Hi Edd any updates on players Arsenal are looking at ahead of January transfer window?

Thanks!

BgdGooner

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new at this time.}

Eds, any truth in Nainggolan rumors? Would be perfect for Arsenal.

BgdGooner

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what rumours you are referring to. Dortmund are looking to a deal for Nainggolan but Roma will set a very high price given he has only been there a short while.}

1.) 23 Jan 2015 12:06:20
The rumour from the Daily Express this morning that Arsenal are interested.

18 Jul 2014 12:45:26
Ed, have you heard anything about Arsenal signing 17-year-old Mladen Micanovic?

BgdGooner

{Ed002's Note - I haven't, sorry.}

29 May 2014 11:23:35
Apparently Juanfran has no intention of joining Arsenal, so I ask you Richards or Aurier?

For me it's Aurier, no doubt in my mind.

BgdGooner

1.) Am I missing something with Richards?

He doesn't play and when he does he gets injured. Fair enough, with his injury record, it's a match made in heaven.

IMO a waste of money.

2.) 29 May 2014 18:37:12
Uchida

3.) Aurier definitely.

25 May 2014 00:22:21
Ed, are Arsenal interested in Uchida or is it just paper talk?

BgdGooner

{Ed002's Note - To be honest, I don't know if Arsenal are interested in Atsuto Uchida or not. The target has been Aurier for sometime and that is certainly achievable.}

If we waited a little longer we could've sold Xhaka for double the money to a Saudi club lol.

Partey staying is an absolute must! I'm not going to bash new signings after a few friendlies cause that is just ridiculous, but when Partey and Casemiro came on in the second half their presence is just immence. Something i haven't seen from Rice in these games. Hopefully when he integrates in the team he'll provide it too. Nketiah for me should be sold i have been saying that for a long time not good enough. I'd rather take a chance on Balogun cause Eddie has proven he is not the man to lead our front line. Generally i feel we have added depth to our squad and should be much more prepared for a long season than the last one. More signings would be a bonus but once Timber, Havertz and Rice get settled i think we should be good.

Great news - hoping for a solid Rice and Partey partnership to help us attack, win the ball back, not get bullied plus make up for Zinchenco’s defending.

That’s a solid spine especially with Saliba behind them and in fairness Jesus who works his socks off doing the press, sometimes at the expense of hitting the six hard box enough but that’s a strong spine. Best for an age.

With Saka and Trossard work ethic - really sets us up well.

Just a few changes and we will have a super team. Need to ensure squad is even stronger as lack of rotation caught up with us last season . COYG.

Why is everyone so attached to fringe players. If we want to be like City we have to sell those players when they are in demand. Yes ESR brought us much joy in the past but he played 170 minutes this season. Kieran Tierney is a quality player but Arteta is reluctant to play him. Xhaka is a different story and I always thought we could improve in this position.
If we sell the players that are not in the first team when they are in demand we will get more money to invest in new players. If we keep them they will lose value and we are not improving the team with them.

1.) 06 Jun 2023 11:59:44
I agree with you mate, although some players I don't want to see leave, ESR being one of them. He's had 1 season with us where he has been unlucky with injuries and I think he could be important for us next season.

2.) 06 Jun 2023 13:43:56
I rate Tierney as one of the best LBs in the league. Don't want him to go, but also don't mind him leaving as he's made of glass.

ESR is a young talent, he had a great season then couldn't get a chance, I'd like to keep another year and see.

It's not attachment, if elneny, eddie, Nelson, Vieira etc were to leave i have no issues. we need to improve and bring in players who challenge.

3.) 06 Jun 2023 15:35:43
The issue is we are in a different sphere now. A title challenge and top four are our aim. We can only play eleven players but we need the best eight or nine good players who are happy to be used when needed and not play 35 league games. We should replace anyone who isn’t good enough as a sub or is unhappy being a sub. Tierney is and Martinez was too good to bench warm so if unhappy they go. Pep keeps them happy because they are serial winners and pay their squad well enough. We may pay well but are not serial winners ( it’s just City) . So the best players happy to fill in is the best we can hope for COYG PS I’m wary of a player who’s happy to bench warm . Winston Bogarde anyone?

