Santi for me.why?

He will always spend less time on the treatment table, simple as

Agree Bambam

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i have to disagree guys, the one thing about jack is that when he is on the pitch he makes a difference, santi after a quality start to his arsenal career has become mr anonymous to me fellas, seems to have lost his vim and i will be very surprised if he is at the club next season..but thats just my opinion..

I totally agree Ed025, Santi ain't and too often shows he's not committed, to the cause.
A team of Jacks may finish 7th but a team of Carzola's relegated by Easter for my money

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its a shame G62, the guy has talent, but alas like the tin man in the wizard of oz he lacks heart..

Football history is full of players like Caz who walk away from the game empty handed while the Michael Carrick's of this world deservedly need a wheel barrow to carry all their medals in.
Now get someone with great heart effort commitment and ability to match you have Ranaldo and Messi or at least Iniesta or Xavi, with more effort Santi could be closer to those winners

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 22:27:12
Banbury, I love reading your posts, while not one can disagree his injury past isn't great, but the same can be said when santi goes missing in games, every player is different, and there's not much that separates it, but it's still jack for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

G62

You miss the point mate, a team of Jacks wouldn't be able to fill all their fixtures due to the fact they would all be injured .

It is about the player as they are, not if they were always 100% fit each week.

Hence why I would take Santi he is more than likely to be there for selection

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 22:29:04
Thing is Ed, Santi's best position is in centre mid and as you said he was great in first sesson., scoring 14 and assisting as many.

But 2 in 1 don't go. Both Jack and Santi are at their best in the centre mid role.
Nice dilemma to have I guess mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair comment Banbury, its true Caz and Poldolski are never going to pull a hamstring that's for sure :-).
But I do take your point mate, sad but true Jack's never going to do 30 plus games a season

Agree0 Disagree0

For me when he is fit Jack is a better player than Santi in my opinion. But I must repeat IF FIT!

Agree0 Disagree0

Has everyone forgotten that santi cazorla hauled us out of the grim depths in the FA cup final with a superb peice of individual brilliance. Scoring in the absolute crunch time is good enough for me!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - one swallow doth not a summer make..

On swallow doth make an fa cup though

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fair point saint..

I think Santi is also facing the wrong side of the 20's, or may already be 30?? Personally I would try and cash in sooner rather than later. However I accept that like Ozil he again is being spoiled by Wenger playing him as a left winger. Looks much better in the middle. Personally I think Khedirha could have replaced Caz, Rosicky and Atreta's roles in the squad, but that's just a dream as he is looking like a Munich bound player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he is 29 EG..

29 Nov 2014 21:21:33
Just watched the first half again and my thoughts on Chambers are still the same, not too sure about the guy, he seems to get beat very easy.

I still don't see the £16,000,000 yet

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - balotelli cost the same BG..which means you got a bargain mate..

I have to say, I don't see the same. He is a soilid performer, arguably playing in a not best position at the moment and for me a star in our defence for the future, learning fast.

Agree0 Disagree0

Or they are as crap as each other eh?? :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not too sure I agree with you. I think he has been great, I just don't think that he is fast enough to play on the right, and should probably play as a CB or CDM.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 21:42:31
Ed, you beat me to it with the Balo comment.

Bambam, give him time.
Remember, he wasn't even a regular in the Saints side. £16m is a good investment for a player his age.
I don't think any player has played well this season, apart from Sanchez.
We have a defence that's down to the bare bones, once our defence is settled, Chambers will settle in properly.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - at least the kid has potential dags, and no doubt a sell on profit, a lot of you were begging for balo, which just goes to show why arsene is managing arsenal..and not some wannabe driving instructor.. :)

Jenks sits one place above us in the league, if we'd had him Calum would have played CB in Kos absence and we may be in a much better postion at this point

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fair point mate..

29 Nov 2014 22:20:03
Lol thanks Ed,

When I took my driving test 20 years ago the examiner said, "drive off when you are ready".

" Your breath smells" I said.

He repeated, "Drive off when you are ready".

"Are you wearing a wig?" I said.

"Drive off when you are ready" he said angrily.

"I had sex with your wife last night", I replied.

" Will you please please please drive off" he repeated.

"And your daughter" I added.

He angrily said, "Will you now drive off".

" I am" I said, "I'm just trying to find the biting point".

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - sigh..but i bet your good at your job mate..

