So I know Dragovic isn't of imminent interest but if he doesn't go to Manchester United could Arsenal make a move? Been to long since an Austrian has played for my beloved Gunners
Thanks Eds you are amazing

VienneseGooner

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest.}

Hey eds! Could you please answer the following question? Austrian website laola1 is reporting that there is a claus in Reus's contract which says that he can leave for 35million €( don't know how many pounds that would be). Is there any intrest in him, would be a great signing.

VienneseGooner

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal showed an interest in Marco Reus before his return to Dortmund last year. Recent tentative approaches made by Chelsea and Manchester City have resulted in a "not for sale" response regardless of their being a release clause in his contract. Manchester City are likely to push again as Dortmund are still looking to Dzeko as a possible replacement for Lewandowski and will look to ease a deal through by offering favourable terms on the transfer or a contribution to his salary, but Reus is keen to stay where he is for now.}

So my question is. How is it possible that in a market like the one football apperentely is in right now, where 18 year olds are supposed to go for around 100 mil if not more, we would allow a worldclass proven goalscorer in his prime leave for 50 mil? Age is a factor of course one could be great for years to come but the other has proven himself time and time again as well as having on of the best injurey records for somebody who plays at his level more or less every game. So if City want Sanchez so badly why don't we demand a higher fee or tell 'em to look elsewhere?

Sanchez has 12 months to run on his contract, in Jan he could agree a pre deal for free. the 18 year old you are talking about has a contract until 2020 I believe.

2.) 30 Jun 2017 12:57:21
Plus a don't think players under 25 can leave as a free agent for nothing even if thier contract is out.

Has been a long time since I last posted something here but yesterdays result has made me creep out of my shell. It was a great comeback, however, we should never have been in a situation like this. It somehow is both, two points dropped and one salvaged. I think this conundrum can be seen in our players attitude, while Alexis was furious at the final whistle as well as druing the game, giroud celebrated his equaliser in absolutely ridiculous fashion. Do that after you score that goal against Palace and it would still be cringeworthy but at least justified. Do that when you just equalised and there's still time to push for the winner and you're not only making a fool of yourself but also hurt your team. He's been our hero in the final weeks and I rate him but for me he resembles what we really are lacking to push for the title. A winners mentality. Sure it's gotten better and in the past we might have given up and concided more. Southampton last season comes to mind.
I would love for Wenger to stay but he has to change something in the dressingroom or somebody else will. Winners like Alexis won't stay with us if they don't feel everybody is fully commited since he can only do so much. Forget the money convince him on the pitch.

I was screaming! Put the ball on the centre spot! Added time had already been allowed and the celebration was over a minute long! Oh well it could have been a 3 -0 drubbing.

2.) 04 Jan 2017 17:50:00
Slb, Giroud fancies himself, did u see the celebration, trying to copy mikatyrans goal, he nearly fell over.

I feel that even if Wenger pulls off a incredibe signign like Messi or Ronaldo after the next defeat people will call for his head again.
I really don't want t have his job

VienneseGooner

1.) 29 Aug 2015 07:46:12
I think that's a bit over the top. All we are asking for is decent alternative's to Giroud & Coqulain.

2.) 29 Aug 2015 09:03:29
That right gooner. Most arsenal fans want strengthening in those areas it's not anti wenger its pro arsenal.

3.) 29 Aug 2015 09:05:46
VG very few really want Arsene out mate but an awful lot of people just want him to do what every other manager does and use whatever money they can get their hands on to make the team/squad the strongest it can possibily be in order to give their club the best possible chance of success.
I don't think its unreasonable for fans to expect the same from our manager.

