Can some one please explain why the fa cup is our best chance of honours this season, because I'm missing something!

We are 2nd in the PL and one point behind with 36 pts to play for, we have come through a bad patch that others may yet experience, in fact at least two and maybe all 4 of our nearest rivals will have a bad run of results between now and mid May.

We are in the last 16 of the fa cup and face Liverpool next then even if we beat them ( maybe/maybe not) Chelski or city will be in the last 8:as will another 6 teams who want to emulate Wigan in a 90 min cup competition that's built on giant killing upsets.

What is it I'm missing about us and the fa cup this season more than any other season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The optimist will read your post and think we've got just as much chance winning the other cups.

The pessimist will think we ain't winning anything then.

Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we have more reason to believe than for a long long time Flybo, we are contenders again and it was said a few weeks ago who ever finishes above city will be champion's.
I think we will finish above city this season

G62, we are in the dreaded month of February when things have tended, bar last season, to go array, we drop points, fall out of cup competitions and the league becomes a forlorn hope.

We have injuries we could do without, we took a striker in the summer for free who we're still waiting to see play his 2nd game, we didn't buy Bender, we didn't buy Draxler but end up with a guy on loan who can't play until god knows when. We have taken a beating by Liverpool resulting in a failure to beat the cr4p that masquerades as Manchester United.

There is money in the kitty which makes it incomprehensible that we don't have Bender and Draxler making a squad fit for purpose.

Our £42 million dollar man is struggling to impose himself on games and a striker we love is driving us to despair with miss after miss.

We are willing this team to win something, the sense is palpable but 8 years and all of the above make it impossible for some to dare to believe we can over come all that and lift a trophy of any sort this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Based on similar reasons Jenny has stated. To win the FA cup will take 4 wins. 1 off games possibly against teams in lower leagues. To win the league would require consistency and a deep squad. 2 things we are currently lacking.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenny's post says it all.

We all want to win something this season, this is the most optimistic we have been for years and we are in our best position for years but our squad is down to the bare bones, our 2 best attacking players are injured and we have a congested fixture list that has "armageddon" written all over it.

And we have that inane ability to self-destruct.

The other day I posted, on the back of a disappointing result against Man Utd, about Mesut Ozil, which got a mixed reaction from a few people who replied.

Now the dust has settled, let me explain.

I love him to bits, he is a great assist-maker and a terrific player. He makes very intelligent runs off the ball and pulls the opponents players around the pitch, thus creating space for his team-mates to exploit.

My biggest problem is, and I know the majority of you will disagree, but I do not, AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, think he is world class.

For me, world class are players like Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez and Aguero, to quote players who are in Prem League.

Ozil has always had class in front of him, Benzema, Ronaldo and Higuain to name but a few. They are class, which in turn makes him class because he supplies them, he makes them class with his assist's.

Unfortunately, he has Giroud in front of him, whom I love to bits, but he is not Aguero or Suarez, therefore Ozil suffers as a result of this.

Am I blaming Ozil for this? Of course not, its not his fault we do not have the same level of striker upfront that he is accustomed to.

Here is my problem with Ozil.
World class players win you matches. Countless times I have seen Real Madrid or Portugal playing poorly, but Ronaldo grabs the game by the scruff of the neck and scores one, two, sometimes three goals and they win the game.

The same applies to Messi. Barcelona play bad, admittedly not often, he goes looking for the ball and does something with it, IE, normally scores and win's the game.

Aguero the same. Suarez the game. Cruyff use to do it, Maradona use to do it, Pele did it with inhuman regularity.

My point? For an outlay of £42m I expect Ozil to do it more regularly. For me, if you are a class player and your front man is playing pants, than you get the ball, beat 2 or 3 players and you put the ball in the back of the net and you win the game. You change your game plan, you adapt and you do something about the result.

