The saga has finally ended time to buy a quality replacement,come on wenger.

Let wait and see,but for me i dont expect world class i expect a village class and later to become a super class,

Ed,

Who do you think we will sign, because loads of people put crap about Benzema, Hazard which wont happen. I think we will sign Dann and Jadsen. With Nasri going but not Cesc as Wenger is in no rush to sell and Barca are in no rush to buy and also have no money.

Cheers, Paddy.

{Ed022's Note - Hey Paddy, yeah a lot of people are suggesting Benzema, Mata, Hazard etc... but I think people need to realise it would be highly unlikely that any of these players will sign. Cahill would be a possible signing (or Dann) and then there will be the 100s of players linked to the position of replacing Cesc Fabregas who has now left the club...}

Believable5 Unbelievable5

The Saga has finally ended..arsenal have reached agreement with barca...its up on arsenal.com

Agree0 Disagree0

Why highly unlikely? ED022 stop with your Wenger loving. He has to deliver super quality now or go from AFC. Past is gone now its present

{Ed022's Note - Why is it highly unlikely? Because he hasn't done it for 15yrs and I don't see it happening. Im opinion. Oh and who said "I am having a Wenger love in..." I too am frustrated with this transfer window but I have to keep things in perspective not rant like a little brat...You should try it sometime...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Benzema will be a Gunner at some point in his career.. he's having a good time right now in Spain he's still young

Cesc Fabregas has travelled to Barcelona on Sunday night to complete a medical on Monday. Following the successful completion of a medical he will be paraded as a Barcelona player on Monday afternoon. Deal thought to be 29m euros.

{Ed022's Note - Personally I don't hold anything against Fabregas and predicted he would go this summer as I felt things would come to a head and need to be solved. We need to move on and im sure Wenger has targets/players in mind. I would also like to wish Fabregas well and he has served Arsenal football club well over the last eight years...}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

29m Euros, haha, not even close

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont hold it against fabregas either. wenger convinced him to stay last season, assuring him that success was afoot, and look what has happened.

people who criticise both Fabs' 'disloyalty' and Wenger's financial prudishness are contradicting themselves. the promises made to Fabs were effectively broken by Wenger signing Chamakh and Squillaci last summer instead of a top class CB and goalscoring striker, with whom we could well have won the league.

So Fabs is also a victim of the things that this 'Wenger out' bandwagon are complaining about. Hopefully people will stop with all the whingy populism, and directly let Wenger know what needs to be done to strengthen our squad and incentivise players like Cesc and Nasri to remain part of it. The chants at the Newcastle game ('spend some money', not any booing) were a good way of doing this.

Edd022 How Much Do Reckon Ganso Would Cost And What's The Possibility We Will Buy Him

{Ed022's Note - Ganso is under contract until 2015 if im not mistaken. He also has some "ownership" issues which will complete things as his club Santos will only receive 45% of the fee which will mean they will look to get a big fee. Something which will put Wenger off...}

Cahill is in London just saw him

{Ed022's Note - Bolton did play QPR on Saturday and he stayed to enjoy himself in London on Saturday night...?}

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Well lets hope the Ed is wrong and cahill is their for another reason a better reason

{Ed022's Note - Just throwing the idea out there? You know what footballers are like? Obviously a Monday medical at London Colney would be a much better story but I haven't heard anything yet...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be an epic signing. Kos and TV5 looked solid on Saturday but Cahill would go a long way to appease the fans

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely a signing shouldnt be made to appease fans. should be for the best of the team

Agree0 Disagree0

A signing should not be made to appease fans but it would take heat off and give fans more voice at ashburton which will help the team

ed todays rumours seem to be ayew and martin although i dont believe any talk until it happens i was wondering what you know about these 2 players

{Ed022's Note - I am a big fan of Marvellous Marvin Martin or MMM (Who's nickname has now taken off on here...} He is a possibility but I am unsure with who Wenger is going to get in if he does get someone in...}

I kno a CB is also very likely so which 1 do you think is most probable to happen?

