Judging by today's performance, we will win the league by at least 20 points.

Great performance, that is what happens when you play Ramsey and ozil in their best/favoured positions.

However the reason for my post is Jeff reine Adelaide he looks special, composed, big and strong, our future Viera I am sure, Wenger seems to think that will be his position...watch this space.....

I've seen his name mentioned here a bit recently, so here we go.

Is it just me who doesn't want Reus?

I know, it's crazy.

But the thing is, Reus is primarily a winger, which we have plenty of.
He can play striker, but again, we have 3 players who can play winger or striker.

But ahead of all of that, he's very injury prone lately.
He'd cost some pretty big money and it's no question he's a top talent, but I don't really want a player who's going to miss a lot of games.

Also, doesn't he play mainly left wing, where Alexis plays?
I don't know about you guys, but after his cracking season on the left, I'd rather not chop and change Alexis!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2015 19:30:37
1. Reus is amazing and if there's a chance for us to sign him then we would grab at it.

2. Yes he is a winger who plays on the left. Alexis used to play on the right . It doesn't matter with a modern day winger with bags of ability.

3. Injury prone? He suffered an injury from a horror tackle last year where the police even investigated the tackle. Dint that happen to Ramsey?

4. It's great also that our wingers can play upfront but that dosnt mean we couldn't get an additional striker.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Jul 2015 23:13:31
Not doubting Marco's quality here.

First off, I agree about the positional play, however, Reus has hardly played anywhere other than Left side and striker.
Alexis can pretty much play any of the front three (I assume he'd probably play anywhere if it mean he got to play football) my point was, he's been at his most effective for us, on the left.
Why rock the boat?

Secondly, Reus has occurred 25 inury's in the past 6 seasons, mostly muscle injuries, causing him to miss 42 games.
Basically a season
The injury last season was bad, but he also picks up a lot of niggles.

Finally, we have Walcott who's a winger, who wants to play upfront.
Welbeck who's used as a winger but is a forward.
Alexis who can play (as earlier mentioned) almost anywhere probably.
It's great to have versatility in a player, but eventually you get a jack of all trades situation.
The club would benefit from signing a striker, who's a striker and nothing else.
Messi, Neymar and Suarez aside, the top strikers are strikers, nothing else.
You won't see Ibrahimovic, Lewandowski, Aguero (although he probably could), Costa or Benzema, being shifted out wide regularly.
If you told Ibra to go out wide, he'd probably just go home to be fair.
These players, are purely strikers and that's what we need right now mate.

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Jul 2015 23:44:36
Problem with all out wingers is that they all want to play in the middle and not making them wingers

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 00:18:48
D the injury he got last year will account for at least half of them if not more (I'm not going to google it) so 20 games in the other 5 seasons isn't terrible. Reus can play on right and like most successful teams they change with each other every ten mins from side to side. I'm all for getting a striker as well but come on mate if we have the chance to get reus then it has to be done

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 00:23:05
Also the casing point of the barca 3. Messi and Suarez weren't strikers and it would be daft to put ibra and lewandowski on wing so? Maybe not fully got your drift there mate. Yes another CF please but yes x 1 million for reus

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 04:43:02
Getting Reus would make us not only true EPL contenders but, UCL contenders, in my opinion. A fluid front 3 of Sanchez/Theo/Reus with Ozil feeding, Ramsey all over the park and Le Coq impregnable can beat absolutely any team in the world. Sanchez/Theo/Reus would kill teams on the counter if they try to attack but Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey and Reus can unlock any defence that tries to park the bus, with precision strikes from distance and sublime short passes. I honestly believe a winger of Reus pedigree is a far more deadly option for us than any striker we've looked at. I also think Theo in a front 3 like that would get the absolute best out of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 17:14:25
4-0 half time, iwobi looks like he can make the step up, Ramsey and ozil are looking excellent again, hopefully both can carry on into the season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2015 18:07:03
Who is iwobi never heard of him before today

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 19:28:26
He's a winger, but can be played central, he's done well in the under 18s games I seen him in.
He's got bags of pace, and good ball control, if he can grow his confidence some more he should get a few games.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 19:39:27
I think he's made the step up. To pre season friendlies that is just like akpom did with his hat trick. The trick is now can they make the huge, massive step up to real football in the prem league. We will see.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 17:02:17
Don't know if anyone is watching the match but is Ozil is supposedly the pick of the bunch so far. Wonder how Lacazette is doing. I know pre season games aren't always the best games to go by when judging quality.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2015 17:13:29
The whole team looks hungry yorkshire. Yes it's a friendly but it's more competitive than most and we are pulling Lyon to bits. Lacazette will surely want a piece of this.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Jul 2015 17:37:21
I know pre-season isn't a true example of form/fitness.