Im a Driving Instructor. Do I consider myself any good? do other people think I am any good?
Yes, I am very good because if my pupil is struggling to drive or do a manoeuvre or read the road, I don't just sit back and relax. I change things, I make that person aware of the situation, I take him/her back to their comfort zone, I explain what went wrong, how to deal with the situation better in the future, I do my best to make them understand the dangers of what they did and how to improve.

In other words I adapt my game to suit my pupil and my pupils ability.

If I was to classify myself, I would call myself a world class Driving Instructor because of my ability to adapt.

MR.Ozil, please do the same.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - this was by dagenham gunner. That ok for you mate?}

Dennis Bergkamp world class?
His first season in Arsenal shirt?
Mesut Ozil Germany 2010 in a young heavily inexperienced side?
For every negative there is a positive and the more class the player the easier its to find them.
Bergkamp class on grass, Ozil see Bergkamp.
The similarity's are chillingly exciting.
Lucky lucky us

G62,

I personally think Bergkamp's first season at Arsenal was more successful than Ozil's, thus far.

He scored 11 goals in 33 games and had 14 assist's in first season.

Like I said, I'm not slating Ozil and I love that he's a Gooner but in certain games, I repeat, in certain games, I expect more.

Got you there DG, beckenham born an d bred, still here too. just lent into a few pre-concieved ideologies (is that a word? ) aided with a lucid imagination I tried to tap into a scenario or two which may have crossed your mind on a few occasions over the years whilst teaching as I know from a couple of friends how frustrating driving instruction can be with certain persons. you need duel control, self control but you should be allowed a level of totally out of control just to spice the day up a tad!
been a supporter of liverpool since aged 7 the year that bra wearing hippie legend of yours smashed 1 past clemence in extra time at wembley 1971. good luck on sunday mate, I can't see a clean sheet for either side. plenty of attacking stylish va va voom football by both teams with goals galore is what's best served on a sunday.

Mourinho is a highly successful manager, but has not had continuity at any club and has not been a club builder. Whilst Wenger has won trophies at Arsenal, has built awesome training facillities and a magnificent stadium at Arsenal.
At the end if their time at the respective cubs, Wenger will be mentioned in the same breath as the great Herbert Chapman, whilst Mourinho will be one a number of managers that has won trophies at clubs that spend fortunes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed! I love Jose for what he brings to the game but sometimes u just have to say not every comment is an argument! the leauge is Chelsea's to lose as mathematically if they win all there games they win that's a fact! when he said arsne was great at failure he really went down in my estimation!

The so-called special one said people will say i'm using mind games, but i'm not. Really?

Everytime he says something its for affect and not about football

As a 52 year old and followed Liverpool for 47 of them years, I can remember the great Sir Bob Paisley

saying he used to butter up a player in a team we were going to play, and the player would believe it and

play rubbish against us mind games have always been there, you just have to good at it and the so-called

Is it just me or is there all of a sudden an abundance of Liverpool fans coming here in peace. Some would say its not sincere but a bit of gloating over last weekend.

I think they have a nice team but I hope we get stuck in and beat them on the scoreboard and physically - so they know what we are about.

Looking for my man Flamini to do what he does! See if they all come visiting then.

Peace

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Red
They are coming on here out of respect not gloating and I think should we beat them you will see probably even more posts from Liverpool fans.
We are two clubs who are reemerging from out side looking in and most of us share a mutual respect that I hope lasts forever.
Any one remember Michael Thomas and us snatching the tittle at Anfield? Do you also remember the reception the Liverpool fans gave us and respect they showed by staying on to watch us crowned!
What other fans in there own ground would be that honorable after such disappointment.
I have a great respect for Liverpool football Club

Believe me when I say we enjoy the banter and all of it is sincere.
I have said it before and will say it again, if we cannot win the EPL I hope to god you guys do. I would prefer that to the chav's or city anyday.
Looking forward to Sunday. May the best team on the day win, but please not a draw. Would not be good for either team.

