day resumes.

If your talking about being part of a competition for 17 years as an achievement, that is no ambition whatsoever. We must be the only club who has this mindset.

Seems as though you are settling for our current mediocre state. I am much more ambitious. This season is vital for this club. The smaller clubs are catching up and the bigger clubs are strengthening further. We will be in a very scary position if we don't add to our squad, especially with the inevitable in season injuries.

Who is our first team right winger?
And u believe Walcott and Ox should be infront of Campbell in the pecking order?
I feel so sorry for the kid, he plays well he is dropped. He can't win. If good performances don't get a run in the team what will?

Not with Arsenal mate, Arsene looks the other way when he's told that rather than putting a tempting offer on the table.

Xhaka is a captain, although I doubt he will have the captaincy so prematurely, he will lead regardless.
