Hey Ed's,
Just a quick holla to say the content on here has been great even this early in the window. I'm on this over a decade and the information being shared and dedication to the site never ceases to impress. Especially if, like me, you take the time to read Ed's posts on other clubs pages.
Special mention to Ed 002 and our own Ed of course.
On a personal level really hoping we can sign both Rice and Lavia, Castagne, and a proper out and out CF. The Havertz links is curious to me because he drifts in and out of games and I feel we need a robust forward who plays off the shoulder that would preoccupy and disrupt CBs.
Toney or Abraham type players.
Ed would you know if we are looking at this type of player or whether the Havertz interest is correct regarding discussions and interest being registered?
Also, have you any knowledge of the Rice deal and whether our reluctance to meet the asking price could entice rivals into trumping us? I only ask because I know from other pages you've alluded to the fact that other teams haven't declared an interest which made me wonder if we might have a gentleman's agreement in place?
Finally, could you give us your insight into what outgoings may materialise over the coming weeks? I'm hoping we might retain Balogun and give him an opportunity.
{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any Arsenal interest in Toney or Abrahams and there has been no formal offer for Havertz yet but his agent has told Chelse there is one coming and he has been speaking with Arsenal and Bayern Munich.}
1.) 18 Jun 2023 17:35:54
Hi Ed if you don`t mind just following on from Shambo are we talking / making an offer to Southampton for Lavia and have we stepped away from any Caicedo deal? Tried to find latest info but couldn`t find. Have a great week COYG.
{Ed002's Note - Southampton are in talks with another side for Lavia and Arsenal are pressing for Rice over MC.}
2.) 18 Jun 2023 17:40:12
Cheers Ed,
Appreciate the info.
Can’t understand the Havertz one myself as that money could be going towards an elite CF but Arteta clearly has an idea and system in mind should we sign him.
Any knowledge or update on whether we are close to meeting West Ham’s valuation of Rice?
{Ed002's Note - There is no agreement with West Ham right now but Arsenal will keep trying.}
3.) 18 Jun 2023 23:53:56
Ed Arsenal can be very trying at times lol.
4.) 19 Jun 2023 12:55:55
Is it true we’ve had a bid accepted for Lavia Ed? I know you say another club is in talks with Southampton I’m just curious as the source of this is usually verifiable.
Also can you confirm if the rival club for his signature is Chelsea?
{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware but there is interest.}
5.) 20 Jun 2023 05:12:03
Ed002 what’s your opinion on Declan Rice do you think he would be a sound investment for the money potentially we will be paying, just out of curiosity.
Thanks.
{Ed002's Note - He is a very good player but at a premium price.}
6.) 21 Jun 2023 07:05:49
Thanks Ed.
24 Jun 2022 09:43:23
Good morning Eds and gooner ladies and gents.
Quick questions for Ed 002. It's being reported an unnamed Prem club have tabled an offer which Leeds are seriously considering, rumoured to be close to £60M including add ons for Raphina. The fee part is irrelevant I'm just enquiring as to whether you might know if this unspecified club is Arsenal or if Chelsea or Spurs are looking to sign the player?
Also, hoping you might have some updates on Gabriel Jesus?
I know reports are everywhere of our interest but I'd just like to hear it from your good self as we've been down this road before and lost out on deals to more proactive clubs so like many my first stop each day of the transfer window is here for informed info.
Cheers.
{Ed002's Note - If this has happened this morning it would be unliklely it is Chelsea or Spurs as both have other priorities today.}
1.) 24 Jun 2022 10:51:47
Appreciate it Ed. Have a good one.
30 Mar 2022 12:16:50
Hey Ed's,
Hope your all well.
Can I just ask Ed 02 if you are aware of any details of the Guendouzi deal to Marseille as we've all heard there's an agreement in place for a permanent deal for a fee between €9-€12M.
I know we've done extremely well recently with regards to outgoings, as highlighted by a fellow poster on the banter page, but I still have a concern around how Arsenal negotiate and put a value on some of it if outgoings.
Auba and Ozil of course are obvious in that they went for free and the perception was we would save on wages, a mess all of our own doing originally.
But I do have concerns over deals like this and the Torreira one where our public urgency to be rid of an unwanted type of player diminishes his value when they are performing well about the rumoured sale price.
Other teams seem better at selling unwanted assets for surprisingly large fees at times and I'm curious about your opinion specific to Guendouzi at least.
