I've heard from a very credible source that Arsene has signed a bright and underated defender.

Shall we get the old team together - give it a go?

That run in the first clip! Any striker would be envious.

Manolis from Roma? Might be a decent shout - linked with him a few seasons back. Roma are out of champs league so possible temptation there?

MarvelousJoker

1.) 24 Aug 2016 08:34:31
But if Roma are out of the CL then so is he if he played for them in their defeat isn't he?

2.) 24 Aug 2016 09:05:38
I think, G62 (don't quote me on this mate! ) that if your club is knocked out in qualifiers, you can play for another team in the main competition.

I could be wrong, but that's what I'm thinking.

To be honest, I'd love Manolas at Arsenal, even if he were cup tied!
Roma are probably the only team I really follow as much as Arsenal (it's a family thing) even though I don't really 'support' them per say.

We should of bought Kostas when he left Olympiakos for like £12m but we were stingy and Roma reaped the rewards, he's a quick, strong aggressive defender, there's a bit of Koscielny about him I'd say.

3.) 24 Aug 2016 09:20:36
Don't tend to follow Italian football massively so guessing you rate him D. He seemed to have a bit about him a few years back and I'm sure he hasn't lost it. Still got a good few years in him so would probably be a good acquisition and would imagine the weekly wage wouldn't be too much.

On a side note, why Arsenal haven't increased Kos' money is beyond me - the guy got us out of so many holes in the last couple of seasons. I know he's classed as 'old' but JT for Chelsea is still going strong! He must be 87 odd now?

4.) 24 Aug 2016 11:58:19
I do personally yeah Joker!

He's had a decent two seasons at Roma, doesn't score many (like 2 in the league I think) but he's solid at the back, makes few mistakes, I think he gave away a couple pen's last season but one was very, very contentious (I forget against whom! ) he's vocal at the back and isn't afraid to shout at his own players, he even had an arguement with Miralem Pjanic in a game last season, because Pjanic miscontrolled a pass!
Apparently they were still arguing about it after the match.
He's only 25, a Greek international, champions league experience, a leader and no nonsense, I'd love him at Arsenal.

He had a good season for Roma last season, he's the man who leads the defence for the team, played most of his season alongside Antonio Rudiger or Leandro Castan who's now at Torino on loan, Digne went to Barcelona instead of making his loan at Roma permanent and Maicon moved away, so the Roma backline is pretty much new look apart from Manolas and Rudiger.
They have signed 3 Cb's this season, admittedly all 3 of which are on loan, but they now have 5senior players who play CB ( Manolas, Ruidger, Fazio, Juan Jesus and Vermaelen) Italian teams often have a really big squad, they're allowed more subs on the bench in domestic games than we are, 12 to our 7 but can still only call 3.

So, if they were to lose Kostas, which I'm sure they won't be open to, but a price was agreed, unlike many teams, Roma wouldn't need to scramble a replacement as desperately.

De Rossi can also play as a centre half and has done on occasion.
If anything, Roma's stocked up across their back line, so I personally think (just wanna point out I have NO evidence to back this up, I'm just applying my twisted logic) they'd be more open to selling a defender at this stage in the window, than say Valencia would, that said, I doubt they'd entertain anything less than £30m for Manolas, but in the current market, I'd argue he's probably worth that.

There you go Steve, I'm refreshed, revamped and the war and peace chapters are back!

Good post D keep it up.

Terrible result yesterday, but try not to take aim at Wenger too much.

Listen, the guy has done great things for our club (and Monaco while we are on it). Those who tuned into Sky before the game, they did a little montage about how he revolutionised their diets, player analysis etc - all the things that we have come to know from the modern game. Henry had nothing but praise for the guy and Kednapp said something along the lines of, "...when we went to England training camps we tried to emulate the diet that the players Wenger had worked with so we could improve as players and be as good as them". I think the problem lies with once these improvements had been made, there was no more revolutionary ideas to push the players on. Nobody else was doing it at the time and that's what brought the success.

To nick a quote from Die Hard (yes, we are going there), I just think Wenger is a Timex in a digital age. Laugh all you like about Rodgers, Van Gaal etc taking notes and using real time analysis in game but to be honest, that's how things are won and lost. We can all see from the comfort of our living room that we were pushing too far up the field and leaving ourselves exposed but down on the touch line, perhaps it is missed? The comments after the game show me that Wenger knows that once he has had a chance to reflect on it. "Suicidal defending". Need we say more. Perhaps he needs a better assistant. Leave Bould to work on the defence. Get a young assistant manager in to help him with some fresh ideas.

I'm all for bringing in new blood but the players themselves need to take responsibility for the result. Some of them were just plain awful. Every single one of them, on their day, can be a game changer. The problem is, they do not consistently perform at the level to be game changers. I am certain they all went into yesterdays game thinking that they could knock it about, ball over the top and we are 2, 3 or 4 up. Ozil has become a bit of a target in these games but he did more running than any other player on the pitch in the first half. All players have an off day, as I am sure most of us do, but if your looking for a reason why we lost that game, look no further than the starting 11. Ox and Walcott injected real urgency to that squad and we looked dangerous as soon as they were introduced.

