Stronger first 11 . ?

Is anyone else concerned about our lack of spending to date?
Yes, we have bought Kolasinac and Lacazette but I don't really see this as enough.
(Giroud keeps Lacazette out of the France team more often than not) and in my opinion, we need wholesale changes . !
I fully expect Sanchez to leave in the last few days of the the transfer window and swopping Giroud for Lacazette and d Gibbs for Kolasinac and losing a world class player in Sanchez does not improve the first 11 in my opinion.
Talk of Mahrez or Lemar arriving may improve the first 11 IF we keep Sanchez, but not if we then sell him, so it seems to me we would be standing still if this happened or possibly a very slight improvement, which is not what we need, we were a long way off being champions last year and no English team threatened in the champions league!
As was seen in our pre season games to date, we simply can't defend as a team ( and this has been the case for a number of years ) and this needs addressing urgently.

One of the area's that we need to improve on is the dark arts, stopping attacks ( by any means ) before they occur, this is where Mourinio's teams excel, I don't like seeing it, but its part of the game and we're too nice.
A foul in the oppositions half, stopping a dangerous counter attack doesn't normally result in a red card, we usualy wait until they get in our box before we foul . !

We also need a top class centre half and a top class defensive midfielder, preferably one who is experienced and knows how to win. ( and possibly a Corzola replacement )
We need to address this losing mentality . !

And all of the above needs addressing, now, not on the last day of the window, because we will already be 3 or 4 points behind Chelsea by then . !

ah well, I can dream . !

I'm starting to worry we won't strengthen in those areas. I
Have doubts we're even going to land lemar. We need to sell before we can buy because of the size of our squad. And although there is still a month to go in the window our season starts pretty soon and I for one do not want to play catch up. Again!

2.) 31 Jul 2017 10:44:44
Lacazette signing baffled me when aubameyang and benzema are available .

3.) 31 Jul 2017 10:45:23
Only 5th place in the league is guaranteed a europa league place so that needs to be our absolute minimum target and that won't be easy at all

Everton Liverpool Chelsea Utd City Spurs will all like us have top aspirations but 7 into 4 doesn't go so 3 of the 7 might need to fight it out for 5th should both domestic cups be won by non top 5 teams.
No European football at all would be a new low for the club so for that reason alone we need to strengthen quite a bit on what we have.

4.) 31 Jul 2017 16:19:51
Sanogo, Benzema does not want to leave Madrid so he is not available, Aubameyang will only leave to a Madrid or Barcelona he will would want to come to Arsenal. Lacazette is about the best player we could have attracted to us as a striker who is available.

For me if the price for Lemar gets too silly we should move on and try and get a powerful and defensively disciplined CM as I am not 100% sure on the Xhaka and Ramsey partnership that we will be relying on is good enough against the best teams.

We should go far in the Europa league and may well win it ( only a Few teams will be at our level) but it puts physical demands on the players with all the extra games and you are always playing catch up in the league as you play more games on Sunday which adds pressure.

I think the top 4 this year will be your standard City Chelsea, Utd and us tbh. Spurs will get nowhere near the same heights as proven time and again in the past when they have one good season they can deal with expectations and they will struggle with home games at Wembley.

Liverpool could be a threat but will be a lot weaker if they lose Coutinho. Everton have done well in the market so could be a real threat more so than Liverpool perhaps if Rooney does fire.

5.) 31 Jul 2017 18:23:50
I disagree on Spurs Ryan, Wembley will be a hurdle for them to overcome but they are not one season wonders they have progressed year on year under Poch and I would be very surprised if they along with Chelsea Utd and City didn't make top 4, if I had to pick one of those to drop below 4th it would be city for me but I'm pretty sure all 4 will make it by next May and it's only the order they finish in that is in my opinion tough to predict.

Hi all,
Does anyone think that its our game plan that's outdated . ?
We base our game on possession and its just not working.
Maybe it only works when you have 10 or 12 world class players in your squad, who work just as hard without the ball as they do with the ball?
Everyone has us sussed out, Its too easy to play counter attacking football against
and its not working.
Every time we get the ball in defence, we over pass it, taking 5 or 6 passes before we get to the oppositions box and then have to deal with 11 defenders, everything is too slow and indirect.
When I remember our previous successful sides under Wenger, we were lightening fast on the counter attack and it brought us many trophies.

I really do think its time to change this total possession b/ s, and all of the plaudits it gets from the football commentators, because, its not working and, I hate to say this, its boring to watch . !

I much prefer to see fast, counter attacking football played at breakneck speed ( and producing results )

I'd be interested in what you guys think . ?

I think the Base of the squad has been around a long time and a lot people have collectively become set in their ways and change is hard to implement across the board after so long of doing so many things in the same way.
A completely fresh start will be needed at some stage in the future.

