Please please please do not let the rumours about Christian Eriksen be true. It is being reported now that Inter are interested in swapping Eriksen for Lucas Torreira.

Ed, please confirm this is newspaper nonsense. Not the sort of lazy player we need at all.

Gooner Jim

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what has been said but I am not aware of any interest in Eriksen from Arsenal.}

1.) 20 Jan 2021 12:59:19
Thanks for replying, Ed.

2.) 20 Jan 2021 15:23:57
I’d have him all day.

18 Jul 2019 00:34:13
What is this club coming to when Granit bloody Xhaka is most likely candidate for the captaincy for the upcoming season. The days of Adams and Vieira seem so far away.

Gooner Jim

1.) 18 Jul 2019 02:56:29
I would have gone with Sokratis, but there weren't any really good choices to be fair. Lacazette was another name I would have put forward but who would have been your pick?

2.) 18 Jul 2019 06:55:20
It’s about time that arsenal stopped being cowards and made Bellerin my captain.

3.) 18 Jul 2019 07:58:30
Xhaka had 2 or 3 really decent games last season which is 2 or 3 more than in his first 2 years combined at the club. He also had another 2 or 3 where he wasn't awful so perhaps Emery wants to show the rest of the squad he rewards improvement :-) .
It's only paper talk at the moment so let's wait and see but if Xhaka should be our captain next season then it doesn't bode well for us fans or Emery himself who I doubt will get a 3rd season with us if we are no better than we were last season.

4.) 18 Jul 2019 13:46:17
That's a good question about who I would want. There is no obvious contender which is another matter in itself. Given the players we have I would put Lacazette forward personally given his work rate and determination in the games he plays in.

5.) 18 Jul 2019 14:04:01
I agree on Laca for captain. He's not the loudest or most vocal player, but he let's his play do the talking and leads by example with great work rate.

He has a good attitude as well, but a bit of a temper. Remember that mad elbow he landed on that poor lad's chin from Ostersunds?

6.) 19 Jul 2019 06:48:44
Laca is no captain, vice captain maybe, but we know he probably isn’t going to start every week, he goes missing/ stroppy when it isn’t going quite his way. Yeah when he is good he is fantastic and puts a shift in. For me i’d be happy with 1 of 3 Sokratis, Bellerin or Xhaka, yeah Xhaka performamces are not the best, but he does show leadership on the pitch, he shouts, he instructs, he let's players know. I would still rather we sold him, but i do believe he is our beat option, he’s also the captain of swiss national side. must do somethinf right.

Hi ed (s) ,

Are the reports in some papers and over the internet to be believed that we may go after Zaha. I can't see how we could afford him to be honest, plus I think we should be concentrating on signing defenders who can actually defend. Your info or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Gooner Jim

{Ed002's Note - Zaha (RW) Emery says he likes the player but Crystal Palace will look for £60M plus which will take a serious chunk of the available funds away - but perfectly possible as the big buy of the summer}

1.) 22 May 2019 19:17:56
Wow, many thanks for responding.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome Jim.}

2.) 22 May 2019 23:29:42
He’s going back to Man United.

3.) 22 May 2019 22:21:11
Ed, from the defender target list you gave us, is there anyone we can cross off or add to the list?

{Ed002's Note - You can add Brandon Soppy (CB) Rennes kiddie - recommended by an ex player - perhaps 2020.}

4.) 23 May 2019 10:55:59
Thanks Ed. You see how the newspapers lie Ed, is it really true that if arsenal win the Europa that our budget will be substantially higher than it is without winning it?

{Ed002's Note - It really doesn't work like that. Much will depend on what money can be obtained by selling players.}

5.) 23 May 2019 11:06:48
Thanks Ed, I imagine it will be hard getting the likes of Elneny, Jenkinson and Mustafi out of the door due to the high wages we pay them.

{Ed002's Note - Transfer fees are running wild again, all three will move if the club don't ask too much.}

6.) 23 May 2019 16:15:42
Would love us to sign Zaha. Can’t see us paying the price Palace want, unless one of our forwards is sold.

7.) 23 May 2019 18:58:41
Interesting you say if the club doesn't ask for too much. Can only imagine we have for these players in the past. Wonder if it'll be worth just taking a loss on those players which will reduce that wage bill of ours.

8.) 24 May 2019 10:28:48
Thank you ed002.