Apparently Liam Brady was speaking on RTE (Ireland tv) this morning and saying that the Arsenal board refuse to sanction high wages

Yes he did say this. Also said that any new signings would'nt be "marquee" but more "up and coming" players. Sounds a bit worrying to me

Believable8 Unbelievable4

Get used to europa. be lucky to make top 6

Agree0 Disagree0

What is happening to Arsenal i have been a loyal fan since a kid and always will be but i have no faith in them this season and we will be lucky to even get in to the champions league. Wish i could say the future looks bright but it doesnt at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do wonder sometimes if the board is the real hurdle with all these transfers and Wenger is just the guy taking the hit for the board. I'm sure Wenger doesnt set ticket prices. He doesn't do the property deals. He doesn't try to increase the market for arsenal paraphernalia to add revenue streams.

I mean he's done miracles with what he's been able to spend.

If wenger wants to go young...he can do so...but i would only accept, Hazard, mata, cahill, vertongen, Benzema, marvin martin( i heard of him on here) goetze, honda.

I would gladly accept 4th spot cause in reality thats what it is.

but try win the fa cup or carling cup. and get to the knockout stages of the champions league...and progress year after year...and then...

fingers crossed.

If we win the Carling Cup but don't make 4th spot I will be furious.

i think we missed out on a great signing in shay given. think that we will get one of the following 3 cb jagielka, samba or cahill. really love to see shawcross though. in midfield i would like to see 1 or 2 of the following parker, tiote, rodwell, bentley havard. would also like to see 1 of these 3 strikers agbonglahor (spelling) defoe or darren bent. really think we should push the boat out for a good keeper mcgregor of rangers would be my first choice but would cost a fair bit

Believable3 Unbelievable14

We have a good keeper was by far the best player on the pitch yesterday
Rainham Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

Why settle for good though. mcgregor is one of the best in britain the now. has big game and club experience to.

Agree0 Disagree0

Following this advice means we're cruising for Europa. Those three strikers are bad. Bent would also cost 30m

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sorry but this is a terrible post. Why risk halting Chesney's development or worse losing him cos he wants to play games by signing a short term option. He's looks great to me. Shawcross worst of those CB options. But the thing that really got me about this post was Bentley. BENTLEY BENTLEY

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh I forgot about the bit about strikers. Thats a joke too. Would take Bent, but as a previous poster said he would cost a fortune.

would be good if we can get eto he not sure were he s going.dont think he fancy s russions

Believable1 Unbelievable9

If we got Eto we would lose Song, they cant be in the same room as each other, and please no Eto would be a terrible signing

{Ed022's Note - Seeing as Anzhi makhachkala have offered Eto'o 300k a week I really don't think this is a viable option...}

I'm really concerned about Arsenal's situation. Wenger needs to bring good player and not just average ones. I am worried being to 4 and not reach to the Champions League.

Wenger is looking for a replacement in midfield (Cesc and Nasri gone). Jadson and Gourcuff are his options. The CB would be Jagielka. The sign in of these players depend wheter or not if we reach the Champions League.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

Im with you too on this and am getting concerned, we reportedly had a 40 mil budget at the start of the window and i really expected the likes of Almunia, Bendtner and all the other dead wood to have been ship out quickly and for us to act quickly in the market regardless of the Fab and Nasri situations, Jags is 2 years too late i think and not a good buy, im starting to wonder whats going on to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its taken you this long to be worried? this has been coming ever since he dismantled the invincibles. we wont make the top 4 and wenger will leave as his contract is coming to an end. thanks arsene. why did we trust in you?

Agree0 Disagree0

"Im with you too on this and am getting concerned, we reportedly had a 40 mil budget at the start of the window and i really expected the likes of Almunia, Bendtner and all the other dead wood to have been ship out quickly and for us to act quickly in the market regardless of the Fab and Nasri situations, Jags is 2 years too late i think and not a good buy, im starting to wonder whats going on to be honest."