You all call for his head but careful what you wish for. United have struggled this season with HUGE investment and a manager who has won it all. Who do you replace him with? Klopp? Come off it...

MarvelousJoker

1.) 26 Feb 2015 15:15:36
im happy to take that chance on change.

2.) 26 Feb 2015 16:11:37
Wenger is a great manager and be careful what you wish for. United fan here and games like last night happen, i still think you have a team that can make a go off it in the return leg.

3.) 26 Feb 2015 16:36:08
Careful what we wish for indeed. People wanted Klopp last season because of his antics in the German league. How many of those still want him when his team sits very far down the league table. Will they be in the Champions League next season - I very much doubt it.

United had the very same problem under Moyes. The players who won Fergie the title, suddenly became average and useless? Behave. They just couldn't be bothered to perform.

4.) 26 Feb 2015 17:33:46
Id take klopp still number 1 pick someone. Manu were winning titles only way was Down for new manager. Fergie was the best. Would he of settled for 4th. No way

Whoever comes in hopefully plugs a few holes we all see apart from Wenger and we go for it.

5.) 26 Feb 2015 22:16:30
I don't understand why you suddenly wouldn't rate Klopp based only on Dortmunds results this year? I rate Klopp based on his record over his career, and the way he has turned Dortmund into a top team, despite them regularly being plucked of their finest assets by their nearest rival. Saying all that goes out the window just because they were in the bottom 3 is no different from saying he us now the best manager in the world again because Dortmund have won their last 2 games. I also don't get the attitude that we can't replace Wenger because change can only be bad. Based on that analysis Southampton should be in the bottom half, but changing manager hasn't done them any harm.

6.) 26 Feb 2015 23:05:05
I meant simeone num1 pick

Today's papers seem to have given up with us signing forwards - today its defensive reinforcements!

Tiote (Newcastle) and Gabriel Paulista (Villarreal).

I do love January!

MarvelousJoker

1.) I think Paulista is a believable target, I don't know much about him though. I can't see us bringing in a DM this window but if we bring in a more experienced cb and I will be happy.

2.) I think AW will do is make do with what we have now (probably Coquelin plus a fit player from Wilshire, Ramsay, Cazorla or Flamini alongside if we go 2 in front of the defence) in anticipation of grabbing Schneiderlin in the summer. I kind of agree, I think Schneiderlin is probably one of the best holding midfielders around right now and its I'd rather tough it out till the Summer than buy someone not as good now.

Paulista looks almost certain to join judging by other sites, able to play at full back or in the middle, 24 years of age and Brazilian. ticks a few boxes!

Is Remy really a bad move? Personally I think the guy is a decent addition to the squad and would prefer him to come in rather than any other names being touted.
He managed to bang in 14 at Newcastle - with a much more creative midfield at Arsenal he could be a very smart buy at £8m. Him and Podolski can alternate and Wenger can bring through Sanogoal without putting too much pressure on the lad. let's hope we get the deal done tomorrow morning, after we win tonight!

Wenger will never pay the extortionate fees for Falcao so forget that one!

MarvelousJoker

1.) It wasn't so long ago that people were saying, "Wenger won't spend over £15-£20m on one player!"

Seems he's done that a couple of times now.

Never say never with Wenger! It's unlikely sure, but not beyond the realms of possibility!

2.) I am starting to see Dags point of view in that Remy surely would give the best Bang per buck ratio of any available striker. Trouble is, comments coming from the most important man in the equation, Mr Wenger, seems to suggest he believes we already have enough cover. Show me any other top club who in our situation wouldn't just slash out 10m for Remy without a second consideration? It seems that despite claiming we are back with the big boys someone is still maintaining the small club mentality at AFC? Come on Arsene, prove my fears wrong!

You do get some corporate loans contingent on certain personnel staying. A bank may advance a loan for the specific purpose of expansion only if a key member of staff stays because they have the experience to make it succeed. Same way you can purchase keyman insurance if a member of staff is crucial to your operations.

Not sure if that was true of Arsenal's loan though.

I am confused? Arsenal seem to be strengthening the defensive positions with quality players in January.

Have I slipped into a different world or is Kim Kallstrom lurking somewhere near London Colney? Has the press got the wrong name and we are buying Santos back perhaps?

I don't see the need to play him - give him a well deserved rest. We have theo and Gnarby back who can play in his general positions!

Exactly Samuel, Kante is done and signed at Chelsea now. He obviously fancied going Chelsea so off he went - I'd rather have a player who wants to play for the club than someone who is there for the money!

With all due respect RG, OG has been our only real striker and with our midfield, if you can't bag goals, you are better off doing something else.

"Top" strikers are available - you just have to pay the price. That's the point, we never pay them. Shoot back to the RvP saga - we wouldn't give him additional wages or show him the ambition he wanted so he went off to a club who did. End of.

The Ox above Theo any day. He's more direct, turns quicker and still has decent pace!
