Hello People Haven't posted on here in a dogs age.

Ed01/ 02 Is there any truth to the Johnny Evans rumour? Or is it paper talk?

Ulster Gunner

{Ed001's Note - no truth that I am aware of, he is not a player that has been tracked so it would be a surprise if it were true.}

1.) 31 Jul 2016 23:21:52
Cheers pal for the quick reply. Seemed a bit far fetched ta me.

He's getting some jibes threw his way while there's shouts for Ashley Williams lol.

One more thing. You say he hasn't been tracked but with the Merts injury, is it possible Wenger could now move for players based on his own knowledge of them in the league rather than assessing them through the scouting system?

{Ed001's Note - it is perfectly possible, but I believe this to be a joke based on Evans' injury history. My opinion is that someone has thought it would be hilarious to pick injury prone players to link Arsenal to.}

2.) 01 Aug 2016 04:52:49
that is a huge relief. thanks Ed. hopefully Mustafi is the man we end up with.

anyone seen the glorious bargain bin buys wenger is looking at to shore up our defensive worries?

yobo!

lugano!

aren't we lucky? in saying that, the other name mentioned was lassana diarra, who may not be completely terrible if it were true. can't do any worse than arteta.

Now that Liverpool's moving for Ballotelli, is there any interest from Arsenal for PSGs Lavezzi?

We are talking to them about rabiot and have been linked with Cavani. He is available, so logic would suggest he might have been discussed. Have you any information Ed?

Ulster Gunner

{Ed002's Note - I cannot see what Liverpool would have to do with Lavezzi. Lavezzi is available and his representative visited London and spoke with Arsenal in March. Arsenal could make an offer, but have not so far. Lavezzi seems keen on a return to Italy.}

1.) Cheers for the info mate. Liverpools been linked with him all summer that's what he had to do with it

Fancy an AFC banter page wager as to who is going to be Palace's next manager?

Im guessing Steve Clarke

Ulster Gunner

{Ed025's Note - neil lennon...just a guess..

1.) I think ed might be right, but I think Steve Clarke is the better manager of the two.

{Ed025's Note - i agree CS, so lets hope they get lennon hey.. :)

2.) 15 Aug 2014 00:43:44
Alan Curbishley

3.) Malky MacKay for Paloce, and a tenner on Pulis for West Ham before xmas.

The situation regarding Arteta is intriguing .

If the interest from Athletic is true, what sort of time scale is in play before they change targets.

Do we buy Carvalho before we let him leave?

Would they want him before they play their champions league qualifier?

If he hasn't transferred at that point and we play him in our own qualifying round is he then cup tied or does that stipulation only come into effect in the champions league actual?

If we get drawn to face Bilbao do we let him go only after the match or does he line up against us for his first competitive match since the transfer? Would their offer still stand if we tried this?

The bits of information coming out of his camp seems to suggest that he wants to stay with us but is waiting on Wenger to pull the trigger one way or the other.

I'm watching this space with great interest, I think its going to play a key role in whether we are going to sign William Carvalho.

That's a woeful first 45 right there!

Really need to pull the finger out for the 2nd half.

Even with a fully fit squad, Johnny Evans would walk into our first team. 2nd only to Kos. Better that Mert, better than Gab and I would honestly say I would rather see him at LB than Gibbs.

Has captained his country at international level, was a beast at the Euro's. Northern Ireland went as far as England and probably should have put Wales out. Success in France was largely to do with some real lion hearted defending which he was a big part of.

We've been linked before an apparently Fergie didn't want to sell him to us. Look at the comments Pulis made about him recently. Positively glowing. Say what you want about Tony Pulis but he knows defenders, you just have to watch his teams.

At todays market prices, 16m is a snip for such experience and versatility. Played his whole career in English football, won't need to adapt.

I'd be delighted if we signed him. If his name was Jorge Evinho we wouldn't even be having this debate.

LETS SIGN THE EVERTON FLOP FOR 30M YAY! He's the right nationality with a more continental sounding name.

Some of you showing real uneducated snobbery. Makes me question if you even watch football or just play FIFA.

Sylvestre PFFFFFT.