Liverpool Fan in peace, Just wondering before the big clash on Sunday how important is the FA cup to you guys? Is it a distraction from the main goal of the title or something you're serious going after?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Le senile one will see it as a distraction. Those in the real world see it as our most realistic chance of silverware

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi mate I think were being forced into going for it, 3rd round Spurs we had to play a full team against them more than any one. 2nd round Coventry we gave players a run out and rotated. 4th round and yourself? If it wasn't for last weeks horror show I think we would have gone 50/50 but we can't risk another pasting so will go fairly strong at the very least.
You may beat us any way but our hands are forced into this one

Hi mate,

I think we should put this quite high on our list of priorities.

If we beat you boys we are close to a cup final and vice versa of course.

Hiya guys lfc fan here how strong a side do you guys think you will field with your upcoming cl games and league run in ill be honest I aren't too fussed if we get a win or not wouls be nice but league has to be priority for us and got to say I always love the fact wenger gives moaninho and tells it straight the english press lick jose's nether regions because he's a walking cliche machine lol but wenger tells it like it is I wish brendan would but I think he's thankful for the chance he gave him and he loans us hus rubbish

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Gibs,

I think wenger will rest a few players with Champs league game in mind.

I think he will play Carl Jenkinson, Monreal, Flamini, plus Sanogo and Bendtner might get a run out.

Hi dags hope your well I watch jenkinson sometimes he looks like he's going to be great others he looks dodgy I te

Agree0 Disagree0

Gibs, hope you are good too mate.

Valentines Day. Violets are blue, North London is Red, Let's hope this weekend we leave Loserpool for dead, Szczesny to save what our back four don't catch, Flamini to mark Suarez out of the match, Santi to dribble, to swerve and cajole, Podolski to pop up and score the first goal, Wilshere to run rings around Gerrard's ass, Özil to put through the decisive pass, Rosicky for two nil as he huffed and he puffed, Scousers all crying they know they are stuffed, yes Sunday's the day we're standing back up, pissing on haters when we win the cup, b******* to 5-1 by Skrtel and crew, It's great to be Gooners like me and you.

way to unite all arsenal fans mourinho.

branding arsene a specialist in failure, when no one (and I mean NO ONE!) has done what arsene has done in his career.

talk about how we haven't won a title in almost a decade. fine. but to directly insult wenger?. tad unclassy isn't it?

Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Why waste time with him? Let's just get about our business.

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as I hate Jose he has only stated the truth unfortunately, Wenger has failed to bring us any sort of trophy for to long now. I do believe this should be Wengers last season we need a change a freshen up of how we play . Sitting there watching us on wed just knocking the ball around in triangles was killing me I'd rather have little Of the ball and hit 15-20 shots rather than keep the ball in midfield and have 2-3 shots we have no plan B, C or anything else . I'm not being doom and gloom I will support us till the end but unfortunately we have seen this before no killer instinct and sometimes no desire to win games! I hope the next two games convince me we can really make a challenge but if honest we all know we're still a few players short and who's fault is that?
Two windows Wenger has failed to buy where we really needed it and if we don't win a trophy this year he has to be held accountable its simply not good enough. Lots of people saying we are 2nd still in both cups cheer up if you pay £1200 a year to watch them you would expect a little more just like I do!
Really hope we get some revenge on sat and save our season from slipping away!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ill disregard all posts by you on potential players, our squad and such ey flybo?

:P

hows about the IDEA that mourinho hasn't a clue?

Agree0 Disagree0

GoonerInk.
You misunderstand my point. The point of that saying is Mourinho attacks people and gets personal. Where as Wenger never gets personal and talks about ideals and the bigger picture. The saying attacks those that get in to petty name calling, and general crudeness.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh yeah, sorry mate I thought you were directing it at me haha!

i have no doubt that wenger knew what he was doing when he said 'chelsea are top, its theirs to lose'

he knew it would make mourinho want to rebuke, but that's not the same as a) directly calling him out and b) insulting the modern game by saying the man who is probably guilty of taking football away from its working class roots and raising it to a whole new level, if you include things not scrutinized by the media, such as training regimes, media profiling, and maintaining a successful club without debt.