By my days Özil has been sublime.
I know I may be slightly biased, as I do love Mesut, but he's just been cracking.
He's active, he's getting forward, looking strong and alert.
He's played some beautiful passes.

Ox has also been very good!
Unlucky to not have himself a brace.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 17:45:41
As I typed, Özil grabbed a great goal, well worked and a nice finish.

Give that man the Balon D'or now.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 18:21:34
Love Ozil - makes the team tick. Who wants him defending when he can pick out assists like the Rambo goal. What a pass. Goes to show what type of players Ozil needs around him. Henry, Wright would have scored even more with this guy assisting. We have to have players running into the box to utilise Ozil.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 19:31:49
Ozil had a hand in everything. World class

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 16:56:31
I feel from time to time that I'm the only one on Girouds side. I just feel that without his injury he could have gotten 20 goals last season and keeping in mind that he has improved every season he might if fit get 23 this season. Also sweet goals from him and the ox right now.
Maybe its good that I'm not our coach. Also agree that he needs a better challenge for the spot I just don't want him to be replaced just like that
Damn 3-0 now we are ripping them to peaces
özil looks a beast

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Jul 2015 17:22:48
No Viennese I rate giroud and he could get 20 a season. I just think at times we need someone quicker through the middle. Our style of play suits having a quick CF. I would be extremely happy if we got reus and then for a plan B to giroud you could play alexis, theo, welbeck or reus up front as we have an abundance of talent that can cover attacking midfield whilst they play CF.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 17:45:01
I know what you're saying, but he's just uninspiring.
I know I'll get a bit of stick for that, but the point is, a centre mid, or a centre back, a keeper or a fullback, these positions can all have players who are boring, but still great.

You don't want a CB who's flamboyant.
You want him to be strong, alert, clever.
If he's boring, but he's helping clean sheets, I'll take him.

Wingers, Striker and No.10's, need to have an Xfactor to play for a big club.

Özil has that.
Alexis has that.

Giroud doesn't.
He's not going to win a foot race.
He's good in the air, but so are most defenders.
He's strong, but so are most defenders.

If you can't find Giroud in space, or get a good ball to him in the air, he's isolated and lost.

Someone like the now inevitably linked Benzema, provides multiple options.
He's ok in the air, not great but ok.
He can hold up play quite well.
He's fast, so can get beyond the man.
He's fairly strong.
He also picks up a lot of assists.

Someone like him is a dream for Özil.
At the moment, if he's finding Giroud, it has to be in the air, or to feet.

But when he's finding Walcott/Welbeck/Alexis/Ox, he can ping a ball a bit further forward, he knows that he can put a little distance on the ball, and really test the defenders.

Giroud is by no means, a bad option.
He just shouldn't be our first option.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - im with you D..

25 Jul 2015 19:34:49
Is Benzema fast. It must be deceiving because he sure doesn't look like a speed demon to me

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 22:59:48
I suppose fast is subjective.
If you're comparing him to Walcott, Aubameyang, Aguero, then of course, he's not up there.

If you compare him to Giroud, Rooney, possibly even Diego Costa, then yeah, he's pretty quick.

But regardless, he possesses a turn of pace that Giroud doesn't.
Yes, we have a pacey striker in welbeck, but he's still not clinical enough.

Benzema possesses the necessary attributes to succeed in the premier league.
He'd suit our style of play to a tee as well.

It's all if bits and maybes, till (if) we sign a striker anyways.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 10:03:24
The best think about Benz is that he's played for a huge club and played the biggest games in big stadiums with plenty of pressure. That sort of experience is priceless

{Ed025's Note - hi malaga..benzema all the way for me mate..

25 Jul 2015 13:36:31
David James has dug out Cech a few times now! I'm not been funny but please mr James you were rubbish in net

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2015 14:10:32
Agreed James was useless

I do agree with him hear me out first.

From a financial perspective - Chelsea did pretty well. They got real strong money for an ageing keeper with close to his best years behind him while replacing him for less money with a younger yet very very good keeper.

From our perspective - we need a world class keeper who can impact the team this year and next. We have a good young keeper coming through. We need that Seaman-like keeper, even if just for the next two years due to age. A keeper used to EPL, winning trophies but also capable of doing nothing for 89 minutes then needed to be alert to save a game. Lower league keepers are always busy so easier to look good. We also needed experience between the sticks to calm us down and organise corners etc. Cech ticked every box and was worth paying for.