4.) 06 Jun 2023 17:59:38
I have said it before, but I don’t get the anti ESR rhetoric. Is he going to be top class, I don’t know, I am not a football manager, but I believe the reason he didn’t play much this season is that he had a long term injury.

However, Viera had no such injury, and subsequently proved to be extremely unsuited to the premiership and poor at our level, and yet I don’t see his name cropping up as a potential sale to raise cash like I do with ESR.

Can anyone explain what Vieira has shown that ESR hasn’t? Both are young, both should improve, and yet one is foreign and cost £30 million, so he must be a better player right? In the same way, Pepe must be better than Saka, based on the outlay?

I hope I am wrong about Viera, and that he settles in better next season, alongside ESR who I also would like to see still at our club. There are some squad players who we probably could sacrifice to get better, but don’t forget those players also cover injury. You don’t want to sacrifice two or three experienced squad players, like an Elneny, just to buy a single player. You would then end up risking having to use a Hale End player as a sub if you go down a few injuries.

{Ed014's Note - I think we have ample players to move on in Mari, Lokonga, AMN, Cedric, Tavares, Holding, Pepe and possibly Nketiah, that’s without the reported moves for Xhaka and Tierney.

Not sure about Trusty, Marquinhos and Balogun who’ve been out on loan too.

That’s a chunk of wages to put towards Saliba’s new contract and any incomings like Rice or Caicedo as well as any possible coin for their respective sales.

So that’s 8 that I’d be happy to see go and seem 100% likely that they will leave, plus Xhaka.

So no need to get rid of ESR just yet, Arteta seems happy with him from what’s been said.

I’ve not mentioned Vieira as like you just not sure about him and don’t know obviously if Arteta likes him, would a loan be a good thing.

5.) 06 Jun 2023 19:07:16
I wonder wether a loan would be acceptable Ed. I guess when we payed the £3omil and signed him the discussion would have gone somewhere along the lines that we really want you, please come to our club. So I wonder if it’s then acceptable to say a year later would you mind going out on loan to play for Burnley?

{Ed014's Note - I don’t know mate but he’s wanted game time which he’s unlikely to get next year where by a loan may guarantee an extended run of that and show for sure if he can cut it or not in the Prem.

Would need to be the right club and definitely one in the Prem.

6.) 06 Jun 2023 21:50:52
I think Arsenal should take advantage of having had a good season and cash in on players that are not in the first team plans. Keeping ESR might mean he loses his value and it's a rough chance of him playing instead of Odegaard, Martinelli or Saka. Man City have done this a lot of times and they are the champions again. Jesus, Zinchenko, Sterling, Ferran Torres, Sane. I think that is smart get as much money as you can and invest in players that can break into the first team.

Disgraceful performance! I'm not mad because we lost to City but to play like that in a match that important is a disgrace! No fire, no passion, no nothing. I don't care what the expectations were at the start of the season but every player needs to know that they bottled it! We have to start telling it how it is. Hopefully someone learns something from it but last season was the same.

1.) 26 Apr 2023 23:08:17
Yeah way to passive in the 1st half especially seemed like we did know weather to stick or twist with going with the press or sitting back and did neither in the end and ending up being stuck in middle no mans land and City worked the gaps between the lines with ease really and played around us. Both Xhaka and Party in particular were way off it tonight seemed like both were not 100% fit tbh and against city you need everyone on it to have any chance. The pressure of leading has without doubt got in the heads a bit and you have to say we have folded in the last 3 games. West ham and Southampton draws very costly. Just got to get it together for next 5 games so we don't go out with whimper while there is still a chance you never know.

2.) 27 Apr 2023 01:59:48
I think my main regret here with this team is that we have recruited so well in January and made such an effort to build a deeper squad, but we keep overrelying on the same players regardless of form. Trossard and Nelson have really deserved more chances than to just be coming off the bench every week.

