This about sums it up, and why Alexis will be on his way as well. Because he desperately wants to win trophies.

Say what you like about RVP the truth hurts!

"This was a meeting about the club's future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.

"I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days.

"Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don't want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.

We couldn't hang on to our best players of the last decade because we didn't match thier on the field ambition and we can't hang onto our current best players for the same reason, so what player with good options would join us this summer?
Who is going to think they can achieve with Arsenal what so many good players have tried and failed to do?
Plenty of names will be thrown about who might be a good replacement for Sanchez but realistically who could we attract?

I know a lot will disagree but I always felt RVP was unfairly treated by Arsenal fans after he left.
Also he was a player of character who did not go missing in big games and often could change the momentum of a game with individual brilliance.
He single handedly got us to 3rd position in his last year.
If he had had a better fitness record in his earlier years I thibk we would have won the title 1 or 2 times more than we did.

I agree totally Stephen I was one of those people who felt that way at the time and for a while afterwards too but I've changed my mind since.
RVP was what 29 at the time? Utd and Fergie could offer him something Arsenal couldn't the chance to compete for the games top prizes.
Looking back it's impossible to argue the decision he made wasn't the right one as he won a premier league in his first season after leaving us while we are as far away from doing that now as we were but back them.
Why should players like RVP Sanchez Ozil stick with a club that sees 4th place as a trophy and success when clubs who consider coming second as failure want them ?
The very best players at clubs like Southampton Stoke and Sunderland leave to join clubs like Arsenal because they want the chance to play in the champions league while the very players at Arsenal leave to join Chelsea City Utd because they want to compete in the premier league and champions league.
Until we accept that fact and set about changing it we will be stuck in our groundhog ways.

There is nothing spectacular about you asa coach (of a big club especially) if you have not won the league in 13 seasons and made it to the UCL just once after having being in charge for 21 seasons. That rexcord does not speak of quality. For a small club, it is very good. For a mid table club, it is good. For a supposedly top club, that is not phenomenal at all. I don't think we have a poor crop of players, true, some of them might be shipped off under a new manager. But with the core we have, we can and should do better. Sanchez, Cech and Ozil (these are very good players, surely they can't have become crap soon after joining us) , Ox, Coq, Ramsey. these are players who had a lot of promise at some stage but seem to be suffering from a lack of confidence. How can they have become bad just like that?

Our coaching team suck me thinks. Even with same board, same players and better management, am sure we would have competed much better in last three seasons. Maybe not won anything, but definitely have put up good fights that would have made the fans happier.

I do often wonder why so many promising players seek to just get to a certain level and stop progressing. Such as coq, Gibbs, Ramsey, Theo, ox, iwobi, wilshere on the top of my head. Sometimes the show signs of what they could be. But it never stays.

I have been trying to think about the current situation at Arsenal and what is best for the club. I had a discussion with a work colleague yesterday (who is also an Arsenal fan) , who stated 'shouldn't we also think about what is best for Arsene?'He stated that he was being treated poorly by us and deserves another crack of the whip with another club. Whether he is right or wrong, maybe there is an element of sense in his statement.

Overall the 10-2 against Bayern isn't acceptable and any other manager would have been given marching orders after that, including the performance in the league. Maybe the board are aware of the current squad limitations and are worried that any other manager would finish in the bottom half of the league. The squad issues are Arsene's and we have been set up to fail for a long time, but for some reason he can get poor players to finish in the top 4. This has made him difficult to replace, we couldn't do a Chelsea style squad overhaul, due to funds, so it would take years for any other manager to get us to compete.

I'm not going to go in to the whole this player was available for the same or less money thing as it's getting old, but ultimately if we're to believe what Wenger has alluded to a few times he is and has been in charge of recruiting players and to a certain extent the amount we pay for them, so I'm afraid the frankly poor squad limitations falls directly on him.

Xhaka - £34m v Kante - £30m
Mustafi - £35m v Davie Luiz - £30m
Ozil - £42m v Hazard - £32m

We clearly do have the finances to match Chelsea. We've been spending more money on players not as good wuality as Chelsea signings. Don't we also have a higher wage bill too?

Think its clear we can compete with the big boys, its just the manager and his transfer policy isn't working.

I no longer think it's down to the players we buy or don't buy as i once did.
Cech Mustafi Ozil Sanchez should have made a difference but they haven't made any at all
I'm now convinced that if we'd signed Kante instead of Xhaka nothing would be any different despite Kante being so obviously a much better player, the mentality at the club is far bigger than any players we could bring in.
If Chelsea and Arsenal swapped entire squads this summer we still wouldn't compete because we as a club wouldn't get the best out of them, a very large part of that has to be down to Arsene Wenger maybe not 100% but he's certainly the lion's share of the reason.

Ed, 'IF' Allergi does become Arsenals manager this summer, would it have an impact on what Sanchez does? Surely if Wenger does decide to move on, the board would let the next manager decide the fate of our big stars. I would assume Allergi is a fan of Sanchez being he's been link with Juventus for quite some time even if the Juva board have the say of who comes and goes, surely the manager has some input.

{Ed002's Note - I think because the fans have turned the players will have priorities which include the options available.}