18 Feb 2019 15:19:42
Hi Eds,

I was reading an article where apparently Overmars stated that Alexis Sanchez could be moving back to the Emirates as he believes a switch back to familiar territory could help him rediscover his form.

I would be interested to know your thoughts on this, whether there may be any truth in this, and whether any fellow Gooners would want to see him back. Thanks.

Gooner Jim

{Ed002's Note - I cannot imagine for one minute that Arsenal would consider doing that. The money would be significant, it would be a step back and the risk high.}

1.) 18 Feb 2019 16:09:25
Thank you kindly for responding.

2.) 18 Feb 2019 18:20:08
I can't imagine it either Jim as financially it would make even Mesuts wages look reasonable.
But in a parallel universe where he wanted to come back on his old wages then yes I'd grab with both hands as he was our best performer of the past decade and more up until his last half season when he'd already decided to leave for City but we made him stay another 5 months which cost us a 60 million transfer fee when he ended up at United and we got Miki in stead of 60 million, not the clubs smartest bit of business ever that.

3.) 18 Feb 2019 19:25:00
We do seem to make a pigs ear of outgoing transfers far to frequently 62.

4.) 18 Feb 2019 20:17:45
Our business in both buying and selling ends of the market has been atrocious sparky mate, it looks like the club are trying to redress it now but the affects of the past will take time to put behind us mate.
A lot less giving out contracts on a job for the boys basis and negotiating and either settling on new deals or selling at a premium much earlier would make a huge difference in my opinion mate.
If in 2 years time Torreira won't extend cash in no matter how you we don't want to lose him at the time, it has to be better watching him join United Liverpool or even worse still Spurs on a free 2 years later mate.

5.) 18 Feb 2019 20:53:12
Cant argue with any of that mate, we need to build a team where players don't want to leave, its been too long since that was the case.

6.) 20 Feb 2019 05:27:47
The article said that he would rediscover his best form if moved there, not that it was a possibility, what would the director of football at ajax know about ne of this? I read an article saying jeff hendrick was going to come to arsenal to win the treble next year? what's your views on this guys and gals (im presuming that g62 is a right old tart)

7.) 20 Feb 2019 12:50:06
I'm not much of one for bearing grudges against ex players Jack mate especially if I understand there reason for leaving
It's easy to label Sanchez a money grabber but in truth there wasn't much footballing reason to stay with us.

8.) 23 Feb 2019 15:44:11
Bit of a random insult to g62 there? Or has that come out wrong?

"IMO our forwards and midfield players are much better players than those at Arsenal's. I'd stand by that even if we don't win the league this season. "

I read this on the Liverpool page and nearly choked on my coffee!

Gooner Jim

1.) 08 Apr 2024 18:06:50
To be fair Jim they are entitled to think that as many many fans of every club are unable to overcome their biases, if an opposing player goes down in their teams box it's always a clear and obvious dive to them and if one their players go down in the opposition box it's always a stonewall penalty every time, and both var and refs are always useless if they don't give it ?.

2.) 08 Apr 2024 18:30:49
Made me laugh also. Robertson, vvd, konate, taa, allison (best keeper in the world? ) Other than a rapidly declining Salah, the only decent part of their team is their defense!

{Ed025's Note - i think they are a very good side myself SW, Alisson is the best keeper in the world mate imo and MacAllister is excellent, VVD and TAA are very good as well, in Nunez and Diaz they have 2 very dangerous forwards and thats without Salah, they have a few good youngsters as well so when everyone is fit they are a force to be reckoned with, just my view of course....just dont tell anyone i said that.. :)

3.) 08 Apr 2024 19:36:16
Ii agree Ed025, Liverpool and City like Arsenal are where they are because of the fantastic players they have and the excellent way their managers get the best out of those players on a consistent basis.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but can be dramatically enhanced by the shirt those they are looking at are wearing and dramatically decreased if the shirt is just right ???.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely G62.. :)

4.) 08 Apr 2024 23:11:28
A very good side, ed025, but stronger in defence imo. How'd your combined 11 look?

For me:

Allison

White (sorry, trent is clearly class but not at rb)
Saliba
Vvd
Robertson

Salah (maybe, but I suspect he's close to being finished at this level)
Odegaard
Rice
McAllister
Saka

Ed025 upfront: jesus needs an upgrade and I cannot choose a striker with finishing as poor as Nunez.