James is looking at it from a finance perspective - Cech is a great signing but it was a good bit of business for Chelsea

Agree0 Disagree3

25 Jul 2015 15:48:57
I agree with 80% of that Sy!

But was it really a good deal for Chelsea?
(I'm not calling you out here by the way, I just enjoy debating points with people, or, as the people in my life will tell you, I'm getting miserable before my time)

Yes, he's getting on, and if they'd got £11m for a 33 year old striker, winger or defender, I'd be agreeing with you there too, cracking deal.

Cech has 4 years or so where he can still be top class, minimum. (I know class is subjective)
Look at Buffon, 38 and still great, not his former glory, but he's still up there.
Of course, he could do a casillas and rapidly deteriorate with age (I think Iker had a confidence issue personally)

As you say, we've get a top class keeper, with experience and great qualities you want in a keeper.
Chelsea replaced him with a decent keeper, but nowhere near the quality of cech.
If Thibaut got injured, they'd be left worse off than last year.

If anything, they've potentially weakened their position!

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 16:29:29
Well I hope James is a better financial advisor than he was a keeper. The bit that got me was he said we would have been better off getting bergovic. Cech has a good five years look at van der Sar

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 12:14:44
Could this be our front line this season:

Sanchez, Ozil, Reus and Benzema

That would certainly be an interesting attacking option which every defence would struggle to contain

Happy if Isco could join and add something special to our attack also :)

Now I am getting a little carried away but 120m would transform our team - now I know how lucky City and. Chelsea have been for the last 8 years

Come on AW - let's spend big with money the CLUB generated and show our model works

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2015 12:46:40
If he spends big then all what he has done by trying to build a squad wouldn't work

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 13:38:22
We added Sanchez and Ozil - that worked

We promoted from within also - that worked

But the squad expects to win the league and that keeps the squad together

Wenger has always promoted from within and supplemented with improvements in the transfer window - I just want that same balanced approach but with two killer signings - Reus and Benzema or Isco and cavani or Aubameyang

We lost good player due to lack of trophies - two additions like that would help us win and keep our STAR players

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 14:09:34
If reus benzema and Isco wouldn't work Stephen then I don't know what would. Nice little dream sy4 it would do the trick

I feel this very strange with people on here, wenger gets asked simple questions and gives his honest opinion or opinion, and our own fans jump on him telling to mind his own business and stick to Arsenal, no wonder the club never prospers because of typical fans just like on here.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its all about opinions mystifier, this is a banter site and people have differing views on things mate, that does not make one wrong or right its just how people feel..

25 Jul 2015 10:58:27
Failing to establish this "link" between fans attitude and the teams success.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - me too rue..

25 Jul 2015 12:00:04
Like ed said mysifer it's a banter site and everyone has different opinions. But my opinion is people who bash wenger are ungrateful . He's never wrong and I'm unreservedly biased

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 12:29:08
Dont see link either, between the two. A lot of people me probably included call other managers for saying stuff about other teams ( our own ) that is in poor taste and we slag them off for doing so. Just because wenger is our manager, we then can't say, yes well said mate, when if it was van gaal saying it about us, we'd say mind your own business. As far as i'm concerned, if its not positive talk, then you leave yourself open to flak. i'm not saying he is wrong just ever so slightly hypocritical. Well very hypocritical.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 09:38:16
I've got a funny feeling we won't get a striker it's more than likely going to be a winger hopefully in the mould of Isco and wenger will play Walcott more as a striker and say it's like a new striker with akpom as a back up

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - if you are right 50gun, then i believe it could cost you the title mate..

25 Jul 2015 09:56:00
Unless the winger is marco reus ed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like reus brow, but for me wingers are far from the problem, its been speculated that arsene has £200m to spend, well throw £80m of that on benzema and the title is coming home for me mate..but maybe thats just me..

25 Jul 2015 10:49:43
For 80 million ed I would like to think we could buy Benzema and reus. 35 Benz 45 reus. Then let the party start. Regardless of what wenger or Harris says we have the money to do that and get pogba

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the money is there brow, its getting them to spend it thats the hard bit!..i think benzema will cost a lot more than £35m though mate..

25 Jul 2015 11:01:24
Totally agree ED025. The problem with the vehicle is the gearbox, so it is the gearbox that needs replacing, not the radiator lol

We can have wingers from planet Nibiru, but as long as we have mediocrity as our striker, we will always struggle

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats my bag as well rue mate..

25 Jul 2015 11:15:13
Well I hope wenger is going to Suprise us ed.

25 Jul 2015 15:38:36
Personally, Lewandowski would be my first choice were he to become available.I think Lewandowski would be a fantastic signing. Would love him in our team. I would be delighted with Benzema . Any of those two and I think we would have a fighting chance of the league this season .