29 Nov 2014 23:18:33
Ed, my students love me.

Non-stop jokes and than get them through their test with a smile, lol.

(They try extra hard to pass first time so they don't have to endure my jokes) :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree BG I have yet to see anything special about Chambers. The Swansea game in which Montero destroyed him still sticks in my mind. I think the fact he is young and English make a few people feel he is better than what he is. Having said that he is an athlete and has time on his side so we will see what happens is a few years I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Nov 2014 08:27:26
Perhaps when he starts his career as our CB or DM then maybe we can have a better idea of the player we have.

It pretty obvious he has the attributes.

Agree0 Disagree0

With the Swansea game basic defending let him down though Red that's what was worrying for me. No matter it he plays RB or CB he shouldn't have been caught out the way he was. But like I said he's still young so we shall see how he develops.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is only 19 and playing his first real full season. You can't tell me that Ashley Cole never got ripped apart in his early career? Swansea was All part of the learning process, and every time I hear Chambers interviewed he seems more than capable of learning and moving forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Epping, I remember a pretty experienced ashley cole getting ripped apart, by a certain young christiano ronaldo. But what he did was learn from it and used it next time he faced him, to better effect. As long as you learn from your experiences that's fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 21:15:15
I posted earlier Wilshere or Cazorla.

I'm going to answer my own question, and possibly going to cause some controversy on here.

I'm not anti-Jack, far from it and sometimes I get the impression on this page that saying anything bad about Jack is an offence that carries a prison sentence.

Anyway, for me, I'm going to pick Santi.

Jack is a terrific player, gives 100% and is Arsenal to the core.

But, too injury prone for me. Not his fault, but some players are lucky, some not.
On average he plays half a season, which is a shame because he is a terrific player.
His injuries are our loss.

Secondly, in comparison to Santi, he slows the game down, thus allowing the opposition to track back and defend.

I also feel he loses possession more than Santi because he is more of a dribbler, thus giving him more chance to lose the ball and allow the opposition to counter.

For me, Santi is more direct, a quicker passer of the ball, which means we counter attack more and at a faster speed.

He is also more direct, ala Rosicky, thus giving us more scoring chances and his goals scored are better than Jacks, certainly in his first season, when he was playing more in his favoured central role.

You will all possibly disagree (waits for Stoner to reply lol) and you will possibly all accuse me of sticking a knife in Jack's back.

But hey, its a banter page and you all know I'm Arsenal through and through, and its just my opinion, whether right or wrong.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Nov 2014 21:59:13
Dags, I'd pick jack over Santi, for the simple fact I think jack works harder in the game.

Now I'd never slate anyone who voices there opinion, rather then just say jacks overrated, to injury prone and make it sound like it's all down to him.

Santi's first season was brilliant, but he hasn't produced it consistently since, I just think the demand on him is to high in the premiership for his physique.

I'd pick jack over santi, but I wouldn't sell either of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 22:25:09
Fair point MgM, you echoed my point that Santi is best suited in the central role, as his first season proved.

Agree with you entirely, would hate to sell either of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as I love Santi I would cash in on him in the summer to strengthen other areas of the pitch. We have far too many players in his postion and he has never replicated the beginning of his Arsenal career in the last few years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Me: "Son, what do you want for Christmas?"

Son: "I want a dragon".

Me: " What colour dragon do you want?".

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 18:38:42
Good win and another clean sheet. We are looking solid defensively, with the team working hard to cover, particularly both full backs were well protected.
I thought Martinez was impressive, I think I would keep him in goal on Wednesday, after two clean sheets. I think he is going to be a top keeper, when he matures, assuming he gets sufficient game time. It concerns me slightly that Ospina is ahead of him.
I was sorry to see Monreal go off, as he was playing well. Playing at centre back seems to have helped the defensive side of his game.
Lets get behind Wenger and the team on Wednesday, so we can close the gap on Southampton, who have a difficult match against Man City, before playing us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Nov 2014 21:16:21
Damn fine post Roberto 69

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 16:24:43
2 clean sheets on the bounce.

What's gone wrong? :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or right?

Martinez?

Agree0 Disagree0

Team looks like its working harder closing down up front and midfield. I think we panic defending our last third though. We have a run of winnable games before we are tested again, need to amass a big haul of points. Big holes left again today but baggies not good enough to exploit and when they did the linesman helped us out. Why was the ox left out, baffling, he's been our second best player. Stilli suppose the rest is needed, but what has pod done wrong to be blanked again. Next job, need to put Southampton in their place.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 17:21:01
Credit to Martinez he has looked assured and made some good saves, a couple when the players have been offside.