{Ed025's Note - i would not change much there SW, maybe Trent for White and as you say Salah may need replacing sooner than later, Nunez would be an impact sub but that does look a very strong side mate..

5.) 09 Apr 2024 13:04:38
SW. no place for Havertz? Mal is going to be p*ssed!

01 Apr 2024 14:36:27
Ed25,

I understand you plastering all over these pages that yesterdays game was the 'most boring in history' etc.

However, how many times this season have Arsenal bored you with their play? We are the leagues top scorers and we also have the best defence of the 20 teams.

Yesterday we approached the game with the objective of not losing it. We achieved that objective and are still very much in with a chance of winning the title. Not many teams stop City from scoring against them and we have managed it twice this season. The only other team were Aston Villa.

I apologise on Arteta's behalf for all those who were bored yesterday. I couldn't care a less how we got that point though. It's not as if we approach every game in that manner.

Gooner Jim

{Ed025's Note - as i said previously Jim i have been impressed by Arsenal this season and the borefest yesterday was citys doing as well, there was a lot on the line mate and i get the cautious approach, but as a neutral im just expressing how deflating it was from a spectators view, i know you dont give a toss what people think and thats fair enough but these are 2 of the best teams in Europe for me and i cant help how i feel, good luck though even though playing Jesus was a mistake imo i think hes bloody useless..

1.) 01 Apr 2024 16:44:09
It's all about opinions, and I totally get why neutral fans were disappointed and felt let down by us not going for it yesterday, it's a bit like watching who wants to be a millionaire on TV and TV viewers all over the country urging the content who's on half a million to gamble everything for their entertainment, of course they want to know what would have happened because they themselves have absolutely nothing to lose either way, but for the contestant and their supporters there is everything to be lost as well as the jackpot to be gained by throwing caution to the wind.

Most Arsenal fans i know are over the moon happy with a draw at City, and just imagine how upset and really angry the tiny minority of Arsenal fans who aren't happy about yesterday's draw would have felt if we'd really gone for it and got stuffed 3 or 4 nil, yet again? They'd have then been calling the team and manager naive useless and been demanding change no doubt ?

You can please some of the people some of the time, and they are definitely the ones you should worry about and concentrate on in my book ???.

2.) 01 Apr 2024 17:09:17
Personally i didn't find the game to be boring. For me the game becomes boring when a team doesn't try or plays without a plan or if the other team is overwhelmingly superior. This game was tight and suspenseful, i had a real sense that it could go either way. So i liked the game very much and i'm reasonably happy with the result too :)

I don't think we wanted to defend that deep. We played our pressing game but City were so good at diffusing it we had to react by dropping deep. Then going forward we clearly wanted to simply bypass the press with a long ball and get the second ball. I feel like Raya's delivery was a bit subpar though and that meant we ended up surrendering possession to City a bit too often. I think those factors made the game a bit monotonous and that's probably the reason most people didn't enjoy it that much.

{Ed014's Note - I didn’t find it boring at all, we nullified them almost completely whilst making the best chances to win the game despite our lack of possession.

Arteta has been slagged off for a supposed lack of tactical nous but he’s being hitting that bollox out of the park all season!

3.) 01 Apr 2024 17:56:56
Hi Ice mate, we were heavily emotionally invested in the game and because the stakes were so high we couldn't switch off for minute, but I get the neutral point of view.

I have to say because it was against the world champions who have been consistently the best in England for some years now yesterday very much to be enjoyed and celebrated as a huge success ?.

4.) 01 Apr 2024 18:21:08
It was not a goal fest as some expected it to be especially with the amount of goals we have recently been putting away. For me we just could not afford to loose the game a win would be a bonus. A few seasons back and we played Totenham where a draw would have been sufficient for us and keptu son course for top 4, we blew it as we went out for the win and lost complete control of the game players good injured/ suspended and we lost top 4 spot too. Important thing is we are still init and we are still lokking good for the run in. For the mutual it may have been boring but for us Arsenal fans we live to fight another day. Agree with the sentiment that I don't think Jesus should be starting I think super sub for him at minute.

{Ed025's Note - it was a good result G4E there is no doubt about it, now the hard work starts where defeat is not an option which is a hell of a lot of pressure mate..

5.) 01 Apr 2024 19:19:41
Both games against city were boring, but every city game is boring. We took 4 points - who coulda expected that?!

