Great win yesterday, good solid win, tactics, team selection, mental attitude, all there.Just like to make my point about Emery.I think it was quite clear in the end he was not up to the job,I can see why Arsenal appointed him.I personally was over the moon when he came, simply for his 3 Europa Cup wins, and 20 odd game unbeaten streak right at the beginning of his tenure.I was also very Happy when we appointed Mikel,I am sure there will be a few hiccups on the way,but given time and money I think he is the man who can take us back to consistently winners trophies

1.) 05 Jul 2020 15:07:27
Personally I was delighted to see Emery arrive TG mate but if honest I was just happy we had finally moved on from Arsene who was unfortunately taking us nowhere in the end.
I always knew and I said at the time Arsene announced he was leaving it might well take us 2 3 4 or 5 attempts to find our next title winning manager before we get it right and if we've got it right second time round with Arteta we've done extremely well in my opinion.
United are 4 attempts and counting since Sir Alex
Liverpool had how many attempts between Dalglish mk1 and Klopp?
And Spurs have had more goes at replacing Bill Nicholson than Britain's got Talent have had people audition for the show.
We weren't exactly inundated with options before offering Mikel the job but hopefully that will turn out to be a lucky thing in the end, who knows.

{Ed002's Note - He was far from first choice for Arsenal. If they can sort out the issues with the structure they can get a good Technical Director and then they stand some chance of getting a leading coach (be it Arteta in the long term or someone else). The issue that still needs fixing is the management structure.

2.) 05 Jul 2020 15:35:39
Absolutely Ed002, I think we need someone to take the lead and set the whole club back on track.
Forcing Sven out was an absolutely huge mistake and far bigger lost to the club even than letting Auba leave would be, for me Sven was our best signing in years.

3.) 05 Jul 2020 23:58:48
The departure of sven was a backwards step in my opinion. we need a good technical director. ama fraid Edu is not up to the task. i thought when he joined we will be signing hot brazilian prospects but none is happening. All the best young brazilian players are going to real madrid. Yes he signed martinelli but martinelli is not on the level of players like renier and guimares. we seem to be signing rejects!

I am not liking Raul and his so called contacts book. I can understand signing pablo mari but why give a 4 year contract to a 29 year old southampton reject? He makes so many decisions that don't make financial sense. Why sign players using mainly super agents? Has anyone noticed that since Raul joined we seem to be signing players with super agents especially kia joorabchian? The same agent that wenger didn't want to deal with and reason being they are shady.

Done City in the semi final 3 years ago then went onto beat Chelsea in the final.

1.) 28 Jun 2020 21:29:42
Yes and that Chelsea were run away champions too so much stronger than the current Chelsea but! Unfortunately this City are way way better than the 2017 City.

Still it's the fa cup and anything can happen, in the 2017 final we had to bring back Mertersacker who hadn't played all season because we were so short of defenders for the final and play the rookie Rob Holding next to him plus Ox at left wing back and we very deservedly beat overwhelming favourites Chelsea that day.

2.) 29 Jun 2020 07:27:27
With the PL over and the CL delayed til August, City will be focusing on the FA cup. Their team is better than 2017, ours is worse. Empty stadium doesn't help either. Have we ever won against a Pep City team?
But, at least its the one cup our players should feel capable of winning. Mon the impossible dream!

3.) 29 Jun 2020 07:51:36
Yeah 62 even though Costa scored, Holding had a great game and Per was magnificent. Shame Arsene didn't make it is bow out game.

4.) 29 Jun 2020 10:01:33
Yes Sir Wenger Pep was City manager in that SF mate.
5 years ago despite already being well into our owm steady decline we were in better shape than both United and Liverpool were so let's hope next season we see some real genuine signs of an Arsenal turnaround too.

On a different subject, obviously Pep and Klopp are in that very special small band of elite managers is Nuno at Wolves a genuine candidate to join that elite band in the years ahead? Him and Wolves side show no signs of being a flash in the pan after 3 unbelievably brilliant seasons together especially if they make top 4 this season it would be an incredible achievement.

5.) 29 Jun 2020 12:16:01
For me Arsene should have gone after beating Hull in 2014 TG mate, his poor decisions cost us the title that season after we were top on new years day.
Ramsey was injured and Giroud absolutely knackered by January and it was plain for everyone to see we needed some reinforcement to finish the job but Arsene brought in the already injured Kim Kslstrom on loan and we dropped from 1st to 6th place before a late rally saw us finally pip Everton for 4th, that was the season I finally accepted Arsene had lost his magic and was to longer capable of making the big decisions when necessary.

6.) 29 Jun 2020 22:16:21
Sorry g62, I forgot he'd been around that long already! Thanks for being gentle.

7.) 30 Jun 2020 13:19:06
No problem SW mate, I had time Google it to be 100% certain.

Fingers crossed - still trying to work out the line up.

1 1 after extra time for me.

3.) 28 Jun 2020 15:06:44
Spot on TG!

24 Jun 2020 17:05:04
I got a couple of Chelsea, season ticket holders at work and they have all said at some stage of Luiz Chelsea career that he is no defender but the general consensus at the Bridge is he would make a very good dm but as never really had a good run of games at it. The signing of Soares, I just don't get. So really in my opinion, Mustafi, Sokratis, Soares 👎👎👎
Luiz I would, take a, chance, purely to see if he can get a, run at DM with perhaps, as The Ed suggested, Torreira.

1.) 24 Jun 2020 17:43:24
I've always felt he was Taylor made for DM come sweeper TG but I can fully understand why many gooners don't want him to stay. We've collectively had an absolutely horrible season and he's made some awful individual errors so he's bound to be a focal point of people's frustrations.