{Ed002's Note - I can confirm that on July 1 Guendouzi will formally become a Marseille player under an obligation to buy. The player is very pleased with joining Marseille and fears they would sell him on for a profit have gone. Arsenal have struggled with selling players due to overpricing and not negotiating well - hence Granit Xhaka did not join Roma and Arsenal gave him a nice new contract. They have made errors with buying (Pepe is the best example) and have ended up in a situation where they need to buy two strikers in the summer.}
1.) 30 Mar 2022 21:15:11
Cheers Ed appreciate the reply ?.
2.) 31 Mar 2022 14:39:15
Arsenal have also struggled selling players due to the C.V. - as have many other clubs. It's only fair to acknowledge every side of the issue; it's not all the result of incompetence (though that certainly has played its part) .
11 Aug 2021 10:23:53
Morning Ed,
Could you clarify something for me?
If reports are true it's claimed Abraham has agreed terms with Arsenal.
How is this allowed when it appears Arsenal have not yet approached Chelsea with an official bid to rival that of Roma?
Are they doing the Arsenal thing when it comes to transfers here and looking for a more favourable price and risking losing the player by annoying the selling club with penny pinching because the Roma offer does not seem excessive at all.
Also could you give any insight you might have on the realistic opportunities to sign both Tolisso and B. Silva.
And just one last question, looking for your personal opinion here. Why, compared to other clubs, do Arsenal find it so difficult and why does it take them so long from when they begin negotiations to when they officially announce signings? I mean it happens all too regular where they are inept at getting their business done clean and quick and very rarely is it done in a way that gives the incoming player time to hit the ground running.
Cheers.
{Ed002's Note - His agent has permission to find him another club so it is fine by Chelsea - but I am not sure it is true. There was a lot of pressure on Tuesday for him to agree a move to Roma after rejecting Atalanta. Whilst he may want a move to Arsenal the club has not made an offer and Roma will push today to complete a deal.}
1.) 11 Aug 2021 10:39:04
Interesting Ed.
Are you aware of preferred targets or have Arsenal stopped looking for a striker based on ‘Lacca’ interest in our own strikers?
{Ed002's Note - I have explained all of this before so there is nothing new. Right now huge efforts are being made to sell players.}
2.) 11 Aug 2021 10:45:45
Hi Ed you mentioned a little while ago that Icardi is very much on Arsenal`s radar if he leaves PSG. With Messi arriving and likely he will get less game time is Icardi looking to leave? After all PSG need the money lol COYG.
{Ed002's Note - No. I have never said such a thing.}
3.) 11 Aug 2021 10:59:19
I read it again and I think it was wishful thinking on my part. I guess he is on Lazio`s radar not ours. Thanks again for info COYG.
4.) 11 Aug 2021 11:42:43
Cheers Ed. Appreciate the work and prompt reply. 👌💯.
05 Aug 2021 14:01:08
Hey Ed 002,
I know you don't like to speculate but could you give some insight into whether Arsenal are still actually looking to strengthen in these positions, GK, RB, CM or Striker?
If so, would you have any idea of who they are realistically targeting at this point?
Appreciate your time 👌.
{Ed002's Note - I don't think there is anything new in terms of targets and the club certainly want to add a G like Onana, a RB like Aarons or Dest, a midfield player, perhaps an AM rather than a CM, and a Striker. Serious efforts are being made to sell players.}
1.) 05 Aug 2021 15:04:15
Appreciate the insight and quick response Ed. 👌💯.
2.) 05 Aug 2021 15:12:58
Interesting Ed, do you think it's just the market in which it is tough to sell and basically find buyers willing to pay bare minimum or Arsenal are simply not good in selling these players? Because the reports suggest enough interest in few of these players we want to sell.
{Ed002's Note - The Xhaka deal was killed by Arsenal asking too much. There are huge efforts being made to try and sell players now.}
3.) 05 Aug 2021 20:08:45
Ed has/ is Declan Rice been of interest to Arsenal?
Think he’d be perfect for us.
{Ed002's Note - No.}
4.) 05 Aug 2021 20:46:53
Dammit!
Thanks for the quick response Ed 🤙ðŸ¼.
5.) 07 Aug 2021 10:44:15
Music to my ears Ed, you mentioning Onana. These Ramsdale links are keeping me up at night. I just can’t see what the appeal is. For me he’s Kepa on his worst days.
{Ed002's Note - Onana is an option but there remains the interest of another side who would likely be more attractive to the player - hence the Ramsdale option.}

Alright fellas, it's looks like the club are making serious moves right now on the recruitment front that could see the additions of Rice, Timber and Havertz who is all but confirmed.
If the links to Lavia are true then this would represent a massive step up in intent from the club and I truly believe it secures our status as the team to be once again closest to City come seasons end.
That being said, our attention must soon turn to recouping some of the significant outlay.
