Ed
This name keeps cropping up - Rabiot from PSG
Seems to fit what we need given our injury to Santi but not to replace Coq.
Are we interested in him and what are our chances here?
Also, we seem to be linked with deep playing central midfielders rather than a defensive midfielder - is that where you see the midfield being strengthened?
Thanks and happy new year.
{Ed001's Note - lots of names keep cropping up, do you really think we can answer about them all? There is a list down the page that Ed002 gave of the midfielders we know of Arsenal interest in. Elneny is almost certain to sign, not sure what else you expect in January.}

'Unlikely: Juventus, Arsenal and Chelsea enquired about Rabiot in 2013 and PSG were not keen to sell. Chelsea, Roma and Arsenal enquired in the summer of 2014 but all would see him as one for the future - and neither would commit to the guarantee of first team football that was being requested by the player. Roma tried for a deal in January 2015 but to no avail. For more than a year Rabiot has been bleating about not being in the first team at PSG and a move to any of the interested sides would not have resolve that in the short term. However, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle and Manchester City had him watched over during last season on a regular basis, and Spurs were keen on taking him on a loan to buy deal. Although previously backing away due to the request for a guarantee of playing time, talks did again happen with Juventus in July 2015. Roma, Spurs and Arsenal may rekindle their interest if PSG were to look to let him go in January. I am pretty sure if that is the case then Wenger will want to talk to the player (and his mother) to ensure that his head is in the right place. Chelsea simply saw him as too much grief in the end. '

Rabiot concerns me, way too much nonsense surrounds him. I would like to see us sign Wanyama as one of three defensive style midfiled players we can use; Coquelin, Elneny and Wanyama, with Ramsey and Cazorla able to fill in, if necessary. Next season, we must let Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini depart. I would like to see the likes of Wilshere, Ramsey and Cazorla play further forward, where they can be more effective and possiby avoid injury. An additional forward would be ideal, Hernandez being my choice: a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.