I really get fed up from time to time with our supporters. How can it be that so many put their heads into their hands and give up on the evidence of three games? May I remind you that we have the same amount of points as Chelsea have! Some results go our way and we are in the top 4 next round.
We were poor against West Ham as well as Liverpool first half, and still are on par with Chelsea.
One might argue that they had better opponents but we can only play the teams infront of us.
Some of the critisism towards wenger is justified. Especially the playing players out of position. The not buying part is partially justified I think.
Many fear we will panic-buy and point to similar seasons. Yet many tend to overlook the fact that we bought good old Mesut on the deadline day!
Also pointing fingers at single players is a bit harsh. I was furious with Chambers and the crap he played but there is a reason he doesn't normally play. Not his fault he was thrown into cold water, probably getting the news just a few hours before the game.
Ever since özil came back from injury he looks like a beast and I don't get why he get's so much stick. He creates chance after chance after chance it really isn't his fault nobody puts them away. Of course he has a bad game here and ther but he's only human. Alexis didn't play particulary well the last couple of games and I can hear no shouts for him to be dropped.
How about we all start makeing up our own minds and not just repeating everything the pundits and so called experts say. If you come to the same conclusion as them fair enough but I feel many just say it because they read/heard it somewhere else.
I think round 10 is when we should make a first judgement about how our season is going

VienneseGooner

1.) 25 Aug 2015 17:09:53
Do you not think the same things are said each season tho?

2.) 25 Aug 2015 18:07:48
And Chelsea have a better team than us

3.) 25 Aug 2015 18:18:52
Yup - well said, too much negativity. Would like to have monitored the board the year of the invincables - probably didn't score enough or too many draws! Still would have been a Wenger out brigade ;-))

4.) 25 Aug 2015 18:19:55
Do you dispare VG but you understand why?

5.) 25 Aug 2015 18:23:03
That's a decent post VG, I didn't listen to pundits or fans who have said all summer Olly and Theo didn't have enough to lead us to a serious challenge I hoped/thought they could have enough between them, I was wrong.
Its difficult at the moment to see anyone other than Sanchez scoring the winning goal for us in a tightly fought 50/50 game of very few chances for either team, Ollys a brilliant worker but we need to try give somebody new a chance to be our main goal getter.

6.) 25 Aug 2015 18:32:15
What would you do at round 10 if we are twelve points behind?

7.) 25 Aug 2015 19:44:10
hard to say steve
Would be heartbreaking to see such a thing again
I am however very reluctant to call for Wenger to go since I don't want to have to suffer throw that hangover like United still is

8.) 25 Aug 2015 20:41:09
My point is you never wait, you act how you can when you can. You don't have to wait to see what's required.

9.) 25 Aug 2015 21:12:50
Fair post Vg.

Very good comment Steve..12 points behind just like last season, and look what happened.

I truelly believe that the list of positions we should strenghten, be it with calling up a youngster or buying someone, just to have some cover on the bench, is 1. Left Wing; 2. CDM; 3. Striker.
Hear me out before you all go mental.
Of course our main man Alexis is great and doesn't need replacement, but as we can witness whenever he isn't playing and the Boss opts for fitting the trio of, Santi, Özil and Rambo in our midfield we lack in width. We saw that with Giroud very often going down the left providing said width. If he is on the left though there's nobody in the middle to put those crosses away.
That's why I say get cover there. I personaly promote Iwobi since he deserves his chance after his pre-season performances. Hell let's start him against Palace!
CDM is obvious for everybody to see, but doesn't top my list since we got Arteta as cover which is better than having none (like Left Wing). A player onpar with Le Coq would be better I agree so they can push eachother to new levels, something that won't happen with Arteta as backup.
Third is the position upfront. I am one of these delusional Giroud-Fanboys and truelly believe that people are far to harsh with him. Especially given his stats. Keeping him on after he got knocked-out was an odd decision I agree. He also got backup though I don't think Theo can do the trick upfront but he is better cover than Arteta is.
Getting a "worldclass"forward would improve us a lot but since goals can come from everywhere with our team shouldn't be our top priority in my opinion.
I wouldn't reject either Lewa or Benz though (who I prefer in that order)

VienneseGooner

{Ed025's Note - dont forget a CB mate..