Couple things wrong with your "expectations".

Firstly, you fail to take into account the wages Bendtner, Almunia & others are on. This is a MASSIVE issue for buying clubs (most of whom are hard pressed financially), especially with respect to the fee Arsenal want to be paid. None of these guys was going to transfer out early in the window.

Secondly, Arsenal DID act quickly in the window with both Gervinho & Jenkinson. All of the delay in the Gervinho deal was on the Lille side, not Arsenals. Now, they might not have been the players you wanted brought in, but that's your problem, not Arsenal's. You won't acknowledge that though, as it doesn't fit your doom & gloom perspective. Fail, you.

Lastly, surely you do not put the ongoing Cesc/Nasri issues on Arsenal? Could Arsenal have set specific deadlines for both players? Yes, of course. But especially regarding Cesc, this summer it was going to happen. The fact that Barca had to scrounge behind the sofa cushions for coins to get the deal done is NOT Arsenal's fault, no matter how much you'd like to blame Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis for the delays. So, you fail miserably for a third time.

Three strikes and you're out, methinks.

Time for you to go back to playing Football Manager and leave the serious considerations to the adults.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

If he's speaking in terms of what Eto'o is about to get from that Russian club (about 300k/week) then yeah, makes sense. If he's speaking in terms of 100k-(maybe)175k then we should be preparing for a club that only qualifies to the Europa League.

You need to spend money, but you also don't throw money at a problem or a need.

Heard on the radio (five live) that we should expect cahill by the end of the week would be a good addition.
All this about tevez maybe coming is good news i think whether it will happen or not is remained to be seen
Good if we can get one more midfielder or striker plus defender

Midland Gooner

Believable12 Unbelievable8

I cant't c tevez ever coming to arsenal for the following reasons:
1- his wage will be too high and arsenal would never pay it
and
2- the only reason he wants to leave city is because he is homesick, and wants to be in Argentina (or near) so coming to arsenal is not what he wants.
as much as id love it too happen in my eye its unrealistic

Agree0 Disagree0

The Guardian has been talking for ages about what actually constitutes closer to Argentina. Milan, Madrid, etc are marginally closer to say Buenos Aires than Manchester is, so London would therefore be closer to home, too. He also hates manchester. But still Arsenal will not pay his exorbitant wage bill. Will never happen.

Believable5 Unbelievable25

That's interesting I heard a rumour about Cheick Tiote as well....we're see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheick Tiote would cost you 10m plus Wallcott plus Wiltshire mate so just forget it cos Arse Whinger will NOT spend money. TOON LOYAL ps, You defo need some Men in your team like.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheick tiote will not leave newcastle to join you lot if he was to leave it would be to a club with ambition and can actually challenge for silverware

Agree0 Disagree0

All that i would say is that tiote signed a contract only a few months earlier, so i would be rather surprised to see that happen. would also cost more to bring someone with a long-term contract, so i wouldn't think wenger would go for it.

{Ed022's Note - Tell me a RB who is better than Sagna? I think personally in my completely unashamably biased opinion he is the best right back in the PL...}

Fabregas is off to Barcelona for £28m which is a much lower fee than most believed would be paid. The Arsenal Board have also reluctantly agreed to sell Samir Nasri to Man City for £17m. Already Gael Clichy £7m, and now there is rumour Bentdner has done a deal with Stoke for £6.5m.

So where will Arsene spend this £58.5m :

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain - £15m
Chris Samba - £18m
Byron Lawrence - £8m
Gervinho -7m
Jenkinson - £1.2m

In summary two Superstars leave and a load of kids and average players join. Arsenal are now in real threat of failing to finish in the Top 5.

