Still reading we are still in for nzonzi, hope it is right and not recalculated old news.

Ha ha recirculated.

Nzonzi is just the type of DM we need, but I have a feeling that this is simply a rehash of the same old story. It very much depends on the formation Emery uses. He mentioned a 4-1-4-1 formation which could possibly mean signing Torreira as the sole DM and possibly using Maitland-Niles as another option. However, if Emery plays his more usual 4-2-3-1, then we would need at least 2 new DM's, say Torreira and Nzonzi and 2 as cover, Maitland-Niles and possibly use Xhaka in this position.

I loved the look of behrami last night. Neymar in his pocket all game! Combative and passion maybe worth looking at. Him or Nzonzi?

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2018 14:01:31
Have been a big fan of N'Zonzi for the last few seasons as he has been superb for Seville. He also seems the sort of player that would easilly slip into a back 3 if needed, which he virtually does as the DM for Seville anyway. However, despite that, I can't help but worry that it is now 1 or 2 seasons too late, as perhaps the best has been and gone and he now is looking a bit long in the tooth? IMO the new "N'Zonzi" of Spanish football is Kongogbia, but sadly he is on his way (permanently) to Valencia after being on loan last season. Still, they get to sign him at a pre agreed fee, so perhaps they could be persuaded to sell him straight on for a profit if a decent offer came in?

Didnt watch it, how did xhaka and litchensteiner get on tonight? I did read wenger slagging them off on tv. He said litchensteiner was too slow and xhakas positonal sense was poor. Really arsene!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Jun 2018 03:04:04
Was he actually? 😂 Seems bizarre after sticking with xhaka so long you would think he would be keen to praise him. I was watching it on a grainy screen with Thai commentary, I haven't a clue what was going on! 😂.

From what I see both done OK mate xhaka passing was good and he stayed disaplined after his yellow.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2018 08:23:31
Lichtsteiner struggled in the first half and it was a horror story in all honesty however, what do you expect when you have Neymar and Marcelo running at you with no cover from Shaqiri. He's lazy and didn't help him whatsoever! Second half was a lot better. Xhaka did what he had to do and considering Brazil were mounting on the pressure, he kept composed.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2018 08:33:32
In a fans poll Liechtensteiner was voted 5th best Switzerland player of the starting 11 and Xhaka 9th.
I watched Xhaka closely looking to see what I've missed about him others see, he hit a few decent long balls a couple came off and a couple were unlucky not to come off
His short passing was pretty tidy but he also gave the ball away very cheaply and unnecessarily at times too.
His tackling? To me it's a case of a free kick or non existent as tackling cleanly doesn't seem to be within his game.
I saw nothing last night to suggest he could player in a more attacking position but that maybe because of the role his manager asked him to play, he reminded me of Jack in his season at Bournemouth where he never really went to far forward or to far back he seemed to spend 75% of his time 30 yards either side of the half way line obviously this was under his managers instructions.
Last night wasn't the easiest of matches and it's unfair to judge anyone on one game alone but I doubt very much that if he wasn't already an Arsenal player that anyone would be calling for us to sign him on the strength of last night's performance.
1 down at least 2 more world cup games for Xhaka to change people's views and get the majority to change thier opinion of him.

18 Jun 2018 10:27:00
To be honest gunner, whoever doesn’t like xhaka will never change there mind about him, they won’t give him another chance to win them over, I’ve seen people slay xhaka and praise Iwobi shocking lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2018 11:33:20
Fair comment Crybaby mate but I am trying to be as objective and fair as I can towards Xhaka hoping to see something I haven't seen before.
His marks are low in the papers and in the fan poll I've read for last night all putting him in the bottom 3 Swiss players last night.
Although the pain in the Arsenal site claim he wasn't brilliant but he was good last night despite admitting he isn't very mobile and can't tackle they claim that Switzerland accommodated his weaknesses well by putting peple around him to do the running and tackling for him and Emery should learn from that to get the best out of Xhaka, really! Why ? What is that he has to offer that we should get other players to do for him he can't do himself?
Personally I just can't see the pay off apart from the odd long pass and long shot, but I'm trying to see more from him in a Switzerland shirt than I have been able to in an Arsenal shirt to understand other Arsenal fans view of him, I must admit I saw nothing last night to make me think he's worth others having to do more to make up for his weaknesses but that's only 1 of 3 games so maybe I will see more in the next 2 matches from him.