6.) 02 Apr 2024 01:18:42
Agree guys our teams needs us the fans more than ever now. We need to pull together and push the team even further with our support the next 8 games now need to be treated as finals every time we can not afford any flip ups. Teams are going to be upping their games up against us that much more. Tottenham already have given up hope of getting champions league and now only see putting a dent in our stride as their number 1 ambition for the season. Come on you gooners let’s get behind the team manager n club.

7.) 02 Apr 2024 08:53:50
Hi G4 I think pretty much everyone is behind the team and manager mate, as for the run in hopefully in a few weeks we might meet 1 or 2 teams who's players already have their swimming trunks and suntan lotion on .

19 Jan 2023 18:36:11
Evening Ed (s) , How come there is no Brighton page? I wanted to find out what they thought of Trossard as a player.

Gooner Jim

{Ed001's Note - there has never been a call for one mate.}

1.) 20 Jan 2023 15:33:57
If there were one, you can be sure scattergun Todd would be all over it - could save himself billions.

11 Sep 2021 14:15:02
Sitting here watching the Palace game and seeing big Paddy back again has brought all the emotions out of me and I find myself reminiscing about when we were a great team.
Patrick Vieira. Now there is a true Arsenal legend. Just the name makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I have more love and respect for him than I do for the whole of the current team. I mean, who do we have in that role now. Xhaka? Granit bloody Xhaka! You should be flogged just for mentioning his name with Paddy's in the same sentence.
Go on Palace. You are definitely by second favourite team all the while the legend is there.

Gooner Jim

1.) 11 Sep 2021 14:24:05
Glad we didn't buy Emerson Royal at RB. Palace tormented him all game.

2.) 11 Sep 2021 15:01:45
Tell you what Jim mate
Been a Gooner for 56 years and when I think about my greatest Arsenal 11
sometimes I swap Seaman for Jennings and Campbell for Keown and a couple of other positions but Paddys name goes down every time along with Tony, Thierry and Dennis.

3.) 11 Sep 2021 15:20:50
100% Bill. I'm not quite old enough to remember Jennings (I'm 39) but Seaman, Adams, Paddy, Dennis and Thierry would be my first names too.

Now there is a player who knows what it's like to represent the club and what it means to the fans. Always gave his all, can't remember any bad games he had, and between him and Tony, the best captains we ever had. You simply cannot compare him to Arteta in any way shape or form. One day he'll come and manage us, I'm sure, and what an almighty life he would give to everyone connected with the club.

21 Aug 2021 18:19:16
If anyone is watching the Brighton game then how the love of God have Arsenal not tried to sign Bissouma?
What a player he is! He would be our best midfielder by a country mile.

Gooner Jim

1.) 21 Aug 2021 18:34:35
I enjoyed watching Brighton last year, they will give all teams a tough game, According to Transfer market, he's valued at 27.5 dollars.

{Ed014's Note - we had interest in him but he by all accounts wasn’t our first choice.

You couldn’t make it up! 🤦‍♂️

2.) 21 Aug 2021 18:39:27
I would have taken him over White all day long - nothing against him but I really don’t think he was a priority while CM and creativity was. Gutted he didn’t sign as I thought player 💯 wanted to join. That would have strengthened our starting 11 immensely. More than all the signings added together
So frustrating

I believe instead we have Granit on a new deal and Elneny being offered a new deal 😳.

{Ed014's Note - it’s a joke SY we have plenty that can go to get him, Xhaka, AMN and Elneny.

But no we’re keeping Xhaka! 🤦‍♂️

3.) 21 Aug 2021 18:46:08
Who was our first choice? Elneny

Clubs a joke.

{Ed014's Note - don’t know mate but it’s crazy keeping Xhaka and Elneny and not buying Bissouma!

4.) 21 Aug 2021 18:49:43
Ed, who was our first choice. Would love to know emoji was and what happened and where Bissouma was on the list.
He would have changed our side overnight. Him and S Partey together in midfield could have been a dream partnership but at least if injury prone Partey is out that we have a beast in there still

So so frustrating - didn’t really need White but crying out for Bissouma.

{Ed014's Note - you’d need to ask Ed02 SY as it was he who said that mate.

5.) 21 Aug 2021 18:51:55
Brighton manager has them playing great football

Dare I say he would be great choice to replace arteta.

