Park Chu Young apparently given the no 9 shirt
Believable12
Unbelievable11
How do you know if he has signed? There is no suggestions on AFC website or SS
Agree0

Arsenal.com is the last place that confirms signings. The news should break tomorrow. The same person also told me that Cahill will have a medical tomorrow or Monday. If young gets the no. 9 shirt you'll know I am for real
Agree0
Disagree0
If he gets the number 9 shirt it will be because he is a fwd and its free at the minute... i wouldnt say its because you have said so.
however if i am wrong... please forgive me.. and i'd love number 52 once Bentdner goes, thanks for sorting that... ;)
in all seriousness - im happy to see the arrival of park chu young, will be good to see how he fits into the team.

The signing of Park Chu Young is obviously a good thing.. He is a good striker seeing as he'll replace Bendtner or if Bendtner doesn't leave then he'll fill in for Gervinho and Chamakh when they go to African Cups of Nations..
We will sign a defender and a midfielder.
People saying that the signing of Park Chu Young will not affect the signing of Hazard as it's the price that they care about not the club that he is going to, + we both bidded and it was the player's decision to come to us.
I hope to see Cahill and M'vila joining Arsenal but I doubt M'vila will join, so lets hope for a tall CDM or an effective playmaker.. I expect a signing of at least 15m though.. COYR

what are the chances of Hazard joining Arsenal? They seem slim now and always have to me.
Believable10
Unbelievable10
I would say no chance because he has said there is no chance he will leave Lille this season.
Connor
Agree0
Disagree0
Erm...if it's always been slim to you, then why ask the question ? You already don't believe it was going to happen, so you haven't believed what has been speculated. So if 10 people say yeah it will happen, will you believe it anyway? How much reassurance do you need or is possible to give- by its very nature rumours are ambivalent...
Stand by your own conviction or have some hope and be a little optimistic, difficult to be both at the same time.
Agree0
Disagree0
I'm asking the question because I'm not digging around the internet for every single blog or site to break a weak story with a mad obsession comparable to Gollum.
I understand that rumours are ambivalent. Was just asking the question because it seemed pertinent given the fact that we just supposedly gazzumped Lille for a signing.
I have plenty of faith in Wenger that he will make some sort of signing, but given the fact that we conduct transfer dealings in the dark and are rarely upfront about signings, read Mata Chelsea gazzump; I have no idea who it will be. Speculation is always speculation, and people on here seem to have decent European connects, I'd rather ask people in the know than say Fox Sports World fans in the US, hilarious and pedantic.
I'm very optimistic for this squad and season. Because the youngsters are untested, they have less pressure and the ability to band together as a team more so than every before at Arsenal. We have a Captain for the first time since Henry who A) loves being at Arsenal, and no dancing dreams of a return to home and B) players actually talk to RVP, ahem Gallas. Heart is one of the biggest and most important components of a team and by now it seems that this team do have a heart, albeit young.
Plus this sqaud looks more capable of beating teams we always should have beaten in the past few years: Stoke, Sunderland, Birmingham, Newcastle, etc. etc.
I'm already excited for tomorrow because only the games can decide true quality and the true winner.

Oh god did the last post mean any of what he said? One winner against Man Utd with half the team sold, suspended or injured? Yep there will be only one winner Man Utd 4-0. This will the worst side we have put out against them for 30 years plus.
At full strength Man Utd are comfortably better than us but with the Arsenal debacle continuing they will be in a different class. The side we put out today has all the strenght of Blackpool last year.