Here's what I feel should be minimum acceptable offers if we are to adopt the same approach as some of the clubs that we have been interacting with in the current market.
Partey £35-£40M. Talk of £20M is outrageous. The only reason we got him for £45/ 50 from Athleti was because of his buy out. He was valued at over £65 by them and Simeone. His stock has not halved since being with us. £40M minimum.
Tierney £30M. We took a risk on him being able to step up from what's considered a lesser league. To take the same fee we gave Celtic, who rejected numerous bids to get their asking price, now that he's proven himself at the top level, would make little to no sense at all.
Xhaka. International long time captain coming off his best season. Has added goals and assists to his game and eradicated his poor disciplinary record last season. It could be argued he's worth more but minimum of £17M for him.
Nketiah. Continues to talk himself up during transfer windows rather than show consistency in his performances. Offers very little with regards to assists or enhancing those around him. Has had his time. £25M should be sought as there is a player there once he learns to humble himself to be a greater asset to a collective.
Tavares. £15M minimum, albeit a streaky player, in a certain system he could provide dynamic attacking options from a wing back role. Ideal for an Italian side and he has goals in his game.
Lokonga. Essentially still living off reputation from others in the game and hasn't showcases anything near the level of Lavia who is similar age and profile. Kompany is rumoured to be a fan. £12-£15M based on our own outlay when signing him.
Holding. In todays market we could get £8M, maybe from a Southampton or similar club in the Championship with promotion aspirations like a Boro or Watford. Most likely we only get £6M due to the fact he has shown how limited he can be, not ability wise, but mentality wise.
Cedric. Another in the Holding ballpark for mostly the same reasons. Most likely £5-7M to a newly promoted side or possibly return to Portugal.
With these sales you're looking at generating over £150 whilst only losing two key starters in Partey and Xhaka. Personally I wouldn't like to see Tierney go but Arteta has indicated he's not in his plans with how little he used him last season, especially when Zinchenko was unavailable and he played Tomi and then Partey as a fb moving Whyte to LB.
That would leave us with a net spend of £100M if Rice, Havertz, Lavia and Timber are secured.
Balogun gets a season to prove himself where Nketiah could not, Tomiyasu once fit is an able deputy to both Zinchenko and Timber.
Of course it could still be argued we need an elite CF but this would represent fantastic business in my opinion, thoughts?
1.) 28 Jun 2023 12:39:15
The only player in your excellent post I am not sure about Shambo is Balogun. Its reported he wants guaranteed playing time and won't go out on loan again. I'm not sure those demands would sit well with Arteta. Of course these reports could all be rubbish but I've seen them quite a lot.
2.) 28 Jun 2023 13:43:59
I don’t think any footballer should be demanding guaranteed playing time Sally, I worry when I hear that about a players self belief and competitive nature to be making such statements.
I think what Balogun wants is assurances he will not be loaned out and that he will be given opportunities to earn a pathway into the starting 11 in the way it has been afforded to Nketiah the last few seasons.
I think Balogun is an upgrade on Nketiah and I’m sorry to say I really think he has failed to show the type of consistency and range of skill sets needed to be an effective CF at the levels we now need to reach.
At least Balogun grabbed his opportunities on loan to showcase his abilities.
I think that gives him the edge Sally. If we don’t keep one of the two it leaves us returning to the market again and I really can’t see us speculating so much money if the deals for Rice, Havertz, Timber and Lavia come to fruition.
I think that could be it and Arteta might feel he has enough versatility among the group to challenge on all fronts.
Who do you see leaving?
3.) 28 Jun 2023 14:12:14
Excellent post Shambo mate. Like you not a big fan of Eddie and I think its time to say goodbye. Balogun I am not fully convinced and wouldn't mind him going to another prem club on loan to see if he can cut it.
Partey I can see where your valuation comes from, but I think we would struggle to get 40m for him, probably closer to 30m. Tierney agree with you again, but he clearly doesn't fit into Artetas plan. Loving the idea of getting the transfers done early then we can concentrate on shifting the out goings.
Just like to add that our latest offer for Rice should be our last.
4.) 28 Jun 2023 17:13:36
I think I'd let Nketiah go Shambo. Lakonga perhaps a loan.
Sell Tavares, Holding, Soares.
I'd love to keep Tierney but it looks like that isn't to be. He obviously deserves regular football.
Partey is a strange one for various reasons.
If his family didn't want him to move to Germany I'd keep Xhaka for another year.
So I'd keep Tomi, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Viera, ESR, Odegaard, Jorghino, Saka, Jesus and Martinelli
And try and bring in an out and out striker and with (hopefully) Rice, Havertz and the other youngster we are linked with (forgotten his name) I reckon we will do well next season.