Ulster Gunner

{Ed025's Note - your emerald eyes are clouding your judgement im afraid ulster, united ditched evans because he was a liabilty and did you see the state of that defence over the last 2 years?...hes garbage mate believe me..

1.) 20 Aug 2016 14:51:38
UG

Ed is spot on mate, love your loyalty mate.

2.) 20 Aug 2016 15:01:19
Welsh gooner has always raved about William for years and Dags is an Elneny fanatic, birds of a feather?

3.) 20 Aug 2016 15:06:17
No mate not clouded. I just follow My countrymen closely. At UTD he was behind Rio and Vidic for a large part. I strongly believe that he could do a far better job than he's getting credit for.

If I had to pick between Him or Hummels or Kompany obviously I'd pick one of the later. But we all know that's not going to happen. At international level he has to do a backs to the wall job for nearly 90 minutes of every game and he does it well.

I believe that's what we need. A no nonsense defender leader and organiser and in todays market, he's as good as 16m will get you.

4.) 20 Aug 2016 15:32:55
Its all about opinion mate, for me Williams is far better and cheaper too.

5.) 20 Aug 2016 16:30:26
Jonny evans is not upto standard for us. he's band average at absolute best.

6.) 20 Aug 2016 18:32:10
Ulster,
You been hanging out with Raver?

Say maybe to drugs buddy :-)

7.) 26 Aug 2016 21:52:07
I think there will be a broad sense of relief if we get these two signings on the books. Good bad or ugly we will have options which is surely better than nothing.

My two bob:

Never seen Perez play in a live match like a lot of people have confessed to. Watching clips of his goals last season though he seems like a proficient finisher which we are definitely lacking. It seemed to me like a lot of his highlight reel was based on the counter attack. One on Ones looked good and inter play moving forward. Fingers crossed this squads made for him to thrive. If nothing else it takes pressure of Theo who seems to struggle under the strain and puts pressure on Giroud who seems to thrive when his spots threatened.

Mustafi imo is the risk. That's a high and totally unjustified fee. He will be under the spotlight to perform well from the get go. How long will it take the media to get on his back after a few below par performances? They seem to take a special pleasure in hounding us. Looked good in la liga? So did Gabriel.

In saying that his experience with the german national team will be of benefit and I'm pretty sure he's played right across their backline so versatility is a bonus.

So it's wait and see. I don't like our transfer policy but while Arsene's in charge let's be behind him, the team and hope by the end of the season he can give the metaphorical fingers to those that over spent on mediocrity.

Everyone of you gentlemen have hit the nail on the head in someway or another with recent posts.

You see the problem with our squad? We're strong where we are strong and weak where we are weak. You could ask a primary school aged Arsenal fan where we need enforcing and they'd be able to tell you.

I've really tried my best this summer to not get disheartened as in past seasons with the lack of activity, but as Liverpool looms closer, I'm starting to struggle.

Wengers right about the market. Its crazy now. When I read 30m Bollasie my jaw dropped. John Stones is good but 47m good? OMG.

It still isn't an excuse to not be involved. That's the game so roll with the punches. We need to be pushing forward simply just to keep up with those around us. We all know where we need reinforcements another ST and CB minimum. A ST would be nice yes but surely to God a CB is an absolute must and was so a month ago!

He'll dilly dally to the end of the window in the hope a rival either at home or in Europe will strengthen considerably and need to discard a fringe player to balance the books. We'll swoop and still probably pay a higher price than would be asked of anyone else because our cash reserves are common knowledge.

Maybe said player will improve us and Wenger will feel justified with his transfer policy. However this season in particular, it may already be too late as we've lost ground and paid the price for starting the season with a threadbare squad.

Good post.

We need a striker. We should sign Will Grigg

He's on fire. ;-)

Ulster Gunner

1.) 08 Aug 2016 21:20:38
Giggidy Giggidy :-)

2.) 08 Aug 2016 21:40:35

3.) 08 Aug 2016 22:16:11
your defence is terrified steve ;-)

4.) 08 Aug 2016 22:43:16
Lacazette was the one lads.
He was so perfect, that even being linked with Arsenal got him injured.

