Can someone explain to me the appeal of benzema? Everyone says he is clinical and world class, but his goalscoring record says otherwise. Given how much Giroud contributes defensively and in build-up play, what does Benz add?

Forget about him he's not coming
But really the team is pressured to pass to Ronaldo in games and Benzema assists a lot of his goals. If a team was built around Benzema he would score a lot more goals

I agree, I am not over-impressed by Benzema and in an ideal situation would like to see us sign Lewandowski.
We clearly need an upgrade on the paceless Giroud. I hate to say it, but Harry Kane, would be a good shout. An interesting alternative could be Callum Wilson. He is a decent finisher and has pace.

Having watched France play with both Benzema and Giroud up front, I know which one I'd prefer. Perhaps he's not clinical but he has that x-factor we're missing at times (yesterday for example) - he can create a goal from very little. But as has been said, this is all a moot point - remind me to unfollow a certain Italian journalist on Twitter.

Benzema is a much better finisher than giroud

So lots of positivity of late. Last season we had 79 pts, this season maximum is 75 pts. If results are truly all that matters then surely it should be doom and gloom again?

Which brings me to the next point. I know everyone on here is hysterical about winning the league every year. I personally would rather wait 3 or 4 more years and win it our way, with our players, than give in to the money hungry ways of our competitors.

It will be much more satisfying to see Ramsey, Wilshire, Theo, Gibbs, Giroud, Coq, Ox etc. on the podium lifting the trophy than it would be to watch Cech, Sterling, Schneiderlin, Cavani, and who knows who else. Even if it take a bit longer.

Bottom line is that if we try to compete with chelsea, city and united we will always be struggling. We need to play our own way and run our club our own way.

All this said, I think with 0 signings we could win the league next year. Peace.

But there's no guarantee Jack Theo and co will ever become our joint managers and get the chance to make us champions by doing what it takes in reality opposed to a romantic fantasy world that will never happen.

Never any guarantees in the Premier League

I think the most important position on the pitch for the united game is defensive midfield. Flamini has been excellent thus far but this is the test of a DM for me. The way rooney drops into the hole and runs across the backline is lethal. Song used to do this well for us and always kept rooney quiet, I have faith in flamini and would love him to dominate united like fellaini used to do for everton. Optimistic for 3 points, but stoked with a draw.

All I've heard in the last two weeks from arsenal internet fans has been "wilshere out" "should pick on form" and the ilk. Well he sure shut you up. Would be nice to see some of those critics eating some humble pie and remembering that wilshere is arsenal through and through (which is more important than form).

AASgooner

1.) Some fans, not all fans.

2.) Yes let's do all we can to keep Jack happy at all costs, if it means selling Ramsey Carzola and Ozil so he can be top dog so be it, if it means playing Barnet and Enfield in local derbies its a price worth paying to keep some one who is arsenal through and through happy.
Jack doesn't need special treatment he will be a automatic 1st choice for club and country in the not to distant future because he has earned it not been given it.
By the way I've been Arsenal through and through for over forty years should I get my boots ready for Tuesday :-)

3.) Gunner62
Spot on. Whoever is best at the time. Isn't it nice to have the choice.
Flybo

4.) Thanks Flybo, we all want Jack to for fill his fantastic ( P word) and I have no doubts he will.
This time last year we were desperately trying to rush him back from injury as things were not great, now its a case of take your time son, keep doing the right things and one day you WILL be just like Zidane and Ramsey (sorry couldn't help last bit) :-)

5.) AASgooner, I don't totally agree with your post mate.
I have casted doubts about him over the past few weeks, saying he doesn't look match fit and he should be given a rest and prehaps sit on the bench.
I will not apologise for expressing an opinion about an Arsenal player, irrespective who who they are. If ozil goes through a bad patch and is not performing than I will say the same about him and any other Arsenal player, no matter who they are or how big a player they are.
I have been a gooner for over 40 years and have seen the likes of frank stapleton, alan sunderland, liam brady, george armstrong, david oleary, tony adams, nigel winterburn, pat vieira, thierry henry and robert pires dropped for various reasons. Yes, I agree jack is arsenal through and through, does that mean he should not be rested if he is off the pace? Of course he should and if you ask jack himself he would probably say the same.
having said that, i'm as happy as a kid in a sweet shop that he has found his form and is playing well again. Maybe that just reinforces my opinion that a little rest on the subs bench is not a bad thing. FOR ANY PLAYER.

6.) My post was never calling into doubt that any of you are arsenal fans. I was just making the point that if we call for people to be dropped to the bench after a couple of poor games then it is harder for them to hit form again. One of the reasons Ramsey is do good now is that wenger stuck with him when all the fans were calling for him to be dropped. I wasnt one of those fans then and I think we should learn lessons. In Wenger we trust.

P.S gunner62 - yes, would love to see you on tuesday against dortmund over RVP or Nasri, not all about quality or we become united/liverpool/city

7.) AASgooner, no problem my friend

Pele scored over 1000 goals at the same goals:game ratio at club and international level. All that with leather balls, no sponsors, poor wages and defenders hacking you down without mercy. We didn't actually see it so its hard for us to believe but i'm sure it was just as breathtaking as either of these two.

Has everyone forgotten that santi cazorla hauled us out of the grim depths in the FA cup final with a superb peice of individual brilliance. Scoring in the absolute crunch time is good enough for me!

Just thought i'd remind you guys that jack saved a point for us at west brom and effectively put us in the last 16 of the UCL by single handedly taking the points against marseille. Every player can't have a blinder in every game, last night the problem wasnt that wilshere went missing, it was the the whole team went missing, just like we did against United and Napoli, need to get that winning mentality. And break the bank for yaya toure in january, that guy is unstoppable.

Disagree, yes we are short in depth compared to other teams (who have all had to spend hundreds of millions of pounds to get that), but why does that mean we can't win the league? I think the reason i'm so excited about this season is that we (in my opinion) have the potential to not only win the league, but to win it our way. One of the things i'm most proud of is that we haven't spent like the other teams, we give young players a chance and do what is good for football. This is a much sweeter way to win the league than buying it like chelsea, united and city. Wenger has proved he is the one who can do it, and I personally think he can again. In terms of your specific issues, we have plenty of pace, Walcott, the Ox, Podolski, Ryo, Gnabry, would all outpace Luiz/Evans/Skrtel/Kompany in a sprint. Defensive midfield we have ramsey, wilshere, arteta and flamini, all of whom I believe are leaders and organisers. Flamini may be special in that position, but the thing about special players is there aren't many of them. "BUY BUY BUY" not only is not very arsenal, but is not good for football, growing your own talent deserves respect.

Finally, while I believe this squad is strong enough to win the league, I think we need a backup forward and someone who can play CB and CDM, like pepe or luiz.