1.) 13 Aug 2015 14:50:55
I honestly believe that although there is room for improvement we don't necesarrily need to upgrade Ed that's why it didn't make my list
Do you agree with the list as it is though?

{Ed025's Note - swap a winger for a CH and yes..

2.) 13 Aug 2015 19:53:25
Ed, would this still be your opinion if Gabriel got more first team opportunities and shows he is a big talent? Remembering Wenger has confirmed that Chambers is being treated as a CB for the future and Mertesacker has a season or two left in him, I don't think it is a top priority right now personally.

I am now on the striker bandwagon as my loyalty to Giroud was really tested after seeing his finishing (lack of) against West Ham. I thought the end of last season was just a bad spell but it's gone on too long now and an inconsistent striker isn't ideal when aiming for the PL title.

{Ed025's Note - its hard to say about gabriel TPG as i have not seen a lot of him mate, for me per is an accident waiting to happen too slow and although a good stopper not enough quality mate..

3.) 13 Aug 2015 21:11:21
The thing about our CBs is that mert is ok, but only when he has kos to look after him. If mert gets injured, slide gabriel in next to kos and I think we'd be ok. But if kos gets injured like last season, then the thought of mert +gab/chambers/monreal is a terrifying prospect. Personally I'd like us to go for Stones (sorry ed025)

{Ed025's Note - if he was to go to anyone then i would love it to be arsenal lemon, he is a proper footballer and would flourish under wenger imo mate..

4.) 13 Aug 2015 21:11:33
Where are these chances that we were creating for Giroud on Sunday. Was I watching something different to everyone else? He stuck one over the bar near the end after a cross from ox, by which point the game was already over. I've already said it but I'm going to say it again. Put Benzema, or anyone else for that matter, in for Giroud and we still lose that game on Sunday. You cannot put in a performance like that and then blame the centre forward, it's naive to do so. We lost because we played badly, were not incisive, and were all over the place defensively. We did not lose because of poor finishing by any stretch of the imagination.

{Ed025's Note - you make a good point UG, but for me benzema gives you a different dynamic compared to giroud, at times olivier can be a bit static and hard to find, i believe karim gives the midfield more options but hey, that could just be me mate..

5.) 13 Aug 2015 21:48:58
No I agree with you on that one Ed. I do believe he would improve us. But pointing the finger at Giroud on Sunday after giving him that service really isn't fair.
I know what you mean about him being hard to find though. He is good in the air, but not stunning, and his lack of pace can make some good through balls look like bad ones.

6.) 14 Aug 2015 09:01:47
ubistonk if you look at the stats we actually had 20 shots in the game and only 4 on target, if you have a more clinical striker with better movement then 1 if not more of them chances go in and we go 1 -0 up the first place and its a different game, plus if the defences fear the striker then they can not relax, that in turn makes the midfielder cover more and express themselves less, so the who game can be different.
I am a big Giroud fan and want him at the club i think he has an awful lot to bring to the team, but striking fear in defences is not one of them and clinical he is not.

{Ed025's Note - i agree breal mate

Brow we can indeed in my opinion challenge for the league if and it's a big if everybody stays fit and Wenger can finally jump over his shadow and see that he has to play a winger on the right. Bad Luck for Rambo who I really rate quite highly but he has to make place for someone (the ox IMO)
City is still a wildcard for me. Yes they hit the ground running and were very impressive against a poor Chelsea side but it is down to both, toure and Kompany finding their form again and not down to Sterling. We are two games in three points behind City and two ahead of Chelsea (the two clubs to beat) doesn't look too bad. However if City keeps on playing like that, then they are the team to beat. At this stage it is too early to tell and I'll stick with my old top 4 in which we or chelsea win and city or united finish either 3rd or fourth. If we start judging now then Leicester would be a serious titlecontender and we all know that's not the case

Coquelin was on when we conceded the second one
His awkward sliding tackle was one of the reasons Zarate ended up having the ball