Believable14 Unbelievable16

Agree0 Disagree0

You are talking nonsense, the total fee of the fabregas transfer is believed to be around 35M, yes, the initial payment is of 28M plus performance-related add-ons, plus the 4M or 5M Cesc is paying....
So in the end we'll get as much money as we expected

Sorry but even the bookies put Arsenal 5th on the spread betting. I actually believe it is worse than the odds prediction, and here is why:

Poor keeper and hellish cover
Defence the worst in memory and so reliant on The brilliant injury prone Vermaillen staying fit.
Midfield destroyed with the World class exits of Fabregas and Nasri. Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott are not the players we all hoped they would be. The glimmer of light is Jack Willshire and the underrated Arshavin. Sadly with no depth and players like Song and Eboue things look bleak.
Upfront not many would argue with the credentials of Van Persie, but hand on heart everyone knows Chamakh , Vela and the overrated Gervinho are not the solutions.

For years I struggled to find a single player I would swop with the Lillywhites. I have to be honest Defoe with Van Persie sounds nice. As does Bale, Sandro, Modric and Lennon. Even Huddlestone and Van Der
Vaart would be useful. Outside these players I bet you all wish we kept Gallas and with Kyle Walker improving like a ballistic rocket, and the likes of King, Dawson, Bassong, Kaboul, Assou Ekotto and co I honestly feel Spurs dominate Arsenal in all field positions. Even the erratic Gomes back by Friedel and Cudicini, offers far more between the sticks.

The cupboard bare for many years and with the current crop of players and lack of any depth it looks likely that this will continue for many more to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only the Spuds would be as stupid to pay 18 million for Samba

1st. To the gent who wrote this, you are beyond an idiot.

2nd. We'll finsh 5th at the very worst.

3rd. Wenger wont make it till next September guarantee.

4th its 35-40m cesc and 20-25 nasri depends on where you read it.

Finally if Rvp stays fit he is the best forward in the epl without a doubt, he needs a good foil though i want us to carry on our 4-2-3-1 and if we dont buy (likely) it needs to go

You make Robin Van Persie the best striker in the English Premier league. I am seriously falling off my chairs you totally clobbered and biased clown. So let me remind you of a few strikers and you can then tell me that he is better than them:
1. Fernando Torres
2. Aguerro
3. Suarez
4. Tevez
5. Rooney
6. Berbatov
7. Drogba

My previous comments praised RVP but please do not be stupid. Lukaku, Balotelli, and even Anelka and Defoe are as good.

Arsenal will finish 7th unless they quickly reinvest in some new stars. Some of the players being quoted will waste the transfer proceeds on mediocrity.

Wake up Wenger it is time to move over and let sone take the club back ten years to a much better team and structure.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok to the clown with the list of strikers. none of those players has the strike rate of rvp. robins strike rate is a goal every 87 mins, which was the best in the premiership last season. also he had the second best assist rate for a striker in the premiership second only to wayne rooney.

so i'll go through your list just for you my little sweetpea

torres-was good at liverpool granted but since his move to chelsea has shown that he is NOT a quality player.

aguerro-not tested in premier league which is what we are arguing about here.

suarez-granted he is a good striker but is he really better than rvp? will have to wait and see.

tevez-scored 2 more goals than van persie and played 6 more games, are you telling me that if rvp had of played 6 more games he wouldnt of got more than tevez?

rooney-seriously last season where the hell was he? played 28 scored 11..... enough said

berb-actually like berbatov but same as tevez..... played 7 extra games compared to rvp with 2 goals.

drogba- even worse than rooney. nuff said

Right I'm a long time reader and this is my first post. I usually take all rumours etc with a pinch of salt, but I recently picked up a couple who work in the football industry, husband works for Liverpool and his wife works for sport 5. She recently had lunch with some legends in football like, seedorf, nistleroy, buffoon and our own Patrick viera. She told me that viera told her that wenger will never step aside until he forced to and he believed wenger will destroy the club. This has worried me greatly, if one our legends is saying this, then I am really worried about arsenal it's future

I have heard from a (normally) reliable source about Arsenal's transfer plans for the next few weeks.