We have as yet not remotely played to form, bar Dortmund, and Ramsey is yet to return as the player of last season.

Maybe a continued run for Flamini will do him a world of good, Mert seems to have shaken off his World Cup celebrations, Kos is back and Gibbs continues to look good.

It's a game at a time process, I'm sure no one is jumping for joy proclaiming we will now win the League, because knowing us we remain fragile but after doing everything bar put the ball in the net against a woeful United it's nice to put two wins on the board.

Even with our injuries we still have some great options going forward, we need the continued solidarity at the back.

I personally wouldn't mind if we went back to 1 nil to the Arsenal for the next 20 games.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 17:27:10
Agree with all of the above.

The Pod situation is baffling, especially as we could shuffle things around and give Sanchez a well deserved break.

My biggest plus point would be the return of Theo, would improve us massively.

Agree0 Disagree0

Two good results on the trot reasons to be gleeful return, make it 3 out of 3 and and r corner could well be turned.
There will always be areas we could be better in because everyone knows where not the finished article but on the whole a very decent and much improved performance that day.
Ox not starting was a massive surprise but we got away with it so no big deal

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Pod is far to busy getting his photo taken and twerting to play football these days, I can understand his being dissolutioned through lack of chances but he doesn't exactly bust a gut when he plays either

Agree0 Disagree0

Kos is so important to us. He could be one of the most under rated defenders in world football solid

Bony bags again. #justsaying lol

Bring on the saints.

Agree0 Disagree0

Said it before Derby I really think Bony would suit our team down to a T at the moment. 16mil Welbeck, possibly 20mil Bony? No brainer for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly van der. I like him

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 16:23:43
Based on what I posted earlier and 337 commented on.

Wilshere or Cazorla?

What say you?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wilshere every time.

Cazorla is great when he is 100% focused but goes totally missing when not.

JW gives 110% for Arsenal, and even when his passes go astray he can produce one magical moment that no one else see's

Agree0 Disagree0

Cazorla - rarely injured and makes other players better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jack every time, Caz has far too many I would rather be elsewhere days dreaming of Spanish return

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 15:19:00
Well happy with that.

Thought it was going to be 1-3 or 0-4 (lol).

Good performance and result. Typical Arsenal, do things the hard way, but any away win is a bonus.

Thought Cazorla was immense today.
Does he play much better when JW is not in team?

Great to have Kos back, but shame about Montreal injury.

Happy Dags.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arsenal play better when JW is not playing. I'd love if someone could get the actual stats on arsenals record with and without jack starting a game

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 16:05:57
Me too, any kind of a run of wins is what we need, that and Ramsey to play himself back into form.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, but we do not play better without Jack, players like Cazorla play better because they are playing in their preffered position, I love Cazorla but JW starts in front of him for me

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 16:53:43
I'm with you 337 :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 14:49:49
So today was a perfect example of why we lack a solid CDM. As we know most sides will sit back and counter against us so we retain a high percentage of possession and previously (seasons) have been solid at the back to handle counters. When we went ahead and WBA were forced to attack we were extremely vulnerable particularly on the edge of the box, where we were poor picking up second ball. Per was immense when up against it but most headers dropped to WBA midfield. Flamini was non-existent. We should be thankful that more teams don't open up against us right now because the risk may outweigh the upside of having more space when we attack.

We all know it. But a dominant CDM would bring more benefit than any other position right now. Why that is not obvious to AW is beyond me.

Does Viera have his UEFA Pro badges?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wouldnt want viera back at our club now, not after his relationship with city.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's harsh 337 the guy is a legend at our club and he has to find employment somewhere. I would always welcome the man of steel back anytime he choose.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not as far as I know.}

29 Nov 2014 10:22:57
On today's poll re summer window, I think should open the day after the Champion's league final and close on the Friday before the season kicks off.
It would simplify all the precontract signings that happen any way and save fans buying shirts of players who two weeks later are no longer with the club

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Nov 2014 08:49:32
Any idea what is up with Abu Diaby? Wenger doesn't mention him any longer. I was under the impression, he had a calf problem and should be back by now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Nov 2014 09:56:21
Bit of a mystery Rob as Diaby is not on official injury list.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all ok now robbie, he's just returned from Llandudno junction after having specialist treatment for his calf problem, and has been reported to be feeling pretty sheepish.