5.) 08 Aug 2016 23:12:47
Hahaha D that got me 😂👍🏻.

08 Aug 2016 20:22:02
Put yer hand bags away for a wee bit ladies.

Johnny Evans, why the f**k not?

Truthfully?

Ulster Gunner

1.) 08 Aug 2016 20:33:51
No thank you, thanks for asking.

{Ed001's Note - seems perfectly suited for Arsene. Injury prone, not very good at defending. Seems like exactly the kind of centre back he targets...}

2.) 08 Aug 2016 20:45:20
Ed01 I'm in a corner here on me own without you piling on! Right, bit of a prob with injurys but only because he's a selfless heroic paragon of what's needed in a defender.

Next point.

3.) 08 Aug 2016 20:55:01
What?

4.) 08 Aug 2016 21:18:44
Ed01 i'm pleased you said that.

5.) 08 Aug 2016 21:21:25
What you smoking in Ulster mate? :-)

6.) 08 Aug 2016 22:09:53
Boys boys boys. tsk. tsk. tsk

Not what I asked. Come on. geniuine question. Johnny Evans why not? lol.

7.) 08 Aug 2016 22:41:38
Thing is Ulster, he's just not very good.
I know I may be being a bit snobbish, but if he wasn't good enough for Utd, why should we take him on?
I know that's a questionable argument, but you get my drift.
If it was a loan deal, I might. might be ok with that.
But if we're paying £15m for a player, who's average, 29 and injury prone.
Which of the 4 Arsene Wenger boxes does he tick?

For an extra £10-15m (apparently, really, we no nothing of prices, I'm just talking from what I've read) which, to be honest is pennies for Arsenal, we could sign Mustafi, who's 23/ 4 (? ) , international experience, played over 100 games in his club career and speaks, basic English, which would hopefully give him a bit of a boost when it comes to settling.

For me, Evans would be the definition of a panic buy.
It would also take the last bit of Arsene's transfer credibility away, for me, because all this 'we won't buy just to buy' is rubbish if we're going after Jonny Bloody Evans!

We could of used a CB before Per was injured.
We definitely needed one after and now Gab is out too (and I'm guessing it's going to be a 3+ month one unfortunately) we really, really need a CB!

It won't happen, but if Arsene really believes in that '4 boxes' rubbish, then throw money at John Stones.
Hoffenheim's Nicholas Sule would be a good call too I think.

It could all be moot, Chambers and Holding could have the games of the century against Liverpool and we'll all be eating humble pie.

But if we get battered on opening day, then the morale of those young lads will be crushed and that can only hamper them.

8.) 08 Aug 2016 22:44:36
ulster that's a horrible shout 😂

What about Shane long for a panic buy? Causes defences nightmares worldwide 👍🏻.

9.) 08 Aug 2016 23:09:35
D the ghost of sylvestre.

10.) 08 Aug 2016 23:25:03
D_

Your right. Its complete snobberish if utd don't want him why should we.

Is Mustafi better because he's german?

Would there be the same complaints if his name was john Jorge evaninho?

Nout concrete. Other than if utd don't want him we don't.

Watch somebody before you rate them.

11.) 09 Aug 2016 09:48:58
Je your shout is as terrible as Ulster mate lol :)

12.) 09 Aug 2016 12:11:34
Hahaha big moe I don't know what it is but I like him a lot.
Never stops chasing defenders, always chasing lost causes, makes intelligent runs and put the ball in the back of the net.

Not my first option but not a terrible last option lol.

Wow a genuine interesting rumour. I suppose it would explain the Campbell loan because that really frustrated and perplexes me. Wait and see I suppose.

Don't know an awful lot about the guy though. Looks like he has the physical prowess for league.

Transfer dealings aside, this is more evidence Wengers lost the plot!

He was super pre season and I'm unhappy at this decision.

It's looking like we can't attract superstars to Arsenal anymore and now what help is this going to be for the club trying for players in the south/ central American pool of talent.

Sign for us, jump through our hoops, go out on loan everywhere we want you to for a permit. Then when you do get your chance and take it. We'll ditch you anyway.