After the departure of both Fabregas and Nasri i believe that Arsene will attempt to replace atleast one of these players. Now, knowing Arsene it will not necessarily be any of the players we have recently been linked with. Therefore, i predict bids for Gourcuff, Pjanic and Eriksen.
Although, Bids for Elia, Zarate & Hazard would be more than welcomed....
Defensively, We need adequate cover for Sagna. I would like to see Arsene bring in Van Der Wiel. Gibbs is too injury prone and not at Premier League level yet, Baines would be a perfect addition. Vermaelen is our only world class centre back, Djourou is too hit and miss. As for Koscielny and Squillaci, sorry but they are not Arsenal quality. I would love 2 of either Cahill, Jagielka or Vertonghen to be added.
Park Chu-Young as cover for Van Persie looks a good deal.
No source, just my assessment.
Lew
Believable7
Unbelievable13
I agree with you when you say replace quality with quality, sagna has jenkinson to cover he showed he is pretty good recently, Arsen knows gibbs is injury prone and its debatable if he is good enough in defence
Agree0
Disagree0
Jenkinson has proved he is good enough cover for Sagna the other night vs udinese, and Koscielny is a class centre back and will work well with TV5 this season and will improve.
Agree0
Disagree0
I may be wrong but didn't Wenger say that Gervinho was the replacement for Nasri
Agree0
Disagree0
Van der Weil is not a cover player, he should be a starter and we already have Sagna starting, I agree we should have better cover than Jenkinson but right now that is not a priority.
Also I'm concerned that with Gibbs out Wenger would rather move Sagna across and play Jenkinson at right back rather than keep Sagna there and play Traore. To me that would suggest that Traore is absolute crap but if so why is he in an Arsenal shirt?
Or have I missed something - is Traore injured aswell?
Agree0
Disagree0
Wenger said Gervinho was not nasri's replacment but too play with him i think nasri helped to get him to sign but then decided to leave
Agree0
Disagree0
I would be happy to see Cahill, Vertonghen and Marvin Martin to join this window. Hazard is obviously the man we want to see but he is very, very unlikely. Cahill will be a great partner for TV5, Vertonghen offers versatility across the back four and as a DM and Marvin Martin as a replacement for Nasri.
Agree0
Disagree0
Koscielny just got called up for france.
Agree0
Disagree0
Your assessment of koscielny is well off. His reading of the game is brilliant but lacks strength, which he's worked on over the summer. Him and vermaelen have a perfect partnership, vermaelen wins the ball with headers and koscielny is the one who reads and intercepts the passes. They haven't conceded a goal this season and look solid. Squillaci though is just awful. Which is why we need a new centre back. In my opinion koscielny is better than Gary Cahill and Cahill would be back up if we bought him.

More worrying is the closer we get to the end of the transfer window is the fact that the likes of Bendtner and Co still remain at the club. Am sure either Cahill, Dann or Jagielka will sign before deadline and an experienced central midfielder. Never heard of or seen this Korean lad play but over the last ten years the standard of Korean players has improved immensely so as a back to RVP, Walcott and Gervinho and Chamakh am open to giving the lad a chance.

That's weird. I may very well be wrong here, but about 6 weeks ago I read an article saying he was not considering leaving Moscow, and they stuck 30m euros on him.
Like I say I may be wrong but I remember reading the article... it was on Sky Sports transfer centre which, at the time, I thought was reliable, and I have since learned it isn't any better than the cheapest rumour site.

AH Ed i've just realized if wenger is only going to buy 3 more players, a striker, a defender and а midfielder, if that midfielder is M'vila as many have speculated, that means we only have Wilshere, ramsey and rosicky as the creative contingency in our midfield. Have I got a reason to be worried or has Wenger got something up his sleeve?? maybe Ryo in Central Attacking Mid, if that's even good enough to replace Cesc?? {Ed002's Note - Don't worry. Everything will be just fine.}

I have supported Arsenal my whole life, but everything will not be just fine, and saying it doesn't help. I believe Arsene has been the greatest manager in our history and deserves some trust still, but not without limit.
If Arsene signs 3 players, and I still doubt it, the fact that yet another is a lightweight forward is a bad start. Korean football is good and indeed Park Chu-Young may be good, but he is so not what we need as a priority.
We need so urgently that central defender that I fear isn't coming, at least one other defender, and two quality midfielders (not a holding one as Song and Frimpong are good) - but there is no one out there of the right quality and the right Arsene price - Hazard will not be coming and he is the only game in town.

Has anyone actually thought that we are going for Young because Lille won't sell Hazard? Hazard is another one that only want to go to Barca or Real so he wouldn't hang around long. We have to sign players who are willing to give their all for the shirt and not use us a stepping stone. We have to stop being a feeder club or we will never dine at the top table.