Van persie rumours getting stronger. For me he will leave at the end of the season anyway. Question us would you have him back? I can't stand what he's done. He's everything u hate about a footballer. But u can't deny his talent, he would be the missing link. Tough one. Do we bite the bullet for success? I think wenger would.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No way.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sure Wenger would and is brave enough too but the horrible dutch bloke? I doubt his bottle on this one dispute how much I think he would like to.
I think Rooney is a much more likely arrival, he ain't got the years or the Patience for a utd rebuild and Wenger would love the revenge for them taking them horrible one from us

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll go against the grain and say on the right money, if he's fit, he's a good player and if he's willing to rotate in like Rosicky does. I doubt the squad would feel the way the fans do about having him back.

Nasri and Ade, no, but RVP, yes. Not that my opinion will decide it -:).

Ok this may sound weird but I would like us to lose on Sunday, and to lose to Bayern in hope of our team waking up. Just like last year. We had series of terrible results and then we had a year long run of brilliance. If we repeat the same thing we could win the league!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mate, I totally agree although would still like to beat Liverpool because we are a few games away from reaching the final.

Agree0 Disagree0

BgdG,
I fail to see the logic of that tbh. It's been a while since you guys even conceded a goal at home never mind a defeat. So now you are hoping that your next 2 home games end in defeat to give you a spur on. Surely it would have the complete opposite effect considering it's been a hard place for anyone else to get a result. With confidence a little lower at the moment surely any further dent would only go to make matters worse not better. Well that's my take on it bud.

Agree0 Disagree0

If the team can't motivate itself against the crappest Manchester United team of my life time after getting humiliated against Liverpool then I doubt any run of poor results will have a long term effect.

Same old story, collapse in February, I find it pathetic and quite frankly Wenger should be sacked at the end of the season for gross incompetence. I don't know how some fans still harbour this belief that he's a top manager. What mourinho said is absolutely bang on the money

Agree0 Disagree0

I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I am sorry, if you are hoping for us to lose, whatever the reason, I fail to see how you can call yourself an Arsenal fan.
And for another so called fan to agree with you is astounding, I hear grumblings from fans week in week out at Emirates and think its digusting. Get behind your team, we are second and still in the FA cup and CL. Support your team!

I will be so glad to see flamini back in as holding midfield - I love what arteta has done for Arsenal, but against big teams we need steel, and I feel liverpool away highlighted that.

With Flamini in place protecting the back for Jack and the other mids can push on without the nerves.

We need one more DM in the summer.

Also, if podoski doesn't play 70 mins at the weekend, there is something odd going on.

We missed a chance Wednesday.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm afraid that Arteta's best years have passed. He is now too slow, either gives the ball away or passes backwards or sideways. Flamini a better option but real class in that position is needed.

Gundogan would be nice. Unlikely, but nice. 5 years younger than our current holding mids, so perfect for transition.

Banter Please;
Liverpool fan - I come in peace.
Just like Dagenham Gunner did on our page, I'm going to ask the same question.

With the current fluctuating form of your team; realistically what position do you think you would finish? I need realistic answers from honest hearts who feel for the team and can analyze based on current forms.

As for our next match, may the best team win again! Although this time I feel Arsenal will give us a very torrid time on the pitch.

I await your response, Arsenal faithfuls. Have fun.

O'seunfunmi

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I reckon we'll finish in 3rd - 1 point above Liverpool and about 5 off Chelsea and City, who will be very close to each other.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im going to listen to my heart and my head a little bit. We have had 2 previous 'poor' results this season, and both times we have bounced back to go on a winning run of form. Just like the drubbing from City, our next game played a bore 0-0 with Chelsea. The drubbing from Liverpool then gave us a bore 0-0 with United, same patterns emerging. Therefore I feel we will go on another run of form, and if this form does appear in the next few games we will hopefully be beating our challengers! For this reason, i'm still going to say we can win it!
Seriously though, I really hope Liverpool finish top 4 because I honestly think they deserve it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see us fighting 3rd/4th with Liverpool