Bet I've forgotten someone lol.
5.) 28 Jun 2023 20:27:49
Yup forgot White, he's a keeper.
{Ed025's Note - well hes certainly not a defender sally..
6.) 28 Jun 2023 20:29:33
And our 2 keepers are keepers lol.
7.) 28 Jun 2023 22:01:09
For me, Viera gets one more season to show what he is worth, but saying that, for what we paid for him versus the supposed amount Maddison will go for, I would probably sell if we could get our money back.
22 Jan 2023 09:01:02
Big one today folks.
What we thinking? My heart would love to see us take the W and put all these Man Utd fans talk of being in the title race to bed. Head says it's going to be a throwback game that's going to ebb and flow with both teams chasing the win.
Problem for us is that this suits them more than us because their set up to counter.
If we nullify Bruno before he can transition their play we win comfortably.
If we can't do that I'm thinking a cracker with goals galore and we can hopefully pip them with Trossard making the difference off the bench. here's hoping.
COYGs.
1.) 22 Jan 2023 09:51:56
I think it will be a very tight game tactically Shambo. I don't think Ten Have would see a draw a minus like we would, so I am going 2-1 us.
2.) 22 Jan 2023 12:30:59
I think if we control the midfield we’ll win, hopefully Xhaka will be on his game to help Odegaard and Partey to continue the good form.
Still ABBA!
3.) 22 Jan 2023 13:24:33
Could be 4 0 to the Arsenal with a sensational performance or could be 1 0 to the Arsenal in a game we are lucky to win, I've no idea how but definitely think 3pts to the Arsenal ❤❤❤❤.
28 Aug 2021 12:26:39
Well Ed hope your weekends going well.
Just want to tap into your potential knowledge on something that's been annoying me.
Regarding Willian.
{Ed002's Note - I am not interested in discussing the finances - it causes confusion.}
08 Jul 2023 20:08:18
Cheers Ed appreciate the response enjoy your weekend
08 Jul 2023 16:56:21
Do you think the rumours of a straight swap of Tierney for Cancelo have any legs Ed?
{Ed002's Note - Manchester City have a preferred target and I am not aware about a swap being discussed.}
02 Jul 2023 18:11:26
We’d have do be selling Gabriel surely to accommodate that… something I for one would not be adverse to.
22 Jun 2023 15:47:53
If reports are to believed Arsenal may not be as well placed as they thought they were with news of an imminent City bid and reports that Rice is open to all offers.
Arsenal in danger here of looking foolish once again in their approach to signing a big time player only to see a hungrier club come in and swat us aside.
If this deal goes the same way as precious one’s questions need to be asked here.
Especially surrounding the Havertz deal because you can’t tell any reasonable person with half a football brain and functioning eyeballs that some of that Havertz money would have been much better served going towards securing Rice.
19 Jun 2023 12:55:55
Is it true we’ve had a bid accepted for Lavia Ed? I know you say another club is in talks with Southampton I’m just curious as the source of this is usually verifiable.
Also can you confirm if the rival club for his signature is Chelsea?
{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware but there is interest.}
13 Aug 2023 23:36:33
Agree Ed.
But there will be games when the inferiority of the opposition or extra levels of those around him will see him perform and this is where you’ll have the argument for him made by fellow fans who feel he’s being hard done by.
The simple reality is that, no matter what club he had joined in what league, he was always going to have questions to answer based on his own attitude and standard of performance at Chelsea.
You would expect a player with a point to prove coming in under the direction of a manager who has backed him with another big money move, to showcase a desire to repay that faith, get the fan base on his side and set out to put a marker down to prove all his dissenters wrong.
There was very little evidence of that type of professional pride or drive on display yesterday. Yes, anyone is entitled to an off day or sub tomorrow at display. But as Ed is alluding to what is concerning is his Ozil-like indifference to his lack of influence on a game. He quite literally does not go out of his comfort zone to try inject creativity or stand up and change the momentum in a game.
He plays like a man who thinks it’s everybody else’s job to retrieve the ball and get it for him when he’s dropped off the pace into a non threatening area where the opponent is quite happy to allow him have possession relatively unchallenged where he will then play a ‘paint by numbers’ 10 yard pass to Martinelli to ask him to take someone on.
It’s not going to be enough and serious questions may need to be asked about the acquisition when all is said and done because there’s no way he offers more than ESR and to be honest if it was Fabio Vieira performing like that fans would be on his back.
I don’t think too many displays like yesterday will be tolerated, what do y’all think?
{Ed014's Note - agree mate, the fact I didn’t see him do anything to make his presence felt was a real concern. The simple pass and little movement could be achieved by me and you.
