New poll suggestion eds, now with the return of vermalen and the rise of rambo, who should be the club captain? {Ed013's Note - On my "To Do List" mate}

Hey there Ed,
I read today that Alex Song is unhappy about playing time at Barcelona (what a surprise!) and will possibly look to move in January.
Do you think there is any chance in Wenger bringing him back? I seem to remember a rumour that he was traded because of attitude problems, so if this is true then I doubt it but I think he would obviously help out defensively as he can play CB as well.

Cheers,
Trinidad-Gooner {Ed013's Note - I doubt it mate, that ship has sailed}

Wenger is an person for even taking back Flamini, people who leave us for "greener pastures" but then find "the grass is not green on the other side" should not be taken back.

Bad for the morale. {Ed027's Note - so you wouldn't take Cesc back?, the man who forced through a move?

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry? Does he not count? Sol? I would love to see Cesc come home. People some times need a fresh challenge or to chase a dream and if they realise they made a mistake can come back more passionate about than ever

As much as I loved cesc, the manner and way he pushed through the transfer was not nice and we have ozil who is a better player now anyway so let him stay at barca.

Agree0 Disagree0

If players are good enough (which flamini is) and admit making a mistake in moving, and are free why not take them back?

In the case of Song though, he is not good enough and never was and won't be free, plus would expect stupid wages, so every reason not to have him back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil is great, but I wouldn't be so quick to say he is better than fabregas. Cesc is an assist machine, aswell as scoring a lot of goals - they are both great players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who can really blame Cesc for leaving? Who wouldn't want to go home and play for the best team in the world playing the best football.
Anyone who says they wouldn't do the same thing is a liar.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil is the signing of all signing for me but given the chance to have both Ozil and Fab? Who wouldn't want them both? I know our MF is excellent already but we it would have be the best of all time to turn our back on a FABOZIL pairings

Agree0 Disagree0

For me the 'Ozil is better than Fabregas' comments are very flippant, for a start they don't play in the same 'favoured' position. Still, both are great players and you've done very well to sign the freaky eyed one. Well played!

Good post.

But on a similar note, without trying to cause an argument and considering the unique lack of longevity in a football player's career - can you really blame RvP for leaving at his age to try and get a few trophies? He's turned 30 now and just won his 1st EPL. His last few years at Arsenal were littered with top players leaving and NO trophies. I understand your club supported him through injuries but then all clubs do that, just like you're doing right now with Diaby (who gets slated to high heavens by Gooners on here). Yes he forced his way out in the end but that's just modern football for you. Anyone who thinks their players 'love' their club are being naive IMO.

I can understand the frustration from Arsenal fans but surely if you look at it logically he made the right move, and if he'd have left it any later he would have been destined to struggle to win any major club trophy on a par with the EPL before retiring?

Agree0 Disagree0

Van love you he one your with is a very different case to Cesc their reasons and motives were a million miles apart. The Man city exiles all went for money no other reason and ya man wasn't to much different to them. All I would say is if loyalty is not your thing thing then there was little reason for him to stay. He had seen player after player sold and us winning anything looked light years away but turns out those days might be coming to an end:-)

Will be interesting to see Stoke play without a thug mentality under Hughes

Then again, they do field Adam and Shawcross, so we will see

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hughes teams are as bad

Agree0 Disagree0

Blackburn rovers where no different to stoke when hughes was there

Ok guys, basing on the 2nd half of last season, and the current form of the team, competition for places, who should be our substantive captain? I think Per should get the armband permanently

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with Per. Undroppable IMO and really organises things.

Out of left field I think Ramsey is an interesting shout. Personally I'd steer away from this because no need to heap pressure on him should just let him play. He does however really lead by example. Wenger (or whoever is manager in a few years) is going to have one hell of a decision to make between Wilshere and Ramsey as captain in the longer term.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say merts or flamini,

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a hard question right now, although the captains armband seems much less important than it has on the past as we have 4 or 5 natural leaders on the pitch.

My choice for the future is jack, although the pressure may affect his game at the moment, on current form I'd give it to Ramsey, kos would be a good shout too, although if arteta starts he'd be first choice that day.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have a lot of leaders in play just wish for someone to be more vocal on the pitch

They will slowly start trickeling in now, first Vermaelen and now Mikel Arteta.
Just thise two alone make such an ipmrovement regarding our options. Now we can afford to rotate our midfield a bit better and Vermaelen, Nacho and Jenkinson make our options off the bench look that more solid.

Now we need the Ox back as quickly as possible to add extra pace in the second half.
Podolski, Cazorla and Rosicky will continue where they left off.

This could be as competitive squad we have had for many moons, only now can he say we more or less have 2 players worth a place in the starting 11 in every position.

Does anyone know what the Citroen sponsorship deal gives us and when does it end. I heard Manutd are getting a ridicolous amount of money for their Chevrolet deal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm sure the guy that authorised the ridiculous mega deal was sacked soon after due to it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah he was sacked on the spot! That is not a deal to use as a reference for comparison at all, the guy at Chevy ballsed it up massively. No idea about the Citroen deal though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Read it's a renewal deal. Basically there using arsenals name to promote cars in china and other parts in Asia in return for them supplying us with a huge fleet of cars for use by arsenal employes on official business. Don't know if any money is involved as article never stated it. Hope that helps