That said I believe Arteta will learn what that really means next season when we need to play a top team midweek. Looking forward to next season now as I had more or less given up on the league last month.

3.) 27 Apr 2023 10:44:07
I usually really dislike the term "bottled it" and it has been thrown at us a lot in the last few weeks and I simply do not agree. HOWEVER last night that label is 100% correct, I don't think it was a tactics issue as some would suggest, we have been purring about these players this season so to start suggesting that they are not RB's or up to standard is an Angry/ disappointed response IMO, but completely understandable.

Last night felt like last season's Newcastle game where I honestly believe that the players lost the game in the warm-up and in the tunnel, as soon as the kick-off happened the realization of the occasion hit them and they lost all the character that they have shown this season, they did not become bad footballers overnight, we have taken 3 points from the last 12 and we are STILL 2 points clear at the top, that is how good this team is, that is the truth of it. but they are on a steep learning curve and so far when they have been faced with that crunch moment they have crumbled and that is more of a mentality/ maturity/ experience issue rather than a playing quality issue.

I might have my rose-tinted glasses on here but I do believe that is just experience rather than a wider issue, after the disappointment of the top 4 race last season it would seem that the players and coach dusted themselves down, accepted their shortcomings and came back this season stronger and mounted a good title challenge than none one us were expecting, so I believe that IF we fail to win the league this season they will be better next season because of it.

If we finish 2nd then it will be a difficult one to digest for us fans, yes at the start of the season we would all have taken that, however as some keep saying, that was at the start and we have had a genuine chance to win the prem title so if we don't that has to be a huge disappointment and we cannot sugar coat that.

But the one thing we should all be able to agree on is that what we all want to see is progress and pride and commitment to the club and the players and the coaching staff are showing all of that, there will be mistakes but they don't hide and they are showing pride and commitment to the badge, it has been a great ride this season so far and one of the most enjoyable seasons in a while, and the emirates has been a fantastic atmosphere.

I however am still one of those fans that is convincing myself that we will win our last 5 games and Man City will drop the points we now need for us to lift the title.

4.) 27 Apr 2023 15:26:22
I do not think we should stop hoping Hampshire we all will as a matter of fact. I just think we can't sugarcoat it anymore and I hope Arteta told the players that recent performances are bad. If we always talk to them like they are kids they will never grow up.

5.) 28 Apr 2023 09:39:52
Absolutely agree BDG,

You know what, I would rather we leak goals and score one more than play like Tottenham.

Aubameyang won't be coming to Arsenal period. Everytime a transfer drags on for more than a week you can count it out. Arsenal won't pay what they ask and will wait until the last day and still won't offer what the club is asking for and possibly panic buy someone who was 10th on the list of targets because no one will sell, or say that we already have enough players. How many times does it have to happen for the fans to realize that's how the club works.

It's a shame really, the kid is pretty good, he was part of Serbian world cup under 20 winning team and was one of the stand out performers and had a pretty good season with Lazio. I would pay 30 mil for him any day.

We were heavily linked with him when before he joined Juventus. That's exactly the lack of transfer iniciative that we had problems in the recent years. And when we get our player we have to pay a lot more if we didn't slack in the first attempt. We got Alexis for 40 mill or so but we were interested in him before he joined Barcelona, we were interested in Aubameyang, Hazard, Mata, Higuain the list goes on. And when we want to sign those players again it's to pricey but inicially if we paid less we would've gotten them. We need to be more concrete with the offers we make and not hesitate to pay a few mill more.

No need for psychoanalysis gunner62 mate. Competing for the title for 2 years in a row is not bad. Certainly better then not playing Champions league or finishing 7th or 8th in the league. But losing whenever the pressure is on to finish the job is a definition of bottling it whether you like it or not.

In case of Arsenal that's always the case. Take the loss and move on cause this club can't win anything. At the end of the day we are at least competing and that is the only thing we can take. But year after year bottling it whenever it matters is not good enough.

BgdGooner

{Ed014's Note - don’t agree with the bottling part mate but each to their own.