{Ed077's Note - agreed 100%

6.) 21 Aug 2021 19:31:16
Absolutely Mark, Graham Potter has done an apprenticeship like no other, and passed each test with distinction.

He needs a big club to move to the next stage of his remarkable career and we need someone who has shown he knows what he is doing.

7.) 21 Aug 2021 20:30:09
I’d take him all day long and he can bring Bissouma with him

I like Brighton and he deserves a chance. Can’t believe we didn’t bet on him before Arteta in the first place. Let Arteta earn his strips elsewhere then compete for us. We are a big bloody club and we need to start acting that way.

8.) 21 Aug 2021 21:03:16
Quick question though lads. who you starting CM in January?

Because it wouldn’t be
Bissouma
Partey
Elneny
Xhaka probably would of been sold for him coming in.
Torreira

Leaves you very light of options. That could be a costly few weeks depending on how far their respective nations got.

9.) 21 Aug 2021 21:12:37
Glad it wasn’t just me thinking we paid 50m to Brighton for the wrong player.

10.) 21 Aug 2021 21:23:12
It's a decent point about January JG93 mate but I think people are looking at the bigger picture.

It's Mikels show and he should do what he feels right, but equally if it goes wrong them it's on Mikel and he should go the same way other managers go who can't hit the required standard.

I hope whoever our next manager is that he has absolutely no previous connection to the club and stands or falls by what he does rather than who he is.

11.) 21 Aug 2021 22:03:42
Well based on the effectiveness of Xhaka JG93, we could play someone plucked out of the local junior school 3rd XI, or maybe we could train a pigeon to tap the ball sideways a bit and forget to track the opposite midfielder into our box and watch him score, flapping his wings in frustration, but whoever, they probably wouldn’t be much worse.

12.) 21 Aug 2021 22:15:45
Yeah 62 mate, i get where you are all coming from, but this could be Mikel and Edu’s throw. So would they try and build a team where 4/ 5 players from the middle all leave in January for a few weeks, as we seen last season a tough run before or after Christmas can turn a season, if you change our pre xmas form we breeze into 5/ 6 place with how we finished the season. I think if it wasn’t Afcon year we might of gone in, especially with the type of rumours and links that were coming out.

Although i'm not extremely excited by the window, i feel we are strong for the future we have a lot of bright young players on the books, including those brought in this summer.

13.) 22 Aug 2021 07:58:57
Bissouma is very similar to Partey and Lokonga. And is an African as well. We need someone with different skillsets, that’s why Locatelli links! Rather Koopmeiners than Bissouma. Saying this we have lot of players to ship.

14.) 22 Aug 2021 08:40:16
Hi JG93 mate, the squad is and has been for some years better than its results and performances mate, and I absolutely agree with you there are some very good young players within the squad.

But our experience over the last 7 years in particular has been the more we spend the worse we get, why this keeps happening is surely the question that needs addressing.

I don't think there is another club that has spent anything close to what we have and either stood still or gone backwards like we have done.

15.) 22 Aug 2021 09:29:38
Yep good point 62, we have spent a load of money and actually gone backwards, it’s bizarre and equally frustrating.

16.) 22 Aug 2021 10:20:59
G62 sorry fellow not having ago but it’s seems a bit much talking about whoever the next manager is whilst the club already have a manager. Plus why does it matter if the person has previous connections with the club? Like you said it’s not the value of the player that matters but how he performs.

17.) 22 Aug 2021 11:47:36
Hi Yard mate, the reason I wouldn't like another ex Arsenal players as manager is the loyalty they automatically inherit rather than have to earn.

Fans love club connections and will accept far lower standards from someone they have good memories of.

Graham Potter or anyone with no former connection to the club would need to deliver to survive while ex players can get away with delivering far less.

For me it's all about what's good for Arsenal present not about keeping it warm and fuzzy because of the past, look where that's got us over the past decade.

Demon seems to think he is the font of all knowledge. Yes, Arsenal have been terrible for a while now, but in our worst season in decades we still finished above your lot by 16 points, so Arsenal would be a much more attractive proposition for him than staying in the Black Country. Have a good day.

Ed001 - Thanks for that summary, I enjoyed the read. One question I do have though. Have I missed somewhere the reason why Malaga calls you Trish? I see you sign off as Tris (Tristan I'm assuming) , so why Trish, which is short for Trisha (Patricia) ? Is it a private joke between the two of you?