Add Mexico to the list of teams I've enjoyed watching so far, I'm definitely getting into this world cup now :-)

Hirving lozano is welcome at the emirates any time, what a first half. Secondly if our midfield played like Herrera and Guardado every week I’d be a very happy man; so much intensity.

Mexico displated their great Peruvian football skills and attacking flair. Football with no fear - great to watch.

That would be a great Last signing for the starting 11 - then the squad improvements begin.

What’s the news on Martial? I think he’s a top player who would excel in a more attacking team!

Ed,
What's your opinion of Leno as a keeper?
Are we interested in Schmeichel and would that make more sense for us?
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Leno is a decent keeper. Schmeichel? Has he had a decent game perhaps?}

17 Jun 2018 11:58:50
Thanks Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 17:12:29
Personally I think Schmeichel is a mid table Keeper who like many Leicester players had one amazing season, the better your keeper the better your chances. Imagine if United and Liverpool had swapped keepers last August?
It's not difficult to imagine Liverpool finishing runners up with De Gear and United finishing 4th without him.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 20:01:21
Agreed - he has EPL experience and looked good in that game plus when seen him play. A 22 year old ( Leno ) brings risk plus means we may loose our good young keepers. Interested in other opinions.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 20:09:49
26 year old - my bad and feel better now as 22 was young for a top flight keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 20:59:19
He's highly rated SY mate and we need a keeper so my opinion is we have to get him if we can.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 22:16:03
He was supposed to be the next best thing a few years ago but it hasn't quite worked out like that for him. Still young for a keeper. Is he better than say Butland? Who knows.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 22:51:19
You talking about Leno, Steve? So a bit of a risk but a good keeper with years ahead of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 23:08:46
Yes Sy, Leno. Our german connection obviously thinks he is up to the job.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 23:27:57
Every signing is a risk it's just a case of calculated risk or long shot.
Ronaldo comes with 1% risk while most players are 50/ 50 if you suit them and vice versa.
Then there is the longs hots who pay off.
Get it right more often than not and your the best thing since sliced bread get it wrong your sacked sooner or later.

Who do we think will be on the way out?

Will it be whoever we get the money for or will we have a Black Friday sale to clear all the necessary players from the squad.

Interesting to see who leaves from defence - jenks, Ospina, Chambers, Mustafi

Midfield and attack - Campbell, Jack, Asano, Akpom, Lucas,

Retired - Santi & Per

Semi retired - Kos and Cech

We need to create space and capital for new players

I would like to keep Chambers and Holding - both go out on 6 month loan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

17 Jun 2018 13:54:54
Outs:

GK: Ospina
Def: Mertesacker (retired) , Chambers and Jenkinson - Koscielny (long term injury)
Mid: Cazorla (gone) , Wilshere (sounds as if he is going)
At: Campbell (gone) , Perez, Akpom and Asano (loan)

May go if contracts not extended: Ramsey and Welbeck.
Reports that Cech might go, if we sign Leno.
Reports that Mustafi might go of we sign a couple of CB's.

Ins:
Lichtsteiner
Probable ins:
Leno
Sokratis
Torreira

Assuming the 4 that are expected to sign, we will still need a couple more players.

Early days and cautious starts but I really enjoyed watching Spain Portugal and Peru so far, Spain play such brilliant football, Portugal have Ronaldo backed up by hard working team mates and Peru played Raw skilfull very entertaining football.
Didn't see the Russia game but it sounds like they played well too.
France look poor considering the talent they have available in my opinion.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

17 Jun 2018 11:16:19
Thought France sucked while really impressed with Peru .

Loved the way Peru worked as a team and the energy and speed they played with. Played with fantastic Mexican flair.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not Peruvian flair? Teofilo Cubillas was a wonderful player.}

17 Jun 2018 11:36:01
With so many countries seeming to play such a similar style now days it was really good to watch the Peruvians play a more fearless ambitious style of football.
A bit of a throw back to when the world cup was full of contrasting styles from all over the world.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is down to Ricardo Gareca.}

17 Jun 2018 12:00:59

It's generally hard to glean much from the first group matches, things starting heating up from the second round onwards. Best match to date Spain v Portugal and the best player, without doubt Ronaldo.