2.) 24 Jun 2020 20:13:21
I’d rather play with 10 men than Luiz in defence. He turned the game around when he came on the other day. I don’t think he’s disciplined enough or thinks quick enough for CDM either. He’s purely there for Hollywood passes which is a waste of a defender. I’d rather we purchased a proper CDM than shoehorn him into midfield where he will daydream again and get out of position or watch players run past him.

Should have cut our losses with him. We had a chance to move forward. Again, the club choices and idiotic option. I really give up working our club out.

3.) 24 Jun 2020 20:25:01
It's Mikels choice mate and if next season Luis is brilliant he will rightly get the plaudits and of course if he's not right?

4.) 24 Jun 2020 20:27:58
Per Edu he was signed for.

“David (Luiz) is a really important player for us. He has played most of our matches this season and has been important for the team. His passing, communication with the team on and off the pitch. He helps everyone. ”

So not his defensive qualities, leadership, winning mentality or ability to organise a defence. But most importantly for a side with a porous defence - his passing. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️.

5.) 24 Jun 2020 20:51:01
It's not the first and I very much doubt it will be the last strange thing those running the club have ever said mate. Those who make the decisions including Arsene Emery and Artetta have all baffled us for years now, each and every year without fail fans are left with what the? Feeling.

23 Jun 2020 08:18:01
Massive good point, Glenn about using the academy, the answer to some of the problems might be right on your, doorstep. We have got some good young players coming thru and I hope Mikel with Freddie's and the BFG help we can get the best out of them. The squad does need definitely tweaking but as I said in a, earlier post, for me the biggest problem at the moment is our mental toughness or lack of it.

1.) 23 Jun 2020 08:40:05
Exactly mate. Don't get me wrong, too much youth can be a risk and you do need to find the right balance but don't have any at the moment! We have a well respected academy for a reason and these players will want it more. They'll put in the effort and I can only expect our players to gel better with better performances on the pitch. We'll see ay 😬.

2.) 23 Jun 2020 10:43:47
Given our financial position going youth and raw bargain buys seems like the most sensible option to me.
Who's really up for yet another season of Mustafi and Xhaka and co going through the motions? It's just and endless circle of dullness.
With young players there would be new hope new patience new interest where set backs would be accepted and tolerated because people would see how the future could be different apoosed to the same endless monotonous circle of decline where new players come in with a fanfare of excitement in the summer and by January have already joined the existing players as disappointments.
Obviously not all young players or raw bargain buys would come good but how many of our 20 30 40 50 and 70 million players we've signed have come good?
Absolutely nothing to lose in my opinion as we are just sinking fast both on and off the pitch with our previous and current strategies.

3.) 24 Jun 2020 09:10:24
It’s definitely some embarrassing time now to be an Arsenal fan it’s like these failures are becoming an inherent trait, but there’s a sense of ridicule about it so that shows people expect better so make fun of the failures. Even at schoolboy level you would fight to restore pride just by recognising you are part of a group where greatness had been before.

Where can I start on the team itself? Well I watched the first game and my first criticism is against the manager. I wanted to see him at the club and was happy he came and I am not asking for him to leave but his seems to not have been in a good place throughout the match.

I thought he playing Shaka on the right was shocking more so with Pepe and Reiss being on the bench. The kid looks so natural playing LW he should only play there unless it is due to injury in LB. So with Tierney and Kolasinac also in the squad there should be only one place for him. That takes us to Auba who occupies LW he is good but his he good enough to carry the team? I don’t think so he’s good enough to rescue them at times yes. So play him central or let me go and let Lacazette go his confidence is too low for too long in such a tough league. He’s not showing the quality to lead the line for a club of our ambition. I like Jonathan David he seems a true natural but can we improve him and would it complicate things already having Martinelli?

Pepe should be played every game and be rotated with Reiss in each game when necessary until the better man wins. Arteta did say he wants a specialist in every position so drop this old habit in the club of playing players out of positions especially when there is no injury problems. Repetition is the father of all learning. Guendouzi seems like he needs a bridle and cajoling in games or he may end up being wasted. He needs a proper DM to play alongside who will bring experience and guidance to the team on a whole. Willock needs help as well to mature in football terms. These young players appearing to be grow up playing football at this level without football intelligence.

I cannot see Saliba being our saviour in his first season maybe not enough his second so I still think we should buy experience in the EPL. Realistic who is available or who could we get? I would say Issa Diop or Lewis Dunk with either playing along side Saliba or Mari (I believe he will had value) . Mav and holding probably can stay get rid of the others when you can.

This is my thought so essentially I believe a quality experience DM and CB this transfer window could improve us and CF if we lost or let both go. Then maybe and hopefully the circa £100m may come good with the exception of Luiz.

I can’t see how they cannot have some decent money to spend in the winner. The last window net spend was circa £118 but if reports are correct we payed an initial £20m with the rest over 5 years so we are talking c £66m. Yes revenue continues to drop help by our league position and stagnant wages but for a club who have been mostly fugal there has to some reserve, new arrangement for cash injection to keep the stable. At the end of the day in today’s world money can win you the league as some of us refused to believe before Chelsea and Man City did it. So money can help you to get back and remain the top four at least. Money goes to money.

For me its flat, the fans are such a massive part of our game, its a struggle to get into the game. Worryingly a lot of workmates have said they haven't really missed the footie.

Really no one, as I already said, its mental toughness and discipline from the current squad and Arteta to do the business.