2.) 29 Jul 2017 11:52:22
I've said it before, the game has moved on and we are going backwards. The managers now are all younger and have new ideas that we don't.

17 Aug 2015 23:57:52
Is it normal for a manager and a referee to "agree that another foul and Coquelin is off ' ?
Am I the only one who feels very uncomfortable that a manager admits to putting severe pressure on a referee at half time and admits to actually trying to get a player sent off?
????????

ColbyGarry

{Ed025's Note - i agree garry, a manager discussing an opponents player at half time is just wrong..

1.) 18 Aug 2015 00:11:19
Tell me a managet who doesn't put pressure on refs. They all do to different degrees.

{Ed025's Note - having discussions at half time, and telling the ref that if le coq commits one more foul that he should send him off?????..come on steve that cant be right mate, i know you like to play devils advocate at times but that is just bordering on the ridiculous..

2.) 18 Aug 2015 00:15:00
Any manager should not be allowed to confront a ref until final whistle blows.

3.) 18 Aug 2015 02:13:13
Either way the ref fed pardew with a load of BS and then obviously told mert to tell wenger to sub him off. Pardew just showed that refs won't take him seriously it's not as if it was wenger or mourinho because they would have got their own way. It does make a difference if your a top four club. Like it or loath it

4.) 18 Aug 2015 00:48:44
Ed with all due respect, people are being very naive if they think managers don't confront refs and tell them their job. I ain't defending it but its fact.

{Ed025's Note - they certainly do steve but this seemed more than that, to discuss a player and dictate to a ref what his actions should be is wrong, i blame the ref to be honest not pardew mate..

5.) 18 Aug 2015 09:04:35
SAF was superb at it .

The ref was spineless IMO and shouldn't have got into a conversation with Pardew

6.) 18 Aug 2015 09:17:31
It was very naive of pardew to openly talk about it

7.) 18 Aug 2015 10:28:15
If they agreed at the next foul he's sent off, then why did he get another foul, before being substituted? This is a nothing debate for me,managers and players constantly harrass refs going into the tunnel,Wenger has done it countless times when I've watched, particularly when he feels other teams are booting you off the field, like he used to complain about several years ago. Fact is regardless of the convo, coquelin got away with anoter foul, didn't get sent off and thus it had no impact on the game, the ref ignored Pards.

8.) 18 Aug 2015 18:13:47
On the contrary i'm always positive. didn't you lot do science. Two Negatives = a positive.

Hi Edds,
Anything on Rooney? every now and then I see a snipit in the papers or on the net saying that Arsenal are still interested.
In my opinion I think he would be a great signing, I think we lost something when Bergkamp left that hasn't been replaced, he had an edge to him, a great fighting spirit and an excellent long pass to split defences and turn a defending corner into a winning goal!
Since those days, we've passed the ball to death, if we win possession from a corner, 20 passes later we're in the oppositions box along with 11 of their players.
I think Rooney could be our new Bergkamp, and turn us into a great counter attacking team.
The only thing I would say, is buy him now, before we buy Suarez, because we'd kick their arses with both of them!

Anyway I'm going mad checking this website every day and still nothing concrete !

Keep up the good work edds

ColbyGarry

{Ed022's Note - There is interest but Chelsea seem to be in pole position}

ColbyGarry

1.) Rooney is not nearly as good as Bergkamp.

2.) I wouldn't let Rooney clean Bergkamps boots
Totally different class

I wouldn't play him unless he signed a new contract, end of.
Why put him in the shop window so he and his agent can get a better deal at another club?
Why put any more effort into developing a player whos leaving?

What about the changes that we were promised?
What exactly has changed?
I agree with AA, we needed wholesale changes to change the losing culture and to give us some steel, and from what I see, we havnt really made any improvements.
Gained a striker that Giroud keeps out of the France team?
We still need a quality centre half and a quality defensive midfielder . !
And having a couple of fighters in the team would help . !

Totally and utterly pi**ed off this morning !

ColbyGarry

{Ed001's Note - it is Griezmann that keeps Lacazette out of the French team.}

I rate Giroud above Welbeck, and he doesn't get injured so much, I would be looking to unload Welbeck and keep Giroud . !
Surley when trying to strengthen your 1st team and your squad, its the weakest player ( in any given position ) that should be sold, thereby strengthening the whole squad . ?

And now that Morata has gone, there's a space in the squad, a chance of real playing time (for Mbappe) and also an extra £60m in the kitty ( if they're struggling to pay for him ) . not looking good for us IMO.

I'd take the £6m and wish him luck, we held on to Diaby too long and cost us a fortune in wages, He's too fragile and it won't change, get him off the wage bill now.

Maybe it means they got to try harder to impress a prospective new club,

also.
maybe it will pressure them to sign a new contract? as i'm unsure how they would fare if they got a serious injury in their last year?
Who would buy them then?
what would their insurance cover?

Just a thought?
Could the edds add to this?