He has a starring role in the new movie with Bruce Willis called Unbreakable 2, he is playing the part of Elijah Price who was played by Samuel L Jackson in the original film.

Shooting is scheduled until May so he could be back next season.

That's the best excuse I can come up with :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 04:14:08
I've said time and time again, SELL JACK WILSHIRE injury prone over rated and reckless, I'd take 15 /20 m for him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's a good player and has had a lot of responsobilty put on him by the media at such a young age but nevertheless I see where folk come from when they talk about his flaws.

He is a player who divides the fans but if we can keep Diaby on the books for years I would hope we stick by Jack for a while longer as he is a local lad, loves the club and fills the British quota. Having said that he does need to mature quickly now as he's not an 18 year old kid anymore.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 07:50:41
Have to disagree with you mate, not sure if you saw the tackle or the picture posted by Jack but for most it would have been a leg breaker.

How the United donkey never got sent off, God knows.

totally agree with VDG, he will be worth putting some faith into.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd sell Sanchez before I sold Jack, well I wouldn't really but I thought if we're going to be silly let's go totally mental.
Jacks having his best season for years and showing signs of consistency at last only Ox and Sanchez have been better this season.
I suspect a blast from the past in this post :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 10:37:45
Hes massively overrated and wouldn't get close to bayern, barca, real or even juve's midfield and if we want to be the best we need the best midfielders. Jacks not one of those, though saying that neither are rambo, arteta, flamini. he's the best of a bad bunch imo

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 11:03:36
A comment from Xavi, made this month, regarded as one of the best midfielders out there and his thoughts on English players.

I quote, "There is a lot of talent out there and Wilshere is an amazing player"

But what would he know.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unwarranted Jack Attacks, what do you think might be going on here Red? :-)
Hope Stoner's not reading today :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 11:24:39
Jack has not helped himself in the press but the press is after Arsenal.

Giroud not in squad dye to AFC screw up - nope, he was injured and the squad is small so why waste a space. He came back early which is a shock but get over it.

Jack is injury prone - nope again. Pat should have been red carded for that tackle and should be in the headlines not Jack bur it's open season on AFC so let's have a dig.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 11:41:45
Jack's an amazing player. We do seem to like to tear down our own sometimes dont't we. You can see why some players are Marmite, but I really don't understand why Wilshire is in that category. Wouldn't sell him for a anything. Mike Dean is the one who should be sold on to another league. That tackle was inexcusable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unbelievable, JW10 is one of the most naturally talented midfield players this country has ever produced, if fit (if) he would fit in to ANY team in the world inc Barca and they know it!

Sometimes I wonder where some of the Numpties come from on this page!

I think even my favourite Manu fan CR would back me up about Jack

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 12:38:32
Everyone has their favourites g62, me I'm a Jack fan, think he will be a big part of our future.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 13:12:15
337,

I think the most poignant part of your post are the words "if fit".

Nobody doubts Jacks talent.
Jacks injury record is normally the talking point.

Example> For me, if fit, About Diaby would be one of the most complete MIDs in the world.

Ahh, there's those 2 words again, " if fit".

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit different Dags, we've never seen this bloke Diaby you speak of!

At least Jack has played 2 games in a row before

Agree0 Disagree0

Regarding the jw stuff - arsenal stuck by rvp and he did become a real player . we then got a load of cash for the tw@t

jack will become a real force - no player would have remained on the park after that tacjkle

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 17:32:08
Fair point 337, but again, its all about his injuries.

Agreed, the Manchester United injury was reckless and dirty but, Jack has had too many innocuous injuries.

He worries me.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 04:13:42
I've always been fully bhind wenger but Iam down to 50/50 now in or out I don't care but somthing needs to happen, I think January will make or break our season, and to be honest I don't see him buying what we need then it's out of the top 4 and no big players will join sad times

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think deep down Wenger knows he has lost a lot of the fans. He will quit come the end of the season in my opinion. If he does he would leave his successor with an abundance of talent at their disposal which would be a great foundation for our potential new coach to kick in and build his own team.

Who do we bring in to replace a legend though? Much like when Sir Alex departed it is a poison chalice and it will take a brave man to take his seat at the Emirates.

Agree0 Disagree0