Wenger's public backing of his squad is for obvious reasons - he doesn't want to harm morale or confidence, especially in such a key period in the season. A huge amount of his plans depends upon our qualification for the Champions League proper - his key targets want to know if we are playing Champions League football or not. There are definite plans to invest though.

Defence - Jagielka is our key centre back target. We will attempt to tie up a deal before the Liverpool game but it is likely to drag on past our 2nd leg with Udinese. Cahill, Dann and Subotic (wants CL) are the back ups.

Midfield - No plans for a holding midfielder. Song and Frimpong will fill the roles, with Diaby the emergency back up. Our first choice midfield will be Song, Ramsey and Wilshere. Rosicky, Diaby can fill in. Wenger was looking at bringing Ever Banega in but has been put off by off-field controversies. Instead a move for Nicolas Lodeiro (concerns due to a severe injury ruling him out of all of last season) of Ajax or Gourcuff are being considered. There are other targets but those are the only names I could get. Marvin Martin is a target but as a winger not centrally. Wenger is hopeful of two midfielders to like for like replace Cesc and Nasri.

Attack - Benzema is a genuine target. Kroenke has put pressure on Wenger to spend the money he receives from selling Cesc and Nasri and wants a big name to boost the morale around the club. Benzema is his number one choice. My source reckons it won't come off at all though and we won't be adding a striker unless situations change drastically so I think it is likely we will stick with the strikers we have and Walcott being moved more central from time to time.

Finally ignore the Tevez/Nasri swap rumours. Arsenal are not interested. Yes they rate him as a very good player. No they don't want his wages or to deal with a player who has become a serial mover in club football. Again something would have to change drastically for this to come off.

Sorry I can't provide any more definite news but this is all I have and might provide a glimmer of hope that we could see some results in the next few weeks. From what I've been told I expect (hope) the following players to arrive -

Jagielka/Cahill/Dann, Lodeiro, Martin.

mhc503

Believable19 Unbelievable16

How can jagileka be the main target and not subotic

Agree0 Disagree0

How can Dann demand Champions League football we are rescueing him from the Championship.

Agree0 Disagree0

Subotic *has* CL, genius.

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason I was told is because of the PL experience.

mhc503

Agree0 Disagree0

Subotic is actually wants CL football. Not Dann and Cahill.
bcos dortmund alredy play in CL, he dont want to move to the club that is not playing in CL.
it will be downgrade move.

Agree0 Disagree0

In my minds eye I see a man called Banega, don't know if that's surname or first coming to Arsenal in the last week of August with a famous footballer from South America. Also a tall guy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dann isn't demanding CL football but our top target Jagielka is. Dann is back up and not a key target. Subotic is the backup who wants CL football. I thought I'd made that perfectly clear.

Ill be amazed if we buy more than 1 player. Its a joke what our once great club has turned into. Listening to wenger is like listening to a politician, they only say what they think we want to hear dispite the fact that they know exactly what we think.

Why does Wenger persist with Jagileka, he is so average He's not a leader,a roll the sleeves up & get stuck in kind of player. Cahill is the defender we need, end of {Ed001's Note - have you ever watched Jags play? He is exactly what you just said he isn't! *shakes head*}

Our attack looked a bit stale yesterday. Gourcuff & Mata are great replacement for Cesc & Narsi. Don't understand why wenger wont buy Mata Gibbs looked ok, still would like to see A new LB.

Hi mate thanks for the effort in a sensible post. However I do not believe that AW doesn't feel the need to replace Cesc/Nasri. I also disagree that whether or not we acquire targets depends on champs league - we ARE in the champs league. Don't know what to make of the rest. I see Jags as a similar player to Kos so I don;t understand why we want him. Why we aren't going for a bigger, tougher guy I do not know.

Yes Subotic has CL football which is why he won't be willing to move to Arsenal unless they too have CL football, genius.