Ive been living in Korea for the last 3 years and while i don't doubt that his signing would increase merchandise, and TV coverage as well (every bolton game and united game are guaranteed to be on TV, along with highlight reels of their best moves) and i even read something from ferguson admitting to doing that with Park Ji Sung...
Havign said that, 1. no one can compete MUFC in marketing to Koreans, they have the best korean player and previous captain and along with winning so many competitions, they are by far the number one choice. But also, i see so many Arsenal fans here too. I think we are probably the number 3 (behind Barca) team for Koreans because our fast paced, quick pass and move game is what Koreans are all about. If it was just for marketing, maybe a Chinese player wouldve been a smarter investment.

I am not saying for one minute that Cahill is crap, but I do not rate him anywhere near as highly as most others seem to. I don't know my defenders that well though so I don't have any suggestions. National Service-
"The Government changed the laws in 2002 so soccer players who reach the knock out stages of the World Cup and baseball players who take Korea to the semi finals or better of the World Baseball Classic can be exempt. But the gesture was shelved in 2007 because it only favoured the bigger, more popular sports, and discriminated against those who have excelled in a minority sport."
"all able bodied men between 20 and 30 must serve two years of national military service."
Even though chu chu was exempt in 2002 it was canceled in 2007. He still needs to serve his two years.

Some people think optimism proves you are a true fan - well it's just not true. Of course you want your side to do well, and of course you try to encourage them, but optimism is your enemy if it's always against realism.
Realistically Man Utd are stronger than last season realistically City and Liverpool are stronger, Chelsea are stronger, even Spurs are stronger. Arsenal? Well much much weaker, not just the loss of two great players but the continued psychological blows. Seriously Jenkinson, Park, Chamberlain for Fabregas and Nasri? Oh god what a mess.
The season isn't lost because of the two games it's lost because it has continued on from the end of last season when we moved from Championship form to mid table mediocrity form - be clear a lot of clubs that finished lower than us have had better form over the last 12-15 games.
I so hope we beat United today and make me eat my words but I'll be hiding behind the sofa as i think they may well blitz us badly.

Well, I'd hardly ever call a Prem team who made 14 consecutive CL's, a feeder team, but I can see why.
Lille must feel awful because Ligue 1 is indeed a feeder league. Look at the tremendous amounts of talent that have started in Ligue 1 for the first taste of European first team football. Ribery, Henry, Ronaldinho come to mind quickly.
I have no opinions on the Park Chu Young transfer yet because it isn't substantiated well by multiple sources. This could be a ploy by Arsenal to show their weight, but it could also be another questionable signing.

A bit of news regarding tomorrow's game vs Utd. Young Dutch midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup and Frenchman Francis Coquelin have been called into the first team squad. In the absence of Frimpong and Song, I would expect one of them to make their first league appearance for the club.

At the very start of this window someone said Arsenal will look to bring in Park Chu-Young so we gain commercially from Korea.
Whoever that was I tip my hat off to you. Seems a bargain at 3m. Should mean Bendtner is gone too so that's a plus :)
He'd also be on less wages than Bendtner who would sell for around 6m+. That's a good bit of extra funds to put towards a marquee player via wage reduction transfer fee for Bendtner and shirt sales in Korea. A fair profit I think. Very astute business.
Whoever said this... well done.

Apparently Warnock is lining up a loan move for Traore. Again I think that's rubbish, but if it;s not then surely we must be getring a LB. Wtf is going on?

Thinking outside the box a lot here. Maybe Bendtner is headed to Lille?
I mean Lille are in the Champions League so they should be a more attractive proposition for him than the likes of Stoke, Newcastle etc. They could also afford his wages because of this.
Something like 20m + Bendtner for Hazard. Means Lille don't need a striker anymore and they use 20m to replace Hazard and plug other gaps in their squad.
We sign Hazard and Park Chu-Young for 23m in total whilst getting Bendtner off the wage bill and gain Korean revenue in the form of Park Chu-Young's shirt sales.
Astute business from Wenger or wishful thinking I don't know. Definitely a possibility though. Both teams would be getting a good deal I reckon.