He even gave up on a ball at one point in the game with effort he could have got too.
I don’t want to have a downer on him but as you said a big E for effort would be a massive starter.
Partey, like Ryan said, is a quality player on the ball and he Rice and Odegaard right now is where our midfield would be strongest.
Let’s hope he is just settling in and shows us we don’t have a clue what we’re talking about.
13 Aug 2023 21:49:46
I’m inclined to agree Oracle. Havertz was very slow in possession and very predictable. If his role is to progress play through transition then he was badly found wanting yesterday.
He had very little intensity off the ball and when we had it he simply dropped into non threatening pockets of space to play a predicable and slow paced ball often so slowly that it had little to no impact.
Concerning if I’m honest. Not just his lack of aggression in the first game of the season, but also the fact Arteta opts to play him here. I’d love to know what he’s seeing in training everyday to justify selection because better sides will steamroll him if this is his idea of hitting the ground running and laying down a marker.
I know people are going to leap to his defence, but we’re not on hear calling for his head, merely calling a spade a spade and these were concerns I, among others, expressed could pose problems for us.
Havertz needs an attitude overhaul not just a change of scenery where he’s afforded the luxury of playing with the handbrake on while everybody else is expected to haul ass on the pitch.
There’s a phrase as old as the game itself; ‘if you can’t play well, work hard’.
If your going to do neither, you can expect to hear about it.
{Ed014's Note - it’s one game but he doesn’t do it for me, a pretty huge downgrade on Xhaka if that’s whose place he’s genuinely there to fill.
He sadly gives me massive Ozil vibes.
29 Jul 2023 11:38:56
Fitting tribute and long overdue.
Like everything that illuminates or brings joy to our life, maybe, we didn’t fully appreciate it while we had it!
Looking back now at some of the great moments, we were truly blessed to have him revolutionise our club and the game itself.
23 Jul 2023 14:51:43
Jegooner,
Two things can be true simultaneously mate. I don’t see how he’s getting a kicking when people objectively highlight deficiencies he continues to demonstrate and by the same token he of course should and will be afforded time to gel and be supported like any other donning the shirt.
But surely we can agree there’s an expected standard, whether it’s a friendly or champions league final.
Our manager made the squad train afterwards on the pitch so I’m sure you can imagine where he stands on that point.
It was only a friendly guys, in the same way if we’d won 5-0 it’s means nothing really this is the same resul wise. But you use these games to try things and to learn about certain scenarios and I’m telling you we will get undone by good managers and good dynamic attacking sides if Odegaard and Havertz occupy 2/ 3 midfield positions. They are too easy to play through and against and it would leave us wide open. You wouldn’t play Fabio Vieira there so why Havertz?
23 Jul 2023 10:33:48
It’s not our job to give him a chance Malaga. It’s the managers.
It’s our job to cheer him on while on the pitch then apply critical thinking when assessing his performance after we’ve given that unconditional support throughout the game.
You are minimising peoples rightful doubts by reducing the argument to one performance and also pointing to a previous completely different mindset of player to use as some hypothetical formula for future success.
You are hoping an outcome will materialise for Havertz with no other evidence other than the fact Xhaka improved under Arteta while most of us on the other side of the argument are saying the problem is not one isolated game or preseason form.
It is, as I’ve stated before on here, his mental fragility and indifference when his team is up against it. He is perfectly content to float through a game (or season last year if you watched Chelsea) without going outside his comfort zone to try turn the tide of a game by injecting intensity into his game or seeking to find onfield solutions outside what he considers the managers tactical expectations of him. Quite bluntly, he goes hiding.
If one thing was proven last night, it’s that if we’re going to play a trio in midfield, 2 of those players cannot be Odegaard and Havertz. It can’t work because they don’t smell danger early enough and so much space open for opposition to counter attack from wide and almost instantly our holding midfielder and back 4 are exposed and we don’t have good enough defenders at LB or in Gabriel at CB to defend such overloads running from midfield or wide areas.
Havertz was a mistake. Not because there isn’t a player there, but because we don’t need him. He’s not the 8 we needed, he’s demonstrated it nowhere and that £65M could have got you an Ivan Toney CF with plenty of change leftover.
Tactically astute managers with pacey dynamic players in their midfield and wide areas will expose us this season if Havertz and Odegaard play as positioned last night, and because Arteta can be stubborn in his pragmatic approach I think we could see this very early in our season if it’s not addressed quickly because a team like Brighton would spank us as they did at seasons end let alone what Klopp and Pep would do if they seen us select a midfield trio comprised of those two.
It’s a genuine concern I would say Malaga.