Assuming we complete the purchase of Leno, which keeper, Cech or Ospina would you retain as back up or would you let both depart and use Martinez and Macey as back up. Alternatively bring in a new number two?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

17 Jun 2018 07:53:35
Following on from my keeper post.
Martinez will be 26 in September and only played 3 times for Gatafe on loan last season. Surely it is time to make a decision on whether to retain him next season. Macey looks promising, he will be 24 also in September. I know keepers tend to mature slightly later than in most other positions, but both of these keep keepers need to play in order to further their careers.

Review Of The Day 17th June 2018

17 Jun 2018 07:13:16
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Review Of The Day 17th June 2018

Believable0 Unbelievable0

17 Jun 2018 07:30:28
Hey eds, none of my posts have been posted on the page so I have to ask this as a comment.
With USA-Canada-Mexico winning the rights to co-host the 2026 World Cup, do all of their countries get automatic qualification to that world cup? If they do, What will FIFA do to do so other deserving teams don't get their chance to play taken away so that the three co-hosts have their three teams qualify for being hosts?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it has not been decided.}

17 Jun 2018 08:25:21
It kind of has been decided in a way gunner because there are 48 teams in the 2026 World Cup rather then 3. So in a way regardless of them being given auto qualification, there will still be more teams able to qualify.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - possibly 48, that has not been agreed either.}

17 Jun 2018 09:04:36
45 qualifying spaces opposed to 31 Scotland must fancy their chances :-)
I thought the hosts were voted on by fifa member countries or has that been done away with now? Makes sense if it has.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - FIFA's Council vote on the location - and the council represents 36 FAs.}

17 Jun 2018 09:37:04
Oh ok, I just remember all the fuss last time when England bid, it was very high profile with Beckham prince William and all plus the big tv announcement where they award the 2018 and 2022 world cup hosts while this time I've not seen anything about it at all.
I thought maybe after all the trouble and accusations last time round they might have changed how they did things but obviously not if they still had a vote.
Thank you.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - England bid for this World Cup and were eliminated with practically no support in the first round of voting. Only two bids were entered for 2026 and the USA joint bid recieved 67% of the 200 votes - there is no issue about this at all.}

17 Jun 2018 10:16:14
No I don't think there was an issue or see for a minute why there would be one I was just a little surprised at the lack of media attention about it.
Today on this page is the first I've heard of it and fifa usually make a song and dance about such big announcements.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - FIFA did make a song and dance about it last week. The American President sent out a Tweet about it - I am surprised you missed that.}

17 Jun 2018 10:33:02
Yes i did miss that too as I don't use Twitter so wouldn't have caught up with Donald's latest comments :-)
Saw a few pictures of him on TV shows with him and the North Korean leader and another one with Angela Merkel leading what looked like an upset bunch of people bursting into his office as he sat at his desk :-)
Obviously I need to keep up more with the news and what's happening in the world.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You can call foul if the 2026 final is the USA vs North Korea.}

17 Jun 2018 10:57:28
That would be a final to watch :-) all eyes in Kim and Donald as they exchange insults on the big screen throughout the 90 minutes :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2018 14:06:45
How come we received no support? Genuinely interested, I don't think we deserve it above anyone else, but surely we have all the infrastructure and stadiums already in place with only a few upgrades needed to mean hosting the world cup should be comparatively easy compared to most countries?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It depends how good the bid was. One bid gets eliminated at each round of bidding until one bidder has a majority. There were bids for 2018 by Russia, a joint Netherlands/Belgium bid, a joint Spain/Portugal bid and a bid from England. England only got two votes out of 22 in the first round and then were eliminated. Russia got the majority required in the second vote.}

17 Jun 2018 16:14:02
Ahh thanks 😊.