Of course it will. If you read the report and quotes from Lille on BBC Sport, and this deal, which seems real enough, comes about, then it's pretty much safe to say that all our relations with Lille are officially over. Good chance - although I think the Hazard deal was never going to happen anyway. He says he wants another year where he is. They say he's going nowhere. Initially they said only one of Gervinho/Hazard will be sold - and one of them was sold. We bitch about Barca and Cesc but we are guilty of the same crap with Hazard. Everyone and their auntie knows that he has agreed in principle that his next club will be AFC but we will wait because whatever the board say there is no money to spend until 2014 not even the bundles of cash that we have just taken in. The board are happy to be self-sustaining (4th place and CL qualification) Kroenke sees the club as a sound medium-term investment. Did any of you dudes know that tyhe people that built the Emirates also built stadia for Kroenke stateside? Did you also know that half-way through building they ran out of money - that's when Silent Stan first appeared.
The Emirates/Highbury was a big money spinning/property development. The board don't give a toss about football. Don't believe me? You will do in time. Peace out.

I just checked arsenal.com and guess what, still nothing, ha ha. I knew Arsene is screwing us again. My guess is than between Monday-Wednesday we will get 2 players (CB,MC) and maybe one ST if Nick is finally sold. That will be it. I believe the players are Cahill, Zarate and M'vila or another surprise CM. Don't expect Hazard, He ain't coming now Until Monday though, squeeze tightly your ass cause it's going to be a big one on Sunday. A draw for me will do, but I fear we might lose.

Agreed - he's a great finisher (most of the time) but with him recently joining Villa for £20M on a 4 year contract was it? I can't see it. Would happily welcome an English striker though - I'd like agbonlahor from villa or even Doyle (Irish?) they aren't that rated but in our squad I can see them offering something a bit different. I do hope we get Cahill / samba and someone like hazard (they guy looks immense) for midfield and a striker. Ruiz looks average at best though and I don't think he'll manage in the Prem. Hope Chamakh comes back to form this season - fast, good assists, good ariel ability. Stick him up with v.Persie behind

Bent is exactly the sort of striker I think could really make the difference. He concentrates primairly on being a striker, which is exactly what we need- we have playmakers and passers, including rvp imo etc we need someone to stay in around the box to finish them- he could be that man for sure.
I rate him- he is playing right now for villa though...? hmm...not so sure. Unless it is going to be a last minute bid, but then your source must be very good.
I think if this is true and it all happens, signing cahill, baines, hazard and bent to the players we already have...will make us a force to be reckoned with.

Also DF Raul Albiol from Real Madrid for around 12 mill, in case things fall apart from the primary target, Gary Cahill.

Arsène Wenger is three players short of having the squad he wants for the long season ahead.
The Arsenal manager has signed four this summer - including Gervinho and Carl Jenkinson - but he has stepped up his search for further reinforcements since Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri left.
The situation is further complicated by the Africa Cup of Nations. Wenger is likely to lose Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh as well as Gervinho to that tournament in January and has added a striker to his shopping list as a result.
"It is important [to strengthen] because we will lose players in January with players going to the African Nations Cup," said Wenger.
"We lose Gervinho and Chamakh together so, first of all, it is important to strengthen up front. It is important that we find one midfielder and one defender as well. So we are still short of three bodies.
"My time has been taken up [by players going out] and it was a very difficult summer on that front because we had to face adversity, negativity, but it had to be done. Overall, we tried to do as well as we could."

I can see us signing 4 players. Not to sure who but I reckon 4 will come in.
My wish list is:
Gary Cahill - 12million +
Yann M'Vila - 18million
Eden Hazard - 25million
Gonzalo Higuain - 20million (Unrealistic I Know....)

The first three would be good.

I think we can survive with m'vila, cos we got song and pong (frimpong) but definitely need a defender, an attacking midfielder (playmaker) and a striker

NO chance at all - Arsene will not - ever ever spend £20m let alone £75m. You could give him £500m and he would not change. M'Vila if he is less than £14m is likely, Pereira who hasn't even started a primera game is likely, and hmm that's about it unless Bendnter goes.

Tip-top fourfold. Love to see these for 75m. Flog Bendtner and we've paid for the lot.
Don't you think we need a left back though?

Yes, I do think we need a LB but it won't happen. Although I am in favor of a least giving Gibbs a chance until January the reassessing the situation.
